A bonus episode inspired by Holy Spirit after reading the lyrics of This Is the air I breathe written by Joseph Mettel. I was on an interview, pre-recording with Tabatha Strother of Talking With Tabatha and Sherry Jones of Sherry Speaks Life over on Tabatha's ministry platform. As we were visiting, this song came to mind and we even discussed it on the interview. However, there was more! After I got off the interview, Holy Spirit wouldn't allow this urgency to leave me. There is a very strategic, very specific timing of this particular "sound" and Rhema word that has to be released right now today. Although I have many things on my agenda today, I laid them all down to speak this over a recording and create a video to put with it. A few hours of work is well worth it, because it was meant specifically for this moment. As you listen, I encourage you to put it all down - no distractions, just listen. Just be in the moment in His holy presence. Focus to hear what the Lord has to minister to your heart through this sound and word. I know it is for someone, maybe even for multiple and many ones, but definitely for one, indeed. So, it had to be done. I pray that it blesses each listener that tunes in. Prayer of Agreement: God, You alone, be praised and glorified in all we do. Help us to submit it all to You, Father. Every ... last... bit of it. Be our all in all, in Your fullness, Abba Father! In the mighty name of Jesus we ask that these things be taught unto us, even more by the Spirit, as we walk and abide and remain in You. You in us and us in You, Mighty God! Let us know what United in Christ means in totality! We give You our "Yes" of submission unto Your Lordship in our lives and finish this with our Amen of acknowledgment of Your faithfulness and our own awe in Your very presence, saying "so be it" as we continue to stand in Your love. LYRICS and proper acknowledgment of honor for this A cappella cover of "This is the air I breathe" This is the air I breatheThis is the air I breatheYour holy presenceLiving in me/2/This is my daily breadThis is my daily breadYour very wordSpoken to meAnd I... I'm desparate for youAnd I... I'm lost without youThis is air I breatheYour holy presenceLiving in meThis is my daily breadThis is my daily breadYour very wordSpoken to meAnd I... Sherry Jones - The Power of Speaking Life Bible scripture can feel so empty when tragedy and trauma hit us. We struggle to right ourselves and make sense of what has happened. My precious guest Sherry Jones is no different. What started out as hanging with friends turned into a night that would bring confusion, shame and regret. But God never leaves us in our suffering and He proved Himself faithful as the pain and confusion ran its course in Sherry's mind and heart. It was the word of God, the scriptures that would rewrite her darkest fears. It was God's presence that brought the ink on crinkly pages to life and made His promises real to her. It was God's promises that would set her on a new path, into healing and restoration, a deeper understanding of His heart for her. Do you have any regret and shame? Ask God for a promise that you can set the eyes of your heart on and begin to believe Him for. He's the Father that never leaves, is never offended and does not give ultimatums. You're free to choose Him and you're free not to choose Him but do know that He waits patiently to restore, heal and redeem. That's His heart for you! February 15 2021 Monday Overwhelming Victory Is Ours / Share This Podcast On Your Social Media Ephesians 1:15-23 NLT 'Ever since I first heard of your strong faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for God's people everywhere, I have not stopped thanking God for you. I pray for you constantly, asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God. I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance. I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God's power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God's right hand in the heavenly realms. Now he is far above any ruler or authority or power or leader or anything else—not only in this world but also in the world to come. God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church. And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself.' Ephesians 3:14-21 NLT 'When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God's love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God's people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.' As Christians, we are followers of Christ but are our relationships centered around Him as well? Today's guest T. Renee Keys shares her testimony about how her relationship with Christ caused division and strife in her marriage and how that experience helped her learn how to build Christ-centered relationships and start her ministry Encourage Ministry. T. Renée Keys is the founder of Encourage Ministry. Her marriage was a blessing in the beginning, then life changed. She knew Jesus, but that brought tension in her marriage. Because of her relationship with Christ, it was good and bad. The good part was He gave her strength when the challenges of marriage and life came. The