We're exploring one of the lesser-known chapters of Italy's post-war history as we examine Sicily's bid for independence with our esteemed guest Dr. Gaetano Cipolla of Arba Sicula. Join us as he shares insights from his brand new translation of the late Giuseppe Scianò's revelatory book, "The Struggle for Sicilian Independence." Our enlightening conversation peels back layers of history, exposing British intervention in Garibaldi's campaign and the effects of Italian unification on Sicilian culture. We reflect on the enduring spirit of the Sicilian people, their unique language, and cultural heritage, drawing parallels to contemporary independence movements across Europe. And, we'll be diving into the linguistic labyrinth of the Sicilian language, as Dr. Cipolla dismantles misconceptions and conveys the richness of a tongue that's more than a mere dialect. We dissect the challenges of translating Sicilian for an American audience, striking a balance between cultural fidelity and comprehensibility. The episode also delves into the diversity among Sicilian dialects and the endeavor to create a standardized grammar that remains true to its multifaceted nature, celebrating Sicily's linguistic identity and diversity. Concluding our cultural voyage, we ponder the future of Sicilian language and customs. Against the predictions of its fading, we find a vibrant cultural pride encouraging its preservation. We explore the shifting lexicon, the role of music, and social media's potential to ignite a cultural renaissance. Dr. Cipolla's dedication to safeguarding the Sicilian heritage is evident through his latest contributions, promising to be vital for those fascinated with Sicily's rich history and the unyielding spirit that has influenced the world. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/italianamerican/support

Matthew currently serves as a civilian contractor with the US Military, providing counselling services to front line troops staged to depart or returning from deployments to various operational theaters in the world. Through the various miraculous events of his life, Matthew describes how God mysteriously, often in hidden ways, draws those who love Him into deeper relationship, intimacy and life in God, in fulfillment of the words of St. Paul in the 1st Chapter of his letter to the Ephesians: " He destined us in love to be his sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, 6 to the praise of his glorious grace which he freely bestowed on us in the Beloved." (Eph 1:5). The highligh of Matthew's talk is the greatest miracle of his life transpired, in which 8 years of steadfast prayer was answered in life changing ways in 8 hours. Your job as a parent is to advocate for your child, particularly when there is a mental health concern because we want our children to know that, if they're going through something emotionally, it impacts the whole family. Therapy or treatment is not ‘fix my kid', it's ‘help my family'. Once a child realizes this, they'll find it easier to see their value in the family and that is immensely helpful! Joining us in conversation today is Denise Cipolla, Administrative Coordinator of Guidance and Counseling for Conroe ISD. She shares with us why mental health is such a focus for Conroe ISD and how mental health support is also a support mechanism for learning. Today, you'll hear about the social-emotional learning playbook created by teachers, administrators, and counselors, and learn what trauma-informed teaching and care looks like. Denise reveals what she has witnessed happening when mental health is left unattended to, explores why some parents are emotional hostages of their children, and explains why stress and anxiety is the highest presenting problem in students of all ages, as well as where that stems from. Join us today to learn from Denise's wealth of wisdom for parents looking to guide their children through managing their mental health. Thanks for tuning in! Dani Cipolla: Love yourself Dani Cipolla, an ex-NYC model, grew up in nearly every part of the city and is a diehard New Yorker. She started modeling at the age of 17 and quickly found herself struggling with body dysmorphia and a severe eating disorder, bulimia, which became her way of controlling a life over which she no longer had control. She experienced an even darker side of the industry, the over-sexualization of young girls, when she herself was sexually assaulted during a photo shoot. After ending her contract and exiting the industry, Dani finally fell in love with her body at the age of 26 and continues to heal herself from both the physical and mental damage from her earlier years. Today, she has built a broadcasting company of women's voices, is the host of three amazing podcasts and loves having conversations with people to show that you can leave one life and start a new one. In this episode the Cipolla modelthe Bonhoeffer modelwhy people behave like thiswhat can we do about stupidityThese are Cipolla's five fundamental laws of stupidity:Always and inevitably, everyone underestimates the number of stupid individuals in circulation. The probability that a certain person (will) be stupid is independent of any other characteristic of that person.A stupid person is a person who causes losses to another person or to a group of persons while himself deriving no gain and even possibly incurring losses.Non-stupid people always underestimate the damaging power of stupid individuals. In particular, non-stupid people constantly forget that at all times and places, and under any circumstances, to deal and/or associate with stupid people always turns out to be a costly mistake.A stupid person is the most dangerous type of person.“Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe.”― Albert EinsteinReferences:Sunk cost FallacyConformity biasBonhoeffer’s theoryCipolla’s theoryThe Vice documentary of the Lev Tahor CultAdvice for dealing with people🎥 Check out the youtube channel here: [https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCejK...] ✍️ Do the free training here: (https://www.justinnoppe.com/change-co...) 📸 Follow me on IG (@justinnoppe) (https://www.instagram.com/justinnoppe/) Get full access to Thought Architecture at thoughtarchitecture.substack.com/subscribe
