Two procedures:One with fasting one without fasting. With fasting is better because we detox so the whole body.We need Bentonite clay and Psyllium Husk. If you've ever wondered whether fasting is your golden ticket or just another wellness trend that will leave you frustrated—this episode is for YOU. I sat down with Renee Fitton from Prolon to break down intermittent fasting vs. fasting mimicking—and spoiler alert: yes, there's a difference, and yes, it matters, especially if you're a woman in perimenopause or menopause. Renee and I dove into: How the Prolon Fasting Mimicking Diet gives you food and the benefits of fasting (without white knuckling your way through the day) Why five days is the sweet spot for fat loss, inflammation, and muscle protection What the hell “autophagy” is and why it's like a Dyson vacuum for your cells How you can turn back the biological clock—for real—in just 15 days a year What happens after the 5 days (spoiler: don't sprint to 7-Eleven for chips and wine) The one big fasting mistake women over 40 keep making We talked why your metabolism is not mad at you and how Prolon makes it dummy-proof with everything you need in one box. No Googling. No guesswork. Just results. Key Takeaways: Fasting mimicking = food without breaking the fast = results without wrecking your hormones Too much of a good thing? Still too much. (Yes, even fasting.) Your muscle is your metabolism. Don't lose it trying to lose fat. You only need to do this 3x a year for noticeable longevity and fat-loss benefits Refeeding = just as important as fasting. In this eye-opening episode, Dr. Scott Watier and Tommy Welling look at what science tells us about which type of fasting works best, diving into research that followed almost 10,000 people across 153 different studies. They share some exciting findings - like how alternate day fasting came out on top 82% of the time when measuring things like weight loss and blood sugar improvements. Plus, they unpack why people stick with fasting more often (up to 98% of the time!) compared to regular dieting (only 62-78%). The hosts break down what these numbers mean for everyday people trying to improve their health, and help listeners figure out which fasting approach might work best for their own lifestyle and goals. Whether you're new to fasting or looking to fine-tune your approach, this episode offers clear, science-backed guidance without getting too technical. In this bonus episode of the Habits and Hustle podcast, I talk with the author of The Obesity Code, a renowned expert on obesity and intermittent fasting, who explains that there is much more to gaining or losing weight than just the number of calories consumed. It's not only about the energy in the food, but critically, it's about what your body does with that energy. We dive into the complex role of hormones and common myths around calories to make a compelling case for why we need to look beyond overly-simplistic "eat less, move more" advice to understand obesity and weight loss. Dr. Jason Fung is a New York Times-bestselling author of many books including The Obesity Code and The Diabetes Code. He completed medical school at the University of Toronto and a fellowship in nephrology at UCLA. He is the co-founder of The Fasting Method, a program to help people lose weight and reverse type 2 diabetes naturally with intermittent fasting. What We Discuss: "Calories in, calories out" overly simplistic Body stores or burns calories based on hormones Different foods have different hormonal effects Insulin drives fat storage; spiked by certain foods Protein: insulin and satiety effects Processed carbs especially fattening Foods' hormonal impacts key, not just calories …and more! Today, I'm fortunate to welcome Dr. Jason Fung for the fifth time. Jason Fung, MD, was born in 1973 and trained in Los Angeles and Toronto as a kidney specialist. He founded The Fasting Method (TheFastingMethod.com) to provide evidence-based advice for weight loss and managing blood sugars, focusing on low carbohydrate diets and intermittent fasting. In this episode, Dr. Jason Fung emphasizes that fasting should not be followed by binge eating, as it negates the benefits of the fast. The purpose of fasting is to allow the body to use its stored calories, such as glucose and fat, which is beneficial for weight loss and managing type 2 diabetes. If one consumes excessive calories after fasting, the body will store these extra calories as fat, thereby hindering progress. Tune in as Dr. Fung explains certain foods stimulate GLP-1, a hormone that helps regulate appetite. Protein-rich foods make you feel full quickly, while bitter foods like arugula, dandelion greens, ginger, and spices such as turmeric, fenugreek, and cinnamon can suppress appetite. However, while pharmaceutical interventions targeting GLP-1 can be powerful, they are not always ideal due to potential side effects, such as nausea and loss of enjoyment in food. [1:49] Are You Cutting Calories? Start Fasting Instead And See The Benefits! Simply reducing your calorie intake to reduce body fat is a false belief. If you eat less, you burn less, resulting in energy expenditure going down. When you take energy in, you can