There has been no bigger story in Portland sports this year than Damian Lillard's stunning return to the Trail Blazers less than two years after being traded to the Milwaukee Bucks. Though out for the next year with a torn Achilles tendon, Lillard's homecoming raises all sorts of questions about the trajectory of the franchise with an otherwise young roster. Among them, will Lillard be the same player he was before the injury? And given the style of play the team has adopted under coach Chauncey Billups, is there even room for him to be the same player? These questions and many more are discussed on this week's episode of the Oregonian Sports Podcast by hosts Bill Oram and Brenna Greene. Also discussed on this week's episode: • A programming update and a very fond farewell • What Lillard's presence could and should mean for Scoot Henderson • Can Lillard adjust his style of play and will a year of watching help? • A recap of the Portland Fire's brand launch and rollout event at Moda Center Learn more about your ad choices. This week… Kärel and Max discuss and debate the most important issues facing our world; work beers, NFL conspiracies, The Miz Kid, used canoes, and bar top designs. Andy jumped on to discuss all the breaking news in the sports world. He broke down the Milwaukee Bucks ending Dame time and signing Myles Turner and the Brewers resurgence. The fellas dug into Jacob Misiorowski's background and found out how the Brewers acquired the young phenom. Then it was onto the NFL and its conspiracies. Max had quite the take on the Deshaun Watson downfall… I'll have whatever Max's smoking, he's out of his mind. The NFL is a fine upstanding organization and to question the shield is ludicrous! Max's views do not reflect the views of HUA or its sponsors. Shout out Heaven's Piss. Next Kärel battled the Dictionary and it's unanimous, he's getting smarter! Finally they ended things discussing their challenge. They've got a vision for the new bar top, now it comes down to execution and flattening some slabs! But before any of the nonsense, they saved the best for first, with the Beer of the Week! During the BOW the fellas rate and review a new beer. They discuss the history of the brewery and examine what's in the beer they're drinking. Then, they break down the beer by its drinkability, the probability they'd drink it again, its chugability, and the attractability of the can. Find out if Oskar Blues Brewery's Dale's Light Lager passed the HUA test.Beer of the Week: 05:45 - 59:20Sports World News: 01:03:20 - 02:38:00Kärel v.s. It's a Wisconsin road trip this week for a sit down with Jordan Treske, author of "Building the Milwaukee Bucks: Kareem Abdul‑Jabbar, Oscar Robertson and the Rapid Rise of an NBA Franchise," to explore one of the most astonishing turnarounds in modern American pro sports history. Treske walks us through how Milwaukee rebounded from the loss of the MLB Braves to become an NBA basketball powerhouse in just three seasons — thanks to savvy ownership, an historic draft coin flip, and the ultimate pairing of two all-time greats: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (née Lew Alcindor) and Oscar Robertson. We'll also unpack the racial and cultural tensions of the era, the ABA bidding war, and the community's unique investment in the team. Whether you're a Bucks fan or a basketball history buff, this conversation offers fresh insight into how a franchise — and a city — found its "big league" identity through the game.
