So, you want to be an entrepreneur. You want to start your own business and make your own way in this world. You want to build something, create something, and make a difference.Well, that's great! But before you do any of that—before you even think about getting started on your business—you need to establish yourself as an authority. If people don't know you're an authority, how will they trust you with their money? How will they believe that what you're selling them is worth spending their hard-earned cash on?The answer is simple: by proving it with things like photographs of celebrities or other influencers. Just take a picture with someone famous (preferably someone who's successful in the same industry as your business), and then post it to social media with a caption like "Just got back from lunch with governor." Boom—now everyone knows that they can trust you as an expert in your field!https://clinttt.com/https://creativeentrepreneurship.nethttps://greybugphotography.com ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★
how to start your own worm farm in 2022IntroductionIf you want to start your own worm farm, the process is surprisingly easy. You'll need some supplies and a little initial investment, but once you've got those in place you'll be able to grow worms for years to come. Here's how:How to finance your worm farmFinancing a worm farm is simple, but it's also one of the most important steps to take before you get started. Worms are low maintenance and don't require much care, but they do need some basic necessities like water and food. In addition to this, your worms will generate waste that you'll need to dispose of from time to time.If you're looking for a reliable way to finance your worm farm, consider becoming an affiliate partner with one of the major companies that sell worms online. Choose the business model that works best for your needs and join their affiliate network today!select the type of wormsYou'll need to select the type of worm that's best suited to your conditions and needs. If you're hoping to start a very small worm farm, red wigglers are the way to go. Nightcrawlers are larger and can handle more waste than red wigglers, but they are also slower moving and less efficient at processing food scraps into compost (the final product). Red wigglers make for a good compromise between these two factors: They're quicker than nightcrawlers but more efficient than them as well.In general, red wigglers are better suited for indoor applications because they don't need much space (which makes them easy to manage in small spaces like bedrooms) and thrive in cooler climates—unlike their larger cousin the nightcrawler that prefers warmer temperatures above 70 degrees Fahrenheit (21 degrees Celsius), which means it would be difficult for an indoor worm farm using this species outside during winter months or colder regions where temperatures fall below freezing regularly throughout autumns or springs.)Worm bin sizeThe ideal size for your worm bin is one that allows you to reach into the center of the bed and easily grab up to about five worms at once.In this configuration, you can fit around 100 worms in a single cube without having to worry about overcrowding. Therefore, if you want to start with 30-50 worms (the recommended minimum number of worms), then you'll need 10-15 cubes total.food supplyWorms will eat just about anything but they prefer things that are easy to digest. Here are some of the most common foods you can feed them: Fruit and vegetable scraps (no citrus or onion peels, please) Eggshells Grains (rice, oatmeal, wheat) Coffee grounds and tea leaves (unused)These items can be added directly to your worm bin after being chopped or ground up into small pieces. You should also add a small amount of soil from time to time as this will give them something else to chew on. The worms will process these materials and produce castings that contain valuable nutrients for your soil. Environment controlEnvironment control is another important factor. The temperature of the worm farm should range from 60 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit, and the humidity should be maintained between 60-80%. The lights should be kept on at night so that they can eat more food and grow faster. Air circulation is also necessary; this helps keep your worms healthy because it prevents them from getting sick easily.Harvest wormsHarvesting your worms is easy and fun. You can harvest them at any time, but the best time to do so is when you need to feed them or see if they've produced any eggs or cocoons. To harvest the worms, gently turn over each tray so that the bottom faces up and all of the waste falls into a bucket. Then take out one tray at a time and place it in an area where you want to spawn more worms (such as on top of another tray). Remove any cocoons from this tray and put them back down into their original trays before removing them completely from your system.you can farm worms!Worm farming is a great way to recycle food waste and create compost for your garden. Not only can you use worms to fertilize the soil and make compost, but you can also sell them for profit. If you're interested in starting your own worm farm, here are some tips to keep in mind:Choose the right type of worms: Red wigglers (also called redworms) are ideal for composting organic waste because they eat quickly and reproduce quickly. They grow up to 1/2 inch long and thrive at temperatures between 50-80 degrees Fahrenheit during cooler months and warmer months when temperatures reach 80 degrees or higher. Earthworms also work well for composting, but they're smaller than red wigglers (3/4 inch long) so it takes longer for them to break down organic matter like food scraps into usable soil amendments such as worm castings that help plants grow faster and better. Whichever type of earthworm you choose depends on what size container suits your needs best—you may have more room in an indoor kitchen countertop space with less light exposure than outdoors where there's direct sunlight exposure every day!ConclusionWorm farming is a great way to go green and help the environment. The worms will eat your food scraps, which would otherwise be dumped in landfills or on farms as fertilizer. The waste from the worms can then be used as a natural fertilizer for plants in your garden or backyard! Worms are easy to care for and don't require much space, making them perfect pets for people with limited resources like apartments or gardens. https://www.cathyscomposters.com/ https://www.cathyssprouters.com/ https://www.cathysclub.com/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/cathynesbitt/ https://www.facebook.com/CathysCrawlyComposters https://www.youtube.com/user/rhgn2112 https://twitter.com/SquirmCathy Nesbitt is a Health and Wellness Advocate. Being a producer for comedyProducing a comedy club is an undertaking that requires careful planning and preparation. You need to book the venue, secure headliners, find opening comedians, hire a host and sell drinks and food. What would you expect when putting together your own comedy club show?Book the venueOnce you have your venue booked and the tickets are selling, you can breathe a sigh of relief. The hard part is over and now all that's left to do is stage your show. But hold on! There's still some stuff to think about before opening night—including whether or not the venue has sound equipment, lighting, parking facilities, and other amenities that will enhance both your performance and audience experience. Here are some things to consider:Is the venue large enough for ticket sales? If not, what kind of atmosphere would be most conducive for comedy?Does it have a good sound system so that everyone in attendance can hear during performances? Will there be enough light onstage so performers don't trip over their feet while doing standup routines or improv skits? What parking options are available nearby if people drive rather than take public transportation?Book headlinersA headliner is the main attraction of a comedy show. They're usually the most popular comedians in town, so you want to book them for your event.A headliner has earned their place as the headliner because they get the most laughs from an audience. They also charge more money than other comics and make more money for a venue than any of their colleagues or fellow performers on that same bill.Booking at least one headliner is important for any comedy show, but it's essential if you want people coming back time after time, year after year (because if there are no great comedians performing at your venue, why would anyone come?).Book opening comediansAn opening act is a comedian who performs before the headliner. Opening acts are often booked to warm up the audience for a show, but that's not always the case. Some clubs or theaters like to use them as an opportunity to showcase new talent, and you might have an opening act who's just getting started in comedy or isn't well known yet. It's important to find comedians who will work well with your audience and fit into your show's atmosphere. Look at their résumés and decide whether they'll be able to get laughs from your crowd without being too dirty or offensive—if you've got more of an older crowd than usual, maybe go with a more family-friendly comedian instead of one whose material would appeal more toward young adults (assuming that it doesn't offend anyone else).Book a hostThe host is the person who introduces the comedians and keeps the show running smoothly. The host should be someone who is good with people, but not a comedian themselves. In fact, it's better if they aren't! This is because a good sense of humor isn't necessarily one of their main assets—it's more important that they have a knack