Benoit Blanc is back — but not in the way you might expect. In this episode, we dig into Wake Up Dead Man, the third entry in Rian Johnson's Knives Out series, and quickly realise this isn't just another playful, sun-drenched whodunnit. The tone is darker, stranger, and far more morbid than Knives Out or Glass Onion, leaning hard into religious imagery, guilt, confession, and moral rot.Set around a remote church and a fire-and-brimstone priest, the film opens with what looks like an impossible murder: a man stabbed in a sealed room, in full view of his congregation. From there, Blanc circles a tight group of suspects — each with motive, history, and secrets — as the film toys with classic murder-mystery rules… and then quietly breaks a few of them. What we talk about in the episode:The tonal shift — why this feels closer to gothic noir than cosy Agatha ChristieReligion, confession, and judgment as thematic engines, not just window dressingWhether the mystery is too Scooby-Doo or intentionally rejecting “fair-play” sleuthingA stacked cast and who actually makes an impact (and who doesn't)Daniel Craig's Benoit Blanc: more observer than solver this time — for better or worseThe film's final act, revelations, and why it left us oddly unsatisfied despite clever ideasHow it stacks up against Knives Out (still the gold standard) and Glass Onion (the loudest sibling)We also get into a broader debate about modern murder mysteries, Netflix's influence on structure and pacing, and whether this series is drifting away from the thing that made it work in the first place: watching a brilliant detective actually do the detecting. If you like your whodunnits bleak, talky, and a little unholy — or if you just want to hear us wrestle with a film that's clever, flawed, and deliberately frustrating — this one's for you.
What happens when three outsiders try to reinvent access to money… during the worst financial crisis in decades? Before Kickstarter. Before GoFundMe.Before crowdfunding became a thing, there was Indiegogo, an idea born from frustration, inequity, and more than 93 rejections from investors. It was a funding platform built not for banks, studios or gatekeepers… but for everybody else.In this episode, co-founders Danae Ringelmann and Slava Rubin reveal the unpolished and often painful story behind Indiegogo — from digging into savings accounts, to fighting over strategy, to grinning and bearing it when their idea was dismissed as “cute.” You'll hear how their mission was shaped by loss of parents, financial instability, and a fundamental belief in fairness. How the 2008 crash nearly killed the company before it began. And how in the end, Indiegogo helped spark a massive cultural shift—proving that anyone, anywhere, could bring an idea to life.WHAT YOU'LL LEARN: How gatekeepers underestimate outsiders' ideasHow grief and personal history shape entrepreneurial courageHow to recover from 93 “no's” Why making money matters, but maintaining your values matters even more How co-founder conflict can sharpen (or break) a companyWhy Indiegogo didn't become Kickstarter — and what founders can learn from thatHow to know when it's time to walk away from your own companyTIMESTAMPS: 0:05:34 - Slava's childhood, and the deep loss that shaped his worldview0:09:00 - Danae's first lesson in leadership… from her dad's moving business0:12:43 - “Hollywood Meets Wall Street:” the emotional spark that led to Indiegogo0:18:43 - The Golden Gate conversation where Slava asked, “Why not put this on the internet?“ 0:32:56 - Building Indiegogo: mismatched personalities, big arguments, and the first 10 campaigns0:40:22 - The 2008 crash hits: 93 investor rejections and many moments of truth0:46:53 - Expanding beyond film: the inevitable pivot that ignited explosive growth0:54:04 - Internal evolution: roles, titles, hires, and the first taste of real scale 0:59:56 - Why the founders eventually stepped away — and why some opportunities were squandered1:05:19 - The legacy: how Indiegogo reshaped culture, creativity, and opportunity1:09:44 - Bonus: Small Business Spotlight This episode was produced by Katherine Sypher, with music by Ramtin Arablouei. But every corporate communicator, PR person, media relations person has needed an amazing idea at a drop of a hat.” — @Carla Johnson“People come to our profession for answers on how to solve something, or ‘How do I tell the story?' We've all had those moments where we know we need to post something…but have absolutely no idea what to say. In today's episode, I'm breaking down the simple mindset shift that will help you create better Instagram content