Allegedly, Star Wars has lost 85% of its fan base, but that's only when comparing The Force Awakens box office to The Mandalorian and Grogu. Clever article title but to be fair, that's just not accurate. While Disney Star Wars has definitely alienated its core audience over the years, I don't think it's a fair comparison being made here. I do think, however, that more fans are being pushed away with bad stories by the day, than what Lucasfilm will admit to, at least under Kathleen Kennedy. Hopefully, Dave Filoni has a plan going forwards which we will discuss in the next video. Don't forget to subscribe for free to our newsletter, the top 10 ideas of the week, every Monday --------- Ed Catmull is the co-founder of Pixar and the former president of Disney Animation. He grew up in 1950s Utah wanting to animate for Disney. Convinced he couldn't draw well enough, he studied physics and computer science at the University of Utah instead, landing in one of the great talent incubators in computing history. In 1972, he animated his own left hand—one of the first 3D computer renderings ever made. Since childhood he had carried a single ambition: to make the first feature film animated entirely by computer. Reaching it took more than 20 years. George Lucas hired Catmull in 1979 to build a computer division at Lucasfilm. When Lucas needed cash, Steve Jobs bought that division in 1986 for $5 million and spun it out as Pixar. For years it sold imaging computers and lost money while Catmull and John Lasseter made short films to keep the dream alive. Jobs sank roughly $50 million of his own money into it. In 1995, Pixar released Toy Story, the first feature animated entirely by computer, and went public days later. Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, WALL-E, and Up followed. Disney bought Pixar in 2006 for $7.4 billion and put Catmull in charge of both studios; he revived a faltering Disney Animation with films like Frozen. Catmull cared about the conditions that let creative work survive its own fragility. Every original idea, he argues, starts out ugly and broken, and management exists to protect it long enough to get good. At Pixar that meant the Braintrust: a room where directors got blunt feedback with no authority attached and the conversation stayed on the problem, never on who was right. He laid it all out in Creativity, Inc. The Tim Conway Jr. Show Hour 2 (6.19) Conway kicks off the hour with the one and only Neil Saavedra in studio — now officially “Flaco” after dropping 27 pounds in two weeks following bariatric sleeve surgery. Neil breaks down the new world of sipping, portion control, and eating dime-sized bites while Conway reacts the only way Conway can. Then the crew gets into the average weight of men around the world, Neil accidentally absorbing World Cup fever, and Foosh taking “as the crow flies” way too seriously. From crows flying 20 to 30 miles per hour to measuring distance like a “sparrow fart,” the conversation goes full Conway. Later, the Boyle Heights cold warehouse fire reignites for a third time, while Neil reveals he is building a remote-controlled R2-D2 in his shop. That launches the crew into Star Wars talk, Disney buying Lucasfilm, the massive value of the franchise, C-3PO weight loss goals, Andor confusion, and why Popeyes is actually named after Gene Hackman’s character from The French Connection. The hour wraps with yet another Boyle Heights warehouse flare-up, because apparently this fire has more comebacks than a Star Wars sequel. Neil Saavedra, bariatric sleeve surgery, weight loss, World Cup, as the crow flies, Boyle Heights fire, warehouse fire, R2-D2, Star Wars, C-3PO, Disney Lucasfilm, Popeyes, Gene Hackman, Conway Show, funny podcast See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Karl Urban explains that fans who talk about shows and movies that didn't go the way they wanted shouldn't be called toxic (if they are just speaking normally), but rather should be seen as passionate fans who CARE