Every year in Australia, nearly 50,000 people are reported missing. While the vast majority are located within days, thousands of families are left navigating the harrowing journey of ambiguous loss, fighting every day to keep their loved one's name alive. In this episode of True Crime Conversations, Gemma Bath speaks with Nicole Morris, founder and director of the Australian Missing Persons Register and author of the new book Lost. For over 20 years, Nicole has voluntarily advocated for missing individuals and provided a vital lifeline to grieving families who often feel unheard by system-level responses. Together, they delve into the complex realities behind missing persons statistics, the controversial disparity of police rewards across states, and six cases Nicole discusses in her book —including 1970s cold cases with potential links to Ivan Milat. We're being told AI could end humanity, which is a lot for a Monday. But don’t worry, Sydney Sweeney is here to tell us how much she loves sports! There’s a skit going viral about Harry and Meghan that has people divided on whether it’s a little bit funny or a little bit mean.An AI researcher quit his job last week and told us that the people building this stuff genuinely believe it could kill us all within the decade. Amelia explains what the whistleblowers are calling for and why "just regulate it" might not be the easy fix everyone assumes.Plus Holly's making the case for 'hopepunk' - why choosing hope right now might be the most rebellious thing you can do. Borrowing from Caitlin Moran and Nick Cave, we explore how you can actually change anything in a world this broken, and why giving up isn't an option. Also, Sydney Sweeney's new ad for a sports betting app has her straddling a basketball hoop naked, and it has united female athletes around the world. They’re furious. We unpack why women in sport feel it’s pushed us backwards and whether the ad is doing exactly what it was designed to do. Are Aussies anti bush? Not the former president, the bikini kind. A viral essay asked why nobody blinked when a writer wore hers to the beach, and Em wants to know whether Australia is culturally anti-bush while America is having a big bush renaissance (a bush-enaissance if you allow). Would you post about it if your partner killed the family pet? A well-known content creator told her 1.8 million followers that her husband had killed the injured bird they were nursing back to health, and the internet unanimously said the same thing: leave him. But is it actually that simple, or is there a difference between the line you'd draw with your partner and the line you'd draw with a friend? Plus, one of the biggest names on the internet has just quietly ended a show she's been running for 12 years, and Em thinks she's stopped too soon. And therapy is over-rated! Jennifer Robinson has spent her career standing beside people who have found themselves up against some of the most powerful institutions in the world. The Australian human rights lawyer has represented Julian Assange and Amber Heard, and her new documentary Silenced examines what can happen to women who speak publicly about violence and abuse. In this episode of No Filter, Jennifer talks to Kate Langbroek about the grandmother who inspired her life’s work, what she witnessed while representing Amber Heard, and how social media shaped the public response to the Depp-Heard case. She also explains why Brittany Higgins’ story became central to Silenced, and the extraordinary personal cost that speaking out can carry. Jennifer also takes Kate inside her 14-year fight to help bring Julian Assange home, and reflects on what that case taught her about power, the media and her continuing belief that change is possible. At the heart of the conversation is a difficult question: what is the price women pay for speaking out, and how do we make it safer for them to use their voice? Silenced is in cinemas now. Gael and Nathan fell in love onscreen during season 9 of Bravo's hit reality TV show Below Deck Med, airing in 2024; but, as Season 11 airs right now, a lot has happened off screen. Two days after Christmas in 2025, a terrifying assault took place inside an apartment in Sydney’s north-west. New parents Nathan Gallagher and Gael Cameron were arguing when Nathan escalated the fight covering Gael's mouth, suffocating her, and squeezing her neck. Gael eventually broke free and went straight to the police. But just months later, the couple's relationship and their journey into parenthood with their six-month-old son was broadcast to millions of viewers on Bravo's hit reality TV franchise, Below Deck Mediterranean as they returned for season 11. Fans watched their relationship play out on screen, completely unaware of the horrific domestic violence that had already taken place off-camera. Now, 28-year-old Nathan Gallagher is a convicted criminal on the run. With an active warrant for his arrest, NSW Police have warned the public not to approach him as the manhunt continues. Jessie Stephens, co-host of Mamamia Out Loud and bestselling author, sits down with Kate Langbroek for a completely candid conversation about the last six months of her life. Ten weeks early, on the day