Phantom Electric Ghost Interviews Joanna Barbolla: Self-published Author, Artist, Designer, Corporate Executive, Educator Tell us about your new book DIVULGE D'VINO Biography Self-published Author, Artist, Designer, Corporate Executive and now Educator specializing in Elementary Education, my journey has been a plethora of learning, creativity and self-discovery. After working in NYC's Corporate America for 30 years, as a single NYer, Covid hit and destroyed my career, so I decided to relocate to Florida for a fresh start and and a second career in teaching. While both rewarding and challenging, I never gave up on my first love of WINE & ART ! I've been a self-taught Abstract Expressionist for nearly 15 years and found painting to be the most calming and creative hobby a woman can have! After creating hundreds of paintings, I designed a course in Art Therapy for students of all ages to use different forms of artistic expression to help explore and transform feelings, thoughts and ideas, as well as process emotional issues to facilitate healing and well-being. This type of painting was my ultimate practice in self-care. I wanted to give back to my readers and introduce them to my Art Therapy images in DIVULGE D'VINO so they may experience the wonderful health benefits of painting and creating art as I did for several years... I also spent several years in the wine business in NYC and attended many trade events, tastings and classes. My experience left me with an abundance of knowledge of wines from around the globe and I needed to share my newly acquired wine wisdom with the world...and that's when I started my weekly wine blog DIVULGE D'VINO! My readers loved it and found it to be wonderful tidbits of information on wines and food pairings and an incredible escape from the mundane....And how can you have a wonderful full-bodied glass of red without picking up your palette knife and start creating..?!! This was exactly how DIVULGE D'VINO was born! A sensually charged, passionate and sizzling page turner filled with emotions and gusto by bringing together the very best of both worlds, luscious WINES & unique one-of-a-kind ABSTRACT ART ! “Attachment to many things weighs and drags us down. That's why, if the weather stops us from setting sail, we sit and fume, constantly peering outside: ‘Which direction is the wind from?' ‘The north.' ‘Damn! When is it going to blow from the west?' In its own good time, my friend.“So what must we do? Make the best of what's up to us and take everything else as it comes.“So what resources do we need to have at hand for circumstances like these? Just the knowledge of what is and isn't mine, and of what is and isn't possible for me.I am condemned to death. Do I have to die moaning and groaning as well?To incarceration. Do I have to complain about it?To exile. Is there anyone stopping me from going with a smile, joyful and content?‘Divulge your secrets.' Real estate prices fluctuate based on supply and demand, but because so many demographic, economic, and policy changes influence the markets, it's virtually impossible to know what to expect.  Before the COVID-19 pandemic, for example, economists weren't predicting a downturn in commercial real estate. Now, Morgan Stanley's chief economist warns of a crash more damaging than the 2008 financial crisis. On the other hand, unexpected gains are common as well. In May 2020, Zillow predicted a drop in home prices and home sales followed by a slow recovery in 2021. But instead, a homebuying boom caused prices to skyrocket before 2020 came to an end.  With the ever-changing markets, what seems like a good investment one year can look like a poor choice the next. But even with all the uncertainty, there are some enduring truths in real estate that you can always depend on as an investor. And understanding these tenets can help you navigate the shifting landscape with more confidence.   Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day

Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for March 12, 2023 is: divulge • dih-VULJ • verb To divulge something, especially secret or private information, is to make it known. // Rather than divulge our list of potential names to friends and family before our baby's due date, we prefer our eventual choice to be a surprise. See the entry > Examples: “As an unrestricted free agent, [Azurá] Stevens can negotiate with any team when free agency begins in mid-January. She isn't ready to divulge what her expectations are for her future in the [WNBA] league, but she did say she will be testing the waters.” — Annie Costabile, The Chicago Sun-Times, 10 Dec. 2022 Did you know? Information divulged is typically secret, or known only to insiders, and it isn't usually shouted from the rooftops. But when divulge first entered English in the 15th century, it did so as a synonym of proclaim: divulging involved declaring or announcing something to the public, a duty of town criers from Lizard Point to Dunnet Head. The word's source is Latin vulgare, “to make known,” which traces ultimately back to the Latin noun vulgus, meaning “common people” or “mob.” While nowadays divulge can presumably involve blabbing to the rabble, the word usually implies a more careful and considered approach to sharing sensitive information.

