Barbara Serra is an award-winning Italian journalist who has spent much of her career reading the news in the UK on various high-profile well-established English language news networks including the BBC, Channel 5, Al Jazeera English and Sky News. So how has this affected her career as a news reader and reporter? What is the story of her English? What kind of challenges has she faced while reading the news in the UK? And what does this all tell us about learning English, what it means to improve your accent, the relationship between accent and identity, the definition of “native” and “non-native speaker”, the status of different English accents in the English speaking world?

Vik has written for a host of tv series including 'An Idiot Abroad', 'The Moaning of Life', 'Hello Ladies', 'The Undateables', 'Mary Queen of Frocks', and 'Hoff The Record'. His latest gig saw him team up with Stephen Merchant again, as he scored the film ‘Fighting With My Family’, roping in legendary Blur guitarist Graham Coxon, and The Cure's Jason Cooper to play on the soundtrack.Based on a true story, 'Fighting With My Family' tells the tale of reformed gangster and former wrestler Ricky (Nick Frost), his wife Julia (Lena Headey), daughter Saraya (Florence Pugh) and son Zak (Jack Lowden) who make a living performing in tiny venues across the country. Ricky and Julia want a better life for their children and when brother and sister get the chance to audition for WWE, it seems the family dream is coming true and all their troubles will be solved. However, Saraya and Zak are about to learn that becoming a WWE Superstar demands more than they ever imagined possible as athletes and siblings. Wrestling has always kept this family together - but now it could tear them apart.Along with starring in the film, Stephen Merchant directs and writes the movie. Dwayne Johnson exec produces, and (as this is a film about WWE) also appears as himself in the movie. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

The Geektown Radio podcast returns this week to discuss the latest tv reviews, film news, UK TV premiere date info, and US TV news as Dave is joined by Darryl from Hollywood News Source as co-host. We also have not one but two interviews with composers whose films premiered this weekend at the Sundance Film Festival, Roger Suen & Piers Burbrook de Vere.Roger Suen is best known for scoring Justin Chon's 2017 Sundance award-winning film, 'Gook'. This year, Roger reunites with Chon to score the emotional Asian-American family drama 'Ms. Purple' which premiered at Sundance last weekend. The movie tells the story of Kasie, a young girl who has to seek help from her estranged brother when her bedridden father's caretaker unexpectedly quits. The siblings are forced to reconnect and reconcile the suppressed trauma that led to their separation. When Roger isn't working on his own films, he helps out other composers, providing additional music for their scores. This has led to his work being featured in Guillermo Del Toro’s four-time Oscar-winning film 'The Shape of Water', Netflix’s five-time Emmy-nominated series 'Daredevil' and Emmy-nominated series 'The Defenders'. Through his mastery of orchestral composition and modern electronica, he has also created heart-pounding additional music for Oscar-nominated 'X-Men' and 'Maze Runner' film franchises.Australian composer Piers Burbrook de Vere most recently scored award-winning director Abe Forsythe's zombie comedy 'Little Monsters', starring Lupita Nyong'o ('Black Panther'), Josh Gad ('Frozen'), and Alex England ('Alien: Covenant'). Whilst the movie has zombies and comedy, it also needed the actors to play musical instruments on screen. That included Lupita playing the ukulele, and Alex playing the guitar... with the minor issue that Alex couldn't play the guitar when they started filming, so we chat with Piers about what they did to solve that!Piers previously scored Forsythe's award-winning provocative black comedy, 'Down Under'. Additionally, he has exhibited works across the US and Europe as an artist and performer, and has toured internationally with the acclaimed Australian Chamber Orchestra. The Geektown Radio podcast returns for our penultimate show before the Christmas break, and I'm joined by the dread pirate Bex Trista from TristaBytes, who is currently recovering from being a klutz and smashing up her knee... Something which I was, of course, completely sympathetic about... Along with all the usual tv news and air date info, we also have an interview with Olivia Williams, Harry Lloyd & Nicholas Pinnock, three of the stars of StarzPlay's brilliant sci-fi thriller 'Counterpart'.If you haven’t caught the spy thriller yet, it stars J.K. Simmons (J. Jonah Jameson in ‘Spider-man’, and Commissioner Gordon for the DCU), as Howard Silk, a low-level bureaucrat at a seemingly innocuous UN agency, the Office of Interchange or OI. He’s trudging through his latter years of a life filled with regret, that is until he discovers the agency is hiding a secret… It’s protecting a gateway to a parallel universe.Olivia Williams ('Dollhouse', 'The Sixth Sense') plays Emily Silk/Burton, wife (and, confusingly, ex-wife) of Howard Silk, who is way more involved in the spy games than she initially seems. Harry Lloyd (Viserys Targaryen in 'Game Of Thrones') stars as Peter Quayle, the Alpha (aka “our side”) OI Director of Strategy. Nicholas Pinnock ('Fortitude', 'Marcella') portrays Ian Shaw, an aggressive OI Housekeeping operative on the Prime side (aka “the other side”), and former boyfriend of the Prime Emily. WARNING THERE ARE SPOILERS FOR SEASON 1 IN THE INTERVIEW!