about the media being created. I think this is such an important topic in today's era since everything is so politically charged to the point that you HAVE to like or dislike something in order to tow in line with the machine. It's really simple. If you like or dislike something primarily based on the story, character development and continuity with lore, it means you're a passionate nerd and the executives at Disney, Lucasfilm, Marvel, or any studio, should take what you say to heart and think deeper about it rather than discarding you as a toxic fan if you're just expressing your thoughts normally. In my day, it was more of an argument about if you understood Star Wars or not...Unlike today where your entire personality and quality as a human is decided whether you liked the Acolyte or not. Send us Fan MailA Star Wars movie is back in theaters, and we walk out with the most predictable outcome possible: all of us have opinions. Mandalorian And Grogu gives us a big-screen dose of Din Djarin, Grogu cuteness, and creature-driven chaos, but it also raises a real question about what a theatrical Star Wars film should feel like in 2026. Are we here for a simple, rewatchable adventure, or do we need heavier stakes and a clear franchise-shifting arc?We get into what worked for us, from the Anzellans (big Babu Frik energy) to the surprisingly fun lore bits and the craft that still makes this corner of the galaxy feel tangible. We debate whether Grogu shows real growth, how the story leans into fatherhood, and why some moments land harder when you frame them as a “son protecting his dad” story. We also talk pacing, action fatigue, and why the movie can feel like a stitched-together season run instead of a standalone event. Then we go deeper on the meta stuff Star Wars fans love to argue about: marketing, trailers that don't tease a hook, Disney Plus vs theatrical storytelling, and how the “Imperial warlords” thread may be tied to bigger plans like Rangers of the New Republic and the long-dreamed Heir to the Empire direction. Plus, we shout out Ludwig Göransson's score and the theater audio experience that genuinely elevates key scenes. If you've seen Mandalorian And Grogu, come hang with our takes, then tell us yours. Well *sigh* how did we get here ??? Always in motion is the future .......... but the question remains STILL how did we get here ???  We all remember how THIS started ..................... Lucasfilm officially announced three major live-action Star Wars films at the 2023 Star Wars Celebration, each tackling a different era of the franchise. The projects had included a Rey-centric film, a New Republic culmination directed by Dave Filoni, and an ancient origin story, which was to be directed by James Mangold    But then like a disturbance in the FORCE hahahahahahahahaha LOL LOL LOL LOL MORE like Bob Iger bending knee to his shareholder, pivoted away from the previously announced three films .............Disney and Lucasfilm officially announced The Mandalorian & Grogu movie on January 9, 2024. Directed by Jon Favreau, the film was released in theaters on May 22, 2026 *sigh* and in short we are here my friends   On the latest episode of Fandom Awakens Radio, "Action, Excitement, Smashing your Toys, Together A Star Wars seeks MORE then these things" LOL LOL LOL hahahahahahaha, your hosts David Senden and Kyle Wagner discuss in FULL Beskarian SPOILER-y goodness the Mandalorian & Grogu, does THIS have the feel of a STAR WARS movie ?? or is it simply what we ALL feared it would be, a glorified episode (or few episodes) of a TV show, I will give it THIS tho and YES this is serving as the next major chapter in the adventures of the beloved bounty hunter and his adopted son obviously, but end of the day ALL the Mandalorian & Grogu is its a apology letter for Season 3 of the Mandalorian which was ABSOLUTE dogwater   "HELP me STARFIGHTER ................. your my only HOPE !!!!!!!"   a BRAND NEW episode of Fandom Awakens Radio starts RIGHT NOW !!!!!!!!!