502 How Much Should We Divulge As The Leader?

THE Leadership Japan Series by Dale Carnegie Training Tokyo, Japan

There are lots of secrets for leaders.  They attend the executive meetings, the off-sites, the briefings from the big bosses and know what is going on before anyone else.  Divulging top secret corporate moves will get you fired, so leaders are usually tight-lipped about coming transformations, changes, expansions, downsizing etc.  This is fairly obvious and everyone knows where the boundaries are located regarding what you can and cannot say.  What about more personal matters though? Japan is a place where a secret is a precious thing.  Living cheek-by-jowl for centuries in small villages or packed together in urban concentrations, often with concrete walls which seem paper thin, keeping a secret is no mean task.  Like most cases for small cities around the world, everyone seems to know everyone else's business.  Sometimes I am taken by surprise. Suddenly one of my staff will tell me that they have gotten married or that they have had a child.  Until the deed is done, Japanese are pretty silent about what is going on, in case something goes wrong and they would lose face. What about the boss though?  How much should the boss be prepared to share what is going on in their private life?  When I was growing up in Brisbane the answer was simple – you shared nothing!  Work and non-work were completely separate universes and there was a big wall keeping them apart.  You were expected to handle whatever was going on in your private life and turn up and turn out the work – no excuses.  Today, things are different and staff are more likely to want to blur the boundary between private and work.  They are expecting to be cut some slack, to be granted some margin, to accommodate their private travails in the workplace.  Japanese are living longer,  so parents are still around and getting frail and needing medical care and assistance from their children.  The idea that this has nothing to do with the company is now a strange idea and bosses are expected to be supportive and flexible.  But what about the boss -where do they fit into this new world? Usually, the private items which may move into the public domain will be ill health or divorce or re-marriage.  These three biggies are not for broad public consumption.  Clients don't need to know the boss's health issues or marital arrangements, unless they have become friends or the relationship is very close.  However how much should the boss tell the team?  There can be a fear that telling staff about the boss's weaknesses will undermine their authority.  There is also the fear that nobody particularly cares about the boss's issues, because they have an abundance of their own issues and don't really want to know about what is going on.  There is also the aspect that bosses are totally replaceable.  If you have to disappear, or fall of the perch, then the machine will spit out a replacement and life continues. In the case of company owners though there is a different calculation.  If the boss disappears, the company may disappear too and everyone is out of a job.  So is the boss wise to keep everything a secret, deal with their health issues privately and just carry on as if nothing is amiss?  We are in the era of more compliance and greater transparency, so how does this impact boss choices? I believe in being transparent with my teams.  I wasn't always so minded though and for a long time I kept everything under wraps and would not let anyone know what was going on with the financials in the business. I changed that mindset a number of years ago and now everyone knows exactly where we are financially, in real time.  Did making the change create a queue of people lined up outside my door demanding more money?  No, I found everyone understood the health of the company and were professional in their expectations. Applying that same transparency logic, I am prepared to share serious health issues with the team.  Their lives are tied up in the company and they have a right to know about things which may impinge on that stability.  If you are going to disappear into hospital for week or more and need to recover at home for some weeks after that, it is pretty hard to shield that information from the team and people are not stupid.  Yes, the “ironman or ironwoman” image may be revealed to have feet of clay, but so what?  The era of the hero leader has been replaced with the total power of the team and if the whole thing revolves around one person, then we have a serious problem with the way the business is being run. What about things like getting divorced?  Is that for public consumption?  Will that be something you can keep secret forever?  It isn't really possible though is it.  The word will get out for sure. There is also the issue of changes in your demeanour and mood.  Breakups are highly emotional turning points for bosses, especially if there are children involved.  This can lead directly to impacting how we interact with the team.  They will notice something is wrong, because we have changed.  We don't have to try and get them to take our side in the dispute or to justify what we have decided to do, but we should explain that this is happening and that for a period the boss won't be their same old predictable self.  The team are likely to be more understanding to mood swings or depression in the boss, if they know why. The boss doesn't have a road map with this stuff, because society and work are changing and every day is a new day, where a different path may need to be trod.  The point is to think about your approach or strategy to these issues, before it happens, rather than being caught on the back foot and being forced to react to changes. Not having a solid plan of action isn't how we run companies and these issues are now part of the planning process.