for improvising and can think on their feet.Post fliers and book a photographerAfter you've written your show, it's time to start marketing it. There are several ways of doing this, but the most important thing is that you have a flier prepared that advertises your show and can be distributed in the area where the venue will be showing your movie. Try to have these fliers ready at least a week before opening night. The next step is booking a photographer for your show. This person should either be someone who wants to get into comedy photography or just someone who has plenty of experience taking pictures at events like this one. You'll need their services first thing in the morning on opening day so they can take pictures during rehearsal and later on in the afternoon while people are viewing movies throughout their viewing period (usually around two hours). When all is said and done, make sure they know they're allowed to post those pictures on social media—it's one of the easiest ways to attract attention from potential fans!Line up sponsors and sell drinks and foodNext, you'll need to line up sponsors for your comedy show. In order to do that, you need to make sure that you have a venue in place. Then the next step is going to be finding comedians and bands that fit your brand and image. One of the best ways to promote your comedy show is by advertising with flyers, posters and stickers on glass doors or windows at local businesses (like coffee shops) where people will see them as they go about their daily lives. You can also advertise through social media sites like Facebook and Twitter; however, since these are free advertising platforms it may not be worth your time unless you want exposure without having to spend any money upfront. Again if using social media just remember not everyone uses these so don't expect everyone including in-person friends or family members who live far away – or those who have no interest whatsoever - will follow along! But wait there's more: once all this has been done then comes making sure food & drinks are served at an affordable price point (if possible). If you're going to produce a comedy club, you have to have a comedian who can headline. When you're producing comedy, you have to have a comedian who can headline. The headliner is the main attraction of your show. They're usually the most famous comedians and they get paid more than opening acts. Headliners are booked weeks in advance, so it's important to book your headliner early on.The last act to perform at a comedy club is called the headliner because that's where you'll find them when booking tickets for shows (usually online), but also because they are typically bigger stars than those who open for them or close out shows with them (which is why many comedians call themselves "middle-liners").ConclusionProducing a comedy club is an exciting venture. It can be a lot of work, but it's also a lot of fun. You'll need to put in some research and planning before you get started, but once you do, things should take off quickly. The most important thing is to do your research and make sure that when you hire comedians for your show, they are the right fit for what you want from them as well as being funnyFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/scottscomedystuffPodcasts: https://standupyourhostandmc.buzzsprout.com https://comedyappeteasers.buzzsprout.combook: https://store.bookbaby.com/book/20-questions-answered-about-being-a-stand-up-comicNew site: StandupComedyPodcastNetwork.comMain Website: www.scottscomedystuff.com ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

How change can be successfully implemented within an organization. The steps established by John Kotter to help improve change efforts and avoid pitfalls that often lead to failure. In my organization, we often talk about how change is inevitable in this evolving world of business. The vision of change and understating how to create a sense of urgency can help in establishing a powerful coalition. This coalition requires a clear and concise vision. The communication of this effort will help empower the coalition and plan for short-term wins. Using those wins we can find improvement and perpetuate this change by documenting and solidifying the change. Many companies are facing extraordinary challenges that require flexibility and adaptability. Changing technologies, faster processes, and global business markets are helping to develop new and improved business strategies. In a dog-eat-dog world, it's either change or get left behind.“Life is change. If you aren't growing and evolving, you're standing still and the rest of the world is surging ahead” (Penny, 2008).Companies are responding to a barrage of threats and continue using archaic standardized processes. But what happens when the threat forces change or the standard process no longer works? A business must learn quickly and shift accordingly or face certain extinction. The question of how business is most effective in promoting change requires a simple approach to flexibility. The fundamental steps necessary for any business to make a change would be to focus on the exchanges between leaders and followers that deal with both aspects of transactional and transformational leadership styles. These exchanges must go beyond individual interests in pursuit of a shared vision. These leadership styles are not exclusive nor do leaders necessarily exhibit one more than the other. Depending on the situation, a leader may change and pivot to gain the most traction over the desired behavior (Lumen, 2017).In business, we find that change is inevitable. Change is the evolution of which companies continue to compete, succeed and perform at peak performance. Is all change good or do we just embrace the idea that we should transform regardless of need? In theory, flexibility and good business practices lean toward a successful transition. A seasoned company may practice certain skills favorable to change. Inevitably, we see businesses using a myriad of change techniques to improve manufacturing, inventory, accounting, sales, operations, procurement, information security or customer service. Processes can be turbulent within a company and use the correct approach to change requires business legerdemain. John Kotter is a leading professor and speaker dedicated to promulgating the efficiencies of successful change transformation and transitioning within an organization. The effectiveness of change within an organization can easily fail and steps can be taken to improve its success (Matsu**bleep**a, 2018). John Kotter focuses on 8 elements of change that contribute to boosting quality and improving the chance of success when implementing change (Kotter, 1996). Establishing a sense of change Forming a powerful coalition within the organization Creating and vision for change Communicating this vision effectively Empowering others on that vision Planning for short-term wins Consolidating and improving change to influence additional change Institutionalizing new approaches The now-retired John Kotter has established himself at the forefront for change management success using these steps.Establishing a Sense of ChangeIt has become common in business that people become complacent to immersing themselves in the very day, mundane routine of their job without thinking twice about how a change would affect their situation. Once companies being to look at their situation and begin to understand that change is inevitable and necessary to be competitive and improving revenue, they begin to take the necessary steps to change. The problem is that many change attempts run into barriers and are stifled by ignorance and surrendering to defeat. When looking at establishing a sense of urgency within an organization, it is imperative to draw attention to those areas where change is a necessary and foster change in perspective that will allow a majority of the organization to feel that change is necessary in order for it to be accepted. The proper steps necessary for succeeding in this first step is to look at the organization as a whole and look at the competition, and the realities endowed by the organization. This will help in identifying and discussing any possible situations that will arise and hone in on potential opportunities at present. This leads to establishing an important coalition for empowering your urgency of change (Kotter, 1996).Establishing a Powerful CoalitionWhen people look at change the idea of change is often met with resistance. This resistance often paralyzes middle and senior management and hinders the transformation process. A network of people within the organization capable of perpetuating the change idea can help to systemically move through each phase of the change process with more success. A top-down approach to assembling your idea for change begins at the top. It is imperative that the senior leaders and people at the top understand that this change is for the betterment of the organization and transforming this requires the support of leaders and managers of expertise. Once a guiding coalition has been established and the leaders and managers are on board with the idea for a change it is important to communicate this vision unambiguously (Kotter, 1996).Creating the VisionIt is difficult to see where you are going without a clear vision. The idea for business change is essentially the same if you are going to be successful in your transition. Without a clear understanding of which direction, the change is going, the picture of what the future would look like without the appropriate changes become myopic and relative to one's own perspective. Sharing this vision is essential in helping leaders and manager perpetuate a re-engineered change that will