    317. When Do Fans Mourn the Death of Beloved Sci-Fi Stories?

This week we wanted to explore 1980s fantasy. But sometimes it's hard to recover nostalgia when present-day villains keep killing our favorite heroes. Last week, the BBC announced Doctor Who is dead. For now. Rest in peace, Time Lord. Also these days, Stargate fans are rallying to hold Amazon to its original promises of restoring that universe with original creators, and stop the ‘Zon from some “modern audience” reboot. For these and fans of other Star franchises, how do we mourn? Episode sponsors Twist of Time by Tricia Goyer and Nathan Goyer Realm Makers 2026 Conference & Expo Author Update from Author Media Descendant Publishing Mission update New at Lorehaven: new review, Maxine Justice: Public Offender Subscribe free to get updates and join the Lorehaven Guild Quotes and notes “June 3, 2026: Stargate cancelled, for the fourth and likely final time,” Joseph Mallozzi’s Weblog, June 3, 2026 “June 6, 2026: Do Fans Matter?”, Joseph Mallozzi’s Weblog, June 6, 2026 “Why Amazon canceling the new Stargate series is a mistake – and fans are trying to tell them,” Trent Moore at Static on the TV, June 6, 2026 “Former ‘Dr. Who’ showrunner Russell T. Davies says women and transvestites should be over-represented in creative writing until ‘things are balanced,’ even if it takes 100 years.” See this June 10 X.com post @BreitbartNews with video of original Davies interview. “Save Stargate with Martin Gero,” Change.org petition “Lego’s latest design research: what girls want,” Reena Jana at ZDNet.com, Dec. 19, 2011 1. Doctor Who destroyed by Russell T. Davies BBC, June 10: “BBC cancels Doctor Who Christmas special and Russell T Davies announces exit,” absolutely predictable end. Back in 2005, Davies revived Doctor Who serials on television. The series had “politically correct” moments, yet great writing. Writer Steven Moffat took over. The show got big. Then declined. In the late 2010s, political leftists demanded Doctor Who A lackluster showrunner took over. Fans rejected a gender-swap. Davies returned a political omnicause monster. He killed the Doctor. 2. Amazon rejects a fan-centered Stargate Variety, June 2: “‘Stargate' TV Series From Martin Gero Not Moving Forward at Amazon (EXCLUSIVE),” and fans were outraged. Original creators were on board, per the Nov. 2025 announcement. Now they join fans opposing this seeming ridiculous double-back. Amazon may want a “modern audience” show, not original fans. This is a universe more impossible than any sci-fi scenario. That's not how you grow a fanbase ever. True fans will grow it. Stephen finds this similar to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut. He's drawn in! 3. Star Trek/Wars still struggle to survive We saved this for last because fans everywhere rightly lament. Since our last episode on the topic, we've seen major updates. Mandalorian and Grogu bombed. Starfleet Academy was axed. Technically both franchises flounder ahead with illusory intent. Kathleen Kennedy is finally leaving Lucasfilm, owned by Disney. Star Trek showrunner Robert Kurtzman is likely next to go. Corporations aren't evil. But inhuman corporatism is parasitic. This “mind of metal and wheels” has ruined stories for Christians. But now the Christians are improving. These stories are decaying. We really can't pretend “popular culture” is just neutral ground. Activists do want to kill these stories and replace them with others. To speak truth, we should acknowledge the justifiable backlash. And then we mourn their deaths. But not as those without hope. After all, the results could be worse. What if the hijacking worked? Even non-Christian fans saw through the trick. And they said no. The “market” did its job, perhaps thanks to God's common grace. It's nearly like the Law rightly punishing violators. It is necessary. Let them suffer the results. Maybe repent. But retreat in disgrace. And if possible, may better storytellers rise up to restore worlds. Until then, let great story-worlds like Doctor Who rest in peace. Com station Top question for listeners How do you grieve the loss of fantastical stories you once loved? Next on Fantastical Truth One of the sillier myths in our culture is that “Most men don't read.” Sometimes this is a real trend. Other times it's wishful thinking because some creators don't want to make stories that celebrate boys and men. Still, we can look to fathers and mentors to train younger men, not just to love truth, but to love fantastical stories that honor truth. Just in time for the next stage of the Lightraiders tabletop game system, pilot and author James R. Hannibal returns to the studio to help fight dragons.