God forgave them already what is your problem? 32.Children feel pitted against each other as goldens or goats 33.Gaslighting and denial of feelings of others 34.Discuss marital problems with kids or run down spouse behind their back 35.Do “takeaways”, ask for gift ideas and never get the thing you requested to keep you coming back 36.Love bombing- execute grandiose words/acts in early stages to win supply with kids and grandkids 37.Affection consuming- parents in early years often get affection from child to feed themselves then abandon affection once kids mature and gain other relationships. 38.Deal breakers, often make deals to get to do things then do not fulfill their end and blaming the child with a new wrinkle or rule. 39.Self-forgiving, expecting “I'm sorry for anything you might have thought I did that hurt you. I'm human. I always had good intentions.” - to whitewash any and all issues. 40.Blame reframing- Any issue brought to light is a result of you being hateful and unforgiving or “holding onto the past”. 41.There are “secrets” your parent expects to you keep 42.Money has always been hard to give but parent lives in style 43.They have friends they can outshine and cut down behind their backs, often other narcissists or simply supply 44.Wills and estates are used as bait and ransom to elicit behaviors 45.You have felt like a puppet often 46.Surprise punishments and groundings for kids are common when there are events that are inconvenient or parent doesn't like the idea of you attending 47.Friends are criticized, you are great but your “crowd”, not so much 48.There is no lie too bold to tell and double down on 49.The overt narcissist will not allow any child to outshine them, they discourage or hamper advancement 50.The covert narcissist will passively aggressively insult or demean success and acheivement, “you are going to get a fat head”   And finally, you will know it is all factual when they will acknowledge no actual errors, flaws or real genuine hurt they caused.   They admit nothing.   Everything is a misunderstanding. Yours.   They will never humbly apologize.   They will play hurt and the victim without end.   You are a hateful accuser that can't just let it go.   They will run from the responsibility of the past and may even cut you off, lash out, send flying monkeys to indimidate you and make you appear crazy or the bully.   They may sue you, cut you out of wills, and tell horrible and sometimes embarrassing true stories about your past.   They will attempt to poison your relationships if they have access to your friends, your spouse or your children. Everone is a pawn and they will make any move to appear a flawless victim.   At the center of all NPD's is shame and cowardice. They are underdeveloped emotionally most likely as a result of aloneness and rejection at or around ages 3-5. There may be a genetic link to a parent with NPD. They are small stunted people filled with shame, self-loathing and rage.   The only escape is walking away and grey rocking them.   The sick mind of sociopaths, psychopaths and narcissists cannot obtain the rational observation that they are sick. It is an unacceptable hypothesis to them. They cannot self-diagnose or see it. It will garner smugness, laughter, egoism, rage and condescention should you bring it up.   Expect them to run from the room, leave the table or hang up on you in anger. Confrontation about their ego will trigger a flight or fight response.   They may bark once, but then they will run because they cannot help it. They are cowards who feel deep shame at their core.   You can be assured their childish rage will have them plotting and working to destroy you in the shadows.   It is not a choice for them. It is a reflex.   The manipulations of a person with NPD are boundless and unique.   If 30% or more of the above applies to your parent or relative there is a high likelihood they are diagnosable by a professional as having NPD.  Only .5% of the population gets diagnosed due to avoidance.   They will never go.   Your only resolution is no contact.   It will feel like a death to you.   Narcissists only feed from empaths.   Like emotional vampires. They suck life. They know they are doing it. They are 100% aware and they loathe themselves yet can't stop. Thus they keep a busy schedule. Sitting and realistically reflecting is not an option.   Accept that you are worth loving, that's why they picked you.   Accept that THEY can't love you. That is unfortunately also why they picked you.   Whatever you do, don't hurt yourself.   Secretly once outed their great hope is you do, and they get to prove you were crazy and unstable and gain a whole new supply of attention and sympathy from the other suckers.   People with NPD must win at any cost.   The only way to beat them, Is to go live a great life without them.   One in a million will address their trauma that caused this but you as their source has a zero percent chance of making them see the light through their darkness. They are getting their light from you as the source.   You must leave them in the dark as an act of love for yourself.   Good luck   Follow Drew: @Twitter https://twitter.com/drewcanole @Instagram https://www.instagram.com/drewcanole/ @Facebook https://www.facebook.com/people/Drew-Canole/100044261357988/ Visit www.mysoulcbd.com/drew and get 15% off your next order!

