On this podcast, we have a chat with Brad Perry, the CEO of Grain Producers South Australia. We chat with Brad just after he has toured South Australia with the Federal Minister for Agriculture, Julie Collins. We discuss this visit, along with topics such as the drought, available support, the reclassification of farming land, and a range of other issues.
The ACCC announces further investigations into concerns around a proposed merger between agribusiness giant Elders and rival Delta Ag, farmers and ag groups meet with the Federal Agriculture Minister to talk more support for drought-affected SA, and an evaluation of the Murray-Darling Basin Plan shows environmental water having positive impacts on biodiversity and habitat quality.
Federal Agriculture Minister Julie Collins is touring South Australia today and has announced $800,000 for rural financial counselling services in SA and Victoria, heavy lamb prices hit a national all time high this week -first $400 per head in Ballarat and then $405 in Horsham and the Coalition is officially back together just over a week after they parted ways.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander listeners are advised that this episode discusses heavy topics surrounding the Myall Creek Massacre of 1838, and may contain the names of people who have died. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Myall Creek Memorial in it's current form. Over 180 years ago, settlers murdered at least 28 Aboriginal people who had taken refuge from colonial violence at Myall Creek Station. What makes this event different to others is that it was the first and only time in Australian history where white settlers were charged with the murder of Aboriginal people. Seven men were hanged. Each year around June 10th, the Friends of Myall Creek mark the occasion with a memorial service, now held at the site. In 2018 The University of New England's School of Law became involved, running a symposium ahead of the memorial at the Oorala Aboriginal Centre. In today's episode, Ash sits down with Julie Collins and Andrew Lawson, two members of the Armidale branch of the Friends of Myall Creek, about their involvement in the memorial, the symposium, and its relevance to the study of law in NSW, and the act of Reconciliation. Julie Collins, Minister for Housing, Homelessness and Small Business
WA potato growers have held a crisis meeting in Bunbury to discuss the rising cost of production, which may force more growers to leave the industry. This time next week, Tasmanian MP Julie Collins hopes she'll be Australia's agriculture minister in an Anthony Albanese government. Labor plans to end live sheep exports and would effectively axe the agriculture visa. Julie Collins says a Labor government would bolster biosecurity measures, but refuses to say how it would be funded. Grain Producers Australia has welcomed Federal Labor's commitment to discuss an ACCC inquiry into grain prices, to explain why Australian farmers are getting up to $400 per tonne less for their product than farmers overseas.
Shadow agriculture spokesperson Julie Collins has confirmed the ALP's policy is to shut down Australia's $92 million live sheep export industry but unlike at the last election won't give a time frame and in a statement the LNP's agriculture minister David Littleproud said 'Australians have been given a glimpse of how they'll be treated by an Alabanese Government' adding 'Labor's plan would cut 3000 jobs'.
Australia's $92 million live sheep export industry would end if Labor is elected at this month's federal election. For months, the Shadow agriculture minister Julie Collins has refused to say if the party planned to end the live sheep trade, a policy it took to the last federal election. In a statement to the ABC, a Labor party spokesperson confirmed it would ban the trade. Australian Livestock Exporters' Council CEO Mark Harvey-Sutton said it was a disappointing result. “There's many reasons livestock volumes change over time, including price and market supply. “To call the industry a declining industry does not give it due respect to its importance both to our producers or geopolitically to trading partners.”
The Australian Alliance for Animals says the Labor Party has confirmed it will phase out the live sheep export industry if it wins power at the federal election. Up until now the federal shadow agriculture minister Julie Collins has been unavailable to confirm the party's policy position on the future of live animal exports. But, the party has made its position clear on the trade in a survey conducted by the Australian Alliance for Animals. Geoff Pearson, chair of the livestock council with lobby group WAFarmers, said "it's concerned that we can have a shadow minister listening to the beat of a drum of an animal alliance" when it comes to the future of the live sheep trade. Wayne Pech runs about thirty thousand sheep on his farm just south of Gnowangerup in WA's Great Southern. He believes a forward thinking government should help the sheep industry transition away from live exports and towards value-adding here in Australia.