The Mandalorian & Grogu Movie, Star Wars Celebration 2027, and the Future of the DCAU Meta Description: Moose and Game God discuss the upcoming Mandalorian & Grogu movie, the announcement of Star Wars Celebration 2027, and why the DC Animated Universe continues to set the standard for superhero storytelling. The galaxy far, far away continues to expand, and Star Wars fans have plenty to be excited about. In Episode 515 of Podcast4SciFi, Moose and Game God dive into the latest news surrounding The Mandalorian & Grogu movie, discuss the significance of Star Wars Celebration 2027, and explore why the DC Animated Universe (DCAU) remains one of the most respected superhero franchises ever created. Whether you’re a fan of Star Wars, DC animation, or both, Episode 515 is packed with discussion, speculation, and plenty of geek culture goodness. The Mandalorian & Grogu: The Next Chapter Since their debut, Din Djarin and Grogu have become two of the most beloved characters in modern science fiction. What began as a streaming series phenomenon is now making the jump to the big screen with The Mandalorian & Grogu. During the episode, Moose and Game God discuss what this move means for Star Wars and whether the franchise is entering a new era of interconnected storytelling. Why Fans Are Excited The return of Din Djarin and Grogu in a theatrical adventure. The opportunity to experience Star Wars on the big screen again. Potential connections to future Star Wars projects and characters. The continued popularity of Grogu, one of the franchise’s most recognizable modern icons. The hosts also share their predictions about where the story could go and what surprises Lucasfilm may still have in store. Star Wars Celebration 2027: Looking Ahead One of the biggest pieces of Star Wars news is the announcement of Star Wars Celebration 2027. Celebration has become the premier event for Star Wars fans worldwide, bringing together creators, actors, collectors, cosplayers, and fans for major announcements and exclusive reveals. What Could Be Announced? While it’s still early, Moose and Game God discuss several possibilities: New Star Wars films and streaming projects. Updates on future Star Wars games. Expanded universe announcements. New collectibles, merchandise, and publishing initiatives. Surprises connected to The Mandalorian & Grogu. If history has taught Star Wars fans anything, it’s that Celebration often delivers unforgettable moments. Why the DCAU Still Matters The conversation then shifts from a galaxy far, far away to the world of superheroes. The DC Animated Universe (DCAU) continues to be regarded as one of the greatest examples of comic book storytelling. From classic animated series to newer projects, DC animation has consistently delivered compelling characters, emotional storytelling, and memorable performances. What Makes the DCAU Special? Strong character-driven stories. Faithful adaptations of iconic heroes and villains. Outstanding voice acting performances. Story arcs that appeal to both longtime fans and newcomers. Consistently high critical and audience ratings. The hosts discuss how modern animated projects continue to build on the foundation established by legendary series such as Batman, Superman, Justice League, and beyond. Star Wars vs. DC Animation: Different Strengths, Same Passion One of the most interesting discussions in Episode 515 centers around how these franchises approach storytelling. Star Wars excels at creating vast worlds filled with mythology, adventure, and wonder. Meanwhile, the DCAU focuses on character development and long-form storytelling that has influenced generations of fans. Rather than competing, both franchises showcase what makes science fiction and fantasy storytelling so enduring. Final Thoughts Episode 515 highlights why fans continue to be passionate about both Star Wars and DC animation. With The Mandalorian & Grogu on the horizon, Star Wars Celebration 2027 generating excitement, and the DCAU continuing to thrive, there’s never been a better time to be a sci-fi and superhero fan. But was this story worthy of a theatrical release, or would it have worked better as The Mandalorian Season 4? In this episode of SuperHero Homies, we break down The Mandalorian & Grogu with a spoiler-free review followed by a deep spoiler discussion covering the movie's biggest moments, surprises, theories, and its impact on the future of Star Wars. SPOILER WARNING The first half of our review is completely spoiler-free. Full Spoiler Discussion Begins at 1:11:00 In our spoiler-free review, we discuss the plot, characters, action sequences, pacing, visual effects, world-building, and musical score. We also tackle one of the biggest questions surrounding the film: Did The Mandalorian & Grogu actually need to be a movie, or would audiences have responded better if this story had remained a Disney+ series? Then we dive into full spoilers as we discuss major plot developments, character arcs, shocking moments, fan theories, Star Wars lore connections, favorite scenes, least favorite scenes, and whether this film represents a step forward or backward for Lucasfilm and the Star Wars franchise. The Mandalorian and Grogu has officially hit a record (according to online publications) for the biggest Star Wars box office drop off in its second week. With about 70% of a dip, The Mandalorian and Grogu doesn't look like it will make it's money back, at least from the theatrical release. Merchandise and Disney Plus surely will cover the cost over time, however this doesn't seem to be a box office success, unnfortunately. I blame the previous direction that Kathleen Kennedy steered Star Wars and Lucasfilm in which led us to right here, apathy. Let's see how they can fix this issue going forwards. I want Star Wars to always win, and in order to do that, we must have stories that are meaningful and make you want to go see these films. We need concrete planning, outlines and story development. Not just disjointed-ness after the brilliant Mandalorian Season 2 finale.