If you want to avoid burnout and you want to avoid getting into that paralysis state, constantly change your game. If you do that, you're going to like your job a lot more, you're going to like your interactions with customers a lot more and you'll thrive and survive." ALEX'S TIP FOR EMERGING SALES LEADERS: "Be humble, keep evolving and get 1% better every day. Just take a little bit of time every day to try to make yourself a little bit better and don't forget that. Be humble, because we've all been bounced around this year and had to look ourselves in the mirror. I tell myself that every day, try to do that and I tell my reps that a lot."

Spring is in the air - as the early season flowers bring a hint of colour and joy, banishing the winter blues away. Head Gardeners such as Lucy and Saul relish this moment in the year as the starting gun for a season of flower, foliage and ultimate fun. Gardening kicks off and all the hard work of winter enters a crescendo of horticultural wonder. They're a pain in the proverbial if you view them as weeds, yet they can be fundamental to the success of annual meadows, plus gravel and cottage gardens. How do you view self-seeders? Lucy and Saul have a fair bit of experience between them in both cases, so in this episode they ponder the best ways to manage this potential abundance.  Twitter links:Saul @GardeningSaulLucy @HeadGardenerLCIntro and Outro music from https://filmmusic.io"Fireflies and Stardust" by Kevin MacLeod (https://incompetech.com)License: CC BY (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/)