minimize the chance of failure. Clear concise and unambiguous communication with a systemic vision that can be explained in 5 minutes or less will evoke understanding and interest better than an elaborate and mind-numbing collection of information inundating any possibility of interest (Kotter, 1996).Communicating the VisionCommunication is essential in implanting change. With so many forms of communication and the digital age allowing more people to tap into more forms of communication, we have become lost in front of our computers and tend to avoid face to face contact. Communicating your vision is important to the success of the change. It is important that senior leaders and people who are part of the guiding coalition share the vision. You want to promote the understanding that the foundation for this change requires commitment at all levels of leadership and needs to be embraced in order to focus on the new direction for the organization. Using many forms of communication, in simple and laymen terms will help establish a two-way communication effort that both leaders, managers, and employees can understand in their daily operations and existing processes. Adding additional understanding can be met with stories, metaphors, and examples of compelling changes for the future while helping leadership align with the vision. Use every process and vehicle in your arsenal to perpetuate the continued vision and teach new behaviors through the guiding coalition. This will help managers who can influence employees feel empowered (Kotter, 1996).Empowering Others to Act on the VisionThe empowerment of employees is imperative to the success of preventing and stifling the implementation of change. Employees may understand that change is necessary to move forward with the vision of the organization, but without the proper tools or the necessary equipment to continue the vision of the organization, my unmotivated managers and employees to proceed with the change effort. Understanding that removing obstacles and utilizing all of the vehicles within your prevue will help prevent the unintentional stalling of change even before it beings. It is important to identify any possible barriers that would hinder the change process. This adjustment should include any processes, structures, procedures, and reward systems that would otherwise derail the change effort. It is important to identify behaviors, good or bad, that contribute to the change effort and act accordingly by providing positive re-enforcement and rewarding those that invest in the idea for the new vision. Empowerment will result in the implementation of change and will result in changes. Those short-term wins will help propel you to the next level (Kotter, 1996).Planning and Creating Short-Term WinsEstablishing short-term wins is important in perpetuating the change effort. Short term wins are a continued succession of what the change effort has brought to the organization. These improvements can be seen within 6 to 18 months and it is necessary to continue its momentum by keeping the stakeholders engaged. Identifying the processes and projects that are directly related to the change result in a clear understanding that the change is being effective. These wins can be identified by visible changes that coincide with something specifically being changed in the organization. For example, money savings, the reduction in process time, the additional revenue generate, are examples of specific change efforts that are directly related to the change effort. Identifying these short-term wins may require a reallocation of resources or personnel to continue the change effort and give the guiding coalition the authority to oversee these changes. Continually identify these wins and communicate those wins to senior leadership. We find that short-term wins can give an immediate understanding of the success the change is having and collecting these wins will allow you to implement additional change to further the change effort (Kotter, 1996).Consolidate Improvements and Producing Additional ChangeConsolidating these wins and gains of the change effort will help in implementing additional changes geared toward the change effort. These steps will help prevent the relapse of old behaviors or methods as well as reducing the complacency many have. Highlighting the short-term wins will help re-enforce the idea that the change is working. This will gain leverage for implementing additional changes and persuading leaders, managers, and stakeholders to commit to additional changes. This can help implement processes or procedures that have not become obsolete and removed through departments that may be obstructing or creating a bottleneck in the change effort. Solicit the help of lower-level managers to perpetuate the idea of change and assign lower-level managers to work with guiding coalition projects (Kotter, 1996). This will reassure the participation of lower-level managers and create buy-in for subject matter experts to participate in the change effort. Remove resistant managers who continue to obstruct (Watkins, 2016).Institutionalizing New ApproachesIt is important to document and anchor the change effort. Creating documents, operating instructions and easy to understand information to continue the change effort will solidify the new changes. Additionally, continuing the change effort through the alignment of supervisory operating instructions and using a promotion system to re-enforce the values of the change will help support the continued establishment for the change. This alignment of change and organizational processes will help in adjusting training and essential activates required to sustain the competencies associated with the change.SummaryIt is ultimately up to the individual organization to select the best approach to change. Understanding the steps necessary for a successful change effort can improve the chances for success within an organization. The implementation of change can be difficult. The need for change is evolving as business improves technology, and processes become more competitive. These steps are a giant leap forward in the preservation of changes necessary to gain that edge in an evolving business environment. Business is turbulent and requires leadership legerdemain. This co-existence of business change, technology, and competition is a continual process ultimately based on organization and vision.ReferencesKotter, J. P. (1996). Leading Change. After graduating college with a finance degree in hand, I set out to do what everyone always told me to do: Go to school, get good grades, get a good job and climb the corporate ladder for the next 40-50 years and then retire and enjoy life. So I did!Three years into that journey, I realized the cubicle life wasn't for me. Why do something I HATE for 40-50 years to then enjoy life when I'm 65-70 years old…that didn't sound like a good time to me. Especially when I realized that the corner office wasn't so sexy after all. So I quit…and started my first real business. Two years in, I was having great success: I loved what I was doing, I was my own boss and we were growing like crazy! The downside? I was working 60-80 hours per week, doing everything, and realized that it wasn't sustainable forever. The demand was there but I literally couldn't do any more physically or mentally. After taking a few steps back, I realized that if something ever happens to me, my business would go to zero quickly.Long story short, by leveraging the power of systems & process in order to empower staff and create the best customer experience in the industry, I was able to double my business while cutting the hours I worked in half. In four short years of owning my business, I was able to go from $0 to $500k. I had achieved the freedom that I was looking for.One to never sit still, I sold the business for 3x net profit and I was ready for the next opportunity.Which brings us here today. I am now a coach and advocate for YOU, the small business owner. You started your business to MAKE MORE, not less, WORK LESS, not more, and to have MORE FREEDOM, not less! Unfortunately, it doesn't always work out that way. But it's no need to get discouraged. If it was easy, everyone would do it.My Promise to You: To make sure you have all of the tools you need to make more, work less, and build a valuable business that no longer needs YOU to survive. After all, if your business needs you to survive, it's actually not a business at all. It's simply a very STRESSFUL J-O-B. I made every mistake along the way but came out on the other side with a proven process that works…for any business!PAUL@PAULMASKILL.COMPAULMASKILL.COM919-889-5534FACEBOOK: @BUSINESSFREEDOMFORMULAIN: IN/PAULMASKILLINSTAGRAM: @PAUL_MASKILL ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

