Though the last twelve episodes have taken Marina Warner and her interlocutors through many worlds and texts, no series could ever encompass the full scope of fantastic literature. This episode, recorded live at Swedenborg House, is an attempt to fill the gaps, or fail heroically. Marina and Adam Thirlwell are joined by Edwin Frank, editorial director of the New York Review Books and author of ‘Stranger than Fiction: Lives of the Twentieth Century Novel'. Together they assess existing canons and definitions, redefine and rediscover categories and exceptions, and consider the pleasures and uses of the fantastic. Now, it looks like Nick's following isn't real but was amplified by foreign bots in countries that want to destabilize the US. We cover the details, Tucker's apology to Christian Zionists, and other strange outcomes of this ongoing saga. https
A starving prisoner kneels in the mud so a stranger won't die alone. That image, carried from a liberated WWII camp, sets the compass for everything that follows. We talk about what real courage looks like when no one is watching, how ordinary choices either feed cruelty or push back against it, and why small acts of dignity can outlast the roar of any regime. From there, we connect the dots across Scripture and history. Colossians points us toward marriages shaped by love and respect, the kind that hold steady when the world shakes. Revelation confronts the spectacle of corrupt power and reminds us that empires built on appetite burn out. Psalm 145 brings us back to God's character—near to the broken, slow to anger, rich in mercy—calling us to pray like it matters. Alongside that, we spotlight First Lieutenant Henry G. Bonebrake's grit at Five Forks and revisit President Truman's 1947 Christmas message, where the star over Bethlehem becomes a summons to peace with integrity. The throughline is simple and demanding: defend human dignity, start at home, and carry hope into public life. Whether you're strengthening your family, serving your community, or standing up to lies, your steady faithfulness matters. Listen for the story that frames it all, reflect on the Scriptures that guide us, and leave with concrete steps to practice courage in the everyday. If this conversation stirred something in you, tap follow, share it with a friend who needs courage today, and leave a quick review so others can find the show. In this fast-paced, raw, and incredibly actionable LashCon 2025 coaching session, Sheila Bella sits down with a beauty entrepreneur who's struggling to grow her trainer kit business — and in under 20 minutes, Sheila completely restructures her visibility and sales strategy. If you've ever wondered why your product, kit, or training isn't taking off even though it's great, this episode will be a wake-up call. Sheila breaks down the exact reason most beauty businesses stay stuck: they're relying solely on word of mouth and not building a digital ecosystem that works on autopilot. You'll hear Sheila walk this business owner through a clear, simple two-part formula: 1. Get seen — visibility through content & ads 2. Get chosen — conversion through trust-building systems This episode is a must-listen for lash trainers, PMU educators, product creators, or anyone wanting consistent sales without burning out. ⭐ 5 Key Points From the Episode 1. Visibility Can't Rely on Word of Mouth Alone Sheila explains that if you want consistent, predictable growth, word of mouth is not enough. You need digital visibility that runs 24/7. 2. There Are Only Two Content Types: Organic & Paid Organic content builds trust. Paid content (ads) builds reach. Both are needed if you want trainers to see your kit as an option. 3. Trainers Only Choose Brands They See Repeatedly Visibility → familiarity → trust → sales. Your kits won't sell if trainers never see them online. 4. Automation Is the Only Way to Scale Without Burnout Sheila walks her through creating automated sales funnels, email sequences, DMs, and follow-up systems so she can grow her brand while raising her kids. 5. Being Seen Gets You Considered — But Being Chosen Requires Conversations Once people see your ads and content, what converts them is the messaging, follow-up, and nurturing process behind the scenes. We may be strangers here, but we are guests of the Lord. Part of that is His call to be holy, which is the same thing as saying be corrected on a regular basis. I think this is true: to perceive His presence, is to perceive His correction. (tell me if you agree with me)So if you are a believer, you probably should feel like a stranger and alien here. A Stranger Saved a Retired NYPD Officer's Life on Christmas Eve, A Special Episode Worth Hearing. This is more than a headline. It is a true story of survival, loss, depression, and an unexpected moment of human connection that changed everything. Look for The Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast on social media like their Facebook , Instagram , LinkedIn , Medium and other social media platforms. Dean Simpson is a retired police officer from the New York City Police Department. Years before this Christmas Eve, he was shot in the line of duty during a violent, life-and-death encounter. He survived the attack, but the shooting left him permanently disabled. What followed was a slow, painful unraveling that many first responders know too well. The inpsiring episode is streaming for free on the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast website, on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, and most every major Podcast platform Purpose disappeared. Pain remained. Alcohol filled the silence. By December of 2001, Dean's life had narrowed to drinking, isolation, and attending one police funeral after another. Just three months earlier, the Twin Towers had fallen. While his fellow officers ran toward the chaos on September 11, Dean woke up late, hungover, and drowning in guilt. He still put on his uniform and reported to Ground Zero, working at “The Pile” for weeks, until he realized he wasn't helping anymore. A Stranger Saved a Retired NYPD Officer's Life on Christmas Eve, A Special Episode Worth Hearing. Supporting articles about this and much more from Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast in platforms like Medium , Blogspot and Linkedin . Then came Christmas Eve. That morning, Dean put his father's revolver in one pocket and his father's worn Bible in the other. He boarded a train at Penn Station with a one-way ticket upstate. He had already decided that once he reached his destination, his life would end. He chose a secluded place so no one would have to clean up the mess, a thought that haunted him even then. While the train rolled north through snow-covered landscapes, a stranger sat down next to him. Her name was Erin. She was a chatty grandmother with a red scarf and a warm smile, exactly the kind of person Dean did not want to talk to. She spoke about the beauty of the city, the holidays, life, and love. Dean sat in silence, angry at her optimism, angry at everything. When she finally asked what he loved about New York City, his response was cold and sharp. Available for free on their website and streaming on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Youtube and other podcast platforms. “I love being left alone.” Instead of snapping back or moving seats, Erin stayed. When Dean apologized, she accepted. Slowly, gently, she drew him into conversation. She shared her own story, her late husband, her children, her grandchildren. And for the first time in a long while, Dean talked about his life. About being shot. About losing his father. About feeling useless and invisible. A Stranger Saved a Retired NYPD Officer's Life on Christmas Eve, A Special Episode When the train reached Albany, Erin handed him a small pink note. “I don't know where you're headed,” she told him, “but when you get there, read this.” They hugged, and she was gone. Dean continued on to Black Mountain, climbing toward Lake George with ice-capped water below. At the summit, he opened his father's Bible. A scrap of paper fell out, marking a verse: Corinthians 10:13. To a cop, that number meant something else entirely, police code for officer needs assistance. The Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast episode is available for free on their website , Apple Podcasts , Spotify and most major podcast platforms. Then he read Erin's note: “Dean, life is a gift meant to be shared. Don't ever give up hope. Merry Christmas. Erin.” In that moment, something lifted. The weight inside him eased. Dean emptied the revolver and threw it into the abyss. Then he turned around and walked back down the mountain. A Stranger Saved a Retired NYPD Officer's Life on Christmas Eve. That was the day a stranger saved his life. In this special episode of the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast, Dean Simpson tells his story openly, not for attention, but to reach others who may be standing on the same edge. He speaks about trauma, addiction, purpose, and recovery. He shares how the badge shaped him, how it nearly broke him, and how one unexpected act of kindness redirected his life. His interview can be found on The Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast website, on Apple podcasts, Spotify, Youtube and on LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and across most podcast platforms where listeners will find authentic law enforcement stories. Dean is also the author of two books: The Blue Pawn: A Memoir of an NYPD Foot Soldier, a raw and unfiltered account of life in law enforcement, and Godless v. Trust: The Radical Left's Quest to Destroy Western Civilization, reflecting the worldview forged through experience and service. His story has been shared across Facebook, Instagram, and various news outlets, and is now featured in a special episode of a powerful podcast conversation. Listeners can hear Dean tell this story in his own words on Apple, Spotify, and other major podcast platforms. Prepare to GROK this classic like never before! In today's Jim-solo review, we dive into Robert A. Heinlein's Stranger in a Strange Land — one of the most influential, controversial, and conversation-sparking science-fiction novels ever written. Originally published in 1961 and later expanded in the uncut edition, this book reshaped the genre, challenged cultural norms, and introduced ideas that still echo through modern sci-fi… and modern society. In this spoiler-lite discussion, I explore the book's central themes, key characters, philosophical underpinnings, and why this novel fascinated me as a young adult — and why it hit even harder on a recent reread for a conversation over on the Non-Terrestrial Half-Life YouTube channel. From Michael Valentine Smith's journey to the hypocrisies of American culture, this story still has something urgent and unsettling to say.Whether you've