burn or store it. But what you cannot do is take the stored energy out and burn it. If your insulin is high, you can't burn fat. [8:08] Do Other Hormones Besides Insulin Also Help The Body To Retain Fat? Many factors affect your insulin, but the main one is metabolism. Maintain a low level of insulin. The amount of energy is put in or taken out doesn't matter. You cannot burn body fat if your insulin level is maintained at high levels. Fasting is beneficial because it's the most effective way to lower your insulin. Some foods are more fattening than other foods. For example, even though broccoli and cookies have the same calories, cookies are more fattening than broccoli. [18:31] If You Have Damaged Metabolism, Don't Lose Hope, You Can Rebuild Your level of hunger determines how much and how frequently you eat. You are not consciously in charge of that: you can choose not to eat, but you cannot choose to feel less hungry. It's not about willpower, it's about your appetite. It's not about the calories, it's what's behind those calories. More important: question whether you store or burn the energy that comes to your body. [29:05] The Facts About Type 2 Diabetes and How to Fight It Type 2 diabetes may be controlled, but it leads to heart disease, strokes, and other complications which lead to death. Type 2 diabetes is a straightforward illness to comprehend. Your body has too much sugar and cannot store any more. As a result, it leaks into the blood. When you start measuring it in your blood, you know your sugar storage capacity has been surpassed. And this is going to generate problems. Type 2 diabetes is not a chronic and progressive disease. It is reversible. Changing diet and lifestyle is the step to reverse type 2 diabetes. Older medications such as insulin don't provide organ protection. New medications help to remove sugar from the body, compared to insulin which only moves sugar around. [40:09] What Fasting Techniques Can Force Insulin Down? Find the balance between efficiency and effectiveness. If you choose something too hard, you won't do it. For starters, you could do a 16-hour fast and a two-meals-a-day plan. From there, you could gradually increase your fasting time from 16 hours to 24 and eventually into 36 hour fast, which is the most effective. Thirty-six hours fast just becomes hard because of social reasons. [53:08] Workout While Fasting: Is It Good Or Bad? Listen Here! Your body will typically decide where it will acquire its energy. Your body stores glycogen, and for most individuals, you'll practically never run out of it. When people participate in activities like marathons, you occasionally witness them depleting their glycogen reserves. Keep in mind that, with the exception of the brain, every tissue in your body may use body fat as an energy source. [04:59] What significance does being aware of and committed to maintaining a safe environment have? · After Megan married and planned to start a family, unexpected environmental toxin issues caused health problems, delaying their plans and requiring a crash course in environmental toxins. · The couple moved to the Bay Area due to career opportunities. However, the relocation and the subsequent pandemic added further obstacles to their journey to parenthood, making it logistically challenging to conceive conventionally. · The discovery of low ovarian reserves due to PCOS led the couple to pursue IVF intentionally to bank embryos, ensuring options for future pregnancies. Multiple rounds of embryo collections were required, reflecting their challenges while striving to expand their family. · Megan shares their experience of overcoming metabolic illnesses, insulin resistance, and weight loss, only to face a severe setback due to exposure to environmental toxins. Their health suffered, almost costing them everything, including their marriage and professional endeavours. · Despite maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including proper nutrition, fasting, and utilizing various tools, constant exposure to environmental toxins caused significant cellular inflammation. The resulting health issues required thyroid medication and high doses of T3 to function. · The move to a healthier environment demonstrated the immediate impact of environmental changes on Megan's health. It highlighted the importance of thoroughly investigating potential properties for toxins before purchasing and being prepared for the associated costs. Megan emphasizes the need for awareness and commitment to creating a safe environment. [20:25] A Guide to Navigating Hormonal Differences in Women with Metabolic Disease · Recognizing the role of insulin resistance in driving hormonal imbalances, including PCOS, emphasizes the importance of prioritizing its management to achieve better health outcomes. · Women experience hormonal fluctuations throughout their lives, which can influence their ability to fast and affect their health goals. By acknowledging the impact of hormones on fastings, such as the suppression of certain hormones and potential metabolic complications, women can adapt their fasting strategies to align with their hormonal cycles. · The menstrual cycle consists of distinct phases