Event planning can be a daunting task and knowing how to pull off a successful event can be even more difficult. What does someone need to start their own event to showcase their product or service and how do you start an event planning service? Essential questions are who are you going to target? What is going to be your startup cost? Who is going to run the operations and financials for the event? Lastly, you will need to know the marketing and resources available to get your event promoted. For many people, event planning is often left to the professionals. It takes a lot of work and can be overwhelming at times. An inexperienced planner will have all kinds of questions about the type of event, what kind of people are we targeting, and what are we going to talk about. Speakers, educators, promoters, sponsors, oh my! This can be exhausting just listing them; however, it isn't an impossible task for you. With the right planning and research, you can pull this off yourself and showcase your successful product or service. Target The Right Market Why is targeting so important? The target is important because it allows you to hone in on what might be the most prolific. You wouldn't invite techies to an event with no tech equipment. Decide whether or not it's going to be a corporate or social event. Knowing the type of event will keep people who might be interested in your product or service engaged and interested. Know Your Startup Cost Knowing your startup cost is important because it gives you some insight into how successful your event was and prepares you for some unexpected situations. Some things to consider are the venue rent, the equipment you will need, inventory of your product, licenses or taxes, communication, advertising and promotion, attorneys, and insurance. Operations Research is the best way to mitigate risk. It is important to do your homework. Consider the time you have to plan and know that the bigger the event, the more time you will need to plan. About SherrieAs a strategic event planner with 15-years of experience, I help clients realize their potential for success and create live events to grow their brand while bringing profit to their business that continues long after the event. In this time of great need, I realized I had an obligation to help as many businesses use this time wisely to strategize and plan an experience their industry will seek out first and attend. The starting point of my event planning career began with Bill Glazer and Glazer-Kennedy Insider's Circle™, as Bill's Executive Assistant, where I quickly took on the additional role of Event Manager and Planner. With the blessing of working side by side with Bill and listening to the top Marketing Experts on stage for over 7 years, I learned a lot of marketing tips, strategies, business planning and so much more. Through determination and hard work, I learned quickly what it took to run smooth, successful and profitable events to get where I am today as the owner SLS Event Planning and Consulting where I have helped over 50+ clients since 2012 create prosperous and effective live events that help grow their own businesses while building their brand.Sherrie SokolowskiSLS Event Planning and Consulting1144 Meachem DriveClarksville, TN 37042Phone and Text: 410-294-5404Skype: sherrie.sokolowski-slseventsFax: 717-641-0333www.slseventplanning.com Like us on Facebook Please Subscribe to My YouTube Channel ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★
POST WRITTEN BYBrad FlowersFounding partner at Bullhorn, overseeing all the good work.Let's face it: Even if your company has a bad name, the easiest thing to do is nothing. Simply do not rename the company. In fact, there is a track record of companies with bad names doing very well. Consider Microsoft. They have had success despite a name that could be interpreted to mean small and weak. (Well, "soft" doesn't exactly mean weak, but it certainly doesn't say international corporate giant either.)If you are going through the trouble to start a company or launch a product, you probably aren't the sort to just pick something out of a hat. And while a bad name can be overcome, a good name is an asset. There are plenty of high-profile and costly renames to suggest their value. Esso to Exxon. Datsun to Nissan and back (in some places). Andersen to Accenture. Philip Morris to Altria. All done for different reasons and to varying degrees of success. Here are five and a half considerations when questioning whether to rename your company. Are you limiting business opportunities? In some industries, it makes sense to name the company after yourself. You are in a high-trust business and your clients trust you, so you make the closest connection you can. That rationale has its limits. As a wealth management company, you can grow by adding new clients or you can grow by hiring managers who have their own books of business.Boardman Financial wanted to grow by attracting great partners. In order to do that, the company needed a more aspirational name that reflected the whole team and not just one person. The core of the team's culture is sitting with people and helping them navigate the ups and downs of their life. We used this navigation image to arrive at the name Ballast, meaning the counterbalance that provides stability in a long voyage. Are you limiting recruitment? For third-party logistics, recruitment is the name of the game. If you can't get a steady stream of 21-year-old go-getters, you won't be competitive. And this crew is competitive. Our client was called Quality Logistics, which was understandably confused with Total Quality Logistics and Quality Logistics Solutions – all different companies. Most clients have the primary goal of getting more business, but in this case, the only thing they cared about was attracting talent. Their name confusion lumped them in with companies that had reputations of churning through employees; we strategically distanced them from the industry, renaming the company as Longship. The name has roots in Norse mythology and navigation. The end result speaks to teamwork, journeys, and pulling in the same direction. Longship is a driven group of people working toward a clear goal. Are you limiting your vision? The landscaping industry isn't the place you normally find great naming. The companies are usually named after the founder, named very literally, or feature a bad pun. Our client was called Great Lawns, which was a great name for a company owned by a couple of teenagers with a pick-up and a couple of mowers. But as the owners got older, their vision expanded beyond residential maintenance. They were working for some of the largest companies in their region. They were designing and installing large projects that didn't have anything to do with lawn care; they were creating spaces where people found peace. The company became a Plot, as many people's favorite stories include a special outdoor place. Is your name misleading?DMD Data Systems was founded 25 years ago. The founder had a business idea (IT solutions for mid- to large-size companies) but hadn't thought through any names. So the founder did what many people would do and used his initials – which ended up confusing potential customers. Despite featuring "DMD" in its name, the company didn't do anything in the dental industry. It doesn't have a single doctor or medicine in dentistry on staff. The company engaged us to help them transition from something that doesn't accurately represent their company to a name the positions them for the future of their company. The new name of the company is Volta Technologies, which looks back to the inventor of the battery, Alessandro Volta. Are you going through a change in leadership/core offering? When most people think about pain management, they might think about pill mills and desperation. A client named Pain Management Medicine approached us hoping to address this problem. They became doctors to help people and ended up managing addictions. A new generation was taking over the practice and had a vision for a new treatment offering that gets to the root of the problem and helps the patient return to a healthy life. They created a multidisciplinary destination clinic that we named Wellward – a place of hope.Do you just not like it?This is the "half" in five and a half because it isn't really a consideration. Do you just hate the name? Do you just dread saying it, typing it out? Get rid of it. It is your company and you should love the name. It will only get harder and more complicated the longer you put it off. Rip off the Band-Aid.Whether you are starting a new company, renaming a successful one, or launching a product, you have a lot to consider. Think about these questions. Get your goals straight and then go forth with confidence. That is the main trick in a name. Can it be said confidently? Remember, the name is not the company. The name is just the signifier of the company. It represents the cool stuff you are already doing.Brad FlowersFounding partner at Bullhorn, overseeing all the good work.InstagramFacebookLinkedIn ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★
8 Simple Steps to Catapult Your Business on Instagram (feat. Nicka Wolny)The power of Instagram in promoting your business is huge. Many people will find you on Instagram because a majority of people use their mobile phones. Instagram grew up on mobile phones, so the ubiquity of mobile phones gives you the opportunity to share your content with potential customers. Why would someone use a platform like Instagram for business? Isn't it for adolescent selfie-taking kids showing off their locations? Instagram has grown into much more than just selfies and photo sharing. The average business owner on Instagram stands to join thousands of businesses who are promoting products and services. More than 40 percent of all U.S. companies with more than 100 employees are utilizing Instagram. According to Hootsuite engagement on Instagram is 10 times higher than Facebook and 54 times higher than Pinterest and 84 times higher than Twitter. Steps to Building Your Business on Instagram 1. Know Your Audience2. Great Content3. Focus on You4. Have a Consistent Theme5. Post Regularly6. Use Live Streaming7. Optimize with Hashtags8. Promote Your IG ProfileKnow Your AudienceKnowing your audience is paramount in establishing a niche and pinpointing your market's needs. If you are a carpet cleaning business you will want to ask yourself, what type of carpet cleaning will you focus on? Will you be doing commercial, residential? If you are doing commercial are you going to be doing buildings, theaters, small businesses? If you are doing residential, will you be doing small houses, large houses, houses with pets, mobile