Biden's policy wins have secured vast amounts of funding for the energy transition, and that money is just beginning to flow, with new programs becoming available to everyday Americans. With hundreds of billions tagged for chip and battery plants, climate smart agriculture, rail, modernizing the electric grid, and tax incentives for citizens to run their homes and cars on electricity, ensuring these dollars and programs have real impact is now the name of the game. White House National Climate Advisor Ali Zaidi plays a leading role in coordinating the implementation of the biggest investments in clean energy the U.S. has ever made. This week he joins us to discuss the complicated maze of industrial policy intended to create a more just economy while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Description: In a World…Where some will do anything to forward their agenda, one group or terrorist vegans will slap down the white house in an attempt to veganize the world. Only one man, the President of the United States himself, can stop the terrorists, rescue the hostages and prevent the White House from being completely slapped! This episode features the improv games Prologue in a Minute, Last Letter, First Letter, Scene No Letter, Best of Times, Worst of Times, Cutting Room. About This Episode In this episode, we pay homage to a truly ridiculous genre: White House Action movies! The ones where the president's abode (or plane) is under attack, and it is up to the president to jump into action hero mode and stop the bad guys. These movies are usually not very good but also usually very entertaining. We certainly had a lot of fun performing it. Have you ever set off in a direction, not knowing exactly where you’d end up, but knowing you had to get there… wherever “there” was … ? If that doesn’t sound too crazy, if perhaps you can relate, then you’ll understand why I had to create this podcast. I have never even come close to being a racist. Even as a little girl, I fought my father’s bigotry and careless racial slanders. Regrettably, it took George Floyd’s murder to wake me up to the painful fact, one I’ve rejected for decades, that I am part of the racism problem in America. I, a kind, generous, thoughtful.... white woman have been an enabler of the injustices Black people have endured for centuries, and I hate it. I hate my part in it, and I so much want to do more than hate it. I want and need to see and understand the facts of how racism has intentionally, with extraordinary skills of manipulation, been designed to advantage whites and deeply disadvantage Blacks in America - without it being obvious! I won’t be lecturing you, especially because I have so much to learn. This podcast is going to be conversational. The majority of guests will be people of color, and our conversations will lean towards difficult topics, which might, or will probably cause discomfort, but I’m positive it’ll all be worth it … positive. If you are a white person who wants to do even more than engage in protests, who wants to pull back the curtain on all the subtle and not-so-subtle ways in which you and I have been manipulated into enabling structural racism in America, listen on, please, because we need to be learning together. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/jeannine-white/message

Retreat on Tara, "Mother of all Buddhas," with instructions on how to practice a short, daily practice, "The Sadhana of the Noble White Tara." White Tara is practiced to increase one's own or another person's health, wisdom, and merit; especially the long life of one's teacher and lineage masters. Although known for these benefits, White Tara's seed syllable TAM may also be practiced to recognize the nature of mind and all phenomena as birthless; as the simplicity and unconditioned quality of the dharmakaya. Because Tara is unborn, she is beyond all conditions and empty in essence; yet her manifestation and appearance is blissful. Meditating on Tara in this way allows one to realize the ultimate, unborn and empty nature of one's mind. This is the awakened essence of all the Taras - white, green, red, or another color. Many great masters, such as Nagarjuna and Atisha, have realized enlightenment by relying on Tara.Retreat on Tara, "Mother of all Buddhas," with instructions on how to practice a short, daily practice, "The Sadhana of the Noble White Tara." Welcome back to ParaScience - a glimpse into a world unknown at the intersection of the supernatural and the quantifiable. You’ve already met two of our principal characters Agent Graham McAndrews and Saint Garcia Flores. The two of them have stumbled into a disappearance case that may have a slight paranormal twinge to it. And while they haven’t solved any mysteries in the Swaying Birch Retirement Community, the secrets are about to start unraveling themselves.ParaScience is Game Mastered by the disembodied mind of Ben Hamlin with Ezra Kaye as Man in Black Alister McAndrews, Matty Trumbo-Gomes as agnostic exorcist Saint Garcia Flores and Nikki Boylan as conspiracy theorist Jules Ortiz! At the intersection of the supernatural and quantifiable, three wayward souls find themselves facing a world of the unknown and unexplained. Who among us can navigate the flickering boundaries between the paranormal and the scientific and questionable grey area in between? It is autumn and it feels like it always has been. The leaves have fallen and have been falling for awhile. The air feels crisp enough that you can break it apart with your breath. It feels as though time is suspended for this world. But time is on nobody’s side here in South East Washington. There is a smell of organic rot in the air as a lone minivan pulls into a small parking lot outside the Swaying Birch Retirement Community - three miles outside of Walla Walla Washington.ParaScience is Game Mastered by the disembodied mind of Ben Hamlin with Ezra Kaye as Man in Black Alister McAndrews, Matty Trumbo-Gomes as agnostic exorcist Saint Garcia Flores and Nikki Boylan as conspiracy theorist Jules Ortiz! The Context of White Supremacy hosts our 11th study session on James Loewen's acclaimed text, Sundown Towns: A Hidden Dimension of American Racism. Loewen, a Suspected Race Soldier, has authored many bestsellers and critically acclaimed history books that use the word "Racism." In addition to Sundown Towns, Loewen's Lies My Teachers Told Me, also examines the ways Whites intentionally conceal their history of brutalizing black people. Mr. Loewen might be aware that we're reading his book with suspicion. Last week's installment provided a number of profound illustrations that corroborate Neely Fuller Jr.'s conclusion that, "White people can't be ignorant about Racism." Loewen cites several Whites who got in serious trouble with other White people for violating the White Supremacist code. One White man was allegedly lynched for helping a black person. #RacismIsSlavery INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 605.313.5164 CODE 564943#

