Many fail to follow through with requirements, such as providing book lists for "Book Chat Live," causing difficulties in scheduling and creating episodes. His advice is for potential guests to understand the show's format and fulfil necessary tasks when pitching.Unscripted Podcasts: Podcasts come in diverse formats. Some shows follow structured scripts and predetermined questions, others prefer a more unscripted and spontaneous approach, allowing for more natural conversations.Podcasting Challenges: The time-consuming nature of editing, learning curves associated with audio/video editing, and the need for consistent quality and skills to maintain audience engagement.Podcasting Strategy and Audience Growth: Podcasting might not be the top-of-funnel solution to gain a massive audience immediately, but it's an intimate medium that, when used strategically, can contribute to audience growth and retention further down the funnel. In this podcast Vic speaks with Justin Kreuter, Patricia Tran, and Teresa Chan about ‘Social Media, Networking, Community and the Human Connection' We recorded the conversation live during week 6 of the 2023 Harvard Macy program - Transforming your Teaching using Technology. In a metacognitive move, we hoped our podcast conversation would illustrate some of the points we made in the conversation – “the medium is the message”! Our discussion started with a recap of the week 6 session. This included a self-assessment by scholars on their current professional social media engagement, a wonderful precis of the various social media platforms by Patricia Tran, and group work on social media dilemmas for health professions educators. The podcast conversation explored these themes, with a focus on the different roles in which that health professions educators might be using social media and online engagement – as teachers, as institutional leaders, and as faculty developers. We finished with a deeper dive on podcasting, and a shout out to own Harvard Macy Institute podcast. Happy listening!
Martin Luther has said, “If you want to change the world, pick up your pen and write.” If not directly changing the world, one can surely do it by changing one's own life. We know the power of putting thoughts on paper through writing. And, who doesn't love their favorite authors who have the power to transport us to a different world? These writers enter our hearts as they relate with us through their stories. It is reading such relatable books that help us develop ideas, inculcate healthy changes, or just feel the emotions we want. About Tim Lewis Tim Lewis is an accomplished author and a social media guru. Tim Lewis is a former IT manager in a financial markets company His first book was Timeshock: I Want My Life Back. Timings 00:00:17- Introducing Cliff 00:00:48- How Cliff started in Law Enforcement 00:08:41- Being an analyst 00:19:25- Being a Director of OCAN and how this links to linking to silos 00:25:39- The analyst role: where we are, where we are going, where we want to be Bio: I began my career at York Regional Police in 2008 as a District Crime Analyst serving the regions of Newmarket and Markham and eventually serving as a Crime Analyst for the region of Vaughan and King for four years. Some of my responsibilities included analyzing data and applying research methods to identify crime patterns and series, modus operandi profiles, victim/target profiles and identifying high crime/call areas or locations where public disorder are likely to occur. Moreover, the District Crime Analyst forecasts, projects and analyzes crime by conducting correlation and regression analysis and using various investigative analysis software, database programs, statistical calculations and other computer software to determine if crimes are linked. We are also responsible for identifying and monitoring known criminals/organizations and any potential police hazards within the community. After years of service in the Districts and embedded with the York communities, I was assigned to the Intelligence Unit where I worked as a strategic analyst while assigned to a variety of organized crime portfolios. I believe that I am considered a subject matter expert as it relates to Eastern European Organized Crime (EEOC), Organized Distraction Thefts and Fraud Investigations and have several Intelligence Reports that warrant my awareness of these crime types and organizational groups. I supported 5 different criminal portfolios on a tactical and strategic level inclusive of Fraud, Hold Up, Drugs & Vice and Eastern European Organized Crime (Georgian Organized Crime) understanding principles of organized crime and gang intelligence in Canada. My functions included developing meticulous