homes, local or statewide? The more specific you can get the better your chances for success and the easier it will be to build or scale your business.Great ContentKnow the content you want to produce and try to make it look and sound as good as possible. The better the content the more likely people will find you credible and worth looking at. Your decision to use colors, filters, images, or videos is up to you. If you create something, make sure that it coincides with your audience. Take your time when producing content. Sometimes the more thought out content tends to be the best. Be reasonable with how much time you want to put into your content and if you find that there is some benefit to taking more time than others that do what makes the most sense. Consider your resources and utilize them to the best of your abilities. Focus on YouMany businesses will look at others and try to copy them. They are worried that they don't have enough followers, and how is it that they have so many and we don't. What are they doing that we are not doing and how can we do what they are doing? Focus on you and your business. Keep producing great content that works for your business and does not worry so much about what others are doing. If you remain consistent with your content you will start to see changes in your following and maybe even featured on others. Have A Consistent ThemeOnce you have your profile set up and you are working on your content you want to make sure that your content is consistent. Your theme could be anything from headshots to consulting but keep the theme the same. Do not start talking about headshots and detract with how the government doesn't do enough. Keeping the theme consistent corroborates your expertise in your niche market. Post RegularlyNow that you have your audience, great content focused on your business, and a great theme, you want to maintain regular posts. This will keep your profile fresh and lets people who are following you know that you are not only consistent with your posts but with your business as well. There can be situations where followers will leave if there isn't consistent content.Use Live StreamingUsing live streaming usually puts you at the top of the list and allows for people who are not following you to view your feed. This is similar to Facebook Live and YouTube Live. Instagram Live allows you to interact with your audience to help with branding and finding potential clients. With just over 700 million users, this is an opportunity to engage with followers and meet people from around the world. Optimize Your Post with HashtagsWhat are hashtags? Hashtags are what Instagram uses to hone in on your industry. So if you are a photographer, you can use #photography to find new clients or showcase your work. You can get even more specific by using the hashtag #headshotphotography or #headshotphoto. These niche hashtags allow the business to niche their hashtags for the right audience. Location hashtags are important as well. Let us say you are in a city or town where you want to showcase your work. Using a hashtag that represents your town or city may provide opportunities to find new clients or be discovered. This also falls in line with events, or holidays. Use https://all-hashtag.com/ to find some great hashtags to use in promoting your business.Promote Your Instagram ProfilePromoting your Instagram profile is important because it gives you additional visibility. Whether you are paying for it or just adding them to your business cards, giving people the opportunity to stay in content with you is a powerful tool when selling or promoting your products or service. There approximately 15 million business profiles on Instagram and advertising on Instagram is an option for companies that can afford it. This often helps your business grow in exposure and generate traffic to your website. Just to give you some perspective, approximately 60 percent of people discover new products and 75 percent take action after being inspired by a post. How did CBD become a billion-dollar industry? Because it is sexy! Many people in the industry will tell you that this is new to the mainstream and is leading in the therapeutic and health market. From oils to edibles, and topicals to tinctures, CBD is quickly ascending to an estimated 24 billion dollars by 2024. What is CBD?If you were like me, I thought that CBD was only sold in states where THC was legal. THC or tetrahydrocannabinol is what gives people the intoxicating effect when consumed. CBD, on the other hand, does not produce an intoxicating effect, instead, it is often used to treat many ailments from arthritis to PTSD. The type of products available for CBD and how they are used Sublingual Tinctures CBD Edibles Vape Concentrates CBD Topicals Sublingual tinctures come in a bottle that usually has a small dropper. It is measured out and is ingested orally by placing the measured amount under the tongue and allowing it to absorb. The CBD Edibles are generally recognized in candies such as gummy bears and gummy worms. These candies are familiar to many people and the CBD industry manufactures these gummies in many forms, sizes, and shapes. Because of the taste and convenience of gummies, they are quickly becoming popular. Vape concentrates are used with vaporizer equipment consistent with e-cigarettes or electronic devices to vaporize and inhale the CBD oil. CBD topicals are consistent with most topical gels, creams or even sprays to use in specific areas for arthritis, pain, skin, or any localized area of the body. How to start a CBD BusinessStarting a CBD company is much like starting any other company, however, there are more regulatory hoops to jump through. There are continual changes in regulation that often create bottlenecks in the process, but once started, it is certain that the growth is worth it in the end. Key Takeaways Know the part of the industry you want to tap into Ask yourself why you want to do this What is your motivation? Some of the challenges you might face when starting your CBD business Banking Insurance Payment Processing Access to capital There may be some difficulty in accessing a reliable banking service if you are starting a CBD business because of the vicissitudes for regulation. There is an element of risk and fear with banks who have already experienced closures from previous customers. Insurance can be expensive. Because of the industry, prices remain high and the legalization of this market is continually changing. Payment processing can be significantly higher, and some merchants have sworn off CBD stores and merchants altogether. Finding an acceptable merchant processing continually changes. Access to capital from banks and investors can be difficult as many of the CBD companies are perceived as risky and many CBD companies typically bootstrap and find alternative investment opportunities once there has been some revenue. CBD is one of the fastest-growing industries in the nation. CBD, although regulated, can be prolific with some creativity and forethought. Bonus Information5 Things To Do Before Breakfast To Drive Your Success As A LeaderBy Heneka Watkis PorterAccording to author Tony Robbins, “People who succeed have momentum. The more they succeed, the more they want to succeed, and the more they find a way to succeed. Similarly, when someone is failing, the tendency is to get on a downward spiral that can even become a self-fulfilling prophecy.”Success is the accomplishment of a predetermined goal or mission. It is personal to you, whatever you determine it to be.All leaders want to be successful, but how do we get there? It turns out, routines play a big part. The sequences of habitual actions have many benefits including saving time, building momentum and the development of strong willpower, without which we can forget about having any form of victory. The way in which we start our day determines its trajectory. Here are five things I do to start the day that has helped me be successful as an entrepreneur (and no, checking my phone isn't one of them). Use these tips to develop a routine, and you will be sure to gather that momentum Tony Robbins speaks of.1. Drink water—a lot of it. The adult body is made up of approximately 55-60 percent water. The chemical reactions in the body's cells that turn food into energy depend on it. Not only is it required for metabolism, but also for digestion. All that to say, you need water to function effectively. Drinking water in the morning allows for the body to rehydrate after losing lots of fluids overnight. A rehydrated body is better poised to facilitate successful actions.2. Write. There are many benefits to writing. When you write, your memory improves, you are less anxious and you think more clearly (in other words, we can significantly cut our therapy bill by practicing this). By clearing our minds, we can set the tone for the day ahead and remind ourselves of the goals we aim to achieve.3. Develop a practice to hear from within. This can be done by either praying, meditating or simply being still. In the busyness of our days, we can miss hearing that voice that directs us down the path we must go. Part of winning for an entrepreneur and leader means being able to make sound business decisions. Successful entrepreneurs use tools to help them listen and get guidance from their internal compass.4. Work on your priorities. What is important to you right now? Think about how you are going to approach what's significant to you when your mind is still fresh from having a good night's sleep. A fully recharged mind is in the best mindset for making decisions that are aligned to what you value most.5. Express gratitude. There is a very simple yet powerful song called Toast by Jamaican artist Koffee that has been