Danny Trejo holds the record for most on-screen deaths by an actor. His go-to role is the bad guy – the baddest guy. The guy you do not mess with. And for the first 25 years of his life, he was that guy for real. He led a life of violence and drugs that landed him in just about every hardcore prison in California, including Folsom and San Quentin. On the inside, he ran the gym, the drugs, and protection rackets. And then one day, the tables turned and Danny Trejo was the one who needed protection. After the dust settled on a bloody prison riot, Trejo found himself staring down the death penalty. The Adventures of Superman radio serial, which aired from 1940 to 1951, featured the DC Comics character Superman.Created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, Superman first appeared in Action Comics #1 in 1938. The following year, the newspaper comic strip began and four audition radio programs were prepared to sell Superman as a radio series. Superman was first heard on the radio less than two years after the comic book appearance, with Bud Collyer in the title role. The juvenile adventure radio serial, sponsored by Kellogg's Pep, was a huge success during World War II and the post-war years, with many listeners following the quest for "truth and justice" in the daily radio broadcasts, the comic book stories and the newspaper comic strip. Airing in the late afternoon, the radio serial engaged its young after-school audience with its exciting and distinctive opening, which changed slightly as the series progressed. In the first few episodes, Superman's home planet of Krypton is located on the far side of the sun, as opposed to a distant star system as it is in most stories. During the journey to Earth, baby Kal-El grows into an adult and emerges fully grown from his ship after it lands on Earth. He is never adopted by Jonathan and Martha Kent and immediately begins his superhero career. This was eventually retconned in later episodes to match the narrative of the comic books. The syndicated series, titled simply Superman, first aired via pre-recorded transcription disks over 11 stations beginning on February 12, 1940, with an origin story, "The Baby from Krypton". The series aired in 15-minute episodes three times a week until May 9, 1941, with the conclusion of the "Nitrate Shipment" storyline. By that time, it had expanded to 63 stations.
The true events of the Battle of Alcatraz occurred May 2-4, 1946. Inmates attempted an escape by overpowering a guard and seizing weapons, taking hostages, and accessing the prison's dock to steal a boat. This is the true story of how their plan failed miserably – and fatally. Professor Bronson is out of the office! So Producer Brit steps in with Host Professor Beck Strah to talk about a $5.6 million dollar payout to the victim of an invasive search and the closure of a women's prison, The Office, the Lucasville Prison Riot from 1993 including the incident that lead to a prolonged lockdown, Warden “King” Arthur Tate, harsh realities, outside protests, inmate unions, the prisoner's demands, not killing COs, and the final settlement, and Ghostlight (2024).
Over two days in 1980, prisoners at a New Mexico penitentiary, angry at the conditions they experienced inside its walls, rose up against their jailers and wreaked havoc upon officers and inmates alike. It would be called the bloodiest prison riot in U.S. history. Over thirty-six hours, thirty-three prisoners were killed, eight guards were brutally assaulted, and hundreds were injured. The prison would never completely recover from the unprecedented violence that took place. In the years since, the Penitentiary of New Mexico, known as the Old Main Prison, has gained a reputation as one of the most haunted places in the state. After hearing the true story I'm about to tell you, you'll understand why these traumatized spirits may still be lurking. n 1928, a Colorado judge handed 38-year-old Danny Daniels, former safecracker for the notorious Kimes Gang in Oklahoma, two sentences: The first was 15 years hard labor for assault on a police officer. The second was 13 years, no hard labor, for armed robbery. Both sentences were to be served at at the Colorado State Penitentiary at Cañon City. Danny saw two problems with that. First off, Governor Billy Adams had promised the people of Colorado there would be NO PAROLE on his watch. Secondly, the sentences would be served CONSECUTIVELY...Danny swore there was no way he was going to do 28 years at Cañon City without the possibility of parole...Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/kinda-murdery--5496890/support.

In our first episode of season six, Chelsea Kiefer joins Hollie Marquess to discuss the social dynamics of two 1950s prison riots that took place in the women's prison in Raleigh, North Carolina. While both riots were motivated by very different circumstances, together they demonstrate that these women felt that rioting was the only way they could create change. However, the riots resulted in even less power for these women in an era before the major inmate rights movements.
