Kevin and Thom today opened with a recap of Thom's "Cigars & Curveballs" fundraiser last night. The boys talked about the two big NFL League Meeting votes scheduled for tomorrow. First, will the Tush Push be outlawed along with other pushes and pulls? And...will the league change the playoff format and seed based on record? Plenty of discussion on both along with Kevin's idea to play division opponents three times a year instead of twice when the league moves to an 18-game schedule. Juan Soto, RG3/Ryan Clark, the Sacramento Athletics, two Wizards make the NBA "All Rookie" team, and the NBA Conference Finals all part of the show as well.  Goldbelly.com, code sheehan, for free shipping and 20% off your first order of food from around the US.  Go To WindowNation.com. On Episode 161 of the Ballislife In The Paint Show, hosts Ronnie Flores, Ani Umana and Chelsea Hopkins go hard on the thrilling 2023 Ballislife All-American Game and the rapidly changing fortunes of teams in the NBA playoffs, and those clubs that didn't make it. The 10th annual Ballislife All-American Game was played on May 6 at Cerritos College in SoCal and went into overtime as Team Future downed Team Elite in overtime, 157-154, behind the play of Kentucky-bound Justin Edwards (27 pts, 5 rbs), Washington-bound Wesley Yates III (26 pts) and the Michigan St.-bound duo of Coen Carr (23 pts, 18 rbs) and Jeremy Fears (11 pts, 9 asts, 2 stls). Team Elite was led by Marcus Adams, who broke the event scoring record with 44 points (8-14 3-pointers, 4 rbs, 5 asts) and by Duke-bound Jared McCain and Boise St-bound Andrew Meadow, who both finished with 22 points. In his return from the COVID-19-related injured list, Giolito labored early, needing 54 pitches to complete the first two innings, allowing four hits and two walks. After Witt’s leadoff homer in the third, Giolito struck out six of the next seven batters and permitted only a pair of singles before being lifted after five innings. Pirates 3, Cubs 2 – Chicago-born rookie Suwinski homers, lifts Pirates over Cubs Rookie Jack Suwinski, who attended high school 20 minutes from Wrigley Field, hit a tiebreaking home run and the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Cubs 3-2, ending Chicago’s four-game winning streak. Suwinski made his major league debut this season and began the day hitting .183 with two homers. With the score 2-all, the 23-year-old outfielder from Taft High School opened the fifth inning with a drive off Drew Smyly that barely cleared the center field wall. Michael Chavis’ single in the third snapped the Pirates’ scoreless streak of 20 innings. They scored in the eighth inning of Sunday’s 1-0 win over the Reds despite being no-hit by Hunter Greene and Art Warren, then lost 9-0 and 7-0 earlier this week at Wrigley Field. The Sky (2-2) had the ball with 9.1 seconds left, but Allie Quigley misfired on a 22-footer on the game’s final shot. Azura Stevens led Chicago with 18 points. Parker finished with 11 points and nine rebounds. NCAAWBKB – Central Michigan’s top scorer Molly Davis transfers to Iowa All-Mid-American Conference first-team pick Molly Davis of Central Michigan is transferring to Iowa. That word from Hawkeyes coach Lisa Bluder. The 5-foot-7 guard from Midland, Michigan, was a three-year starter for the Chippewas and led the team last season with 18.6 points and 4.7 assists per game. She has scored at least 10 points in 67 games, including a career-high 33 points against Ohio in the 2021 MAC Tournament semifinals. Davis will have two season of eligibility because of the COVID-19 bonus year. NCAAFB – Raise makes Ohio State’s Day one of highest-paid coaches Ohio State plans to hike Ryan Day’s annual salary to $9.5 million as part of a two-year contract extension that will put him among the nation’s highest-paid college football coaches. Day’s raise makes him the latest coach to crack $9 million per year, putting him in company with Alabama’s Nick Saban and Clemson’s Dabo Swinney and in line with recent megadeals given to Michigan State’s Mel Tucker and LSU’s Brian Kelly. In three seasons, Day has led the Buckeyes to a 34-4 record, including 23-1 in the Big Ten. NCAAFB – Saban calls out Texas A&M for using NIL deals to buy players Alabama coach Nick Saban called out Texas A&M, saying the school was “buying” players with name, image and likeness deals. The Aggies signed the top recruiting class in the country earlier this year. While speaking at an event in Birmingham, Alabama, Saban also mention Jackson State and Miami as schools that have used NIL deals to lure players. Jackson State coach Deion Sanders responded by calling Saban’s comments about a $1 million NIL deal for a highly touted recruit a lie. Saban said Alabama players earned more than $3 million from sponsorship and endorsement deals “the right way.” CFL – CFL, players’ union make tentative labor deal, ending strike The Canadian Football League and its players’ union have reached a