taking the world by storm. In it, Koffee emphasizes, “Gratitude is a must.” While the song's rhythm is great, the words contribute a lot to its popularity. On a few occasions, I have had podcast guests share on this necessary, but often overlooked, concept of expressing gratitude. For example, Lisa Ryan believes in this principle so much she has coined her own term on which she bases her strategies, “grategy.” Simply saying aloud what you are grateful for before getting out of bed does wonders for you. Further, having a gratitude journal and writing in it before you have had your first meal, can be a critical part of your success journey. What do you do each morning that contributes to your success? GarzaIn business, we find that change is inevitable. Change is the evolution of which companies continue to compete, succeed and perform at peak performance. Is all change good or do we just embrace the idea that we should transform regardless of need? In theory, flexibility and good leadership practices lean toward a successful transition. A seasoned leader may find a path forward by practicing certain skills favorable to change. Inevitably, we see leaders practice transactional and or transformational leadership when necessary. Business is a turbulent environment that requires leadership legerdemain. This co-existence of transactional and transformational characteristics is a continual process based on organization and vision.Transactional LeadershipThe concept of transactional leadership is not new (Burns, 1978). The concept was mentioned in 1981 by Bernard Bass on the principle that it coincides primarily with the manager's views (Bass, 2008). The transactional concept focuses on organizational goals and the connection to effort and reward. These responsive characteristics hone in on personal and basic human needs by appealing to the follower's self-interests (Maslow, 2014). Rewards and punishment are contingent on performance. In exchange for the transactional leader's performance objectives, the follower may concede that a job well done will be rewarded. This contract between leader and follower will be honored extrinsically. The transactional leader will actively or passively manage and monitor progress according to standards while taking corrective action when necessary to obviate errors. It is often assumed that this form of leadership is consistent with unmotivated employees that are walking the preverbal line only to maintain their existence in an environment of supervisors micromanaging every process. The transactional leader may focus on short term goals, standard rules, and procedures that often create a circumscribed approach that minimizes the creativity and generation of innovative ideas (P C Tripathi, 2006, p. 112). Transactional leadership can be perceived in many ways, the autocrat, stickler, goal setter or the one that shouts bonus. The AutocratThe military has been using many styles of leadership throughout its existence. Autocratic leadership in the military can be easily associated with the idea of: I give the orders and you follow through or I know the mission and what the organizational goals are so while I'm in charge this is how it's going to be. In return, the follower will gain the necessary experience or the adoration of his superiors (Bieda, 1978). With most military organizations, the leader will focus on managing the performance of individuals and the performance in a structured environment (Spahr, 2016). If you consider the analogy of military in Garrison over a deployment location; one may be more inclined to function under a transactional style of leadership whereas during a wartime situation requires leaders at all levels. No one person has successfully managed people into war, they must be led (Kotter, 2001).The Box ApproachTransactional leaders will reward followers with basic human needs. This tacit agreement between leaders and followers lends itself to the necessary goals and measurable standards of which to abide and in doing so are rewarded or punished. Understanding the needs of what followers want can help leaders reinforce subordinates for the successful completion of processes. Many CEOs that utilize the Box Approach have an understanding that value comes from communicating the goals of the organization in a clear and concise manner that will allow for controls i.e. financial, culture, or both to ensure that uniformity and predictability become standard behavior. Leaders of the Box Approach subscribe to the idea that policies and procedures are developed to reinforce desired behaviors (Farkas & Wetlaufer, 1996).The Goal-SetterThe necessary steps to accomplish a task or move toward the vision of an organization is not always clear. A simple request to establish a budget or increase customer satisfaction may not be as straight forward as one might think. This usually raises more questions than answers. People are good at many things, but reading minds is not one of them. The goal setter is meticulously establishing short term goals that include the necessary steps to accomplish that goal from their team. Where do we get data, why do we need to coordinate, which managers will be involved, when will this happen or who will take control of each project? The goal setter will be creating goals that teams will be able to accomplish and not figure out for themselves. They will not leave it to chance and will spell out the specific details for what needs to get done, systemically. The goal setter will not be vague. Often goals will be met with omitted details, but planning is essential in creating an explicit and motivational link that will evoke the desired behavior to produce (Halvorson, 2014).The Quid Pro QuoWhat motivates? Motivation is personal and is individualized. What motivates one may not motivate another. People wake up in the morning and have a passion for something in their lives that usually gives them the fuel they need to start their day. When asked what drives you, is the answer obvious? Many would jump to the idea that money is the primary motivator and that people would have fewer problems if they just had a lot of it. Leaders will find a balance of what motivates and allow people to fulfill those extrinsic needs through by way of reward.Transformational LeadershipThe Transformational leader is a formula for change and synonymous with the charismatic leader. The nomenclature alone connotes change. This connotation has some thinking that this is the most effective form of leadership for change. Leaders who are considered transformational arouse emotion in their followers which in turn motivates followers to move passed the preverbal circumscriptions of manuals and standard operating procedures. They enlist people in their ideas and provide the framework to think outside the box, to be proactive and distinguish themselves as moving past organizational goals and beyond self-interest (Nikezic, 2010). James M. Burn was first to introduce the transformational connection between leader and follower. James Burns and Bernard Bass define transformational leadership as someone who evokes commitment toward an organizational goal with the sole intention of transforming the central mission. Transformational leadership has evolved toward the exploration of characteristics that move beyond the standard and emphasize individual consideration, intellectual stimulation, charisma, and vision, (Burns, 1978; Bass, 2008)The MentorTransformational leaders are showing individual consideration when spending time with followers: teaching and coaching. The result is the promotion of self-development. When leaders begin to treat people as individuals rather than group members; it elicits desire and aspirations (Atwater & Yammarino, 1993). The mentor can change their environment to promote growth and productivity. What the mentor must take into consideration are the many personalities they sometimes face. Provided that the mentor can recognize subtle signs in personality, the focus can be to address each with a unique approach (F.R., 2014).“Successful people are always looking for opportunities to help others. Unsuccessful people are always asking, what's in it for me” (Tracy, 2012)?The InnovatorWhen asked to deliver the ideal leader, many would argue that traits such as intelligence, emotional stability, self-confidence, resolve and vision all come standard. While intellectual ability is directly correlated with leadership, practical intelligence or coping styles conducive to promoting effective social and work relationships seem to be a concept relevant to leadership. Although some have taken steps toward focusing on the analytical and technical skills of a leader, the minimum requirement for success only needs emotional intelligence as the key characteristic to differentiate an outstanding performer from the norm (Goleman, 2004). Driving results in business is a continued research process. The innovator is looking to advance their cause by using the latest and greatest information, technology or process. The MagicCharisma by definition is the magic, the Je Ne Sais Quoi of personality traits that form an unspoken understanding between leader and follower (Merriam-Webster, 2017). The charismatic leader will arouse loyalty and enthusiasm that enlists people through conviction and commitment to their cause. Charismatic leaders are committed to their cause and project their transformational style to make what would be considered ordinary into extraordinary. The magic happens when the charismatic leader dedicates their cause to positive change. Charisma is considered to be an inveterate trait with most natural leaders and a necessary characteristic for many leadership roles. Recognized by many as the most sought after trait, it is often imitated