without feeling like you have to reinvent the wheel every single time.Creating great content isn't about being clever. It's about being accurate, relevant, and empathetic. And one of the fastest ways to build trust is by speaking to your clients in the same words they use. Today I'm sharing where to find that language, how to use it, and why this approach works so well for brand photographers who want to create content that genuinely resonates. We're talking:The real reason you get stuck wondering what to postWhy client language is the foundation of strong messagingThe exact places to collect content ideasHow to stop writing for photographers and start writing for your actual brand clientsWhy vague, AI-ish captions don't convert...and what to do insteadHow to use repeated questions as your content roadmapLinks & Resources
What if “I'm not ready” is the biggest lie holding you back? In this episode of Truth Works, Jessica Neal sits down with Suneel Gupta — once literally the “poster child for failure” in The New York Times — to unpack how failure, exhaustion, and uncertainty can become fuel for a more courageous, energized life.Suneel shares how going from failed founder and Groupon's hyper-growth implosion to successful health-tech exit, Harvard faculty, and Amazon Prime host wasn't about having a perfect plan — it was about playing what he calls the game of now instead of the game of “someday.” He breaks down why none of the extraordinary people he's studied ever felt “ready,” how they acted anyway, and how they managed their energy (not just their time) to stay in the game. You'll hear:Why “I'm not ready” quietly kills careers and ideasHow being the face of failure opened doors to Oscar winners, founders & leadersThe “game of now” vs. the “game of someday” — and how to start todayWhy courage is not the absence of fear (and why fear is required)Emotional runway vs. financial runway for founders and teamsRhythmic renewal: the 55:5 model for building breaks into every dayWhy vacations don't fix burnout — and what actually does“Rest is not a reward, it's a resource” — a new mantra for high performersThe simplest definition of happiness: never worry aloneIf you've ever felt behind, burned out, or paralyzed waiting for the perfect moment, this conversation will give you language, tools, and a different way to move forward — one small action at a time.

What if the idea that changes your life… starts with something as ordinary as being thirsty? In 2007, Travis Rosbach walked into a sporting goods store looking for a water bottle—and stumbled onto a problem no one had solved. Plastic, BPA-lined bottles dominated the market. Metal alternatives leaked, dented, or couldn't keep drinks cold enough. Travis's solution? A double-walled, vacuum-insulated, stainless steel bottle. His expertise? Non-existent. This is the improbable story of how Hydro Flask was built—from scavenging metal parts in China, to selling bottles at outdoor markets, to getting into Whole Foods by sheer timing and luck, to a last-minute investor who walked in on the day Travis planned to shut the company down.Hydro Flask would go on to become one of the most recognizable and popular bottles in the country. In this episode of The UpWords Podcast, host Susan Smetzer-Anderson sits down with J. Richard Middleton, Emeritus Professor of Biblical Worldview and Exegesis at Northeastern Seminary and Roberts Wesleyan University. With decades of scholarship spanning theology, philosophy, and cultural analysis, Middleton offers a compelling exploration of what it truly means to hold a Christian worldview—and how that concept has evolved, been misunderstood, and often distorted over time.Drawing from his seminal work The Transforming Vision (1984) and his forthcoming book Dancing in the Dragon's Jaws: The Christian Worldview in a Conflicted Age, Middleton challenges listeners to move beyond tribalism, cultural conformity, and rigid doctrinal packages. Instead, he invites us to embrace a biblically rooted, lived orientation toward the world—one that is shaped by grace, community, and spiritual formation.Topics include:The difference between worldview as a lived orientation vs. a set of ideasHow cultural norms have overtaken biblical foundations in many churchesThe role of deconstruction and reconstruction in spiritual growthWhy diversity in Scripture points to a deeper unityPractical questions to help uncover and reshape your worldviewWhether you're a student, pastor, educator, or curious seeker, this episode offers rich insights into how we see the world—and how Scripture invites us to see it differently.

