This Episode introduces “THE BUZZ”, my new single. I think you know by now that I pride myself on the variety of my music. I cross a lot of genres. But this one maybe takes the cake. I like to describe “The Buzz” as short, sweet and totally different. With me today are the two extraordinary musicians who are featured on the track - Darius de Haas and Dave Eggar. Darius is the vocalist. He is a Broadway star of “Rent” and “Kiss of the Spider Woman”, and he's the singing voice of the character Shy Baldwin on the international hit “The Marvelous Mrs Maisel”. Dave Eggar plays the cello on the track. He is a world class musician who also crosses genres from rock to jazz to classical. He played on my recent single, “Ma Petite Fleur String Quartet”, and he's the guy who played the iconic cello work on Coldplay's massive hit “Viva La Vida”. Both have previously been guests on the podcast. --------------------------------------- “THE BUZZ”Click Here For The Official VideoClick Here For All Links —-------------------------------------- The Follow Your Dream Podcast:Top 1% of all podcasts with Listeners in 200 countries! Freedom is one of the leading values of our society. But with freedom comes responsibility, which is a much more contested principle. Deciding where responsibility lies, and what it means to take it, is the job of the courts. It is also debated in Parliament and in the media. It is often at issue on the psychotherapist's couch. For Radio 4's arts and ideas discussion programme, Shahidha Bari gathers a panel of experts who deal with the concept of responsibility in very different contexts. Recorded in front of an audience at the Hay Festival, Shahidha's guests are:Baroness Hale served as the most senior judge in the UK. Today, we are joined by the incredibly candid Tonatiuh, whose journey from years of uncertainty and hard-fought perseverance to starring opposite Jennifer Lopez is a testament to resilience, belief, and radical persistence. We dive into the "artistic altitude" of a career that spans from a grueling audition process for Kiss of the Spider Woman to navigating the high-stakes "scramble" of Hollywood publicity and the "valley moments" in between. Tonatiuh pulls back the curtain on the mental health toll of the business, the transition from "chasing" agents to finally being chased by the industry, and the radical persistence it took to hire a makeup artist to age him mid-audition just to prove he was right for the part. Get ready for an honest, unfiltered masterclass on what it truly takes to sustain a creative soul when the cameras stop rolling and the real work of reclaiming yourself begins. In the iconic words from A Streetcar Named Desire "we've had this date with each other from the beginning!" For nearly half of Labour's 20 months in power, it has been said that this set of local elections would mark Starmer's last throw of the dice. With results still coming in, it is difficult to analyse precise voter movements, but patterns are certainly beginning to emerge. This week's Golders Green attack resurfaced some deeply disturbing prejudices and raised the political temperature too. Alex and Kenny look at the facts as they stand and analyse the political reaction to a tinderbox issue. And, with temperatures rising literally as well as metaphorically, they turn their attention to the looming El Niño impact, and ask if hotter summers make for violent protests. Plus Angela Rayner has a pint and gets hammered (by the press). Is it because she's (insert own theory here). nb answer is probably Yes. ***SPONSOR US AT KO-FI.COM/QUIETRIOTPOD*** • If you or someone you know is struggling with alcohol issues, Drinkaware can help • Climate clip from 'The Day The Earth Caught Fire' • You can listen to Alex's new Podyssey Storytime, on Arachne the Spider Woman, here. The stakes are too high to allow even a hint of complacency to creep into our thinking about the upcoming US 2026 midterm elections. This is one of the most powerful and malicious administrations in US history - the same lot who tried to overrun the Capitol in order to overturn the 2020 result. To treat them as an inert substance that will not fight tooth and claw is naive and dangerous. The chaos and confusion sown daily by Trump acts as a screen, behind which the wider project is eating away at any notion of free and fair elections.Alex Andreou invites data scientist Professor Christina Pagel to discuss all the ways in which the Trump administration is trying to rig that existential election - from blatant gerrymandering and voter suppression, to more subtle legal strategies, media and corporate control, and the erosion of democratic norms ***SPONSOR US AT KO-FI.COM/QUIETRIOTPOD*** • Find out more about the Trump Action Tracker. • Check out Christina's substack. • You can listen to Alex's new Podyssey Storytime, on Arachne the Spider Woman, here. • Listen to Arthur's latest Behind The Lines on Iran here. • We have put together a BLUESKY STARTER PACK, with all our regular contributors and many more interesting politicos besides • Email us at quietriotpod@gmail.com • Or visit our website www.quietriotpod.com Brought to you by Naomi Smith, Alex Andreou and Kenny Campbell. When illness makes life unbearable, should we be