bad part was because I knew and served Jesus I was accused of putting a man (Christ), before my husband. She never viewed Christ as someone to cause division, but no matter how she tried to explain, it was a disagreement. Encourage Ministry was birth from those challenges. God told her to create Encourage Ministry 2004, she didn't believe it because was still going through difficulties in her marriage. Twelve years later, she is divorced, has suffered medical conditions, survived Hurricane Harvey, and lost her mom. But God is still a sustainer. The ministry was officially formed in October 2008 and has grown strong in the community. Currently, they are meeting on Zoom every 2nd Saturday of the month. They have: Ministered at Nursing Home facilities, Prisons, Women Shelters, Organized, and participated in Food/Clothing drives. For the 20/21 school year, they created and passed out face masks, gloves, sanitizer to youth of all ages. Their theme for 2020 was relationships this month. For 2021 the theme is Food for The Soul. T. Renee Keys is from Liberty, Texas. She moved to Houston in 1985 and has worked in the banking industry for almost 20 years. Interview Highlights * Renee defines Christ-centered relationships. * “We are supposed to be dedicated to Christ in all our ways, five areas: our personal life, our family life, our job, our community, our church life.” – T. Do you look at people with disabilities through the eyes of limitation? Today's guest, Jacquie McIver shares her and her son Jeremiah's testimony and how they are living beyond disability. Jacquie McIver is a single mother of Jeremiah, a beautiful Angel Gift given from God to nurture and love. As a former Pastor, it has always been her sincere desire to embrace everyone and help them discover their purpose in life. As an entrepreneur consultant, she helped organizations to exceed their potential. Upon graduating from Arizona State University with an MBA in Service Marketing, she spent several years traveling the world as a management consultant in corporate America with one of the world's top firms: Pricewaterhouse Coopers, LLC. She stands firmly on the certainty that every human being has a purpose to fulfill. She understands that individuals living with disabilities must have a voice to ensure their needs are met. Jacquie is convinced that individuals with special needs should not-and-need not-be defined by their disabilities; instead, they should be given every opportunity to live life to its fullest! This is what invokes the motto for the organization—"Living Beyond Disability. Shea and Michelle Watson love Jesus and host The Pantry Podcast together. They serve up spiritual nutrition for your eternal storehouse with every Wednesday episode. The Watsons met one Sunday Service and grew to know each other better because of how involved they both were (and still are) in various ministries in their local assembly. Combined, the two are involved in the outreach, design, technical, logistical, men's, women's, mother's, and life group ministries of Greater Grace Christian Fellowship. Additionally, Shea works full time away from their home just outside of DC, while Michelle stays home with their daughter, Calia, to freelance design for clients and run Thirtyone25—a faith blog and apparel store. Have you experienced church hurt or know someone who has? It's become a common problem in the church that we must address. Today's guest helps us unpack our feelings and face them head-on. Juanita McDonald is the Executive Director for Re-Discover ME Women Initiative. She holds an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Humanitarian Arts, a Master's Degree in Change Leadership, and Minor in Human Behavior. She is registered as a Victim Service Provider for the state of South Carolina, certified as a Girl Circle Facilitator through the Department of Social Services, and author of the Mental Safety Plan. Juanita created Re-Discover ME after going through a period of personal loss and re-establishment. During the time that she began to accomplish her own personal goals, she quickly realized the extent that women lose their identity by conforming to titles placed upon them by others or situations, which hinders them from fully developing. Therefore, their services center on Abuse, Trauma, and Mental Health Advocacy for women and teen girls. While creating the company's educational plan during its first year, Juanita worked with a test market of sixteen women from different underserved communities for four weeks (two groups), which resulted in four women (36%) making personal life changes: One received her GED; one started a nonprofit ministry “Walking in Praise and Purpose” for battered and abused women; another pursued counseling and opened a daycare center; and the fourth one got a new job, apartment, and purchased her first new car. · This does not include the online reach through social media and personal one on one consultations. Re-Discover ME is here to help women re-define their identity, re-develop the “ME” she wants to be, and re-focus her state of mind to pursue her goals. Interview Highlights * Dr. McDonald defines church