In this episode of Whiskey@Work, Mark and Rob dig into the newly released Jack Daniel's 14-Year-Old Tennessee Whiskey, one of the oldest and rarest expressions Jack has ever put on the shelf. They break down the surprising history of Jack's age-stated whiskeys, why the brand dropped age statements for decades, and what led them back to long-aged bourbon in today's market. Plus, the guys talk about Chris Stapleton's Traveller becoming the first official whiskey of Major League Baseball, and a new addition to the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection: E.H. Taylor Bottled-in-Bond. Along the way, there's a little roadside confession, a look ahead to the Sturgis Jack Tasting event, and a bold new concept: the Mountain West Pork Butt-Off. Hosted on Acast. After a long detour through tequila country, the boys are back on the bourbon trail—and this time, they've got country music star Brandon Jones riding shotgun. In this episode of Whiskey@Work, Mark and Rob crack open Row 94, the new celebrity bourbon from Dierks Bentley, and talk all things music, whiskey, and...Chad Greenway? From activated charcoal hangover hacks to awkward Viking fan confessions, this one's got everything—including a whiskey designed to pair with cigarettes. Hosted on Acast. The tequila train keeps rollin' on Whiskey@Work! This week, Rob and Mark tackle Añejo tequila, diving into two very different bottles: Herradura Ultra and Corazón aged in Blanton's barrels. Along the way, they cough through a cold, reminisce about mezcal mishaps, argue over proof levels, and somehow squeeze in some bourbon news—including Jefferson's return to basics and Weller's big win overseas. Plus, they prep for the upcoming Mountain West Fiesta Fest with a few laughs, a few regrets, and probably too much tequila. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
It's tequila time on Whiskey@Work! Mark and Rob power through illness, questionable decisions, and Michael Jordan's oddly curvy bottle design to dive into Reposado tequila—specifically, Cincoro, MJ's premium (and possibly additive-packed) bottle. With special guest Adam Patton from The Box in Box Elder, we talk about how tequila is sneaking up on whiskey as the spirit of choice, what makes Reposado perfect for whiskey lovers, and why a sticky hand might mean your tequila isn't what it seems. Oh—and we're throwing a massive tequila-fueled party soon: Mountain West Fiesta Fest. Wrestling ring included. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
This week on Whiskey@Work, it's part two of our Tequila@Work series, and Rob and Mark dive into the world of Blanco tequila with a surprise guest—Teramana, courtesy of Dwayne The Rock Johnson. They break down Highland vs. Lowland agave, explore the magic of copper pot stills, and discover that maybe tequila has been getting a bad rap all along. There's also big whiskey news: Buffalo Trace is underwater, Maker's Mark is trying something totally new, and Wild Turkey brings an 8-year legend back to the U.S. Plus, someone drank Mark's prized bottle of Redbreast from Ireland… and we're not letting it slide. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Pour a double and buckle up for this episode of Whiskey@Work! Mark and Rob take a deep dive into the surprising differences between Buffalo Trace and Eagle Rare—two bourbons with the same mash bill but totally different vibes. Plus, they dream about sumo wrestling with a side of whiskey in Japan, relive some wild sumo suit memories, and break down the world's most expensive bourbon sale. Oh, and Rob's car crash story from the '90s makes an unexpected cameo. It's just another wild Tuesday in the Whiskey@Work studio. Cheers! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
This week on Whiskey@Work, Rob and Mark dive into the beautiful mistakes of history—those happy accidents that changed the world. From the invention of potato chips to penicillin, they break down how some of the greatest things we love today were never meant to happen—including the whiskey in their glasses. That's right, Woodford Reserve Double Oaked started as an experiment, and it turned into one of the richest, most full-bodied bourbons out there. Was it an accident? A paradox? Or just really good whiskey? Either way, grab a drink and join the fun! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Whiskey brings people together, and this episode of Whiskey@Work proves it! Rob and Mark welcome guest (and listener) Dylan Walter, who we met at the 2024 Mountain West Whiskey Festival. Dylan took us up on our open invitation to share a pour, bringing along his favorite rye whiskey—A Midwinter Night's Dram from High West Distillery in Park City, Utah.We chat about Dylan's journey into whiskey, what he does for a living, and, of course, dive into the magic of A Midwinter Night's Dram. Along the way, Mark throws in a Shakespeare quiz (because the whiskey's name has a literary twist, and why not test Rob and Dylan's English class memories?). It's a laid-back, whiskey-fueled conversation between three guys who just love a good pour. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