permitted – and helped – to end our time in this place on our own terms? Last year on this podcast, we spoke to Andrew Copson, Chief Executive of Humanists UK, about the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill. On Friday the 24th of April, the bill officially ran out of parliamentary time. Undone not by elected MPs, a vote against it, or lack of public support, but by a filibuster organised by a handful of unelected peers. Food, fuel, political parties ... it can feel like we've never had so much choice. But how much choice do we REALLY have? Naomi and Kenny ask whether the modern world gives us choice on one level ... only to utterly deny it on other levels. Not a great week. James Cameron-Wilson found Lee Cronin's 'The Mummy', #4, an OTT, grotesque blend of Egyptian frolics and Exorcist-like demonic possession, genuinely unpleasant. Not much better was the Kander & Ebb musical 'Kiss of the Spider Woman', #51, a downer set in a prison cell with Jennifer Lopez as the Spider Woman, at least in the fanciful dreams of Luis, an imprisoned homosexual in 1983 Argentina. On Netflix there wasn't much relief, with 'Thrash', a disaster pic set during a category 5 hurricane which unleashes sharks into a small South Carolina community: implausible, very silly and unintentionally mirthful. After a brief hiatus for Sundance we are back to get you caught up on this week's physical media. Erik Childress and Peter Sobczynski look at a pair of enjoyable larks in the careers of John Woo and Jonathan Demme. There is the fun hangout movie that was just celebrated at the film festival where it had its premiere as well as one of the early Rolling Stones concert films. SXSW premiered one of the great twisted films about capitalistic depravity and Arrow does it justice here. There is also some twisted Dario Argento and a kid trying to hook up with Nicole Kidman. But this week is full of original films that were eventually remade including a western written by Elmore Leonard, the film which won William Hurt his Oscar, a Clark Gable film that he made twice, a dynamite thriller on a train, Charles Bronson as a cultured killer. Not but last least a classic rom-com that was remade that the guys have some very different opinions about.2:16 - Criterion (3:10 to Yuma (1957) (4K), Kiss of the Spider Woman (1985) (4K), House Party (4K), Birth (4K))31:44 - Warner Archive (Red Dust, The Narrow Margin)41:10 - Shout (Once a Thief (4K))51:14 - Vinegar Syndrome (Married to the Mob 4K, The Stendhal Syndrome 4K)1:09:33 - Arrow (Cheap Thrills)1:17:37 - Universal (Fifty Shades Trilogy 4K, Marry Me (4K))1:29:52 - Kino (Hold That Blonde, The Mechanic 4K, Sabrina (1995), The Hi-Lo Country, Let's Spend the Night Together 4K)2:09:35 – New Theatrical Titles On Blu-ray (Hung Up On a Dream: The Zombies, Blue Moon, The Thing with Feathers)2:11:41 – New Blu-ray Announcements!CLICK ON THE FILMS TO RENT OR PURCHASE AND HELP OUT THE MOVIE MADNESS PODCASTUSE COUPON “MOVIEMADNESS” TO GET 10% OFF ALL DUBBY PRODUCTSSIGN UP FOR AUDIBLEBe sure to check outErik's Weekly Box Office Column – At Rotten TomatoesCritics' Classics Series – At Elk Grove Cinema in Elk Grove Village, ILChicago Screening Schedule - All the films coming to theaters and streamingPhysical Media Schedule - Click & Buy upcoming titles for your library.(Direct purchases help the Movie Madness podcast with a few pennies.)Erik's Linktree - Where you can follow Erik and his work anywhere and everywhere. The Movie Madness Podcast has been recognized by Million Podcasts as one of the Top 100 Best Movie Review Podcasts as well as in the Top 60 Film Festival Podcasts and Top 100 Cinephile Podcasts. T Lo discuss Meghan Markle's Harper's Bazaar interview and the various feverish responses to it, unpack how the publicity tour for "Wicked: For Good" has gotten increasingly bizarre and dramatic, and review Jennifer Lopez's "Kiss of the Spider Woman" and all the ways it failed its star.
I talk about my new obsession with The Oregon Trail, an altercation with a neighbor, and why Jennifer Lopez finally deserves an Oscar nomination for “Kiss of the Spider Woman.” Plus, Cardi B being a Bronx bird, parents forcing their kids into sports and activities, and more. And guess what—Tia is back! After a 13-month hiatus, we're finally reunited on the mic to catch up and answer your listener letters.
This week Jackie and MJ are joined by Cinnamon Spice Chai-ara Klenk to goss' 'bout how no one realized "Kiss of the Spiderwoman" was already out, and the fact that there are photos floating of JLo and Benboy lookin' at each other with heart eyes once again! JLo addressed one of her many many lores, RBatz and JLaw did a movie that's comin' out called "Die My Love" and the released fight scene has been raising their eyebrows, and Sabrina Carpenter did an SNL performance that wasn't very well researched, plus the Reebok x Bravo COLLAB that is aimed right at Kara! Plus Ashton Kutcher is bein' super whiney about his missed roles. Then we got a LIST of times that celebrities low-key humiliated themselves by starting one-sided beef with a celeb that was totally unbothered, the blindz, and then Jackie's Snackies starts around 1:14:48.311, with an MJ's Minute Munchies at 1:20:54, and runs until 1:25:04!