linkage analysis charts while producing detailed and referenced strategic intelligence reports. I also analyzed electronic records meticulously producing reports for investigative practice and disclosure and testified at several trials including delivery testimony in an attempted murder investigation in relation to the movement of the accused parties telephone records and tower locations. I am also considered well versed in the area of social media analysis with advanced capabilities at discovering identities online while utilizing open source searches and software to manage organizational risk. In 2009 I was awarded the Crime Analyst of the year award after being nominated by senior officials for his analytical support in several criminal investigations and for exceeding the organizations values with respect to teamwork and accountability. As a result of my extensive experiences and background, I was asked by senior officials to be seconded to the newly formed Real Time Operations Centre (RTOC) at York Regional Police as a Criminal Intelligence Analyst to assist in creating / developing the crime analyst position. After a successful eight months of testing, the position was made permanent and I was assigned to create the job posting and assist in the staffing and training of a secondary analyst. The Real Time Operations Centre analyst is highly tactical, responding to officers live with a variety of requests while triaging the calls for service to seek organization and officer risk in real time. The position has a strategic component that requires the analyst to ingest criminal information and produce strategic intelligence reports addressing areas of risk including gang intelligence, organized crime, money laundering, terrorism, cyber intelligence, drugs and weapons. Prior to my service with York Regional Police, I was employed as a Fraud Investigator with several financial institutions while pursuing my honourary bachelor's degree in Criminology from the University of Toronto where I graduated with honours. Experiences in the financial institutions included investigating skimming files, internal fraud investigations, money laundering investigations and cybercrime. In addition to these investigative duties, I provided internal training to members of the financial institutions on detecting fraud and created an online forum for recognizing fraud patterns with the intention of providing support for employees to stop fraud at the front end. I was both nominated and awarded several internal awards at the Royal Bank of Canada and Meridian Credit Union for innovative strategies in combatting crime while championing training and education surrounding fraud mechanisms. In late 2015 I was invited to assist officials at Seneca College in developing a Bachelor of Criminal Intelligence and Analysis program by reviewing the program map and making recommendations for new courses that would promulgate the course to new levels and provide students with an innovative program designed to reflect current analytical strategies. Some of the new courses created included Organized Crime in Canada, Gang Intelligence and Social Media Networking and Analysis. In January 2016 I was then invited to teach Diversity and First Nations to students of the Police Foundations course at Seneca College overseeing approximately 90 students and providing a forum in understanding issues in Diversity (race, gender, sexual orientation) as it is applied in policing as well as exploring First Nation experiences in Canada. I was also the Creator and Co-chair of an Internal Support Network (ISN) at York Regional Police called YRP Pride. The ISN provides a forum of support for members of the organization an avenue to garner support, feel inclusive, as well as developing external and internal partnerships to champion training and education surrounding issues in LGBTQ policing and Transgendered issues. In 2016 I founded the organizations first public event hosting members of the community who are transgendered to speak to YRP officers about their experiences and beginning to form open discussions about Transgendered issues. The ISN is the largest at YRP with over 35 members who oversee attending public events (Pride). In 2016 the ISN was awarded with an award for “Outstanding Community Service” by PFLAG for maintaining excellent external partnerships with perpetuating positive community member relations. In May of 2020 I was invited by the Ontario Chief Coroner's Office (OCCO) to serve as a crime analyst for Broken Trust - a reinvestigaton of nine sudden deaths in Thunder Bay. The release for that extraordinary report will be released in 2021 and will serve to invigorate discussions in the policing community.

