He soon moved thereafter to Washington, D.C. where he wrote his first book, Guards of the Heart, consisting of four plays written in poetic form. In Washington D.C., he worked at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and was extraordinarily active in the cultural scene of that city. He served as the President of the Board of the Poetry Committee at The Folger Shakespeare Library from 1994-1997 and as the Literary Editor of the arts bi-monthly The Washington Review from 1991-1997. He also Co-founded and directed the In Your Ear poetry reading series at the District of Columbia Arts Center. During these years Ross continued to publish poetry, including How to Write; or, I used to be in love with my jailer (Texture Press, 1992); An American Voyage (Sun & Moon Press, 1993); Push (Leave Books, 1994); De-flections (Potes and Poets, 1994); Full Silence (Upper Limit Music, 1995); and The Fuzzy Logic Series (Texture Press, 1996). His poetry reveals close links with the "Language" poets but seeks in its often disjunctive structure, puns, and linguistic riddles, to be accessible to a large audience. Many of Ross's poems are subliminally political while concerned with love and interrelations between individuals. The American Voyage, in particular, concerns the idealism of American culture and its failures as a culture to live up to those ideals. Douglas Messerli, Publisher of Sun & Moon Press In 1997 he received a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship Award for his poetry and moved to San Diego, where he worked for The City of San Diego Commission's for Arts and Culture. In 1999, he left that position to put his poetics into practice, and to work directly in politics. He served as the Senior Chief of Policy for several elected officials. He also continued to be very active in the San Diego cultural scene, serving as a board member of the San Diego Art Institute and Co-founding and curating the Beyond the Page reading series in that city. Two more books appeared: The Wood Series (Seeing Eye Books, 1997); and EQUATIONS=equals (Green Integer, 2004). In 2003 he received his first of three Gertrude Stein Poetry Awards. In 2004, he moved to Paris, where he continues to publish while working in communication and social change. His most recent titles are: Strati (Bi-lingual Italian/English, La Camera Verde, 2007); Strata (Dusie Press, 2008); Wordlick (Green Integer, 2011); 1000 Folds (Chax Press, 2014); Last Days on Earth (Dusie Press, 2017); and History and its Making – The Making of History (Bi-lingual French/English, Presses Universitaires de Rouen et du Havre, 2017). John William Polidori, an Italian-English physician and writer born in 1795, was a notable figure associated with the Romantic movement. As the eldest son of Gaetano Polidori, an Italian scholar, and Anna Maria Pierce, a governess, Polidori was exposed to intellectual pursuits from a young age. He received his medical degree from the University of Edinburgh in 1815 at the remarkably young age of 19. Polidori's literary talents and connections led him to serve as personal physician to the renowned poet Lord Byron, embarking on a European tour with him in 1816. During their travels, Polidori found himself in the company of other literary luminaries, including Mary Shelley and Percy Bysshe Shelley. It was during this time, at the Villa Diodati by Lake Geneva, that the idea for "The Vampyre" took shape. Inspired by a fragment of a story by Lord Byron, Polidori penned his own tale, which would go on to become the first vampire story in English literature. Originally published in April 1819 in the New Monthly Magazine, "The Vampyre" was falsely attributed to Lord Byron, likely to capitalize on his fame. This misattribution persisted for years, causing confusion over the true authorship of the story. Polidori's "The Vampyre" introduced several key features of the vampire archetype that would influence vampire literature for generations to come. Notably, his portrayal of Lord Ruthven, the titular vampyre, departed from the traditional folkloric depictions of vampires as grotesque creatures. Instead, Polidori's vampyre was an aristocratic figure, seductive and charming, preying on high society. Lord Ruthven's aristocratic allure, coupled with his predatory nature and mysterious aura, set the template for the modern vampire, ushering in a new era of vampire fiction characterized by sophistication and allure. Infected Rain INFECTED RAIN experienced their most successful years yet in 2022 and 2023, commencing with the release of their fifth full-length album, Ecdysis. The album garnered prime media acclaim, hundreds of thousands of streams and views, and debuted in the Top 20 on the US Current Hard Music charts - all accented by worldwide performances at major festivals and with the likes of Butcher Babies, Wednesday 13 and more. On February 9, 2024, the band will climb even higher with their multifaceted sixth album, TIME. Described by the multinational band as “an homage to every fleeting second, every heartbeat, and every breath that has led us to this moment,” TIME was once again produced, mixed and mastered by Valentin Voluta, and combines the deft talents of returning members Vidick (guitars, cover artist), Eugene Voluta (drums) and famed frontwoman Lena Scissorhands (vocals), plus introduces new member Alice Lane (bass) to the fold. INFECTED RAIN exercise their trademarks with TIME, tastefully accenting the introspective