hurt. * "The definition centers on the pain sometimes inflicted by religions institution which is a pain that distances sufferers from the community and from God." - Dr. Juanita McDonald * We discuss the shift in how we perceive the church when we've been hurt. * "Am I really turning to God or am I turning to the illusion of what God is?" - Dr. Juanita McDonald * We discuss why we don't have a straight answer regarding church hurt. * "God is an experience." - Dr. Juanita McDonald * We discuss why it's important for us to take responsibility for our personal relationship with God. * Dr. McDonald shares why it's hard for us to define our spirituality. * "We're more into the organized religion than into the spiritual connection." - Dr. Juanita McDonald * We discuss why it's easier to blame God than man. * "Using the phrase church hurt it actually is centered on everybody in the church but did everybody hurt you?" - Dr. Juanita McDonald Relevant Links & Resources * Connect with Re-Discover ME Women Initiative on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube. Race and stereotypes are hard topics to discuss. This is particularly true for the body of Christ because we like to believe we are color blind and problems don't exist. Today's guest, Steve Simms shares great insight on how the church can no longer be color blind, but color kind. Steve Simms is a white-American Christian who has spent a lifetime (along with his wife) exploring America's racial issues. From selling Ebony's Black History books door-to-door while in college to serving as a pastor in a black denomination. From avidly reading Black history, regularly prayer walking in inner-city neighborhoods, to visiting historical sites that relate to race in America. He shares his experiences, discoveries, & biblical ways to get beyond racial injustice, in the book, "Off the RACE Track--From Color-Blind to Color-Kind." In addition to being a pastor, Steve also worked as a full-time motivational speaker for 12 years, an alcohol and drug counselor for five years, and a Salvation Army officer for ten years. Timestamp 22:38 * "It wouldn't be a White church. It would be a Jesus church with a diversity of leaders...that will only work if we listen to the Holy Spirit." - Steve Simms * "In Christ, it doesn't matter how old someone is, male or email, Russian or Chinese. Is there a connection between our relationship with Christ and how we dress? Can we be saved and fly at the same time? Today we discuss these questions and more with our guest, Viva Lewis Harris. Viva Lewis Harris is a minister, mother, grandmother, counselor, and the owner of Viva's Closet, LLC. She is a self-taught designer/seamstress that has been humbly serving clients for almost three years. She makes conversational pieces that depict the personality of her clients. With a Master's degree in Counseling, Viva integrates her counseling and transitional life skills, along with sewing together to minister to her clients. She seeks wisdom and guidance from God as she creates masterpieces that compliment. During this short time as a designer, Viva and her team have completed her first annual Fashion Show in 2019 called "Fashion Favor." She was adamant about creating a clergy line that allowed her clients to minister in style. Though modest, they can be bold in fashion, making a statement of who THEY are and WHOM's they are. Her motto is "His masterpiece, My hands." Viva teaches beginner sewing classes to youth and other women. She also has a podcast, Sew Chronicles, that discusses many facets of life while focusing on the three towers of strength: Mind, body, and spirit. Viva was in her car when she birthed Sew Chronicles. She was thinking about how people can be impeccably dressed while IN the church, yet completely broken inside due to hurts, situations, or events that affected them. In her podcast, she continually focuses on her listeners living FREE and dying EMPTY. As a granddaughter of a pastor (PK); and growing up in the church, Viva experienced the constant instruction of "do's and dont's" of how women should and should not dress in the church. She always sought clarity on why and what that meant. She conformed to the many rules of dress of the church, in fear that if she didn't obey, she was on her way to hell. After seeking God and the Holy Spirit, Viva stepped out of the usual do's and don'ts of rules and instructions; and walked in the freedom of modest fashion. In this episode, Viva shares her testimony and thoughts regarding how believers should dress. We discuss the evolution of fashion in the church, how we should approach someone we believe is dressed inappropriately and more. Tune in to this fun and engaging conversation! Before she became a celebrity, a war hero and civil rights activist, Josephine Baker was a girl growing up in early 20th-century St. Louis. Historical fiction writer Sherry Jones has a new book out inspired by Baker’s remarkable life and is headed to her late heroine’s hometown this week to discuss it at Left Bank Books. Jones talks about the book, “Josephine Baker’s Last Dance,” and the woman behind it, with St. Louis Public Radio’s Jeremy D. Goodwin.