with varying hormone dominance. Women can optimize their fasting experience and support hormone production by modifying fasting approaches and adopting time-restricted eating strategies. Recognizing the importance of changing fasting protocols during different phases allows for improved hormone balance and metabolic outcomes. [30:51] Acknowledge and Honor Your Unique Hormonal Cycle · Every woman's hormonal cycle is unique, and it's important to recognize and honour those variations. By observing how fasting and nutritional choices align with personal hormonal fluctuations, women can tailor their approach accordingly and find a balance that works for them. · Women can use the moon cycle as an illustrative guide to adapt their fasting and eating patterns. Just as the moon waxes and wanes, adjusting the dial on fasting intensity based on how it feels can provide a flexible and intuitive way to navigate hormonal changes and individual needs. ·: In a society inundated with external influences and societal expectations, reconnecting with one's body and intuition is crucial. Regularly checking in with oneself, listening to the body's signals, and adjusting fasting and nutrition strategies can lead to a more intuitive and sustainable approach to health and well-being. [41:42] How can your overall health outcomes be maintained and improved? · When starting a fasting and keto journey for individuals with insulin resistance or type 2 diabetes, strictness may vary based on personal circumstances and goals. Tailoring the approach to each individual's needs and preferences is crucial for long-term success. · A more strict and therapeutic fasting approach may be initially recommended to address severe insulin resistance and metabolic issues. This can involve longer fasting periods, time-restricted eating, and cutting out snacking and late-night eating to promote improved blood sugar control and insulin sensitivity. · Once significant improvements are achieved, adjustments can be made to incorporate variations and explore different strategies, such as including more carbohydrates or modifying fasting durations. Finding a balance between therapeutic protocols and sustainable long-term practices is important for maintaining progress and optimizing overall health outcomes. [47:10] How can women Manage their Hormonal Changes and Fasting Strategies? · Ovaries are crucial in producing sex hormones throughout a woman's childbearing years. As they retire, estrogen levels decline, leading to symptoms like sleep disturbances and hormonal imbalances. The adrenal glands step in to compensate, but chronic stress and age-related factors can further impact hormone production. · Postmenopausal women can benefit from a proactive approach to fasting. Hormonal imbalances like estrogen dominance can be reduced by addressing insulin resistance and emphasizing fat loss. Aggressive fasting protocols, similar to those used for diabetes management, are often implemented while also considering individual variations and the impact of stress. · Supporting women through hormonal fluctuations during fasting involves adopting a compassionate mindset and allowing for self-compassion during challenging times. Time-restricted eating and a more ketogenic approach can be incorporated during certain phases. Carb cycling remains beneficial for overall hormonal balance and metabolic health. AND MUCH MORE! Episode #72 In this Fasting Q&A episode, Nadia answers some of your fasting questions: 1. I obviously don't allow my children (11 and 13) to fast. They are hungry quite often though. Should I be guiding them to not eat snacks and to just eat larger meals so as to build a strong foundation of not snacking for their future metabolic health or should I listen to their hunger cues, considering that they are growing, and give them snacks on demand? Healthy snacks of course! What will set them up for future success health-wise? [02:17] 2. I have been into extended fasting for over a year now and have noticed I suddenly have all of these food intolerances that I didn't have before, or haven't had since I was a little girl. As a child, I was lactose intolerant, but as I got older, I was able to tolerate most dairy. Since I've started extended fasting, I can't tolerate any dairy at all without extreme flatulence and digestive consequences in the bathroom later. I've also noticed increased sensitivity to eggs, amongst other things. Has extended fasting caused these intolerances? [08:32] 3. What are the best foods to break a fast with? Is it best to break with a regular meal or something soft and easy to digest? I've heard eggs aren't a good choice but it seems like eggs would be easy on an empty tummy? [12:22] 4. How many eating days should you have between fasting? I like the 60/40 rule but a lot of people are saying you have to eat half as long as you fasted. Is that from another source besides The Fasting Method because 60/40 is definitely not half and people are pretty adamant in the Facebook group that you have to eat half as long as you fasted. [18:27] 5. I've been doing OMAD for the last 4 months and my hair is falling out, a lot. Also, my periods are now very long and heavy, and my anxiety is through