Featured in this week's episode of The Productive Designerhost Crystal Collinson with author and speaker J. Kelly Hoey. Kelly started off a lawyer, but after many years on Twitter, she has since discovered her unique ability to combine networking and social media. She combined the digital age with the “analog” world, and she has unlocked the ability to create a new network without having to leave the house. In light of the pandemic and the need to meet virtually, she gives tips on how to best use your different platforms to work for you. The biggest advice she has for anyone who is on social media is to stop thinking about social media being another alternate personality. Instead, your social media should be a reflection of who you are as a person. Depending on the platform, you can decide what piece of your personality you might share, but no matter the media, it should always be authentic. You should never be striving to be anyone other than yourself. Kelly also knows the power of networking, the right way. After meeting with someone, you should always send a quick email thanking them for the meeting. The second email afterward is most important and is often forgotten. The second email should be explaining what you did with the insight and information you were given. By doing so, you demonstrate that you listened and you took action. A simple follow-up status email shows that you are taking the time to show your appreciation. When taking time for others, people will notice. So, join Crystal and Kelly as they talk about social media, networking, and authenticity. And then, do something today that your future self will thank you for and check out J. Media research specialists have analyzed the impact of women leaders in social media and social apps. Studies show that women leaders are instrumental in the evolution of stereotypes and shifting demographic trends across multiple categories of social media networks. Women leaders have an impact on media, business, networking, advertising and entertainment. Data shows that women are more active than men on social media, in the number of hours per week, and levels are participation and engagement. Experts believe that since women typically adapt and embrace new technology more easily, they will continue to lead and foreshadow trends in the digital space, and in business. Unlike their male counterparts women typically are more expressive, communicative and willing to engage across multiple platforms and conversations. Inherently more willing to share and bond with friends and strangers in social space, women are leading change in the online space, which translates offline in a variety of ways, particularly supporting their local communities. Cuture Branding, Social Media Networking, building your brand
It’s time to dig deep into the details! If you’re ready to learn how to make the most of your unique social media marketing strategy, this is the episode for you. I’m not claiming to be an expert in this topic, but I’ll tell you exactly what works for me so you can implement some of those strategies yourself. So much of relationship-building these days is done on social media, so pick a platform and remain consistent. (Yes, you can just pick one or two instead of trying to spread yourself across all of them.) My first important piece of advice is that social media doesn’t need to rule your life! I work in focused blocks of time, which means that my mind isn’t scattered. Next, be intentional in adding value. This means being a giver! There are plenty of people out there spamming people and asking for things. By giving and adding value, you make enough deposits that when you have something to sell, you’ll be in a better position to receive. Finally, and this is so important, be consistent! This doesn’t mean you need to post every day, but show up for your audience when you tell them you will. This builds trust, and allows your audience to know when and how to expect you. Everybody does it differently, so do what works for you, but know that you don’t need to do it all. Finally, remember not to build everything on rented land. Instead, bring your audience from your social platforms back to your home base. Tune in to hear more about all of these points and learn some strategies for making the most of your social media marketing! In This Episode [00:46] - Welcome to episode 36 of the podcast! Today, Jevonnah will talk all about how to make the most of your social media marketing strategy. [01:54] - Jevonnah is now on Instagram! [03:07] - We hear a listener’s question about how to handle the wavering, swinging mind, as well as Jevonnah’s powerful answer. [07:07] - Jevonnah’s biggest piece of advice is to ask God, but not use prayer as an excuse to not take action. [09:52] - We move onto today’s topic: making the most of your social media marketing platform. [10:57] - Be intentional in adding value, Jevonnah advises. [11:44] - Jevonnah’s next tip for making the most of your social media is to be consistent. [12:43] - Everybody does it