Host Anthony Desiato revisits a pivotal chapter in his Superman fan journey: the early 2000s era of the Superman titles led by writers Jeph Loeb and Joe Kelly! In the first part of a new multi-episode event, Anthony and guest Josh Marowitz dig into the beginning of this run — which featured the return of the Daily Planet, an unlikely team-up with the son of Mongul, new villainess La Encantadora, and a futuristic upgrade for the city of Metropolis at the hands of Brainiac 13. They also discuss how this run came to be, the creative teams we ALMOST had instead, and what it was like to experience these issues in real time at the turn of the millennium. This episode covers:SUPERMAN #151-154 by Jeph Loeb, Mike McKone, & Ed McGuinnessADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN #573-576 by Stuart Immonen & Mark MillarSUPERMAN: THE MAN OF STEEL #95-98 by Mark Schultz & Doug MahnkeACTION COMICS #760-763 by Joe Kelly & German GarciaSUPERMAN: Y2K #1 by Joe Kelly & Butch Guice Support the show and receive exclusive podcast content at Patreon.com/AnthonyDesiato, including the spinoff podcasts BEYOND METROPOLIS and DIGGING FOR JUSTICE!Visit BCW Supplies and use promo code FSP to save 10% on your next order of comics supplies. Host Anthony Desiato presents another double feature as the "All-Star Superboy" event draws to an epic conclusion! First, Anthony and guest Scott Honig dig into Geoff Johns' legendary run on TEEN TITANS with artist Mike McKone and others — which revealed that half of Superboy's DNA came from Lex Luthor, introduced the now-iconic t-shirt & jeans look, and established the Conner Kent civilian identity.THEN! Anthony welcomes first-time guest Adam Daltorio to dig into the post-resurrection, pre-New 52 Conner stories "The Boy of Steel" (from ADVENTURE COMICS by Geoff Johns & Francis Manapul) and "Smallville Attacks" (from the 2010-2011 SUPERBOY series by Jeff Lemire & Pier Gallo). The episode also addresses Conner's 2019 return to continuity, current status quo, and adaptations on SMALLVILLE, YOUNG JUSTICE, and TITANS.This marks the conclusion of the podcast's Conner Kent coverage. For this episode, Comic Talkers Mari and Brandon continue on with Shazam! Month as they take on their second book club of the month. This time, they discuss the story “JLA: World Without Grown-Ups.” Written by Todd Dezago with art by Mike Mckone and Humberto Ramos, this follows the Young Justice as they are faced with a challenge they have never had to face before, A WORLD WITHOUT GROWN-UPS. We follow Robin (Tim Drake), Superboy, and Impulse (Bart Allen) as they try to find out how to return things back to normal before it is too late. In order to do this though, they will need the help from someone who is not only a child, but has the ability of turning into a super-powered adult, that being Billy Batson. Will these young heroes come up victorious? And how will Billy realize that he plays a bigger part in this story than he realizes? Tune in to find out. We did it! 100 Episodes! And we're celebrating by smashing headfirst into the greatest fight to nearly tear the Fantastic Four apart - CIVIL WAR! Iron Man and Captain America are punching each other in the streets as Reed Richards and Sue Richards fall on opposite sides of the Superhuman Registration Act. With murderous Thor clones and Negative Zone prisons between them, how can this happily married couple ever hope to remain together? And, frankly, should they? Our third episode exploring Reed and Sue as a couple hits DEFCON-4. To help us sort through the catastrophe, we turn to Gretchen Rubin and her self-help book, The Four Tendencies. Who's an Upholder? Who's an Obliger? Can they keep it together when their values fly in the face of each other? We get into it. As an added 100 Episode Bonus, this week, we're also including a segment from our radical conversation with writers Josh Stafford and Howard Wong discussing their new kinda-sorta zombie series, Damned, Cursed Children. We frickin love this comic and we want all of you to love it too. Please seek it out via Source Point Press. Good evening...forever! In this episode, Chris (@AceComics) and Reggie (@reggiereggie) brace themselves against the freezing temperatures of DC Comics' 1996 crossover event Final Night, paying special attention to the crossover Parallax: Emerald Night #1 by Ron Marz and Mike McKone! After some creator bios, they detail the events leading up to Final Night, and then break down three issues of the event--including brief recaps of the crossover issues! In the second half, they delve deeply into Parallax: Emerald Night #1 and then close out with Final Night #4 and even an epilogue as presented in Green Lantern #81 that came out the following month. This series will leave you feeling chilled to the bone! But its humanity will warm your heart.
Welcome back you amazing people and get ready for the last half of one of the best, and most underrated, crossover events of the 1990's, The Final Night! In fact, this story is so awesome, I'm not even covering a Green Lantern comic this time out. But that doesn't mean that Kyle Rayner is absent from the story, as he and the rest of Earth's heroes desparately try to save the planet from the Sun Eater. However, the consequences are dire as The Man of Steel is all but powerless, Kyle is out of the picture, and even the genius of Brainiac and Luthor (well, smug arrogance of Luthor) can't come up with a solution. In the end, the Earth's fate rests in the hands of a fallen hero who still might not be up to the task. It is truly an epic story that ends with a renewal of heroism that rivals the sacrifices made by others in the Crisis on Infinite Earths. And because of the scope of this story, as well as it's ties to a similar story with the Legion of Superheroes, I have brought along podcaster extraordinaire J. David Weter (host of PADSmash: An Incredible Hulk Podcast and co-host of Superman in the Bronze Age) to fill you in on just who the heck this Ferro kid is and how he relates to the actual Ferro Lad. It's like a Michael Bay/Roland Emmerich movie in comics form, except it isn't an assault on your intelligence. So unless you want to end up like the Cyborg, I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show and get to listening!Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks! Seattle loves Emerald City Comicon as Saturday was just swamped with convention goers. In this episode we talk a bit about the show, interview some listeners and talk with artist and our convention table neighbor Mike McKone! (41:25)
The next couple Fan Film Podcasts will have Fanboy Will's experiences, interviews, and panels from a couple conventions he went to this past October in New York City. I'm sure all you intune comic book fans know the ones I speak of. They're, of the course, the Wizard Big Apple Comic Con and the New York Comic Con at Jacob K. Javits Center. We start off with the Wizard Con where Will speaks with artist Mike McKone. The second half of the show we bring you the original Batman Television Show Panel with guests Adam West and Bruce Ward.