musical journey with effectively-placed progressive, electronic and even nu-metal features amid ethereal passages. First track “BECAUSE I LET YOU” bursts in with undeniable energy, boasting aggressive lyrics and Lena Scissorhands' swift, menacing delivery. Previously released first single “DYING LIGHT” marches with subterranean heaviness and rhythmic grooves beneath eerie vocals and keys, and even snaps into an EDM passage, showcasing the dynamic delivery of the band in 2024. “NEVER TO RETURN” flirts with trip-hop elements and far eastern instrumentation before the melodic ode to self-empowerment “LIGHTHOUSE” crashes in to juxtapose soft verses and intense auditory shifts. Album standout and djent driven “VIVARIUM” warns of society's fickle freedoms as Lena Scissorhands delivers some of the album's most hair-raising screams amid a haunting, ominous atmosphere, while fast-paced burners like “THE ANSWER IS YOU” and “ENMITY” flash between various EDM, synthwave and even drum and bass brushed transits amid bludgeoning rhythms. Intense “GAME OF BLAME” explores themes of hypocrisy and emotional pain delved out by those we love while boasting one of the album's most searing breakdowns, while tracks like “PANDEMONIUM” and “UNPREDICTABLE” detail the uncontrollable energy of the future and past, respectively - boasting lofty, angelic verses with hard-hitting guitars and punching drums. Italian/English-language journey “PAURA” closes out the album with a path to self-discovery - beckoning the listener to understand that we limit ourselves with our own fears, and must harness the pain to overcome. TIME ends in a state of calm with ambient finisher “A SECOND OR A THOUSAND YEARS” - drawing the curtains closed on yet another fantastic, experimental expedition by rising stars INFECTED RAIN. https://www.infectedrain.com https://label.napalmrecords.com/infectedrain https://infectedrain.bandcamp.com _ Date: 7 March 2024 Voices: Lena | Arthur Notes: recorded on a tour bus; before the gig at Gasometer Cover Photo: Interceptor Beyond _ Interceptor Beyond Podcast Website: https://www.interceptorbeyond.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/interceptorbeyond Hashtags: #interceptorbeyond #interceptorbeyondpodcast #infectedrain

In this episode of Out of the Clouds, host Anne Muhlethaler interviews writer, copy editor and journalist Manfreda Cavazza. The two have been collaborating since late 2020, with Manfreda supporting Anne in her writing for the blog and newsletter she publishes weekly for her company, AVM Consulting. They share a number of values, including, among other things, a love of words well used, storytelling and values-driven strategies. In this interview, the Italian-English writer shares stories about her childhood spent between Brazil, Italy and England, her beginnings as a journalist in London covering the retail sector, and her adventures sailing around the world for a year with her husband and two young daughters. Manfreda loves to talk about voice - the importance of purposeful writing and tone - as a tool for brands or freelancers to leverage when crafting their message so they find the right audience. The two talk about thinking of the audience first, why they dislike the word “content,” and how we could all do well to remember to use a little humour in writing copy. For anyone who cares about how writing can support connection with your clients or audience, this is a wonderful interview full of applicable insights. There was a point during the week where the Italian-English dictionary was coming out but there's another chapter to come for Leicester and Wolves in this week's 'Football Manager Football Show.Last time out, we finished the final day of the season with an epic, end-to-end, highlight-ridden live play of Wolves v Leicester at the Molineux. While the title was already heading to Wolves, the 2-2 draw that played out cemented what was a pretty solid season in the Championship. So this week, with no games left to play, we're keeping an eye on the playoffs and who will be joining us in England's top tier for season 3.With the transfer market set to open and pre-season training on the way, the vultures are circling. Some of Europe's big names are clearing house and Wolves and Leicester both find their own big names in big demand. The summer signings are coming thick and fast though as pre-season promises must be made, budgets and tactics have to be decided and the fixtures list comes out.Oh, and with the World Cup heading to Qatar in November, is there a possibility we'll see the toes being dipped into international management or is it all a bridge too far?

Franc Cinelli, Italian born singer/songwriter talks keeping your art pure, genuine and authentic in an age of social media and streaming. "My name is Franc, I write songs. Usually the folky kind, but sometimes the other kind as well. I was born in Rome and grew up in London. I was raised on a sterling collection of blues, folk, country and wholesome rock n roll music. Muddy Waters, Lucio Dalla, Lucinda Williams, Blaze Foley are some of my favourite artists. I write songs to try and figure out my place in this world, how I relate to my surroundings and try and learn to be a better man. I share my songs to try and find a common thread with other people, knowing that someone else is going through it too is both empowering and soothing. Maybe you will identify with things I write about, maybe I will identify with how you're feeling."