The harrowing true story of Robbie Tolan, a young black man who was shot in the chest by a white police officer . . . in his own driveway. NO JUSTICE is the harrowing story of Robbie Tolan, who early on one New Year's Eve morning, found himself being rushed to the hospital. A white police officer had shot him in the chest after mistakenly accusing him of stealing his own car...while in his own driveway. In a journey that took nearly a decade, Tolan and his family saw his case go before the United States Supreme Court in a groundbreaking decision, while Tolan struggled with how to put his life back together. Holding him together through this journey was the strength of his mother and father, his faith in God, and an impenetrable belief that he deserved justice like any other American who'd been wronged. NO JUSTICE is the story about what happened after the cameras and social media protests went away. Robbie Tolan was left with the physical and mental devastation from having his body violated by someone who was supposed to serve and protect him. His story reminds us that police brutality is not a theoretical talking point in a larger nationwide argument. This story is about Robbie Tolan courageously picking up the pieces of his life, even as he fights for justice for all.

Fifty years ago, a mainstream group of high-profile Americans declared the following: "Our nation is moving toward two societies, one black, one white — separate and unequal. Reaction to last summer’s disorders has quickened the movement and deepened the division. Discrimination and segregation have long permeated much of American life; they now threaten the future of every American. This deepening racial division is not inevitable. The movement apart can be reversed. Choice is still possible. Our principal task is to define that choice and to press for a national resolution." The Kerner Commission, established by President Johnson, embodied left liberalism at its most bold and idealistic. But that vision of radical reform was eviscerated by the American war on Vietnam, the rise of neoliberalism and the modern conservative movement, and liberal triangulation that reached its apotheosis under Bill Clinton. Dan talks to Vanessa A. Bee, a consumer protection lawyer in D.C. and a social media editor for Current Affairs magazine, about her New York magazine essay on the subject: nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2018/03/how-we-can-get-a-more-equal-union.html. This week I speak with anti-diet dietitian Fumi Somehara, who is all fired up about the thin ideal and how it impacts on the world of ballet. Fumi is passionate about all things dance, and her perspective on how the thin ideal came to dominate the ballet world is fascinating. She talks about Ballanchine, a very famous choreographer from the mid 19th century, who had an obvious preference for very thin dancers. Ballanchine also happened to be brilliant, and wildly popular, so much so that his body preferences became the only acceptable body type in classical ballet. Join us for an absolutely fascinating chat about a whole range of ideas: about how ballet is traditionally not just sexist, but classist and racist, how a few brave females have pushed back against these systems of oppression within ballet world, and how Fumi thinks that maybe, just maybe, the world of dance might eventually force the outside world to embrace body diversity!

"Oakhurst Presbyterian Church is unremarkable on the outside, but the congregation on the inside is quite remarkable. People from the most divergent backgrounds - middle class professionals, blue-collar and pink-collar workers, welfare recipients, old, young, and very young, black, white, Asian, gay and straight. All seem to feel comfortable there and speak their minds." Ted Clark, All Things Considered Oakhurst Presbyterian Church, in Decatur Georgia, celebrated its 90th birthday in September. The church, led by husband-wife team Nibs Stroupe and Caroline Leach, is famous for its depictions of both a black and a white Jesus, and numerous national publications, including Time magazine, The New York Times and The Christian Science Monitor, have reported on the dedication of the church and its leaders to racial diversity. My guest was Rev. Nibs Stroupe. We discussed the 90th Anniversary of Oakurst Presbyterian Church, the decision that was made in the late 1980s to repaint one of the stained glass images of Jesus from white to black, the committment of the church congregation to diversity and inclusiveness, and the book, "O Lord, Hold Our Hands: How a Church Thrives in a Multicultural World," which Rev. Stroupe co-wrote with his wife. This program origianally aired on 10/24/11. Contact information: www.oakhurstpresbyterian.org or 404-378-6284
Landor read by Classic Poetry Aloud: http://www.classicpoetryaloud.com/ Giving voice to the poetry of the past. --------------------------------------------- The One White Hair by Walter Savage Landor (1775 – 1864) The wisest of the wise Listen to pretty lies And love to hear'em told. Doubt not that Solomon Listened to many a one, - Some in his youth, and more when he grew old. I never was among The choir of Wisdom's song, But pretty lies loved I As much as any king, When youth was on the wing, And (must it then be told?) when youth had quite gone by. Alas! and I have not The pleasant hour forgot When one pert lady said, "O Walter! I am quite Bewildered with affright! I see (sit quiet now) a white hair on your head!" Another more benign Snipped it away from mine, And in her own dark hair Pretended it was found … She leaped, and twirled it round … Fair as she was, she never was so fair!