tentative agreement on a new labor contract, ending the second strike in CFL history. The league made the announcement Wednesday night. The contract must be ratified by both the CFL board of governors and the CFL Players’ Association. The new collective bargaining agreement comes four days after players with seven of the league’s nine teams did not show up for the start of training camp. Players with the two remaining teams would have been eligible to walk off the job Thursday. Soccer – US Soccer equalizes pay in milestone with women, men The U.S. Soccer Federation has reached milestone agreements to pay its men’s and women’s teams equally. That makes the American national governing body the first in the sport to promise both sexes completely matching compensation. The federation has announced separate collective bargaining agreements through 2028 with the unions for both national teams. The move ends years of often acrimonious negotiations. One of the main sticking points was World Cup prize money. The unions agreed to pool FIFA’s payments for the men’s World Cup this year and next year’s Women’s World Cup. It will also pool the 2026 and 2027 tournaments. MLB – Major League Baseball Last Night Tampa Bay Rays 6, Detroit Tigers 1 Kansas City Royals 6, Chicago White Sox 2 Pittsburgh Pirates 3, Chicago Cubs 2 Rays 6, Tigers 1 – Paredes homers twice, Rodriguez leaves early, Rays win 6-1 Isaac Paredes homered twice against his former teammates to double his career big league total, helping the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Detroit Tigers 6-1 on an afternon Eduardo Rodriguez left in the first inning and headed to the injured list. Rodriguez lasted just one out and averaged 91.9 mph for his fastball, 2.4 mph below his season average, and left the mound with Tigers head athletic trainer Doug Teter. Drew Rasmussen allowed four hits in five shutout innings with seven strikeouts and no walks, improving to 4-0 with a 1.01 ERA in his last five starts. Royals 6, White Sox 2 – Witt homers off Giolito, Melendez connects as KC tops Chisox Bobby Witt Jr. and MJ Melendez homered and fellow rookie Emmanuel Rivera hit a go-ahead triple to lead the Kansas City Royals over the Chicago White Sox 6-2. Witt, Melendez and Rivera each had two hits. Rivera’s sinking liner escaped a diving Adam Engel for a triple that drove in Melendez with the tiebreaking run in the sixth. WNBA – Women’s National Basketball Association Last Night Seattle Storm 74, Chicago Sky 71                 Storm 74, Sky 71 – Magbegor, Stewart power Storm to 74-71 win over Sky Ezi Magbegor scored 21 points, Breanna Stewart added 13 and the Seattle Storm beat the Chicago Sky 74-71. Magbegor added six rebounds and four assists, and Stewart had four steals for the Storm (2-3). Seattle led 74-62 after Gabby Williams’ 3-pointer with 2:28 remaining. Candace Parker scored the final seven points in a 9-0 Chicago run to close out the game. March Madness is here and the NCAA college basketball tournament is upon us. Hope you have your brackets filled out. Clark Kellogg will be on our TVs for the next few weeks so we thought this was a great time to re-release one of our more popular episodes. This is a replay of episode #149. Hope you enjoy!   Clark Kellogg is one of the most respected voices covering college basketball today. The CBS Sports analyst was once a top college basketball player at Ohio State University, where he earned All-Big Ten Conference honors and won the Big Ten Most Valuable Player award in 1982. After his junior year at Ohio State, he declared for the 1992 NBA draft and was selected eighth overall in the first round by the Indiana Pacers, and named to the NBA All-Rookie first team in 1983 after averaging 20.1 points and 10.6 rebounds. But his NBA career was cut short after just four seasons due to knee injuries, and he was forced to retire in 1986 at the age of 25. Clark began his broadcasting journey with ESPN in 1990, and in 1993 he moved to CBS Sports, where he has worked since. In March 2010, Kellogg played a game of H.O.R.S.E. against U.S. President Barack Obama. The game, called “P.O.T.U.S.” for the occasion, was won by Obama. Guest: Jerry Stackhouse, Vanderbilt University Head CoachIn this week's coaching conversation, Vanderbilt University head coach Jerry Stackhouse joins the podcast to defense, grading, his NBA influence, and connecting ideas for players. Entering his third season with the Commodores, Jerry Stackhouse has made a noticeable impact in turning around the Vanderbilt program. In his first season, two Commodores were selected in the NBA Draft, including lottery pick Aaron Nesmith who was chosen 14th overall by the Boston Celtics, and junior guard Saben Lee who was picked 37th overall by the Detroit Pistons. Stackhouse’s creative offensive sets enabled Nesmith to lead the nation in 3-point field goals made and 3-point field goal percentage (before a foot injury sidelined him after 14 games) and