All Selling Aside with Alex Mandossian |

Imagine a fish swimming upstream. There are several fish in the world that do this, the most easily recognized would be salmon. Imagine how hard they work fighting the current to get to their desired location.  This is what happens when you upsell. You’re fighting against gravity working to pull people up your offer ladder. Instead you could be down-selling. Present your highest tiered offer first and then slowly but surely step people down and show them what happens as the price points fall away.  I’ve worked very closely with Jack Canfield, the author of Chicken Soup for the Soul, and during one of our last recessions he needed to re-evaluate his business model. Now Jack is not a natural salesman. He is a teacher. Getting him into the habit of making the offer was difficult, but it was made much easier by down-selling rather than upselling. I’m sharing the step by step process you should use to downsell and why it is so much more effective than upselling. You’ll learn:  What “down-selling” is defined compared to the upselling model Why “down-selling” is easier and works faster than upselling How “down-selling” is applied when prospecting, step-by-step People love to buy things, but they hate being sold. When you upsell, you’re constantly selling people on why they should elevate their purchase. As you downsell, you’re simply presenting them information and allowing them to choose. It may surprise you how many people opt for your higher priced offers simply because you found a way to better reveal the value of that offer!   In This Episode:  [01:33] - Hate selling? Then this podcast is for you! [05:03] - The three key insights you’ll learn in this episode. [06:44] - How down-selling versus upselling changed an entire business. [09:40] - Why Jack and Alex started working together.  [11:49] - … then Clear Path Consulting was born.  [12:28] - The difference between down-selling and upselling. [15:36] - What is a funnel?  [17:03] - Why Alex flips the funnel and downsells instead.  [21:05] - There is no motivation when you’re upselling.  [23:11] - As you down-sell you simply remove benefits as you go down the value ladder. [26:55] - Easier and faster to down-sell versus upsell because it’s organic.  [29:24] - How down-selling works… step by step. Identify your offer price levels Flip the funnel and go high to low Put a 15-20 minute video on confirmation pages with a top down view of your business Sell via “take-aways” not “add-ons”  Divulge the entire ascension model  [37:20] - A quick recap of “how” to upsell. [39:09]] - The Alexism is, “Don’t stress over setting goals you don’t achieve because they are too high. Be more concerned over goals you achieve set too low.” [39:44] - Hear a quick review of the key insights in this episode:  What “down-selling” is defined compared to the upselling model Why “down-selling” is easier and works faster than upselling How “down-selling” is applied when prospecting step-by-step [40:50] - If you’ve already given Alex a review, write down your biggest takeaway from this episode on an index card. If you haven’t, though, please use that Aha! moment as your review for the show at this link! [42:57] - In honor of this episode, Alex gives listeners a final gift. I enjoyed my time at The Divulge Dancers Film Festival in November 2018 which inspired 5 essential elements to empower as an artist. http://annettbone.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/Divulge-2-11.17.2018-2.jpg () Empower the element of your communication skills. One thing is to work on is enunciation. I had a hard time understanding one of the dancers on Get Lite. Empower the element of possibility thinking. Put the law of attraction into play. One of the dancers did this in Get Lite because he said he was going to Paris and London to teach and it happened. Get the creativity going toward the results you want and not what you don't want. Empower adversity into an advantage. Mother's Balls featured Amber's adversity of a strict background which forced her to be creative. Empower inclusivity in dance and other art forms. Making Waves with the Down's Syndrome dancers was very heartwarming. I am also reminded of other companies that are inclusive such as Axis, Heidi Latsky, Infinite Flow and Leigh Purtill Ballet Company. Empower Other's Skill Set. I love getting around other people that are more advanced in their skill sets than I am. A great example of someone who always empowered others to be better was Gene Kelly. http://annettbone.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Divulge-2-11.17.2018-145.jpg () Links/Info from this session:http://annettbone.com (Get my FREE Audio Resource) https://www.divulgedancersfilmfestival.com/?lightbox=dataItem-jm5ogz3w (Divulge Dancers Film Festival ) http://www.axisdance.org (Axis Dance Company) http://www.heidilatskydance.org (Heidi Latsky ) http://infiniteflowdance.org (Infinite Flow Dance) http://www.leighpurtillballet.com (Leigh Purtill Ballet Company) http://annettbone.com/067 (Interview with Marisa Hamamoto) http://annettbone.com/110 (Interview with Ally Vega) http://annettbone.com/185/ (Interview with Patricia Ward Kelly) http://heididuckler.org (Heidi Duckler) Would you review The DancePreneuring Studio?I would be extremely appreciative if you would subscribe and leave your feedback on Apple Podcasts or Stitcher Radio. On this week’s episode, we have renowned author Jerry Jenkins back with us for more laughs, and to compare notes with Andy on public speaking and how to deal with editors. He also gives us a preview of his latest book.   Andy is at the top of the public speaking game, but Jerry is also a sought-after public speaker. Jerry had always heard he should ask for an introduction that sets up what he’d be covering, and that mentioned he would be funny. Andy, in contrast, has learned that too big of an introduction before speaking gave the audience unrealistic expectations. “Under-promise and overproduce,” therefore, is one of many public speaking pointers Andy goes on to discuss.   Jerry is at the top of the writing game, but Andy is also a successful author and has some good questions for Jerry. Jerry’s asked how he comes up with endings, and the “Carol Burnett Show” “Saturday Night Live” approaches to ending sketches are debated. Jerry’s also asked if a 21-time New York Times bestselling author like himself still gets pushback from publishers on how to write (and how he deals with it when it does happen).   Jerry also addresses the interesting concept of why “nonfiction has to be unbelievable and fiction has to be believable.” Andy and Jerry both rely on detailed research to provide credibility for their stories and characters. Andy discusses his approach to writing about pivotal figures in history who are still obscure enough that most people have never heard their stories. Jerry, in turn, mentions the fun he’s had grilling experts about the future and getting to dream up things that sound like science fiction but will actually be reality soon.   Tune in to the full episode to hear Jerry’s synopsis of his brand new novel, Empire’s End, and to find out what he’s been doing at JerryJenkins.com that’s breaking down barriers for aspiring authors.