and rarely duplicated. It is either something you have or something you don't. Many people argue that this is a behavioral type of character and can be learned, but others maintain you are born with it (Spahr, Charismatic Leadership, 2016).The VisionaryEffective leadership will evoke change. When a leader inspires, movement follows. Inspiration promotes a synergy toward service for something greater than self. Inspiration involves a continued understanding of shared meaning and challenges for those followers (Nikezic, 2010).ReferencesAtwater, L. E., & Yammarino, F. J. (1993). Sales are one of the most important parts of your business. Without sales, you don't generate revenue. This is true for any business you may have. You might be thinking that you are a service-based business or you are the only employee, why do you need sales. They will just come to me once I open the doors for my business, right? Wrong! You have to get out there and grind. You have to get out there and start getting people in the door. There are many ways to generate leads and advertise, but once you get that lead you have to sell your product or service. Knowing how to close the deal is important in scheduling that appointment, mailing out that product or contracting that deal. Do Your Reps! The more you sell the better you get. How do you get better you may ask yourself? A good example is when you start with a basic script. You have your elevator pitch down and when you talk to a potential customer you can identify who you are what you do and how you can help them. As you go through your script you will receive rebuttals, questions and concerns that need to be responded, answered and met with how your product or service is going to fix this pain. The more you do it, the more you say your elevator pitch the better you get and the better you start to understand your customers. When you start talking to people you begin to understand where the market is going. After talking to 100 people you start to understand where your niche really is and where customers want to go with your product or service. You will have your finger on the pulse.3 OF THE MOST POWERFUL SALES TECHNIQUESPain in the MarketOne of the more difficult things to do in business is identifying the pain in marketing. When a company can identify the pain in the market, its ability to rectify this and present this to customers as a solution becomes very attractive. Continually looking for resolutions for the pain in the market could include asking questions, market research and finding out what impact it's having on customers. Fear of LossOne of the more important aspects of sales is when you hear 10 days only or you will lose out on this amazing deal. The fear of loss becomes consistent with something inveterate in all of us. Loss is a large component in the sales industry and by limiting accessibility or interjecting competition into the conversation, the thought of loss could be overwhelming. This house will not be on the market for long, we have had three other people looking at it and have all mentioned that they will be putting in a bid. You need to get in on this house before someone takes it from you. You deserve this house. Address ConcernsAddress the concerns of the customer. If a customer says that it is too expensive, your response could be something like, if we are to show that there is value and make it to where it is affordable is that fair? How you address the concern is up to you, but if the potential customer is concerned about the price, address that with meeting or coming close and asking once this objection or concern is met, would there be anything stopping you from moving forward with the purchase? http://www.anthonypgarcia.com/ ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

Starting a barbershop can set you back quite a bit of money, but if you plan right you may be able to start with minimal capital. The idea of starting with minimal capital will require extensive planning, knowing your target market and how much money you will need to bring in to break even. For many barbershop startups, you can easily start with 100 to 200 thousand dollars, but David started by saving money for his vision with only 8,000. He has grown his business and now has five other barbers working at his shop. Have a PlanStart with a plan. David is an avid reader of the bible, and he mentions that planning is essential in mapping out your specific goals. Know how much money you are investing in and how much money you are going to need to sustain your business. This can give you a good indication of your target market. Target Market AnalysisUnderstanding who your customer is can make or break your business. Research demographics, population, and look at prolific barbershops and how they are making money. You could for example search for adult males in the area. Culture and ethnicity could play a role in how you market your business. Obtaining PermitsRemember that there is always going to be regulation and licenses that are required prior to opening up your store. Your permits may require you to have local and state requirements. Many states require a license and local governments may have city ordinances that need to be followed. Branding Yourself There are three main areas of focus for South Town Barbers. Starting a business is challenging enough but starting a videography business requires some key components to building a business. First, we need to start a portfolio. Have a name, website and if you don't have any equipment. Find a company that will rent it to you. If you have the equipment, just use what you have and work from there. Have some lighting and utilize your resources. Building a portfolioVideo has become a central part of many areas of the digital world. Professional quality videography has become ubiquitous in social media, advertising and business. Building a portfolio is essential in standing out from the crowd. How do you build your portfolio? Practice, practice, practice! Initially keeping your videos short and to the point so that you can showcase your best work. Customize your portfolio to utilize categories and essential areas of your niche market. Get creative and put together a myriad of clips that might showcase all of a category in one clip. Create a Business NameLooking for a name can be easy for some, but one thing to consider is when you are naming your business is trying to add the business name that many people on the internet are searching for. A good keyword in your domain will get you a lot of free exposure and may save you money when you begin to optimize your website. Building your WebsiteWhen building your website make sure that you utilize keywords that are relevant to your business. Creating content online is not just for video. You want to make sure that you are telling a story in the verbiage that you use on your website. Make sure that all the content on your website is relevant information and it coincides with your phraseology. Rental EquipmentMany people starting out don't have the means to purchase an expensive video camera. If you are using a DSLR or some form of camera equipment, you will have limits to what you can produce but doable. Consider renting equipment from your local camera shop to get higher-paying jobs. Utilize your ResourcesEssentially you can work with what you have. If you have something that will create videos, then you are ahead of the game. Mike VolkinHave you ever heard that red makes you stop, blue is soothing or black is luxurious? If you have then this is due to neuromarketing? Companies have been using neuromarketing to elicit responses and behaviors from customers for some time now. Neuromarketing can be defined as the science of understanding the decision-making mechanisms of a customer and their behaviors. The way certain customers respond to marketing stimuli differs according to your approach, but one of the more difficult tasks is presenting colors, literature or shapes that evoke the kind of behavior necessary to improve business. Image by Ashutosh SonwaniEye MovementMost recently, the ability to know where eyes are focusing first when looking at an ad can be attributed to eye-tracking technology. Eye-tracking technology can identify where the customer will hone in on key messages, product advertisements or how the customer moves chronologically to help with branding or package design. NeuroimagingThe packaging is important in creating and attracting customers. Companies like Campbell's and Frito Lay consistently apply neuroimaging to create packaging that has been recorded as positive. The results from neuroimaging are followed up with feedback on color, text, and images. Companies have been able to utilize neuromarketing for effective marketing strategies. Photo by Britta JacksonColor EffectivenessWe have often heard that certain colors evoke a wide range of customer emotions. Experienced marketers will use colors to elicit anger, hunger or calm. Color in advertising has been an effective marketing tool used by large companies like Coca Cola with their red can. Companies have also been able to split the colors to create subgroups such as cool blues for professional looks. Photo by Sharon McCutcheon The Decision to DecideMany customers are inundated with decisions. Companies like Clickfunnels have made it possible to limit the decision making process to specifics. Sometimes less is more and providing too much information to the customer will create an overwhelming effect. In many cases, the customer will get frustrated and not decide. This is called the decision paralysis.About Mike VolkinMike is a serial entrepreneur, speaker, trainer, Army veteran, and author of 5 books (one bestseller). He has built and sold 4 companies. What is Budget Photography? For