she finished up for maternity leave, Jessie gave birth to twins Margot and Harry, while at home raising her toddler daughter, Luna. Jessie opens up about something she's never spoken about publicly before, a moment in NICU when she found herself in what she describes as "a really dark place." She also talks about growing up an identical twin, falling for her now husband Luca while they worked together, and building a marriage and family and a career when it's all intertwined. Jessie will be back on Mamamia Out Loud in September. Want to listen before everyone else? Your house needs a “dirty zone”. Which, let’s face it, is just as well. Also, is there such a thing as living too long? Jessie Stephens wants to take on the longevity craze and unpack this dangerous idea, after seeing Lucinda Holdforth speak. Plus, Holly Wainwright blames Harry Styles for the fact that running has become the coolest hobby there is, Jessie has a theory about marathon runners and Em thinks there’s a very strict rule about how long they can wear their medals. And, a marathon (ouch) of recommendations, friends: Em recommends a water filter jug from Kmart. Jessie recommends A LOT — The Things We Never Say by Elizabeth Strout, The Traitors Australia, and Silk Pillowcases. Also Love Island. Holly recommends My Brilliant Career on Netflix. Keen for more? Ally Langdon has spent more than 25 years at Channel Nine, reporting from war zones and natural disasters for 60 Minutes, surviving the brutal hours of breakfast television and eventually taking over one of the most coveted chairs in Australian TV as host of A Current Affair. But for someone millions of Australians feel they know, Ally has kept much of her life firmly out of the spotlight. In this episode of No Filter, Ally joins Kate Langbroek for a funny, candid and surprisingly personal conversation about the woman behind the television career. She talks about raising two children with husband Mike Willesee Jr, the years they spent barely seeing each other while both had demanding careers, why she refuses to read the comments about herself and what really went through her mind when she was offered the A Current Affair job. Ally also takes Kate back to her childhood on a farm on the NSW Mid North Coast, reflects on the stories that have stayed with her after decades as a journalist and explains why, despite everything she has witnessed, she still believes there is far more good in the world than bad. And ahead of R U OK?Day, Ally shares the deeply personal story of her friendship with Maryanne Larkin and her late husband Gavin, the founder of R U OK?, and how their families have remained connected through extraordinary love and unimaginable loss. Gloria Steinem, one of the most recognisable voices of modern feminism, has died at 92. In tribute, we're re-sharing this 2016 conversation between Gloria and Mia Freedman, recorded during Gloria's visit to Australia. Gloria talks openly about the illegal abortion she had in London in 1957, her decision not to have children, her marriage later in life to "the friend I married," and the mother whose own ambitions were given up for family. She reflects on ageing in public, the pressure on women to stay young, celebrity feminism, and her friendships with a younger generation of feminists including Lena Dunham. It's a candid, wide-ranging conversation with a woman who shaped the modern women's movement — full of the warmth, wit and clarity she was known for. Want to listen before everyone else? one of the hottest tickets in Hollywood. Julia Stiles is officially hitting the dance floor, Taylor Hanson has made an unexpected appearance, and Jenna Dewan is already having to defend herself against claims she has an unfair advantage. We unpack the wild new line-up and why celebrities are suddenly desperate to get on the show. Plus, newly single Isla Fisher is dating again, and she’s revealed the incredibly specific moment a man gave her an irreversible ick. The poor guy was simply trying to catch his runaway dog, but unfortunately the way he did it changed everything. We get into Isla’s confession and the dating icks that prove celebrities really are just like us. And why haven’t we seen a single official photo from Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding? Travis has finally shared some new details about their big day, including why they chose Madison Square Garden and how they managed to keep the whole thing so private. But we have another theory about why Taylor might still be keeping those wedding photos under wraps. Outside a Massachusetts courtroom, women have travelled across the country to hold signs that read "she needed help". Jessie Stephens unpacks forensic fandom — the internet's habit of working a real trial as if it’s a season of Lost — and why those signs might not be about Lindsay Clancy at all. Plus, Holly Wainwright is back from holidaying in Harry and Meghan’s new home and has a surprising (for her) new take. Also, Married at First Sight is reportedly going sober, drastically cutting its alcohol rules after a series of scandals. Jessie has thoughts about whether a show built on a hand grenade survives without one. And, Olivia Rodrigo is our crush and pin-up