We started the hour talking about the Yankees and whether their fans want to face the Astros in the playoffs or if they are trying to avoid them. Two of our Yankees fans called and neither thought they could make it to the World Series. Boomer said the AL & NL are wide open for any playoff team to make it to the World Series. Jerry returns for an update and starts with the Yankees barely beating the Twins even though they had a 10-1 lead. Francisco Lindor's wife played the National Anthem on the violin before the game. Lindor himself homered a little while later. Cal Raleigh hit 2 more home runs to make it 56 on the year. Jerry Jones was asked about the phrase, ‘glory hole'. Stephen A. Smith talked about Molly Qerim leaving ESPN. In the final segment of the hour, Gio's wife had to go into the city last night for a friend's birthday and that sounds like a nightmare.
Hour 1 We started the show with the Mets, who had a big first inning and beat the Padres. We have 11 more games to go and the Diamondbacks are right on their heels. Gio is encouraged by last night. Boomer thought he gave up on the Mets. Gio thinks the Yankees should want to play the Astros so they can pay them back. The NFL came out and said Tom Brady is allowed to be in the Raiders' coaches' booth. Boomer has a cold already, so we set the over/under for illnesses for the show this Fall/Winter. Jerry is here for his first update of the day and starts with something strange Al did on Monday that involves him being a ‘penis hypochondriac'. The Mets scored 5 in the first. The Yankees had a 10-1 lead and barely hung on to beat the Twins. Cal Raleigh hit his 55th and 56th home runs of the season. In the final segment of the hour, Gio has an odd story involving multiple men in a Penn Station bathroom. Gio has so many questions. Hour 2 The Giants play the Chiefs this week and Boomer said the Giants are going to be in for a rude awakening on offense as the Chiefs have a very good defense. The Chiefs have struggled offensively for the last 3 games. Boomer also said Brian Daboll is not getting fired during the season no matter what happens. This is actually a great time for the Giants to be playing the Chiefs. Gio said the sportsbooks are begging you to take the Giants at 5 ½. Gio thinks it's a ‘get right spot' for the Chiefs. Jerry returns for an update and starts with the sounds of the Yankees squeaking by the Twins after having a 10-1 lead and the Mets' big first inning as they beat the Padres. Nick Sirianni had to answer questions about his team being offside on the tush push. Dabo Swinney said if they're tired of winning, they can let him go. In the final segment of the hour, country singer Zach Bryan tried to fight another country artist, Gavin Adcock, at a festival. Hour 3 We started the hour talking about the Yankees and whether their fans want to face the Astros in the playoffs or if they are trying to avoid them. A Tuesday night Broadway show. Hour 4 Gio talked about taking a flight out of JFK and how expensive it cost to park but we still pay it because we want to get out of there. We also talked about choosing self-checkout over going to a cashier and how valet parking people are sometimes in cahoots with criminals. Jerry returns for his final update of the day, but first we hear from Cardi B as she said she and Stefon Diggs are having a baby. We heard from Pete Carroll on his relationship with Tom Brady. Brady is playing in some flag football game in Saudi Arabia. The Mets scored 5 runs in the first and beat the Padres. Evan Cedric Mullins homered. The Yankees had a 10-1 lead and then barely beat the Twins, 10-9. Cal Raleigh hit 2 more home runs making it 56 on the season. The Moment of The Day: Al had pain down there and used a mirror to find out what was wrong. In the final segment of the show, Mike Hill from Boomer's Foundation stopped by and told us about going to Burning Man.