What we're talking about… Ashlyn Carter is a copywriting expert who offers copywriting and marketing courses for entrepreneurs and creatives Kelsey and Ashlyn discuss motherhood The special moments and reminder to stay in the present with a third child Ashlyn lays out three tips (or ingredients if you will) for starting the writing process: 1: What do you actually want to say? 2: What do people need to hear? Use research from your customer data and recycle what you already know here 3: Use frameworks that already work The best writers are really just the best editors The first draft is usually the hardest Ashlyn explains the framework she uses and how this helps her Kelsey explains how she applies her “better than nothing” technique to writing The two discuss the difficulties of writing when it feels like you have so much to say — good thing Ashlyn gave some tips here too! Figuring out your “tough love toast” Ashlyn lays out an exercise: draw out a quadrant and label each box think, said, feel, doing, then write out client examples, feedback, needs, etc. under each category. This is also a helpful tool to do while interviewing that will help you see what your clients need you to say. How to cut down extra text and fluff Ashlyn lays out her chicken nugget rule The two discuss AI and how to leverage it for your business To learn more or connect with Ashlyn, visit the links below! Rob and I don't do a lot of actual reviews of the whiskey we drink. In fact, this could technically be our first. And how an eight-year-old bourbon at around $27 a bottle can be this good was very surprising. This podcast is also the audio to our Whiskey@Work video series that you can find on YouTube and Facebook.YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeAEJadutKHZhsDiZAELaeAFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/whiskeyatwork See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
It doesn't seem very often that the government actually does much good. But if it wasn't for the Bottled-In-Bond Act of 1897, which required whiskey to be aged and bottled according to a set of legal regulations, we probably wouldn't be making videos and enjoying such a great drink. Because whiskey made before the government stepped in was really, really bad.

DEI work is emotional work. From shame and discomfort to assumed expectations about what’s “good enough,” our feelings can actually prevent us from making the change we wish to be a part of. In this episode, Erica is joined by her client, Kelsey Murphy of Whiskey & Work, to talk about her allyship journey. They talk about: The motivation for Kelsey to engage in DEI work, What it looks like to be an imperfect ally when you hold yourself to perfectionist standards, The burnout many people experienced after entering this work at a sprint pace, and How Kelsey’s commitment to allyship is manifesting in her business plans. I cannot tell you how beyond grateful I am for my career. It has given me the ability to truly pursue my dreams like designing a clothing line and candle collection and it allows me to create this beautiful life with my husband, Timmy, and Sonny. However, my multi-faceted business brings along a number of stressors which can bleed into my personal life. During my chat with Kelsey Murphy, Business and Life Coach, we discuss how to battle that negative internal dialogue we all struggle with when we feel anxious and overwhelmed. She explains that by creating a Three Year Manifesto of your dream life you can prioritize what is most important to you in your life and business. Kelsey has worked with Fortune 500 companies, like Facebook & Twitter, industry thought leaders like Marie Forleo and her BSchoolers, as well as celebrity nutritionists, coaches, and other brilliant people creating meaningful businesses and lives. Kelsey Murphy is a Business & Life Coach working with Fortune 500 companies, like Facebook & Twitter, industry thought leaders like Marie Forleo, and my personal favorite celebrity nutritionist, Kelly LeVeque. She's been featured in places like Forbes, Business Insider, and Huffington Post. When Kelsey's not coaching you can find her hosting the Whiskey & Work podcast giving her wise (and sometimes comical) advice on navigating the waters of business, life, and relationships. I’ve been a fan of Kelsey’s for a while because I love her real approach to motherhood and what it means to build a dream life. So many life coaches encourage us to build businesses and be entrepreneurs, and that’s not a bad thing, but Kelsey has some gold advice for us on how to feel successful no matter what stage of life we’re in, and whether we want to build a business or not. When I was prepping for this interview I was listening to another podcast interviewing Kelsey about a ritual she does every week that helps her build her dream life. Someone else in my office overheard and came running into my office and said: “What is that!” Send me that podcast! That is amazing! And Kelsey’s advice for us can apply no matter if you’re a new mom, an aspiring mom, or not a mom at all. If there were ever an episode to take notes on, this one would be it…unless you’re driving, of course! This region distills my all time favorite scotch, Glenfiddich. And since this is my 50th episode of of the Whiskey@Work podcast, I may just pour a glass. Thank you so much for listening! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
There are five regions of Scotland (maybe six) that produce what many consider to be the world's best whisk(e)y. Over the next five episodes I'll give you a quick tour of each region and what makes them unique. And if you'd like to watch me drink a scotch from each region, because, how exciting would THAT be, you can search Whiskey@Work on YouTube or follow us at facebook.com/whiskeyatwork. I rarely exclude any audience type from this podcastLINK.But this week, I am making an exception. This episode is for one specific type of person:the working mother (or father) of very young children.School is nearly out, and childcare is still spotty/nonexistent, and the all-important, life-saving Summer Camp is just not happening this year. To be managing children, babies, and even pregnancy whilst also working and providing for a family is to be teetering at the edge of sanity. If that’s you, I want you to know, I SEE YOU.And I want to offer you a gift this week … the gift of Kelsey Murphy, mother of two little ones, business coach and host of the Whiskey & Work podcast. Enjoy.