the roof. What happening and what can I do to fix it? [22:09] 6. What do you think about taking beef liver supplements to obtain electrolytes? You recommend taking electrolytes as needed, but how would our ancestors have obtained salt and magnesium? [14:04] Eating Habits and Stress Level: The Culprit Behind Type Two Diabetes - Type 2 diabetes can manifest itself in a variety of ways. The most serious issues in modern society revolve around our eating habits and stress. - Always eating high-glucose food will lead to the development of hyperemia and insulin resistance. - Every time we eat, we raise our insulin levels slightly. So, if you snack and graze for hours daily, you constantly overload your system with insulin drops. [20:29] Don't Want To Add Fuel To The Fire? Reduce Your Carbohydrate Consumption - Glucose, the simple sugar itself, is a hundred percent dependent on insulin to get into ourselves and provide our body with fuel. - The more carbs and sugar you eat, the more insulin you're going to produce in response - Protein has many functions in the body, so there's minimal insulin response when it comes to eating protein. - Insulin response in dietary fat is negligible. - To prevent this disease from happening or getting worse, minimize carbohydrate intake and start a ketogenic diet. [25:10] The Negative Effects Of Storing Too Much Energy In Your Body - Accessing that stored energy in your fat is a huge pain. And then the fat cells accumulate, which is not good for your health. - Our cells are always at capacity when constantly eating these carbs. - It becomes toxic when you're always full of energy in cells. [35:55] Good Stress And Exercising: What Is The Difference? - When you're fasting, you activate the sympathetic nervous system, which is the fight or flight nervous system. - We just want to find the right amount of stress that challenges our bodies. - It's about finding a balance. [40:36] What Is C-Peptide And the benefits of Measuring It? - C peptides are manufactured by beta cells, and beta cells are the insulin-producing cells in our pancreas. - People who follow a ketogenic diet and regularly fast have low insulin advancement. - We would check fasting insulin and C peptides every time to get more of an indicator of the pancreas and its flexibility. [43:40] The Positive and Negative Effects of Having Low Levels of Insulin - A Longer ketogenic diet is not that problematic for men. - Most people inadvertently spike their insulin levels because of the state of society and our relationship with food. - Megan encourages carb cycling a few times a week for hormonal benefits - It's okay for women expecting a baby to eat fewer carbs during the first couple weeks of their cycle. Still, those carbs can be good for progesterone in the second half of the cycle. [51:43] False Studies And Misconceptions About Fasting You'll Need To Avoid - When reading a study, you'll need to look at the methodology and parameters used. - False Studies usually look at forms of time-restricted eating, but the controls are not very good. - Studies that say fasting does not work don't have controls, and the assessment of the population being tested is not there. [57:15] Insulin-resistant and metabolically healthy Patient: What Is The Result? - Patients who do 36 hours of fasting three times don't have loose skin. Furthermore, their skin tags are going away, and their scars are improving. - Those who do 20 to 24-hour fast have loose skin. - People with insulin resistance start with a minimum of the 36-hour protocol. Unfortunately, losing weight and having healthier blood glucose levels isn't as simple as eating less and restricting calories. To make matters worse, fasting, although a popular method of weight loss and health, is a lot more complicated than not eating. In this we have experts such as Dr. Jason Fung, Dr. Alan Goldhamer, and Mike Mutzel sharing their insights and research on how to approach fasting for weight loss and improved metabolic health. Dr Jason Fung is a nephrologist and the co-founder of the Fasting Method program which has helped millions of people lose weight and reverse type 2 diabetes. Unlike many nephrologists, Dr Fung supports and encourages the education of diabetes and weight loss being possible through intermittent fasting. He's a NY Times bestselling author and respected voice on fasting, weight loss, nutrition, and type 2 diabetes. Dr. Alan Goldhamer is the founder of TrueNorth Health Center. His clinic focuses on healing patients through plant based vegan diets, and clinical fasting. Dr Goldhamer is also the author of The Pleasure Trap, Mastering the Hidden Force that Undermines Health & Happiness. Mike Mutzel is a functional medicine consultant in the natural product industry. He's obsessed with evidence-based natural medicine and is the author of the Bell Fat Effect. Mike is also the founder of High Intensity Health. QUOTES: “It's not just about the calories, it's about the hormones.” Dr. Jason Fung “You can't burn body fat if insulin is high.” Dr Jason “If you fast and exercise you actually lose more weight but more of it is lean tissue. If you fast and rest you mobilize predominantly fat and specifically visceral fat.” Dr Alan Goldhamer “Drinking too much water can flush your electrolytes out and result in water intoxication.” Dr. Alan Goldhamer “I'm not really concerned about fat loss as the best proxy for health.” Mike Mutzel “Have the carbohydrate commence with the activity.” Mike Mutzel Follow Jason Fung: Website: https://www.doctorjasonfung.