many aspiring photographers, the idea of using used or older equipment may seem to limit their photography, however with the right technique, you can deliver photography that competes with top photographers in the industry. The idea of spending a lot of money on equipment certainly brings the perception that your photos will be better, however many photographers in the industry have not even upgraded because they are consistently getting quality photography from older cameras. You don't need the latest and greatest photography equipment to produce stunning photos. With practice and knowledge, you can take your budget-conscious equipment to produce photos many would envy. Consider buying used equipment, become proficient in the equipment you have, and get out and practice.Buying Used Equipment to Start Your Photography BusinessPhotography is an expensive business. One camera and one lens can set you back thousands of dollars. If you include the top of the line or flagship camera and you could spend nearly five thousand dollars or more on just one camera and one lens. For many aspiring photographers, starting out is a challenge because you have not even built up a reputation of being a photographer or even a trusted one. People put a lot of trust in their photographer. For some customers, there is only one shot at getting it right and knowing that they can trust their photographer in an important decision-making factor. So a photographer starting out may choose to buy a Nikon D850 or you can buy a Nikon D810 which is about two thousand dollars less. Some of the DX cameras can produce some high-quality photos for the more budget-conscious photographer. The D7500 has a crop sensor and works well with many lighting systems on the market. The D7500 is a semipro crop sensor camera that can be purchased for just under eight hundred dollars. Many used or refurbished D7500s can be purchased for as little as six hundred. An ideal lens for portraits is the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 AF-S VRII is an excellent choice. This older lens can be purchased for as low as one thousand to thirteen hundred dollars. This lens allows photographers to widen up a frame to 70mm or zoom in to 200mm to completely blur out the background at f/2.8. Essentially you can start your business with a used D810 and Used 70-200mm.Lighting Your SubjectWhile cameras and lenses can be expensive, so can lighting. Being able to properly use light for headshots or portraits can be instrumental in creating images that set you apart from everyone else. A Nikon SB-800 TTL AF Shoe Mount Speedlight can be used to create some amazing photos for less than one hundred dollars. How many do you need? Some photographers will say that they can use one Speedlight, but an ideal option would be using two. One as a primary and one as a rim light. You could probably use a reflector to highlight as needed.Become Proficient at Your CraftUsing your equipment regularly makes you a better photographer. Fulltime MusicianWhat do you have to do to break into the country music industry? Whether you are experienced or not you should take some steps to break into the industry. Understand that your decision to go into the music business has its challenges but it is even more difficult if you are doing something else like a second job or going to school. By making the decision to focus music one would be able to feel a sense of urgency and commitment consistent with losing a job. By doing music full time, you are now obligated to make something of your career as a musician. Many people are looking to break into the industry, but few people know-how. Seek a MentorIt is important to take advice or start out with people who are experts in the industry. Heading into the country music industry, many musicians will attempt to take advice from anyone willing to give it and that's not a wise decision, especially from people who are not experts in growing a successful business. Network with people who are familiar with building a business or have achieved a level of success in the industry commensurate to where you want to be. Even if they have achieved a level you seek to surpass. Supplement Your IncomeFor many people working in the music industry, they will choose to have a secure or safe place for income. This may hinder your progress as a musician as this often keeps a person complacent and shackled to their security blanket job. Leaving a job that pays can be a difficult decision, but the decision to leave can help you utilize the most productive time of the day and will allow you to balance your business and family time equally. A good way to supplement your income could be teaching lessons for your instrument. This will allow you to dictate your time more efficiently and give you opportunities to focus your time on your music when you have the best chances for creativity. Is a Music Degree Necessary? Many musicians will go to school to get a music degree. This could be difficult while building a career in music. If you are going to school for business, then this may be more beneficial for you to build a business. Degrees in music will help in composition and prepare you to play your instrument more efficiently, but the degree will do very little for you for landing record deals or gigs. It is important for a musician to seek out an experienced musician. Someone who has already tied the knots greased the wheels and built their business. If you can find someone willing to take you under their wing, it would be a good opportunity to learn something very quickly from someone who has already built their business. Using Social Media to PromoteSocial media is an important part of building your business. Just like most entrepreneurs building a business, building a music business is exactly the same. Using your gigs and scheduling them regularly is an important way to gain followers and keep them apprised of your scheduled gigs. For many people starting out, you will find that you get a lot of support and people will push you to do better. They will support you by going to your gigs and spreading the word.Try and avoid the guesswork of the music industry you are entering by doing your research. Figure out the politics, cost, entrant threats and educate yourself on how the business works. This will improve your chances of success and avoid any pitfalls before they become mistakes you cannot come back from. https://www.facebook.com/LaurenCorzine/http://thecreativeentrepreneur.net/index.php/2019/12/26/the-business-of-country-music/http://tcepodcast.net ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★
In this episode, we talk to TJ Neal for some insight into how he has built his photography business. We talk about how to avoid procrastination, the perfectionist syndrome, and building leads from existing customers. Avoiding procrastination is a daily challenge for many people. Recognizing the challenge is the first step. Organization can be crucial in setting up your tasks for the day and identifying your priorities. Set up simple achievable goals and move towards them. The task doesn't have to be daunting. Take small bites toward's your goal by creating a timeline or schedule and set a deadline. Avoid any distractions, take your time and find some incentives. Last reward yourself for accomplishing your task. The perfectionist syndrome is known by many starting a business or task for the first time. The website has to be perfect, the letterhead needs to look perfect and of course, the office and logo need to be perfect before we start making those essential phone calls. Building leads from existing customers can lead to a prolific business. Calling customers that are familiar with your work and asking them to kindly provide some people that might be wanting your product or service has a powerful effect on the referral on the other line. If the person referring you has any credibility, they will be a powerful asset for your referral. Kristopher Lopez is a San Antonio born entrepreneur currently serving in the military. He started his business early on his career on the advice from one of his mentors. He advised him to buy a house every place he went and invest his money in real estate. Unlike many people who might blow this off as just crazy talk, he took the advice and ran with it. Everywhere he went, he purchased a home. Once he came closer to retirement from the military, he decided to turn it into a business. Now, instead of owning five homes, he now owns over thirty-seven luxury homes. His partner company now works with him on renting to individuals seeking to stay in luxury homes with all the amenities of a 5-star hotel. They offer room service, concierge, food, guides and much more. What sets L2BNB apart is its focus on additional amenities not offered by the ABNB stay. Right now, they have homes in Miami, Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas. With deluxe accommodations, customers are offered an upscale home without the overpriced hotel requirement. Housekeeping, grocery setup, and vacation planning are all just a few of the services provided when staying at L2BNB. Kristopher goes over his ability to turn his passion for real estate into a viable business by partnering up with a multibillion-dollar company. Kristopher goes over some advice for entrepreneurs wanting to start a real estate company and helps us understand what it takes to be successful, such as, market analysis, preparing financially, physically and emotionally. Knowledge is power and knowing who's a good partner, where to look and when to purchase a home in a turbulent market. http://www.l2bnb.comhttps://www.facebook.com/L2BNBListings/https://amzn.to/35d1Gwahttps://amzn.to/2r9zwDC ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★