It was fine but felt more like a college dorm than a professional workspace. I'm running a full service brand strategy consultancy and production company, meeting with serious clients, and I realized the environment wasn't on brand for me. Then I discovered Industrious - and here's something that blew my mind: they're actually the world's largest premium flexible workspace, with over 200 locations across 10 countries. But they don't feel corporate or stuffy at all. What really sets them apart is their approach…Unlike traditional co-working spaces, Industrious operates more like a hotel management model. They partner directly with landlords to create these incredible spaces, and the difference is night and day. When I walk my clients through the doors now, I can see the immediate shift in how they perceive me and my company. There's this elevation in credibility that you just can't put a price on. And I'm not alone - their members consistently report feeling "proud to bring clients here" and that the space "elevates my own sense of self so I can do better work."The flexibility is incredible - I can scale my space up or down based on my team's needs. And with locations worldwide, I've got options whether I'm in LA or traveling for business to NYC and across the world. If you're tired of working from home or that coffee shop and you want a space that reflects your ambitions and style, you owe it to yourself to check out Industrious.Head to https://www.industriousoffice.com/ or send me a note and I'll personally set up a VIP tour for you in an Industrious office near you. It's about not trusting what you already know. Here's what blows my mind: After helping thousands of therapists create online programs, I've discovered something crucial - choosing the right program idea is literally everything. Get this wrong, and nothing else matters. Get it right? That's when the magic happens. And the best part? You already have everything you need to make this decision - you just might not see it yet.In this special episode (which is actually the first training from our Online Program Blueprint Bootcamp!), I'm pulling back the curtain on exactly how to choose and validate your online program idea. No more second-guessing, no more half-finished projects collecting dust on your hard drive. We're getting straight to what actually works, backed by real success stories from our community of over 4,000 therapists. In this episode, we dive into:Why your therapy room experience is actually the perfect market research (and how to use it)The Impact Matrix - your new best friend for validating program ideasHow to finally choose ONE idea (even if you have 17 different ones right now)The four crucial elements every successful online program needsReal stories from therapists who've turned their expertise into thriving online programsPractical steps to move from idea to action (without overwhelming yourself)This episode is just the beginning - it's actually the first of FOUR intensive trainings in our Online Program Blueprint Bootcamp. This edWeb podcast is sponsored by H-IQ.The edLeader Panel recording can be accessed here. How do we prepare students for jobs that don't yet exist using technology that hasn't been invented? In a world where change is constant, rapid, and unpredictable, the most important skill we can teach students is effective imagination to enable them to adapt to the unexpected. The future requires the imagination that leads to creativity—the one 21st century skill no one teaches. The debate on teaching creativity focuses on what the schools—teachers and administrators—need to do. However, students do not learn creativity by watching and listening. They learn by generating their own ideas and then exploring those ideas through trial and error. Teaching creativity is like teaching how to ride a bike—you can describe it or guide it, but eventually, each individual must learn to ride on their own. Listen to this edWeb podcast with Dan Hunter, author of Learning and Teaching Creativity, Dr. Rex Jung, neuropsychologist and brain researcher, and Hathalee Higgs, partner and co-founder of Hunter Higgs, to explore creativity including:How to generate ideasHow to design assignments to improve imaginationHow to measure creative progressHow to improve your own imaginationThis edWeb podcast is of interest to middle and high school teachers, school leaders, district leaders, and gifted and talented program leaders.Learn more about viewing live edWeb presentations and on-demand recordings, earning CE certificates, and using accessibility features.

Dating is expensive. There is no way to sugarcoat it. Between dinner, drinks, parking, entertainment, and more…the costs quickly add up. I was reading an article and they surveyed 2,000 Americans to find out the average person has spent $3,025 over the last year on dating. That's a little more than $250 a month and it didn't include indirect costs like new clothes, make-up, and haircuts.Even as someone in a long-term relationship where Gaby and I have similar financial goals, and the advantage of using coupons and hitting happy hours without social ridicule, we still spend a fair amount on dates. It is because creating shared memories is important to us…but so is financial independence. So whenever it comes to dating, how can we maximize fun without breaking the bank? Well, that's what I have in store for you today. My friend Samantha Vigneau and I created a list of 5 affordable and fun date ideas. My challenge to her was each of these ideas had to be less than $50 for two people and she hit the mark with many ideas being little to no money at all. This was a fun episode to make. I know many of us are dating right now let it be you're looking for someone or in a relationship and going out and making memories together is important. So how do we find the balance between that and our financial goals? This episode will answer that.I hope you enjoy my conversation with the Host of Single Status…Samantha VigneauKey Takeaways:Elements of bad first date ideas5 affordable yet fun date ideasHow do you discuss money with a new romantic interest?Signs to look for to understand someone's money valuesWhat to do if you feel like you're falling behind in lifeMore of Samantha:Website: https://www.singlestatuspodcast.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/samanthavigneau/More of The Struggle is Real:Find show notes and more at https://www.tsirpodcast.com/Follow us on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/tsirpod/