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drjasonfung/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/drjasonfung YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@drjasonfung Follow Dr. Alan Goldhamer: Website: https://www.healthpromoting.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/truenorthhealth Follow Mike Mutzel: Website: https://highintensityhealth.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MikeMutzelMS Twitter: https://twitter.com/MikeMutzel Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/metabolic_mike/ Sponsors: Sign up for a one-dollar-per-month trial period at http://www.shopify.com/impact This episode is sponsored by BetterHelp. Our guest today is Dr. Jason Fung, a Toronto-based nephrologist, and the best-selling author of “The Obesity Code,” “The Diabetes Code,” and “The Cancer Code.” Jason is best known for his success in combining a low-carb diet with intermittent fasting to help thousands of overweight patients reverse their type 2 diabetes, lose weight, and improve their metabolic health. Jason is the author of the blog “The Fasting Method” and the co-founder of the Intensive Dietary Management program, an initiative that provides low-carb dietary guidance and counseling on various fasting regimes. Jason is also the co-author with Jimmy Moore of “The Complete Guide to Fasting,” which looks at the history and culture of fasting and how it helps people improve their metabolic health. In today's episode, Ken is joined by Visiting IHMC research scientist Dr. Tommy Wood and together, they and Jason discuss: How in the beginning of his practice, Jason prescribed insulin for type 2 diabetes patients. How a series of landmark studies starting in 2008 changed Jason's mind about using glucose-lowering medication for type 2 diabetes. Jason's realization that type 2 diabetes is largely a dietary disease and therefore requires a dietary solution rather than a pharmaceutical one. The origins of Jason's Dietary Management program, which counsels overweight and obese patients to follow a low-carbohydrate, high-fat diet to reduce insulin. A critique of the “eat less, move more” strategy acclaimed by many obesity experts. Mark Mattson's research into the powerful impact of intermittent fasting on metabolic health and a recent paper that questioned the effectiveness of time-restricted eating when compared to daily calorie restriction. Recent research and evidence that fasting during chemotherapy may reduce the side effects of the treatment. Show notes: [00:02:25] Tommy opens the interview mentioning that Jason was born and raised in Toronto and asks what drew Jason to science as a kid. [00:03:43] Tommy mentions the irony that Jason has written several best-selling books, yet Jason was not fond of English or writing when he was in school. [00:04:53] Ken mentions that after graduating from high school, Jason stayed close to home and attended the University of Toronto, entering into medical school just after turning 19 to study internal medicine, eventually specializing in nephrology. Ken asks Jason what intrigued him about becoming a kidney specialist. [00:06:36] Tommy asks Jason what led him to go to UCLA after medical school for his specialty training in kidney disease at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. [00:07:37] Tommy mentions that Jason has been practicing clinical nephrology in Toronto since 2001, and that in those early years of his practice, Jason saw patients with type 2 diabetes and prescribed medications to keep their blood glucose low. When that didn't work, he would prescribe insulin, which is the standard medical practice. Tommy asks what Jason observed during these early years of his practice. [00:09:28] Ken mentions that in 2008, two landmark studies were published, the ACCORD study and the ADVANCE study (a summary of ADVANCE). These studies were followed by two more studies, the ORIGIN and VADT studies, all four of which demonstrated that using blood glucose-lowering medication for type 2 diabetes didn't necessarily have the expected benefits. Ken asks Jason to talk about how these studies were eye-opening for him and confirmed his own experience in treating patients. [00:16:27] Tommy explains that in 1972 Robert Atkins published the “Dr. Atkins' Diet Revolution,” which shared his findings on the effectiveness of low-carb, high-fat dieting. Tommy goes on to mention that in the late 1990s, a string of Atkins-styled diet books surged in popularity, with most physicians being opposed due to the conventional wisdom that these high-fat diets would cause heart disease. As a result,