differently, Jevonnah points out, and explains an important point about building on rented land. [15:39] - Jevonnah explores the importance of running your own race. [18:09] - What will you leave behind? What will your life say? What will others say, and see, as a result of what you have done with the gifts that God has placed into your hands? On the AskALLi Beginners' Self-Publishing Salon, Orna Ross and Tim Lewis look at editing. Money spent on editing is not just a necessary investment in your book but also in your writing and publishing future. Every writer needs an editor, but getting the most from your investment can be challenging, especially when you’re starting out. Orna and Tim explain how to decide which type of edit you need, how to choose the best editors for your books and how to work with them to get the best creative and business return on your investment. Also, on Inspirational Indie Authors Howard Lovy interviews Yvonne Caputo, author of Flying with Dad: A Daughter, A Father, and how his World War II Stories Brought them Closer. Growing up, Yvonne did not have a very close relationship with her father. A member of the WWII "Greatest Generation," her dad was very brusque with her and did not show very much emotion or affection. That was what was expected of fathers of his generation. They were also expected to simply put the war behind them and move on with their lives. It was not until Yvonne was sixty years old, and her father near the end of his life that he finally opened up about his experiences, both humorous and sad, during WWII and about the nightmares he had ever since. At last, after nearly a lifetime, Yvonne found a sense of closure with her father. It took her about twelve years to finish this book, which is about her dad, and her, the war, and so much more. On the AskALLi Beginners' Self-Publishing Salon, Orna Ross and Tim Lewis look at the topic of using beta readers in your self-editing process. A beta reader is a trusted book lover whose opinion helps you to do a final self-edit on your book before sending it to the editor. But how do you choose the right beta readers? And how do you ensure you’ll get constructive advice on your manuscript and not just a review or opinion? Also, on Inspirational Indie Authors Howard Lovy interviews J. Dianne Dotson. Dianne is both a science and science fiction writer who is publishing a series of books, the first of which is called Heliopause: The Questrison Saga: Book One. And that's where Dianne shines as one of our favorite kinds of science fiction authors--- one who actually knows about science. Learn How To Prepare For And Deliver Your Very First Scope From Expert Natalie Cutler-Welsh And Nile Nickel. We Cover All The Basics, Talk About The Smallest Details To Make Sure You Have The Best Chance To Create A Spectacular First Set Of Periscope Broadcasts. Natalie Cutler-Welsh is an Author, Blogger, Podcaster and Mother of three. She is known as the ‘Go to Girl’ for women entrepreneurs who want to connect and get the word out about their business. Born and raised in Canada and now living in stunning New Zealand, Natalie is all about embracing change and making dreams a reality. She does this through connecting and coaching women in business in online communities and high level Mastermind groups. She’s all about making Social Media & Networking easy, fun & fabulous. Easily Point & Click Your Way To Profit Pulling Viral Stores Rapid Mailer special offer $67 WHAT IS PERISCOPE AND WHY IS IT SO HOT? Periscope is the new must-have app. It lets you broadcast live video to the world and allows you to explore the world through someone else’s eyes. The great thing about Periscope is, when you go live, your viewers instantly get to see you and hear exactly what you have to say. They can even engage with you by adding real-time comments and send you “Hearts” – Periscope’s rating system. The more hearts you get, the higher your Periscope Broadcast is rated. 6 EMBARRASSING MISTAKES YOU DON’T WANT TO MAKE IT PERISCOPE Tip#6: Your Viewers Can Always Get A Replay. Natalie encourages you to not worry about the number of your viewers during your Periscope broadcast. If you only have 5 or 50 viewers in the beginning and then suddenly your viewer numbers drop down to 27 or lower, that’s fine. Always remember, people come and go. As a Periscope host, Natalie has had to realize that her viewers might be walking their kids to school or maybe even doing some shopping – whatever is going on in their lives. Sometimes they just lose their internet connection. Worrying too much about the number of viewers will not help you create an awesome Periscope session. Natalie also mentions, that you should primarily care about giving value to each and every viewer that you have. Be there for them, be yourself. Don’t be disheartened if something unexpected happens, your viewers have the Periscope “Replay” function available. Tip# 6.1: When you go live with Periscope, you need to hold your phone vertically and not horizontally. Tip# 6.2: When people start coming