‘Counterpart‘ Season 1 and the first eps of Season 2 are on Amazon Prime Channel STARZPlay right now, with new episodes landing every Sunday. For those of you confused as to what is StarzPlay, it is an addition “add-on” channel you can get via Amazon Prime Video. He was a member of the band The B-52's for over 20 years (You can see him on keyboard in the famous 'Love Shack' video) and he also was the composer of classic, hit cartoon series 'Rocko's Modern Life', 'Nurse Jackie' and 'Feed the Beast' to name a few.More recently, Pat has been Netflix series 'The Good Cop', which stars Tony Danza as Tony Sr. (aka Big Tony), a lovable yet not exactly honourable, former NYPD officer who never followed the rules. He lives with his son, Tony Jr. (TJ), played by Josh Groban, a brilliant, straight-laced NYPD detective who makes a point of always following the rules while solving Brooklyn’s toughest cases. This “odd couple” become unofficial partners as Tony Sr. offers his overly-cautious son blunt, street-wise advice.Additionally, Pat has recently returned to his earlier work, as Nickelodeon brings out the film 'Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling', which sees Rocko return to O-Town after being in space for 20yrs, and having to deal with a more modern life than ever before! If that wasn't enough to keep Pat busy, he is also in two bands - the PI Power Trio featuring Sasha Dobson on drums and vocals and Daria Grace on bass and vocals, and SUSS featuring Bob Holmes, Gary Leib, Jonathan Gregg and William Garrett. Also On This Week's Show:I'm joined by Darryl in the co-host seat this week, so we chat about the tv shows, games, and films. We take a look at all the latest tv & film news, including renewals & cancellations. We give you our recommendations for upcoming TV in the next 7 days. On the Geektown Radio podcast this week we have a little change from our usual tv and film people interviews. We've recently returned from a long weekend at the brilliant Insomnia 63 Gaming Festival, and had a chance to chat with a number of the indie game developers. We also have all the usual latest UK TV news, air date information. The first developer we spoke to was Sole Survivor Games, the duo behind the wonderfully entertaining 'Honey, I Joined a Cult', which puts you in control of your own 1970s cult. The object is to build and expand your base, manage your resources, and generally make as much money out of your followers as humanly possible! We chatted with the guys, neither of whom have any background or experience in game development, about coming up with the concept, the obvious 'Prison Architect' inspiration (and more importantly, how it differs), and about risking quitting perfectly good jobs to put it all on the line and live their dream of developing a video game! The second people we spoke with were Level Boss Games about their upcoming title 'Stuntfall'. In the game, you are a ragdoll stuntman on a green screen set filming a scene for any of 5 different themed films. Your task is to complete objectives to win points with the director. Singleplayer sees you play through a series of films utilising the game's mechanics to complete each scene, whereas multiplayer is focused on the more competitive aspect of the modes and mechanics with matches of Humans and AI playing for the sheer purpose of winning. The last people we chatted with were FreeJam, the award-winning developer of free-to-play PC hit, 'Robocraft', who were showing off their new title, 'CardLife'. 'CardLife' is a 'Minecraft-esque' online multiplayer survival game set in a cardboard Science Fantasy world. You can encounter and battle a host of fantastical creatures and craft your own creations using their unique Connect the Dots crafting system where you can draw customisable cardboard shapes that slot together to create new Tools, Building Prefabs, Weapons, Vehicles, Creature Companions and much much more. Also On This Week's Show:Darryl returns the co-host chair so we chat about tv shows, films and games we’ve been watching and playing since he was last on.We take a look at all the latest tv & film news, including the latest renewals & cancellations, Brendan Fraser joining 'Doom Patrol', casting changes in the Arrowverse, and Armando Iannucci’s Sci-fi Comedy Pilot ‘Avenue 5’.We give you our recommendations for upcoming TV in the next 7 days. He previously won once in 2014, also for 'The Blacklist', and has been nominated every year since then. For Cort, one of the reasons why he thinks he keeps getting nominated is because he uses very minimal CGI with his work. All of the things he does are in camera and on screen. So when someone falls off a building, it is a real person falling off the building. When the cars are crashing, the cars really crash. He wants to makes it as authentic as possible.