I am so excited to bring to you this incredible episode with Dr. Nadia Pateguana! If you aren't already familiar with her, she is a Naturopathic Doctor and Dietary Coach at The Fasting Method. She works with Dr. Jason Fung and Megan Ramos. She also wrote a book -- 'The PCOS Plan: Prevent and Reverse Polycystic Ovary Syndrome through Diet and Fasting' -- with Dr. Jason Fung. ★ Free Weekly Carnivore Fat Loss Masterclass The carnivore diet has gained incredible popularity for its healing and fat loss benefits. The carnivore diet focuses exclusively on consuming an animal-based diet, prioritising ruminant meats. What is the Carnivore Feasting and Fasting Method? The Feasting and Fasting method was created by Coach Raymond Nazon, master coach of the Steak and Butter Gang. With this method, there are three stages: 1. Priming - A 2-week period of over-satiating your body with nutrients, consuming 3 meals a day. 2. 2MADs - moving to a 2MAD diet should be quite easy at this stage. 3. Fasting - moving to an OMAD approach or rolling 48s How does this method help with burning belly fat? When you start a carnivore diet, there can be an adaptation phase. Getting used to eating a zero-carb diet should occur over a few weeks or months using the Bulletproof Carnivore Method. After this transition phase, you can enter the feasting and fasting method which allows for intermittent fasting and prolonged fasting to occur. Where the magic happens! In this fasting state, your body will use its own body fat as energy via a process of ketosis. When you are consuming a Standard American Diet, your body runs off glucose most of the time, which is a short-acting form of energy. That's why you feel the blood sugar swings, and energy crashes from carbohydrates. When you stick with an animal-based diet paired with natural fasting, you will notice a lower body fat percentage, flatter stomach and more visible abs. What about mental clarity? Another benefit of the carnivore fasting and feasting method is mental clarity and sharpness. Typically the human brain runs off ketones and fat as its prime energy fuel. When you are fasting you will notice more mental clarity, easier decision making and less need for distractions. Some carnivore experts have called it a zen experience. When the brain is hyper-focused and clear.

[00:55] Embracing Changes To Succeed On Your Health Journey Larry had to embrace change and make his health a priority to succeed. In the past, Larry was morbidly obese and had IBS, bloody gums, bloody stools, severe asthma, allergies, depression, and brain fog. One day, Larry stopped buying bread and pasta. Plus, he threw out the canola oil and did a whole pantry makeover. Larry recommends reading Grain Brain: https://www.amazon.com/Grain-Brain-Surprising-Sugar-Your-Killers/dp/031623480X/benazadi-20. Also, Larry says he learned a lot from Eat Like A Human: https://eatlikeahuman.com/. In total, Larry has lost 120 pounds. [09:25] Both Kay Lynne and Larry Have Benefited From Lifestyle Changes As an elementary school teacher, Kay Lynne ate a lot of processed foods throughout the day. When Larry changed his diet, Kay Lynne followed suit. Larry and Kay Lynne started intermittent fasting organically because they simply weren't hungry. Kay Lynne's heaviest weight was 210, and she lost 70 pounds. [16:25] Changing Your Lifestyle Can Make Your Relationships Even Better Larry and Kay Lynne's relationship got better when they changed their diets. Not being hungry all the time was one of the best benefits of their lifestyle changes. Plus, Larry and Kay Lynne feel more comfortable in their bodies. Weight loss is excellent for a better and more pleasurable experience in your own body. [21:00] Remember That We Are Still Fundamentally Our Ancestors Larry recommends checking out Primal Blueprint: https://www.primalblueprint.com/ Primal Blueprint focuses not just on food but on the whole person. Movement and mindset are also crucial on your journey to health. Sometimes people just try and change their food. Well, there are so many other things you need to consider when becoming healthy. Remember, we are still fundamentally our ancestors. [31:55] The Importance of Feasting and Fasting In Your Lifestyle The only thing better than fasting is eating, and the only thing better than eating is fasting. Our ancestors enjoyed large full meals. The only thing constant about nature is change. So why shouldn't we change our diet? You can eat higher real food carbs productively during a feast. Carb cycling is a great way to make sure you don't plateau. Variation is magic when it comes to your health! [38:05] How To Inspire Your Partner To Make Lifestyle Changes You should lead by example when making lifestyle changes with your spouse. Remember, you can't control the people around you. Stick to your lifestyle changes and show your partner how much better you feel. Larry's enthusiasm and consistency motivated Kay Lynne to change her diet and lifestyle. For your journey to success, we all have to know that even our best friend and closest partner is not responsible for what we put in our mouths. We can't force change; we can serve as an example. If you don't control your dopamine receptors, they will control you.Look at your life. It's a product of your behaviour. Look at your behaviour; is it a product of the neurotransmitter dopamine? Dopamine runs people's lives, and most people have no say or control in the way they unconsciously behave because their relationship with stimulus is ruined by dopamine. Today's video tackles this issue and gives you my exact strategies and methods I used to ‘hack' my dopamine receptors and system so I can be 10x more productive and get 10x more work done. And no, it's not going to tell you to ‘fast from dopamine for 24 hours'. That doesn't work.I hope you find it helpful. If you do, consider subscribing :)Thanks,Charlie