in, greet them enthusiastically! Tip #6.3: Periscope will make your scope available for 24 hours via Twitter. Twitter will automatically tweet out a link for your Scope allowing you and your viewers to repost it all over social media. You can also upload your scope to YouTube. This Wizard Makes It Insanely Easy To Create Excellent Articles, Blog Posts, and Videos – FAST – And Use Them On Your Blog, Social Media, YouTube and More! Custom Content Wizard $197 Tip #5: Have A Call To Action – But Don’t Be Pushy Natalie says, “When you’re using Periscope, don’t be super salesy“. Don’t be the type of person who makes their pitch straight away, constantly selling your products/services. The call to action can be as simple as inviting your viewers to follow you on Twitter or make another “No obligation, No Pressure” type of offer. Tip# 5.1 – You have to realize that when you’re using periscope, it’s a matter of giving your viewers value as well as instructions to where to go and get your materials or the items that you’re selling. Tip# 5.2 – Don’t physically type URL’s. What most people do, is hold out a piece of paper with their websites pre-written on it and present it to the camera. As the person hosting a Periscope broadcast, physically typing anything is simply not possible. The Fastest & Easiest Way Online To Build High Converting, AMAZING Looking Landing Pages!.. Product: LPM – Landing Page Monkey $37 Tip #4: Do Not Engage With Comments Too Much When Natalie started her first periscope, she was actually shaking. She had been a podcaster for three years and is comfortable recording video. But Periscope is not the same as recording a podcast, hosting a webinar or creating a video. It’s an entirely different thing altogether. Tip 4.1 – When you want to host your own periscope, make sure of the following; Download the app Watch at least 3-5 periscopes, this will give you the feel for what it is all about It is easy to get distracted while using Periscope, especially with the thought that viewers are commenting in other scopes and not yours. Getting distracted by engaging in comments or totally ignoring them all together is not a good strategy. Find a good balance. Engage with your viewers but not too much. Tip #3: Don’t Come Across As Too Polished Or “Salesy”. Periscope is real and raw, that is why people love it. It’s a genuine form of you extending yourself to your viewers. “One of the most common mistakes that people make is to try to be that “perfect poster” type of person and even try to behave that way. This is not a website. You don’t want to be seen as the vanilla, website spokesperson. Everyone wants to see the person behind your business” – Natalie Tip #2: Have An Enticing Topic Twitter will send the topic of your broadcast to your followers so it’s really important to have something that sounds enticing and engaging. Ideally, target your ideal audience on your Periscope broadcast and tell people, “What I’ll do is “this” or “this is a tip I got from an industry leader…”. “Any time I have an idea, random or not, I write it down because I’m not going to remember them all.” Tip 2.1 – Periscope drops the call sometimes and you have to start all over. Taking notes (maybe in your phone) will help you if this type of situation occurs. When a connection drops, all you have to do is copy and paste your enticing topic back into Periscope. Tip 2.2 – Periscope will automatically capture first, whatever you have in front of your phone. Natalie’s suggestion: Create an image that basically says the title of your scope and have it as the primary display, so when it’s saved your viewers can replay it, they see the image you created. It will be will be the very first thing that your audience will see. Otherwise, just make your primary screen look professional. Tip 2.3 – Be aware of what’s going to come first and give be aware of the impression it’s going to make. Easily Point & Click Your Way To Profit Pulling Viral Affiliate Store Self Optimizing Word Press Affiliate Theme. Covert Store Builder $47 (Automatically have an affiliate store on your site) Tip #1: Be Prepared Periscope gives Natalie’s business so much potential to showcase her expertise and share her wonderful knowledge with all of her viewers Natalie’s Proven Advice; Go for it but be prepared – If you have plans to host a content driven scope, make sure to write down the main points you want to highlight so that you can always go back to your notes when you feel like you’re off the topic. In terms of backdrop, lighting and sounds: Just make sure that you’re not pointing straight to the wind, your headphones must have a microphone when using them and if you’re planning not to use a desktop, make sure it has a microphone. Do a little recap and summary every once in a while. Maybe when you’re halfway through your periscope. This will benefit those viewers who came in late and those who come in and out of your scope. Research first before scoping. Spend quality time thinking of your headline, title and contents of your topic. Have fun!