What happens when you take a deep dive into your personal growth journey and come out with a transformed leadership mindset? That's the question I grappled with as I prepared to level up and share my journey of intentional optimism with you. Reflecting on a recent enlightening conversation with Alisa Zhang, we found common ground in the concept of up-leveling oneself before showing others how to do the same. We make a crucial transition, shifting from prioritizing our own needs to focusing on the needs of others. If you're on the brink of a similar transition, or merely curious, join us on this thought-provoking journey.Leadership is not about the number of followers you gather, but the impact you make. Are you looking for a social media platform that delivers organic growth that you can monetize? Look no further than Instagram, where you can create a tribe, post regular content in a sustainable manner, and then look to monetize, in time, with high-ticket items or product endorsements.Rudy is in studio, perched on his Red Lips sofa, preaching to those of us still playing around with everything from Facebook to TikTok. He's sharing why Instagram covers the widest audience, how it allows for organic growth, and what you can do to make money off of the platform somewhere down the line. As always, Rudy is reverse-engineering the problem: he's looking at his money-making goals, and then looking at ways to spend money to make it back. He's rubbing shoulders with all the major players and influencers out there who, while they may be telling you they're just doing it for the fans, are shrewdly building an audience (their tribe) so that monetization opportunities will follow in due course. Have you ever wondered how do people come up with podcast episode ideas in one sitting? Maybe you are trying to launch a podcast, or maybe you're trying to decide what's your next season about, and you're feeling really overwhelmed with all the possibilities. If you replied 'I am!' to any of the 3 options above, his episode is specifically for you! Now, fair warning, this one doesn't include anything deeply strategic (yet) like endlessly Googling podcast topics, researching your competitors and peers, or doing keyword analysis. What is 'brain dumping'?'Brain dumping' is a strategy that I've used for years with podcasters to help them determine what's their level of expertise, comfort, interest and knowledge of that one podcast idea they initially had. I love this strategy because it's all about tapping into yourself, and it feels like a game that you can play for 30 minutes, in one sitting, or break it down in multiple parts throughout the week. Topics covered in this episode:Podcast topic ideasHow to determine good podcast ideasPodcast strategyStarting your podcast Pitfalls of podcast beginnersTakeaways from this episode:If you don't have a clear understanding of how long an episode idea can be used for, you may find yourself out of episodes in less than 3 months.'Brain dumping' is highly effective to determine if a podcast idea should be placed as ongoing episodic content, or serialized content. If you're just replicating a podcast idea that your competitor was able to successfully grow, but you're not truly excited by the concept, you may end up frustrated and disappointed.Aligning your podcast idea with what you do as a business, is crucial, if you're looking to get results from it. If you're looking for help to determine what is a good podcast idea, you can book a podcast power hour, or a strategy session with me.Resources mentioned in this episode:Let's work together to grow your podcast:https://bit.ly/PPodParty7 Types of Goals you can set for your podcast:https://www.thepodcastspace.com/podcast/4-7goalsVisit our website for more Podcast Resources: www.thepodcastspace.com/resources Learn more about our Maximize Your Podcast Content course: https://bit.ly/3TesQwc Subscribe to the Podcast on Audio Platforms: https://bit.ly/3Y4bF2c Subscribe to our newsletter for more Podcast Tips: https://thepodcastspace.ck.page/32680fa82e Connect to us on social media: YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjB4ztIRQBFadQ3C8OVZvDAInstagram https://www.instagram.com/thepodcastspace Facebook https://www.facebook.com/thepodcastspace Twitter

If you've ever thought about starting a business, then this is the podcast you should be listening to. This episode will provide you with a wealth of knowledge on how both Lisa & Anthony were able to pursue two business ventures that are generating profitable revenue streams. If you can find what you're passionate about and if it can possibly make you money along the way, then the next step would be to turn your idea(s) into a business. There are several business ventures that require little start-up costs, like the candle making business, while others will require more funding to get started such as remodeling homes. Regardless, starting any new business venture, requires discipline and dedication to see it through to fruition. Any new business ideas that you know nothing about will entail a level of educating yourself to have a better understanding of how to get started. Things to think about when starting a new business:Write down your ideasHow do I get started? What service or product are you going to provide? Will you be able to generate income from this business idea? How much will it cost to jump start your business?Where will your funding come from?Network with others that are already in the business and/or that share the same vision as youIn Closing, when people decide to be negative all the time and seldom see the positive things in life and constantly complain about everything, it's called, “Misery loves Company”. Life is too short to be negative all the time. Finding happiness is more fulfilling.