The amazing Megan Ramos was on the show with me in Episode 116, and I am delighted to have her join me again today! Megan is a Canadian clinical educator and expert on therapeutic fasting and low carbohydrate diets, having guided more than 14,000 people worldwide. She is the co-author of the New York Times Bestseller Life in the Fasting Lane and co-founded The Fasting Method with her colleague, Dr. Jason Fung. Modern agriculture and the processed food industry have led to the mass production of hyper-palatable, highly salted, and sugared foods designed to be addictive. That has resulted in millions of people becoming obese and developing inflammatory and metabolic disorders. Fasting is an effective method for overcoming those problems. Megan and I both feel that it is vital for women to know that and to understand that fasting is a sustainable lifelong strategy for maintaining optimum health. In this episode, we debunk the myths and misconceptions around women and intermittent fasting. We talk about the evolution of the agricultural processed food industry and the impact it has had on people's health. We also discuss leptin resistance, how stress impacts hormones, different types of body fat, fasting in women who are still cycling versus those in menopause, PCOS, the impact of fasting on thyroid health, weight loss plateaus, and troubleshooting while fasting. Stay tuned for more! IN THIS EPISODE YOU WILL LEARN: Megan unpacks and busts the myths and misconceptions around women and intermittent fasting and explains how fasting enhanced every aspect of her health and the health of thousands of other women. How modern processed food was designed to be addictive. Why do we need to cut out snacking and start eating less? What leptin resistance is, and how to overcome it with fasting. Megan explains why the fear-mongering around fasting is unfounded. The body is a whole system. So if there is one hormonal imbalance, that will probably trigger others. Megan talks about the success she has seen in women with PCOS who fast. The body composition of a tophi individual and the difference between visceral fat and subcutaneous fat. Why should healthy women fast? Megan explains why postmenopausal women find fasting easier than other women do. What are the benefits of using the DUTCH dried urine hormone test? What can women do to deal with weight-loss plateaus? Megan shares some tips for avoiding having diarrhea when breaking your fast. In today's episode, we share our journey from illness to being able to help the people we work with lose weight and reverse the chronic and "incurable" type 2 diabetes. Truth be told, we started this podcast because there is so much misinformation out there about intermittent fasting. Today our team at The Fasting Method has worked with over 16,000 adults worldwide helping them achieve sustainable weight loss and improve blood glucose levels through various fasting strategies and real, whole-food nutrition principles. We believe we have a responsibility to bust these fasting myths and set the record straight. And we're not just practioners of fasting; it's saved our lives. We've struggled with obesity, type 2 diabetes, polycystic ovarian syndrome, and fatty liver disease. We were able to take the lessons we learned throughout our own journeys and apply them, first to our clincial practice and then to our online community, and now we want to bring them to you in this podcast. The Surprising Science Behind Cancer Prevention | This episode is sponsored by Pique TeaThe right diet is so imperative in preventing cancer or during the healing process. This is in large part because of the role insulin plays in cancer; insulin acts as a growth factor in the body, which is one of the reasons too much insulin leads to obesity. It's also why insulin will support the growth of cancer cells. In this compilation episode, Dr. Mark Hyman is joined by Dr. William Li and Dr. Jason Fung to discuss how recent research is now revealing the connection between insulin resistance and cancer, what you can eat to prevent cancer, and much more.Dr. William Li is an internationally renowned physician, scientist and author of one of my favorite books, the New York Times bestseller Eat to Beat Disease: The New Science of How Your Body Can Heal Itself. His groundbreaking work has led to the development of more than 30 new medical treatments and impacted care for more than 70 diseases including cancer, diabetes, blindness, heart disease and obesity. His TED Talk, “Can We Eat to Starve Cancer?” has garnered more than 11 million views. Dr. Li has appeared on Good Morning America, CNN, CNBC, Live with Kelly & Ryan and the Dr. Oz Show, and he has been featured in USA Today, Time Magazine, The Atlantic, Parade and O Magazine. He is president and medical director