From 2009: Kamran Pasha is a brave man. He knows that Sherry Jones’ book, "The Jewel of Medina"—about the birth of Islam—lost its publisher in 2008 because of the ruckus it stirred up. He knows all about the decade-long fatwa against Salman Rushdie. And yet I hold in my hands his just published novel, "Mother of the Believers." It is the story of the Prophet Muhammad told in the voice of his young wife, Aisha. Pasha is also a writer and producer on the NBC-TV drama series “Kings” starring Ian McSh
One of the nice things about our listeners is that they share their views and experiences with us. So it is that, after we last covered the lawsuit brought by “To Kill a Mockingbird” legend Harper Lee against a museum in her south Alabama hometown, both Donna and Peter have changed their views on the case. Thank you, Debriefists! Well, that suit has been settled now – and a very good thing, too. And while we’re speaking of past shows, here is the link Peter mentioned to our show featuring author Sherry Jones, whose trilas and tribulations with her book “The Jewel of Medina” we covered very extensively. Sadly, extremist never sleeps, and here is a similar case, this time featuring Penguin and Wendy Doniger's book “The Hindus”. THIS WEEK - Eric Kampmann on The Jewel of Medina This week we have a web-exclusive interview with Eric Kampmann of Beaufort Books - the company that showed the heart we all wish Random House had. For background, listen to our discussion on how Random House caved into the fear of Islamic reprisal, canceling publication of The Jewel of Medina by Sherry Jones in Podcast #26: Muslims, Publishers, and Free Speech. We were all hoping someone would come to the rescue and Beaufort, led by Kampmann, did just that. Ex asks what Eric thought upon hearing of the Random House disgrace. What we get is some real inside-baseball on the corporate politics that may have been behind their decision, as Eric has been in the business many years and knows some of principals involved. He goes on to explain how Beaufort made the decision to get involved. We talk a little bit about what the book is about and why the book may be a "seller", even though Sherry Jones is a first-time author. Find out if Beaufort has any plans in place in the event of terrorism. Eric talks about the support he has received from retailers. We get a peek inside the publishing industry and the likelihood of self-censorship in the future. Finally, the positive changes that have taken place within the publishing industry - something every free-thinker should be heartened by. Eric gives better than an iTunes 5 Star Review to Another Goddamned Podcast and gets a prize. You can probably guess what it is. (00:00) We come back from the interview and the Herd and discuss it a little further. Ex wonders which of us is very likely to buy the book. Is a historical fiction about a religion going to be of interest to people like us? Is it bad if there were no real Islamic threats that Random House thought it was OK to use claims of threats as their reason for not publishing? (35:49) It's puzzle time. Do any of our listeners know how to interpret Faithfreeists and Christians? Then, see what you can do with some biblical names. Ex gives the results of our "God Bless America" poll. Evo has two quizzes this week. One is just for the Herd, but you can play along! It gets better. The one for you is sweet. But click off of the podcast immediately after the quiz or listen to Evo sing. You've been warned. (51:50) UPDATE: The European publisher of The Jewel of Medina had his home firebombed in an apparent terrorist attack. THIS WEEK - Muslims, Publishers, and Free Speech Islam sucks, OK? We examine Random House's decision to quash the publication of Sherry Jones's book The Jewel of Medina. Why? The publisher "learned" that the novel might infuriate Muslims. Who's Denise Spellberg, and what was she thinking when she fomented Islamic hysteria? Doesn't the Random House decision just encourage threats of violence? The Herd wonders if there's any book that would deserve banning. It's clear that Random House cancelled publication for one reason only: Can you say "scared shitless," boys and girls? What legal rights does Jones have? We look a little harder at Spellberg and what she had to gain by worrying the editors. Why is it OK to anger other groups, but not Muslims? Philly wants to open up a new front in the so-called "War on Terror." We explore Muslims' responses to Western secular culture - even when they're living in that culture. Evo tells us what Sherry Jones' next move should be. We ask: What might Random House do if it was suddenly besieged by infuriated emails and calls from people who love our freedoms. (That's a hint, listeners.) Or should freethinkers simply threaten violence, just as Muslims would? Question: Is the Bush foreign policy indirectly responsible for the cancelling of Jones's book? Why does Denise Spellberg get us pissed off at liberals? What exactly are our government's Constitutional responsiblities to religion? Briefly, it's "Be Kind to Christians" Week. But that doesn't last long! Do we reveal the correct answer to last weeks' puzzle? Dawk! You'll have to finish listening to find out if we're lying or not. A scrupulous puzzle-solver actually turns down his AGP secret decoder ring. And don't you just live for our poll results? Finally, Evo asks: Where the fuck are our science-savvy listeners?