Back in January of 2013, I was pregnant for the second time. At 15 weeks gestation, I suffered a traumatic miscarriage at home. In this podcast, I share the story, in detail, of what happened that day. And I share the incredible silver lining that I received after losing my baby. Thank you to Kelsey Murphy of Whiskey & Work for inspiring me to share my story. In today’s world we have a lot going on with a to-do list a mile long, but when you own a business, overwhelm and stress can not only sneak in but be fully present. If you’re like me and you are a full-time mom AND business owner, then your to do list is not only long but mixes your personal tasks with your business tasks. I’m sharing the key to avoiding the feelings of overwhelm and stress when organizing and tackling your to do list. Hint...it starts with doing one thing. Life doesn’t go as planned...so you need to learn how to deal with it. What we’re talking about What To Do When Business & Life Overlap How To Prioritize Tasks On Your To Do List Celebrating Yourself & Your Wins What To Do When Business & Life Overlap It is becoming more common to work from home and like many others, I not only run my business from my home, but I have my kids with me at the same time. My to do list will have items such as doing the laundry mixed in with producing a podcast and pitching clients. Feelings of overwhelm and stress can definitely make an appearance when tasks start piling up, but if you know how to deal with them head on, you can avoid those feelings. How To Prioritize Tasks On Your To Do List Learning how to properly prioritize your tasks by due date is one of the key actions you can start taking to avoid feeling overwhelmed. Batching tasks may seem like a good idea, but it’s better to prioritize by what is due first and at times to split up your tasks in that manner. In addition to prioritizing, you should ask yourself what one thing you need to do that day to feel accomplished. Start with one task and work your way through your to do list. Celebrating Yourself & Your Wins One of my favorite new habits is celebrating my wins each and every day. Taking notes from the Whiskey & Work podcast, Kelsey shares that you should start every day by writing down 5 things you did the day before that you’re proud of. Feeling stressed over what needs to get done should be countered with feelings of celebration over what you’ve already accomplished. You define your future, but you also define your to do list and your priorities, so why not take advantage of that? As moms and business owners, it often feels like we’re under so much pressure to do every single thing perfectly, and that makes the balance between our lives and our work impossible to achieve. What is Conscious Creation and how can it help us escape this stress? How can we redefine our roles on our terms? How do we start prioritizing the things that are ideal to us, instead of forcing ourselves into obligations? On this episode, Business and Life Coach, and my good friend, Kelsey Murphy, talks about a new system she has developed to help women show up in the best ways at home and at work. Conscious creation is about intentionally and consciously defining what an ideal life looks like on a business and personal level, and then planning for it. -Kelsey Murphy 3 Things We Learned From This Episode Be intentional about creating epic moments (13:01 - 14:28)We can’t do everything with our kids, but what we can do is focus on things that will create memories for them. We need to focus on the things they can remember and treasure, and not for the sake of what we’re expected to do as parents. Find the ideal way to spend time with your kids (11:15 - 12:12)We don’t have to follow what every other mom does to spend time with their kids. We can spend quality time with them in a way and manner that we’re excited about as opposed to something that makes us feel obligated and bored. It starts with us redefining what the ideal looks like for us. When we focus on what ignites us, we receive more of it (16:16 - 18:04) When we start thinking about what we love and what makes us happy, our brains will start filtering out what doesn’t fit that vision. Our brain will be wired to start filtering in the right things and more of them will come our way. Matthew Kimberley knows how to sell through incredible story-telling and teaches others how to leverage sales in telling their story. The story of how he came into my life is one of a podcast and the love of whiskey (or whisky as Matthew prefers). He is sharing his best tips for selling, selling through emails and for finding different ways to network and connect. Matthew is genuine, 100% authentic, honest, and frank. Get ready because this episode is education, hilarious and slightly inappropriate. Get ready to find out how to make your emails provoke a reaction! What we’re talking about Figuring Out Who You Are When You Are Writing Emails The Importance Of Creating Emails That Provoke A Reaction The Story Of How Matthew And Kelsey Met Figuring Out Who You Are When You Are Writing Emails The absolute worst advice you can follow