propelled Lee to three 30-point games and a second-team All-SEC selection in 2019-20. Most recently, Scotty Pippen Jr. earned All-SEC first-team honors and set the school scoring record for a sophomore in 2020-21. He finished second in the SEC in scoring (20.8 points per game) and assists (4.9), while sophomore forward Dylan Disu led the SEC in rebounding (9.2) and was named the conference’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Prior to Vanderbilt, Stackhouse served as an assistant coach with the Memphis Grizzlies which was preceded by two seasons as head coach of the NBA G League’s Raptors 905. As head coach of Raptors 905, Stackhouse earned NBA G League Coach of the Year honors after he steered the team to a 39-11 regular-season record and 6-1 playoff record in 2016-17, en route to the team’s first NBA G League championship. The following season, Stackhouse led the Raptors 905 to a 31-19 regular-season record and a second straight appearance in the NBA G League Finals. Prior to taking the head coaching job in the G League, Stackhouse was an assistant coach for the Toronto Raptors during the 2015-16 season. In his 18-year NBA career, Jerry Stackhouse appeared in 970 games (564 starts) for eight teams and averaged 16.9 points, 3.3 assists, 3.2 rebounds, and 31.2 minutes. A two-time All-Star with the Detroit Pistons (2000, 2001), Stackhouse posted career highs of 29.8 points (second in the NBA) during the 2000-01 season, leading the league in total points and free throws made. He reached the 2006 NBA Finals as a member of the Dallas Mavericks. After playing for legendary head coach Dean Smith and earning Sports Illustrated Player of the Year, All-America first team, and All-ACC honors at North Carolina, Stackhouse was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers with the third overall pick in the 1995 NBA Draft. He was named to the 1995-96 NBA All-Rookie first team after leading all first-year players in scoring (19.8 points). In 2011, Stackhouse launched Stackhouse Elite, an AAU program based in Atlanta, Georgia. The program captured numerous titles in the 15U, 16U, and 17U divisions.Breakdown1:00 - Shaping His Philosophy4:00 - Emphasis on Defense6:00 - Balance of Offense and Defense8:00 - Defensive Mechanism12:00 - Scouting Report Specifics18:00 - Close-Outs24:00 - Competitive Cauldron28:00 - Freeing Players33:00 - Coaching Style36:00 - Grading On and Off38:00 - Corner Threes41:00 - Ball Screens45:00 - Teaching on Weak Side47:00 - Early Tag Concept49:00 - Blocking Charge53:00 - Smartest Generation55:00 - ConclusionJerry Stackhouse’ Bio:Website: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerry_StackhouseTwitter: https://twitter.com/jerrystackhouseBasketball ImmersionWebsite: http://basketballimmersion.com/Twitter: https://twitter.com/bballimmersion?lang=enYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/basketballimmersionFacebook: https://facebook.com/basketballimmersionBetOnline Website:Website: www.betonline.agBest in the West Video SeriesBest in the West Website: http://bestinthewestclinic.com/

In today’s episode, we discuss: Playing basketball against President Obama What makes up a great leader Being the parent of athletes Working with Charles Barkley during NCAA Tournament How players can use their platform ... and so much more!!!   Resources, Books, and Links  Twitter: @ClarkKelloggCBS Instagram: @cloggcbs Charitable Organizations mentioned ... The end we thought was nigh, yet the desert ravages on, unyielding, growing, threatening to lay waste to all joy that is or ever was or ever will be in this world. Just as the last strands of wayward hope are cast aside, a voice comes down from the heavens, whispering, ever so slightly, the name spoken in prophecies in far off lands, that our children and our children's children will not let pass their lips without beating their chests in eternal relief, the name of the one who shall save us: J.R. Smith. This week, Conor, Francis, and Grant hope Patrick Mahomes has a good portfolio manager (6:50); discuss the race to get swept in the West after the NBA released its schedule (14:20); marvel at the NBA's suspiciously DJ Khaled-esque approach to combating the global epidemic (26:10); and select their NBA All-Rookie teams, including a franchise building debate (I use that term loosely) surrounding Ja Morant and Zion Williamson (32:59). --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

The Boston Celtics look to bounce back in Game 5 at home against the Cavaliers tomorrow. It looks as if they will do so with Shane Larkin still on the bench. It has been reported that he could be back this series, just not in Game 5.  Jayson Tatum earns high praise, with a small slap in the face too. Tatum was selected to the All-Rookie First Team, but he was one vote away from being a unanimous selection, which Brad Stevens feels he rightfully deserves, alongside unanimous picks Ben Simmons and Donovan Mitchell.