read it before, are thinking about picking it up, or simply want to understand why this book remains such a lightning rod in sci-fi history, this episode is for you.If you enjoy this kind of deep-dive book talk, don't forget to Like, Subscribe, and ring that bell so you never miss an episode. Creating a helpline for eating disorders is now a reality. Sarah Callazzo used to wear smaller jeans and fake a smile. She liked having as many friends as possible. She would never consider herself a leader. Her camera roll was filled with 'progress pictures' of her body. She was fighting a losing battle with herself. She was in denial and was exhausted - but she would've never admitted it. Around five years ago, Sarah decided she didn't want to be that girl anymore. She was exhausted from trying to be the girl that 'does it all.' Rather than trying to be a superwoman for everyone else, she wanted to be her own hero. She has been actively working on her own recovery while encouraging others to do the same. Sarah is a proud sister of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, a former Chapter President at the University of Rhode Island, and author of the book "Unknown Warrior: Battling the Mirror". Sarah just completed her Master of Social Work at Fairleigh Dickinson University in the Spring of 2025, and has recently founded a new organization that she will tell us all about called "Love a Stranger". In episode 625 of the Fraternity Foodie Podcast, we find out the moment when Sarah realized didn't want to be that version of herself anymore (performative), what does Unknown Warrior mean to her, why is there a documented rise in eating disorders nationwide, what are the warning signs students and chapter leaders should be watching for with eating disorders, what was the moment that sparked the creation of this helpline for eating disorders, what does peer-to-peer support offer that traditional treatment or crisis systems often cannot, what is one practical change we could implement this semester to better support students struggling with body image or disordered eating, and what should students actually feel when they hear ""What you look like is the least interesting thing about you". Enjoy!
This week we discuss mac and cheese and the intricacies of cranberry farming.
Some moments don't wait for permission — they announce themselves the second you open the car door. Our first story begins on an ordinary day in 2004… until a reflection in a minivan window shows someone standing in the front yard who shouldn't be there. A stranger. A woman. Walking calmly across the grass as if she belongs there. That would've been strange enough. But what makes this story unforgettable is not what was seen… but when it was seen. Because sometimes a reflection isn't just a trick of the light. Sometimes it's a message you weren't meant to miss. A family gathering, a celebration, a day that should have been simple — and in the middle of it, an unexpected glimpse into a moment that didn't belong to the living. A moment the storyteller couldn't explain, and still can't stop thinking about years later. #GhostReflection #RealGhostStoriesOnline #ParanormalEncounter #SpiritSightings #UnexplainedReflections #HauntedMoments #LeapYearCurse #GhostlyAppearances #TrueGhostStory #SeenBeforeSheWasGone Love real ghost stories? In this bonus episode, I spoke with Nina Power about 'hybristophilia' – a fetish typically found in women that is characterized by sexual attraction to criminals. We discussed what the phenomenon reveals about female sexuality, the insights offered by erotic fiction intended for a female readership, and the tightrope that women have to walk when trying to attract sexual interest from men. Send us a textA coffin rattles into a mining camp and turns out to be a piano—an unlikely miracle for a saloon that runs on cards, noise, and stubborn pride. We set the scene in a winter-struck gulch where 300 miners live by the hour and try not to think about the lives they left behind. Goskin, the gambler who owns the hall, wants one thing for Christmas: someone brave enough to bring that silent instrument to life. What follows is a story about fear, longing, and the strange ways grace finds a way in. A half-frozen stranger steps out of the storm, warms his hands by the fire, and admits he used to play. When he touches the keys, the room stops moving. Imperfect chords swell into old ballads and familiar carols that carry the men back to apple blossoms, Scottish heather, and candlelit aisles. Even the toughest faces fold when Home Sweet Home lands. The gambling halts, glasses lower, and hardened men drift out to write letters they've owed for years. Then comes the twist that only the frontier could provide. The player asks for a brother named Driscoll, vanishes before dawn, and leaves an empty till and a trail that dies in the snow. The white hair? A wig. The musician? The three-card man who watched the piano like a starving wolf watching a door. Yet the con can't erase the truth of what happened. Music worked where bullets and bravado never could. It made space for memory, tenderness, and the kind of Christmas that holds time together, even in a place built on luck.If this tale moved you, follow the show, share it with a friend, and leave a review with the song that takes you home.Support the showIf you'd like to buy one or more of our fully illustrated dime novel publications, you can click the link I've included.