in a week when we need heroes, and why men are cutting off their eyelashes for a really dumb reason. In 2018 Zoe Watts' family believed her 16-year marriage was ending due to an affair. Struggling with debilitating panic attacks, sleeplessness, and nervous breakdowns, she finally confided in her sister, revealing a far more horrifying reality. Her husband hadn't just splintered their family with infidelity; he confessed to secretly drugging her with their son's sleeping medication and sexually abusing her while she was unconscious. Years before the world learned the name Gisèle Pelicot, Zoe was forced to navigate the shadowed, rarely discussed reality of spousal drug-facilitated rape. After seeing her husband sentenced to 11 years in prison, Zoe waived her legal anonymity to share her story as part of a global CNN investigation exposing online "rape academies"—hidden communities where thousands of men swap tips for drugging their partners. In this episode of True Crime Conversations, Gemma Bath speaks with Zoe Watts about surviving unimaginable betrayal, standing up against secret online networks, and her crusade to reform the laws that allow this crime to fester in the dark. HEADLINES: Four men have been interviewed by Victoria Police detectives this week as part of investigations into the sexual assault allegations linked to the Sydney Swans AFL club. Police are investigating after a man was shot dead in Sydney’s west in what detectives believe was a targeted daylight attack. Consent advocate Chanel Contos has told National Press Club that big tech is radicalising young men into harmful sexual behaviour, and is pushing for a ban on social media algorithms. The world is on track to exceed 1.5 degrees of global warming within years, according to a new UN report. So it turns out we’ve all been drinking water wrong. And good news for animal lovers about the New Zealand kākāpō. New research suggests the real damage in contact sports might not be happening on game day, but during training, and it's raising urgent questions for anyone with a kid on a footy field this weekend. On this episode of The Quicky, we look at the degenerative brain disease increasingly turning up in Australian football codes, from AFL and AFLW to soccer, and why doctors believe the cumulative hits from years of junior sport could matter more than any single big hit. We hear from leading neurologist Dr Rowena Mobbs on what parents and clubs can actually do about it, and why the answer isn't pulling your kid off the field.Important concussion advice from Dr Rowena Mobbs, neurologist at Mater Hospital Sydney: - Keep brain health front of mind.- Carefully observe the athlete if a concussion is suspected and follow the protocols.- Know the red flags that may indicate a more serious brain injury: Neck pain - Increasing confusion, agitation or irritability - Repeated vomiting - Seizure or convulsion - Weakness or tingling/burning in the arms or legs - Deteriorating conscious state - Severe or increasing headache - Unusual behavioural change - Loss of vision or double vision - Visible deformity of the skull - Loss of consciousness. - If you see these signs, seek emergency care." There's a show we're obsessed with and we need you to be too. Season two of Adults just landed on Disney+ and it's somehow even funnier than the first, so we're deep-diving the show that has Taylor Swift, us, and apparently all of TikTok in a chokehold. We're also unpacking why the US Dancing with the Stars has quietly become the hottest ticket in Hollywood, with A-listers reportedly sliding into DMs begging for a spot. The latest name attached has sparked a full-blown fan uprising, and one theory about what it all really says about the world is a little too convincing. And finally, we're getting to the bottom of all the lies Kylie Jenner has recently told us, from a very questionable interview to the truly unhinged claim about a talking cat that has us genuinely spooked. Australia has just passed one trillion dollars in government debt, and combined state, territory and federal debt is set to hit two trillion by the end of the decade. On this episode of The Quicky, we ask why nobody seems worried: from ballooning state budgets since COVID to the "free" election promises being made ahead of the Victorian and NSW polls. Experts from the Grattan Institute and the Centre for Independent Studies explain why debt feels abstract to voters, and why the bill always seems to land later. HEADLINES: Australians may soon be able to force social media companies to destroy their personal information. The average annual total cost for a child to play in a community sport competition is growing. Australia is taking a first step towards better understanding motor neurone disease, in a move aimed at getting closer to a cure. A major push to tackle hundreds of thousands of potholes is underway, with one state turning prisoners for help. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly being put up by a famous friend as they settle back into life in the UK. Australia has one of the longest life expectancies in the world, but we also have the second-largest healthspan-lifespan gap globally, meaning the average person spends around 12 years sick before they die. On this episode of The Quicky, we look at why that's happening: a medical system so good at keeping people alive that doctors treat death as a failure to be intervened against, even in someone's final days. We hear from author Lucinda Holdforth (Going On and On) on the toll this is taking on informal carers - 85% of whom are women - many in the "sandwich generation" caring for ageing parents and young children at once. Plus, why voluntary assisted dying isn't the only answer, and how palliative care could offer more dignity at the end of life. Grace Rouvray is back this week, alongside Stacey Hicks and Amelia Lester as we remember Dolly Parton and consider the roles 'favourite aunts' have in our child's lives. Plus, Stacey takes us deep into the viral 'Oreo-gate' drama to reveal why the internet’s favourite mum group feud is almost certainly fake. And, we’re rating two new playgrounds — including a wine-barrel setup and a slide that simulates the sinking Titanic. What could go wrong? Amelia recommends A Loo Of One’s Own by Eleri Harris, a brilliant Australian picture book about parliamentary history and women's rights hiding behind toilet humour. Grace recommends the Lamaze 8pc Pile & Play Stacking Cups for keeping little hands endlessly entertained. Practical Magic 2 is almost here, Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock have reunited on the red carpet... and it's officially witchy season. Naturally, we're counting down the witchy movies that shaped us, from midnight-margarita comfort watches to the genuinely cursed. There's one 1990 classic that traumatised Laura so badly she turned down an Anne Hathaway interview rather than go near it, and she's begging you not to let your kids watch it. We're also spiralling over the '90s cult favourite that turned an entire generation of tweens into candle-lighting, spell-casting witches… and had real witchcraft on set, storms and all.Grab your candles (carefully), pour a margarita, and settle in. Just remember: nothing in the witchy world is ever free.TAKE THE SPILL'S WEEKLY POP CULTURE QUIZ HERE Become a Mamamia subscriber and get an all-access pass to everything we make, including exclusive podcasts and early listening, subscriber-only articles, monthly giveaways and our home workout app, MOVE. What happens when you gift your podcast co-host a $9.99 jar of sheep placenta cream? Absolute chaos, naturally. In this episode, Leigh and Kelly jump straight into the weird and wonderful world of extreme beauty ingredients before diving into the biggest industry news: clean-girl favourite Merit is finally hitting Sephora Australia, while the minds behind Revolution Beauty have launched a wildly affordable, colour-packed brand called Troublemaker in Target and Kmart. Plus, the girls unpack the viral TikTok "milky toner" technique that promises to fix cakey base makeup and save dry skin. Then, it's time to tackle your burning listener questions from budget-friendly, at-home tricks for blending gray hairs between salon visits, to the ultimate breakdown of how makeup removers actually work (and why your skin might hate foaming cleansers). North West is Dazed's new cover star, and the internet has a LOT to say. At 13, Kim Kardashian's eldest is being raked over the coals for her styling, her adults-only itinerary and a music tour that quietly collapsed, and we're unpacking why this cover has reignited the child-star debate all over again. And we're mourning the death of the original idea. Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey are reuniting for a How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days sequel, and while we love them, we're asking the bigger question: is Hollywood ever going to greenlight anything new again?Plus, we pay tribute to the late, great Tim Curry — the shape-shifting genius behind some of our most formative (and most terrifying) childhood characters, and the films worth revisiting to remember him.TAKE THE SPILL'S WEEKLY POP CULTURE QUIZ HERE Become a Mamamia subscriber and get an all-access pass to everything we make, including exclusive podcasts and early listening, subscriber-only articles, monthly giveaways and our home workout app, MOVE. In October 2000, the small Hunter Valley town of Aberdeen, New South Wales, became the scene of one of the most horrific crimes in Australian history. John Price was brutally murdered in his home by his partner, Katherine Knight, an abattoir worker with a long, history of domestic violence against the men in her life but with no criminal record to show for this. What police discovered inside the house shocked even the most seasoned investigators: Knight had skinned, decapitated, and cooked parts of her partner, creating a horrific crime scene that remains etched in true crime history. Katherine Knight was the first, and to this day only, woman in Australian history to be sentenced to life imprisonment without parole. In this episode of True Crime Conversations, Gemma Bath sits down with author Roje Augustine, who spent three years researching Knight's life to unpack her upbringing in Aberdeen, her fascination with the abattoir kill rooms, and the escalation of her violent relationships.