"America's health care workers are on the brink of collapse. If we want them to hold on and be there for us when we are too sick to walk, stand or breathe, we must act now. Cast aside political opinions. Follow CDC guidelines. Wear masks when you are in a group of people. Remain properly vaccinated. Maintain social distances. And please extend extra consideration to health care workers. Is that too much to ask to do for someone trying to save your life or the life of your loved one?" This podcast is the final episode in a four part series featuring graduates of the ReWork's Art of Selling Art business course. These students have spent the last six months ReWorking their businesses and applying the concepts they've learned in the course. As a part of each interview in the series, I ask each Art of Selling Art Graduate three questions: 1) How did principles in the Art of Selling Art course change your business or mindset? 2) If a Genie appeared, what is something you wish you could fix in your business? 3) And what advice or encouragement do you have for struggling photographers? Their answers will enlighten you and inspire you to ask tough questions of yourself about your own portrait business. Today I talk with Julie Collins. After 10 years doing portrait photography in Wisconsin, Julie found her sales averages were stuck, never quite getting past $2-$3K. Yet she knew they could be higher. With her kids quickly growing up and involved in team sports, she also wanted more flexibility to be there for her family. By applying what she learned in the Art of Selling Art, a business course for photographers, Julie was able to simplify her messaging, rework her words, overcome her mental barriers, and raise her prices in order to double her sales averages and for the first time, break the six-figure income barrier for her studio. As her business continues to grow, Julie shares the importance of simplifying EVERYTHING in order to maximize her time and talents for their best and highest use. Here's a glance at this episode… [01:47] An introduction to today's guest, Julie Collins. [03:04] The photography niches that Julie focuses on, and the business anniversary that is coming up for her. In today's conversation she and I get candid about the work of gun violence prevention groups and the constant backlash from the gun industry. We all believed that after The Columbine High School massacre in 1999, America would work to create laws that would at least protect children. But instead, in many states gun laws have become more lax. Granting accessibility to gun purchases by anyone at any time. Is a dangerous and damaging practice. We really could change that, however, if we wanted to.AlsoShoutout to Meredith Lawson Roll, 1st black woman elected to Reynoldsburg Oh. Seafood export leaders and Government officials are urgently seeking clarification from Chinese authorities after learning China has suspended exports from two major New Zealand seafood company processing sites. The Ministry for Primary Industries said China had suspended exports from a Sanford site in Havelock that processes mussels and a Sealord facility in Nelson that processes fin fish and fishmeal for animal feeds, the NZ Herald reports. The suspensions were due to issues around the interpretation of the World Health Organisation's Covid guidance and food safety management, said MPI deputy director-general policy and trade Julie Collins, in response to Herald inquiries. Both sites had been recently subject to live video audits by Chinese Customs, she said. Both had been complying under New Zealand's alert level 1 protocols.China is New Zealand's biggest seafood export market, closely followed by the US and Australia.Stephen Jacobi, Executive Director of the International Business Forum, told Heather du Plessis-Allan that he does think this is a sign we are in trouble with China."This is distressing for the companies involved and a worrying time. "But let's look at the facts; we just signed a FTA upgrade with China a few weeks ago, and that would tend to suggest the relationship is in good heart."Jacobi says this and the signing of the RCEP Agreement signals that the relationship is in a good state.LISTEN ABOVE
Book Of Ours Website: http://www.book-of-ours.com/blog/2019/08/21/book-of-ours-heading-into-a-new-direction/ Book of Ours is an art collaboration between JP & Julie Collins. We observe, interpret, comment and critique politics, culture and current affairs through a variety of creative media. We try to connect disparate ideas that stem from a confusing and overwhelming landscape in a rapidly changing culture of 24 hour news cycles and social media, and place them into a context that we hope provides new meaning in a familiar landscape. We use conceptual art strategies to produce: video, commentary, digital art, installations, site-specific installations, sculptures, drawings, text and sound art. We critique capitalism, the state and society through a leftist lens. Our focus is on the environment, psychology, creativity and collective liberation. We consider Book of Ours a platform for us to address what we feel needs to be said, from an artist’s point of view. My website: https://www.dwtruthwarrior.com/

Here we debut a new Podcast allowing us to leverage our nearly 50 years covering the airline industry. Presented for a more relaxed time of the week, these stories will be shared on Saturdays and be aimed at our abiding interest in the wider experience we all share, working and serving in the transportation industry. Our first Saturday Bulldog Edition here follows two, pioneering, smart and tough sisters in a place, that despite the passing years remains somewhat remote, while retaining what is left of the American spirit of natural living. Air cargo across Alaska is an absolute way of life, in a place where flying freight harkens back to the early, high adventure aviation days. Our contributing writers here, and, as it turns out, shippers as well, are Miki and Julie Collins who live in Lake Minchumina, Alaska. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/geoffrey-arend/support

Dr Julie Collins & Peter Lekkas presented on 18 September 2018 'Stories, Statistics and Sanatoria'. Pulmonary tuberculosis was described by writer John Bunyan in 1680 as “The Captain of all these men of death”. In South Australia tuberculosis mortality peaked in the 1890s and with a growing awareness of its contagiousness the state was one of the first places to declare it a notifiable disease in 1899. As such, detailed mortality records were kept recording the fate of those diagnosed as having the disease. The availability of historical health data has enabled a mapping of the spatial distribution across metropolitan Adelaide of cases of mortality due to pulmonary tuberculosis from 1902-7. This mapping has allowed the associations between the distribution of these cases and the historic social and urban geographies within which they arose to be explored. But is not only the statistics which speak of the situation. Some of the stories of those who suffered from the disease were uncovered, providing another layer of detail about their lives and living conditions. In this talk Dr Julie Collins explores the interdisciplinary research concerning the urban, social and cultural histories of tuberculosis in South Australia at the turn of the twentieth century. Research which raised many questions particularly in reference to those who died from tuberculosis: Who were they? Where did they live? What were their social, urban and housing conditions? In the crusade against tuberculosis, the therapeutic benefits of place were also promoted by medical professionals and architects alike. This talk will also look at places designed for such treatment - Kalyra and Nunyara at Belair, two of the earliest sanatoria purpose-designed for the open-air treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis in Australia. The Event, the Building, the Legacy The Jubilee Exhibition took place at a time when South Australia was experiencing the effects of the economic depression that would take hold internationally from about 1890. The Exhibition was 'a brave attempt' to pull the colony out of a depression by harnessing the power of positive thinking. Talking History presented, in April 2017, a panel inviting speakers to discuss Adelaide's Jubilee International Exhibition 1887-1888. The panel included: Assoc. Prof Christine Garnaut, Dr Julie Collins, Tom Gara, & Richard Venus. Each explored the topic from a different angle and area of expertise. This free public lecture was part of the History Trust of South Australia's Talking History series. For upcoming events visit: history.sa.gov.au/whats-on/events/