Let’s get weird. Would you rather do a crazy cat lady or a couch? Easy choice for JD Vance. Name calling, sexism, and racism are all cries from the left this week as predicted by your MMO show. The Middle East is as explosive as ever. Something about chosen people and bastard children who need to find Jesus. NATO and EU continue to pout over their bad members who disagree with them. Russia and China friends? Who woulda thunk it? All that and much more in the 131st episode of the Millennial Media Offensive. Art by: Clip Custodian, who would also choose the couch.

Send us a Text Message. We have a unique episode for Montana this week. Lauren and Kenzie cover two stories that happen to take place in the same location. The Old Montana State Prison in Deer Lodge, Montana. Kenzie starts us off with a couple of the prison's most infamous inmates, Jerry Myles and Lee Smart. These two are responsible for holding over 20 hostages for 36 hours during the Prison Riot of 1959. Lauren continues with the telling of additional dark history that plagues the old prison. These stories lead many to believe that the prison is one of the most haunted places in Southwest Montana. The corrections watchdog says the country's worst prison riot, which had prisoners and guards fearing people would burn alive, could have been prevented. Chief Inspector Janis Adair spoke to Ingrid Hipkiss.
The Department of Corrections says emergency training for staff and prison facilities have improved as a result of the 2020 Waikeria Prison riot. Corrections National Commissioner Leigh Marsh spoke to Ingrid Hipkiss.
Corrections is acknowledging an inquiry into the Waikeria Prison riot which has found multiple issues with preparedness and communications. The department commissioned the report after the near week long violence left a building engulfed in flames in late December 2020. Commissioner of Services, Leigh Marsh says it's important to remember the event was a deliberate act by a group of violent individuals who put lives at risk. Despite the findings, he told Mike Hosking that he praised his staff on the scene. Marsh suggests the report points more to system processes and training issues, which they've invested in in recent years. LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Shortly after the jury returned to the Saline County District Court Tuesday morning to resume discussions they returned a verdict of guilt to murder in the first degree, carrying a life sentence.
At around 10:30 pm on February 1st, 1980, some of the prisoners in the medium security dormitory E-2 at New Mexico State Penitentiary (aka "Old Main), mostly cell-block 5 guys (men who'd been transferred into the dorm style room from maximum security single cells), were drinking hooch and decided they were going to take down the guards when they came in for bed checks, and that they did. What ensued was 36 hours of horrific deadly rioting. Hostages, torture, fire and inches of fluids everywhere. This is the most brutal prison riot to date in the US. Have you heard of the Briley Brothers? Three young brothers, and a teenage neighbor, went on a vicious murder, robbery, and rape spree in Richmond, Virginia in 1979. And then two of the brothers later planned a historic death row prison escape. Today's episode really again asks the question, "Are some people just born evil?" Prepare to be captivated by the remarkable journey of Janessa Finley-Ford as she invites us into her serene suburban home on the outskirts of Lincoln. Behind her quiet and calm demeanor lies a life that defies expectations and takes us from the humble beginnings of a one-room schoolhouse to the hallowed halls of an FBI courtroom.Growing up in Northeast Nebraska, Janessa experienced a childhood that reflected the end of a generation in America. As a fifth-generation farmstead dweller, she witnessed the fading remnants of small schoolhouses and family farms. Raised in a deeply traditional Catholic household, she was the youngest of her family, and her formative years were steeped in the values and traditions of her community. In her early twenties, Janessa took the plunge into marriage, only to find herself divorced at a young age. She also struggled with a debilitating eating disorder, a battle she fought with resilience and determination. As she navigated her way through the trials of her youth, Janessa found solace and purpose in a career within the government sector.Starting as a young prison caseworker, Janessa fearlessly broke barriers, becoming the first female to lead a prison emergency response team, a.k.a. riot squad. Her journey within the criminal justice system provided her with unique insights into the workings of the law, ultimately leading her to a position in homeland security. Her dedication and unwavering commitment to her work earned her the respect of her colleagues and peers. However, amidst her professional achievements, Janessa's personal life took a tumultuous turn. She crossed paths with a man who would forever change her world. Their love story was both passionate and complex, as their relationship faced numerous challenges, examinations, and moments of tearing apart. It was during this time that the unexpected occurred—an unforeseen visit from the FBI to their home.Janessa's partner became