Tonight, we’ll read a letter Thomas Jefferson sent to Maria Cosway in 1786. Jefferson, a widower, met Cosway, who was married, while travelling in France and was rather charmed by the Italian-English artist. In this letter, a sorrowful Jefferson pines for her and imagines a debate between his head and his heart. He writes, the only “effective security against such pain of unrequited love, is to retire within ourselves and to suffice for our own happiness.” -- Read by 'M'Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/snoozecast)
OUR CREATIVE INTRODUCTIONBy Daniela Pavan & Tommaso CartiaWelcome to the Creative Pois-On Podcast. The very first creative impulse, the very first act of connection with our audience, the very first storyline cast out to interconnect the polka-dots of our creativity. The voice of our host for the month of October, Digital Strategist, Beauty & Fitness Model and Executive Producer of Melange 2019, Mara De Los Santos, breaks through the remote outer space of our world of ideas, to start reviving our thirst for creativity… relax, take a deep breath… ready, set, imagine…Truth is we never met but we imagine you. We imagine that you wake up in the morning, have breakfast or have no time for breakfast, and then get ready to work. We imagine you leaving your place and kissing your partner, or desiring one or enjoying the empowerment of being independent. We imagine you running to your workplace or comfortably sitting at your freelance desk at a lively co-working space. We imagine you checking your to-do list, attending meetings, making calls, having projects to finish and deadlines to meet, bosses to please or just yourself to please in the most bossy-ble way. We imagine you having clients to deal with, colleagues to connect with, share work and life with, share nothing at all and disagree with. We imagine you having a drink after work with those colleagues you share work and life with or nothing at all, or if it’s your lucky day, with your best friend who you haven’t seen in ages, who lives just a few train stops away from you. We imagine you getting back home and having dinner while binge watching your new favorite shows, or possibly sharing time with your loved one, desired one, or simply employing your independent master chef skills. We imagine you getting ready to go to bed, brushing your teeth, reading a book… is your brain shutting down or it is suddenly awakening? The question now is: are you happy with the day you just had, loving it for what it is, or you are wondering about all the things that could have been? Are we imagining it, or are you? Why are you doing the things you do? Who gave to your life the shape it has now? We imagine it was you, your imagination, the output of what you dreamed for yourself.Once upon a time, there was Imagination. We all remember it, right? It was part of our games when we were children, but then we grew up and forgot about it, along with the beauty of storytelling, and the wondrous power of connection that a story can channel. A connection between human beings, a connection between people and the experiences they are actually living in or just imagining, a connection to an original source, an ancestral creative magma where everything and anything can be possible and can come to life. Once upon a time, there was also Freedom. We all remember it, right? That Freedom that imagination and creativity allow us to experience and through which we can design or redesign our personal story, countless times, and in countless possible ways, like in a page full of dots where anything seems isolated, but suddenly it appears connected and so beautiful in its abstractions. With this podcast, we want to give all of this back to you and make imagination accessible again to all of us. Why? Because imagination leads to evolution and creativity leads to innovation. Our name, Creative Pois-On, is inspired by the illustrious artist YaYoi Kusama, who once said: “A polka-dot has the form of the sun, which is a symbol of the energy of the whole world and our living life, and also the form of the moon, which is calm. Round, soft, colorful, senseless and unknowing. Polka-dots can’t stay alone; like the communicative life of people, two or three polka-dots become movement…! Polka-dots are a way to infinity.” So, we named ourselves after the concept of polka dots, because life is made by people who are somehow connected, and people get ideas… but what is a single idea if it cannot be connected creatively to other ideas? This Podcast is an original idea by Daniela Pavan and Tommaso Cartia, with the collaboration of Costanza Biasibetti. Entrepreneur, Forbes Contributor, Design and Innovation Manager and Strategic Leader, Daniela was born and raised in Italy, and she is now based in NYC, that’s why she is blessed with both Italian artistic passion and NYC’s unique edge! Currently she covers the role of General Manager at The Ad Store NYC, creative agency part of an international network, and is also member of the M.A.C. Lab (Lab for Management of Arts and Culture) of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, Italy. She is also Co-Founder of the Ca’ Foscari University Alumni– NYC Chapter and a collaborates with Ruler Art, Art Gallery based in NYC. A bridge builder between the world of Creatives and the Business environment, through her Forbes articles she explores creativity, innovation and storytelling.Italian Communications and Media Specialist, Journalist and Writer based in New York Tommaso Cartia, has over a decade of experience in the media, publishing and the entertainment business field. He is currently an Editor of the American version of Red Carpet Magazine as well as the Founder of his own editorial project, The Digital Poet. Tommaso is also a well-known Copywriter and a PR executive specifically within the Italian and the Italian American community in New York City. He is also the writer of the lyrical memoir “Reincarnazione Sentimentale”, published in Italy in 2014, and he has been working extensively as a bilingual Italian/English – journalist for different publications. His articles span a variety of topics including art, entertainment, lifestyle and food. He has interviewed celebrities of the caliber of Gina Lollobrigida, Michael Cunningham, Erica Jong, Valeria Golino, to name a few. He also worked as a producer for movies and as a digital marketer and copywriter for film companies and festivals. Creative Pois-On is going to be an unusual podcast, because Tommaso and Daniela will be not just creative directors but also guests… every month a different host, a different voice, will come to converse with them on a specific topic such as imagination, connection, transformation, enlightenment… to name a few. This is because Creative Pois-On strongly believes in the power of generating and sharing ideas to connect the dots and immerse ourselves in the multi-layered, multi-dimensional and overly digitalized world we live in. Each topic will be discussed from a creative, cultural and even business perspective in order to explore how much creativity could be crucial and essential in any fields, from the most corporate to the most artistic and independent ones. After a brief introduction that we call The Creative Briefing, Daniela will discuss the monthly topic by connecting the dots between the world of business and creativity, exploring its potentials and providing insights and ideas with her “The Creative Bridge” episode. While Tommaso will give voice to a more humanistic talk with interpolations with the world of entertainment, iconography and Pop Culture: “The Creative Being”.The final episode, The Creative Interview, will be graced by a special guest who embodies and successfully represents the treated topic.New York will be Creative Pois-On’s solid ground, a kaleidoscopic platform that interconnects the entire world with its variety and complexity in terms of dimensions, groups, ethnicities, businesses and artistic venues. We imagine you comfortably letting yourself go to the timeless power of your creativity. Let’s get started… ready, set, imagine!

Are you as fed up as I am with all the negative news pertaining to Immigrants? Well let me tell you people, Anastasia Goroshkova’s backstory is just as riveting as her current success story! Amongst many momentous updates and achievements in Anastasia’s ever-inspiring journey is now news of collaboration with international publishers as well as the interest of a member of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association in the concept of Anastasia’s second book! The laundry list of yumminess in this woman’s incredible journey is simply remarkable this week on C-Suite Radio/The C-Suite Network! Anastasia’s story is relatable to millions of people and immigrants in Canada and worldwide. Anastasia Goroshkova was born in 1990 in Yekaterinburg, Russia, one year before the USSR collapsed. She has many historical ties to Russia. Her ancestors were from St. Petersburg; their story reminiscent of Boris Pasternak’s novel “Doctor Zhivago”. Her Godmother is a Romanov, currently 92, and exhibiting art in many of Russia’s museums – most recently at the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow. Anastasia’s passion for writing was inspired by a huge home library, containing the best of Russian and world literature. She remembers visiting orphanages when she was small, tagging along with her mother who interpreted to American adoptive parents. At that time orphanages in Russia hosted 3 million children. But few got lucky. Anastasia’s childhood impressions contributed to her desire to give back through humanitarian initiatives and to become a writer. Now, Anastasia is a staff reporter for Corriere Canadese, the only daily Italian-English newspaper in Canada (founded 1954) whose publisher, Joe Volpe, is a former minister of immigration in Canada. Corriere Canadese has applied for a National News Licence. Anastasia has been invited to become a screenwriter and host (covering culture) for the potential TV channel launching in 2019 or the online media channel should Corriere Canadese fail to secure the licence at the end of November. Anastasia is a reporter for Noviy Svet (New World) a top literary journal of the Russian community which features Russian writers living in Russia and abroad. Alena Joukova – the cofounder and editor of Noviy Svet, is a well-known contemporary Russian author, involved in many literary initiatives of the Russian community in Canada. Lyudmila Ulitskaya, Austrian State Prize for European Literature Winner, debuted in Noviy Svet as a poet. Last month, Anastasia attended the Frankfurt Book Fair, on behalf of Corriere Canadese and Noviy Svet, conducting over 30 interviews with representatives of Italian, Russian, and American publishing and media. She will be attending the Frankfurt Book Fair again in 2020, when Canada is guest of honor. The interviews will be featured in the upcoming issues of Corriere Canadese, on the Corriere Canadese website, and in the Noviy Svet literary journal. Anastasia is starting collaboration with Annemarie O’Brien, an instructor at Stanford University and a Knopf, Random House author (“Lara’s Gift” – a novel about pre-revolutionary Russia). Their book will be a POV of the American and Russian perspective of 1990s-2000s Russia. Anastasia has written 2 novels – a literary fiction and a historical fiction which are currently requested for review by several publishing houses, including HarperCollins, Simon & Schuster, and Grove/Atlantic, NYC. The concept of her second novel has caught the interest of a member of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. In addition to writing, Anastasia merges creativity with business at a global level as Chief Communications Officer of Semper8 Capital – an advisory and investment firm founded by her brother, an HBS alumnus.