of the Angiogenesis Foundation and is leading research into COVID-19.Dr. Jason Fung is a physician, author, and researcher. His groundbreaking science-based books about diabetes and obesity, The Diabetes Code, The Obesity Code, and The Complete Guide to Fasting have sold over one million copies and challenged the conventional wisdom that diabetics should be treated with insulin. Why Fasting And The Ketogenic Diet Can Help With Cancer Treatment and Prevention | This episode is brought to you by InsideTrackerThe right diet is so imperative in preventing cancer or during the healing process. This is in large part because of the role insulin plays in cancer; insulin acts as a growth factor in the body, which is one of the reasons too much insulin leads to obesity. It’s also why insulin will support the growth of cancer cells. Recent research is now revealing some fascinating results of using fasting and/or the keto diet to dramatically decrease insulin. In this mini-episode, Dr. Hyman speaks to Dr. Jason Fung about how fasting has been found as a useful adjunct to chemotherapy, as it helps to put cells into a quiet repair mode which lessens the really uncomfortable symptoms of chemo most people experience. He also speaks with Dr. Patrick Hanaway about his experience in managing stage IV cancer, using the ketogenic diet, fasting, radiation, chemotherapy, and his spiritual practices for maximum benefit. Dr. Dr. Fung is also the co-founder of The Fasting Method, a program to help people lose weight and reverse type 2 diabetes naturally with fasting. His latest book, The Cancer Code: A Revolutionary New Understanding of a Medical Mystery, was just released. Dr. Patrick Hanaway is a board-certified family physician trained at Washington University. After 10 years as Chief Medical Officer at Genova Diagnostics, Dr. Hanaway became the Chief Medical Education Officer for the Institute for Functional Medicine. Daisy Brackenhall Daisy Brackenhall is a Brit who has been living in rural France for the past 17 years. She lost half her body weight with weight loss surgery and low carb eating and has since maintained a healthy weight with keto. Keto has also helped her significantly reduce depression and migraines. She is a part-time gardener and lives with her three dogs and cats. Daisy is a podcaster and produces two weekly podcasts. In the Keto Woman podcast Daisy chats with extraordinary women and shares their inspiring stories with listeners. Monday Mindset is Daisy's newest podcast and a collaboration with her friend and psychologist Terri Lance, who works at The Fasting Method. Each week they share with each other and their listeners something that they've found inspiring or motivational. A few years ago Daisy created and continues to run a successful Facebook group for women called Kickarse Keto Bitches. With almost 3000 members from all around the world, the group functions as a safe and inviting community for women to find and offer support to one another. This crossover episode is the second episode with our KetoWoman and Monday Mindset podcast host Daisy Brackenhall. We had a wide-ranging conversation over various topics around various life issues. Louise and Daisy are kindred-keto spirits as their respective weight gain and weight loss journeys were very similar, which they found out when they met through the 2KetoDudes group. Louise was lucky enough to visit Daisy at her acreage in southern rural France when she was living and working in the UK. Daisy was instrumental as host of her KetoWoman podcast which introduced Jackie and Louise. As they say, the rest is history. Because it really gives you a very clear picture of what it feels like to be without it. So you've got a good comparison. So at some point, I might do it, but whether it would ever stick long term? I don't know.” “I have lymphedema. I haven't had an official diagnosis but I'm definitely a lippy lady as they like to call themselves.” “So I think it's a really good idea just to find out if you're sensitive to things because knowledge is power, isn't it? Terri Lance Terri Lance comes to this LCHF/Keto arena as part of her own personal and now professional journey. She battled obesity all of her life since childhood and was diagnosed with type II diabetes in her early 30s. It wasn't until the age of 45 that she learned that she could actually manage her weight and reverse her diabetes through her dietary approach and also fasting. Professionally, she started as a middle school teacher before attending graduate school to earn her PhD as a psychologist. She then spent about 14 years as a therapist in private practice. During her health transformation, Terri began working as a coach at The Fasting Method. She now enjoys coaching others to achieve their weight loss and health goals. Terri is still often surprised about how her life is because in her 30s her life was on a different trajectory. She was getting sick and whilst initially she thought she had time to wait until her 70s to do something about it, she soon realised that she didn't have that luxury. The success of changing your diet is influenced by your mindset. There is a great power in understanding your behaviours and triggers.