is when you hear people say that you should just be yourself when it comes to writing emails. Instead, you should focus on being the best polished version of yourself when you create content and send email your subscribers. Matthew shares how he has a work persona in the form of James Bond and often asks himself how James would react in certain situations. The Importance Of Creating Emails That Provoke A Reaction All of the emails you send should have a call to action, but even more importantly, they should provoke a reaction by the reader. Matthew wants you to ensure that your emails make people click, reply or even simply give your dog a hug. Your call to action doesn’t have to be a grand gesture, but can simply be that you want the reader to think about something specific. The Story Of How Matthew And Kelsey Met A genuine love for whiskey, or whisky and work is what brought Matthew and Kelsey together. Matthew was ready to launch his podcast which he wanted to call Work & Whisky and it wasn’t until he had it on iTunes that he saw the Whiskey & Work podcast pop up. He reached out to Kelsey and two strangers quickly became friends. Matthew says the rebranding to How To Get A Grip was well worth it since it means getting to know Kelsey. Over the last few months I’ve had so many of you reach out and ask me how I built my platform for stepmoms. You want to know how I grew this community and ultimately created a business doing what I love. A few weeks back I had the opportunity to talk all about all of this on Kelsey Murphy’s Podcast, Whiskey & Work. Kelsey Murphy is a speaker, writer and career and business coach who has worked with companies like Facebook, Google, Apple, Twitter, Toms Shoes and GapIt was actually a huge honor to be interviewed on this podcast, because it happens to be one of my favourites. Every day I have people ask me what my favourite podcasts are to listen to, and this one always makes the list. People listen to podcasts for different reasons – and personally I listen to get inspired, for personal development, to learn from other people’s successes and truthfully to get strategies on how to take this community to the next level. The Whiskey & Work Podcast does all of this for me. But it’s not just for entrepreneurs, everyone can get something out of this show! Not only did Kelsey interview me about my blog and online platform, we dove into what was holding me back in life – and when I say that I’m talking about what was holding me back from being the best stepmom I could be AND from starting to create the platform and business that I want. We also talked about my parenting values, my opinion on parenting by the book and how I stopped worrying about what other people think about what I say and do…I’m telling you all of this because Kelsey has allowed me to share the interview on this podcast too… so that’s what we’re doing today…I hope you like listening to this episode… as much as I loved recording it.Be sure to check our Kelsey’s Podcast Whiskey and Work, as well as all of the amazing content she has over on her website www.kelseymurphy.com

In this episode you’ll hear: How Kelsey made the transition from working full time to working for herself by being brave in the small moments. Kelsey talk about her breaking point and the decision to pursue her passion. How Kelsey found her passion and how her husband helped her. The value of freedom and flexibility in work and life and how Kelsy is positioning her life and business for motherhood. Kelsey's unconventional vacation and travel style. Why Dana thinks Kelsey should wear a ninja outfit and about Kelsey’s 30 day passion challenge. How passion and curiosity go hand in hand. The artists and entrepreneurs that inspired Kelsey's business Can I quote you on that? One night, after a long draining day in the office and a few too many tears, I just decided that I had to listen to my gut, and find the courage to go after what I really wanted. I had no idea what the next step was, but I found very small moments in my day and week and month to really start listening to what I really wanted to do and exploring it. It really was a journey of exploration. Before I knew it, those small moments started to gain momentum and turn into really big ones. Be brave, have courage in the small moments. That is going to make a difference. It wasn’t these big giant moments, it was small small moments of courage. You can’t just find your passion, it’s not like a random needle in a haystack. It is about deciding you want to be more passionate about life. PERIOD. You want to laugh more, you want to feel more, you want to get lost in something more. You have to decide you want to go out and create it. You have to discover and create it and the best way to do that is by dedicating a tiny bit of time a day to really focus on something you think you’ll love. Before you can go out and find your passion, you first need to go out and find your curiosity and live a bit more curiously. Its not always about reaching a goal, its often about doing something you’ve always wanted to do or be someone you’ve always wanted to be.