the target of an investigation involving threats to an election official. Caught in the overwhelming machinery of the government, their relationship was put to the test. In a whirlwind of legal proceedings, her partner ultimately made the difficult decision to accept a plea agreement. Janessa was left alone, holding the pieces of their lives together, waiting for the day they could be reunited.Undeterred by the hardships she has faced, Janessa has channeled her life experiences into launching her own coaching career. Her deep well of resilience, wisdom, and unwavering strength has empowered her to guide and support others through their own journeys. Her incredible outlook and profound knowledge are a testament to the power of the human spirit in the face of adversity.Join us as we delve into the captivating and inspiring journey of Janessa Finley-Ford and her husband—a story that transcends love, betrayal, and the triumph of the indomitable human spirit. Get ready to be moved, inspired, and reminded of the resilience within us all.For more of Janessa, please check out: Her BlogAs well as: Her Facebook For more of The Jar, visit:Website: https://www.thejar.live/Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCaTqB1dhDvl0Oh505ysdxTgFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/podcast.thejarInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/thejar_podcast/Disclaimer: The views stated in this episode are our guest's opinions and do not represent the views, beliefs or opinions of The Jar Podcast. In this episode, poet and activist Too Black joins to discuss the incredible story of the Pendleton 2. We dive into the details of the 1985 uprising at the Pendleton Correctional Facility and explore the factors that led to this critical event: racial tensions and a violent prison environment created by guards who were part of a KKK splinter group, the "Sons of Light," pushed John 'Balagoon' Cole and Christopher 'Naeem' Trotter to take a courageous stand against racist prison abuse.Too Black gives us a play-by-play of the day's events, highlighting the importance of unity among prisoners in making the rebellion, and we learn how Cole and Trotter managed to bring everyone together and prevent the situation from escalating into something much worse. We also discuss their decision to call Black radio stations and newspapers for help, warning them that their lives were in danger if they didn't intervene; examine the 14 demands they issued which were eventually met; and why this event became known as "Indiana's Attica." Despite their heroic actions to save a Black man's life from racist prison guards, both Cole and Trotter remain incarcerated to this day. As we wrap up our conversation, we share resources for listeners who want to learn more about the Pendleton 2 and get involved in supporting their cause. In Winson Green, Birmingham a category B prison is fit to burst, and on the 9th of October 2018 it finally does. Armed with one syringe, three men set five hundred convicts free and over the next twelve hours the building is almost burnt to the ground. The Winson Green riot was one of the largest prison mutinies for twenty-five years and leaves the public wondering how this could have happened. In this episode of Bad People, Dr Julia Shaw and Sofie Hagen explore when prison riots become inevitable? What factors make violence more likely? And can PRISM prevent it? This week, we go back in time to look at the life of a major league baseball player. His career ended in the 1920s, so he switched his profession to drinking, and trying to get a younger woman to like him, regardless of the fact that he's married. Not surprisingly, this ends badly, when he tracks his young lady friend to a hotel, where a ukulele playing suitor serenades the object of Sam's affection. Gunshots, ukulele beatings, and a gauntlet of good samaritans make this wild scene even more interesting! A very wild ride!!Play baseball before The Dodgers were even The Dodgers, drink yourself into looking 30 years older than you are, and always answer any perceived slight with gunfire with "Lucky" Sam Crane!!Check us out, every Tuesday! We will continue to bring you the biggest idiots in sports history!! "As we got out of the car, we all froze. In the light, we saw very tiny handprints, like that of a six-year-old, all over our car."TW! TW! TW! Examples of suicide, sexual abuse, and murder are present in both of Dan's stories. The first is a shorter tale that Dan promised to share here after a recent episode of the Timesuck Podcast when he talked about the 1980 New Mexico Prison Riot. The now closed prison has been supposedly haunted ever since that riot, and today we explore those claims. His big second story is the tale of Maurice Theriault. A name that probably rings familiar to a lot of horror film fans. Infamous demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren of the Conjuring universe were part of an exorcism on Maurice in May of 1985. Lynze has her usual two stories but this week, it's a little bit different. She shares encounters from the same fan who has two unrelated experiences about 10 or so years apart. Both stories are scary and interesting in their own ways!BAD MAGIC SUMMER CAMP TICKETS GO ON SALE MARCH 15TH, 2022 AT 12:00 PT!!!!!