Darryl Strawberry sits down with Jay to remember the late Davey Johnson—his call-up story in 1983, the swagger that flipped the Mets from “Muts” to a 108-win juggernaut, the “we're going to dominate” spring-training moment in '86, and why Davey was a players' manager who handled discipline in-house. Straw relives the Reds brawl game with Gary Carter at third and relievers in the outfield, the NLCS plane fine Davey “ripped up,” skipping a mandatory workout in Boston before the World Series, and Gary Carter's clutch in Fenway. He also opens up about speaking at Davey's funeral and his ongoing cancer advocacy. Mets history, leadership, culture, and the blueprint for winning—straight from Straw. Sal and BT debated the Yankees' postseason chances, with Sal arguing that their failure to win the division has made their road to the World Series far more difficult. He expressed disappointment in a team with the Yankees' payroll and talent not being able to beat out a division rival like the Blue Jays. BT countered that the team's injuries, particularly the loss of Gerrit Cole, should be considered, but both agreed that the Yankees' defense, inconsistent offense, and bullpen are serious concerns heading into the playoffs, especially with the added challenge of a wild card series.
Sal and BT debate the best and worst possible Wild Card opponents for the Yankees, with an emphasis on the entertainment and competitive value of each matchup. While BT pushes for a spicy, rivalry-fueled series against the Red Sox, Sal raises concerns about their ace, Garrett Crochet, and the strength of their pitching. The hosts also touch on the potential of facing the Astros or Mariners and the importance of the Yankees securing home-field advantage. The conversation revolves around the question of what a "successful" season would be for the Yankees, given their current state, with both hosts agreeing that anything less than a World Series appearance would be a letdown.

Jim is joined by friend of the pod Mike Cleary to discuss the hall of fame candidacy of former Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo. First, Jim and Mike cover the Chicago Cubs dominance from 2015-2018 and whether winning just one World Series was disappointing in retrospect (15:05). Then, they discuss Rizzo's elite defense at first base, take a deep dive into the 2016 World Series, and debate whether the Cubs should retire Rizzo's jersey (22:02). Finally, they compare Rizzo through age 26 with the likes of Freddie Freeman, Joey Votto, and Paul Goldschmidt (1:06:15), before making a final call on whether or not Rizzo belongs in the HOF (1:12:46).
Is Your Team Heading For a Win? It's officially the end of summer here in the U.S. Part of me is sad. Cooler temps mean it's time for me to hang up my wakeboard and store my boat for the season. But part of me welcomes the move to falling leaves, long sleeves, and Major League Baseball playoffs. I'm a big Dodgers fan, and I'm hoping they make it to the post-season again this year. But even if my team doesn't go, I'll still watch the playoffs and World Series–both because I'm a fan and also to see if I can predict the winning team. And while I'm no Nostradamus, I do have a bit of a superpower. After just one or two innings, I can often tell who is going to win the game. Why? Because it's usually clear that one team is trying just a little bit harder. They're not pitching any better or getting more hits–they're just more engaged. They're running down every foul ball, even when it's already crossed into the stands. They're moving toward every hit, only backing off when a teammate yells, “Mine.” From the superstars to the backup right fielder, everyone on the field is looking for ways to contribute, even when it's outside their role. It's a thrill to watch teams like this: Teams who have put their individual egos aside to win the game. I've seen the same thing happen with successful agile teams, too.Agile teams thrive when team members let go of their egos and do what needs to be done. Agile teams struggle when people stay too rigidly in their most comfortable role–a programmer who refuses to do anything but code or an architect who won't come down from the ivory tower to dirty his or her hands with actual code. The Best Agile Teams Operate without Ego“Agile teams thrive when team members let go of their egos and do what needs to be done.”I'm not saying that everyone needs to be a generalist–that would be like having your pitcher also play first base! What I am saying is if that first baseman has to field the ball, I expect the pitcher to hustle over and cover first to make the out. And if the testers are behind or someone has run into a roadblock, I expect to see anyone who is able help out.On high-performing teams, each person plays their part as best as they can, and looks for opportunities to back up their teammates when they need help.On these teams, it seems as if everyone starts each day thinking: “How can I best help the team win today?”When team members have a winning attitude, I'm willing to bet they're on the move from good to great. How to connect with AgileDad:- [website] https://www.agiledad.com/- [instagram] https://www.instagram.com/agile_coach/- [facebook] https://www.facebook.com/RealAgileDad/- [Linkedin] https://www.linkedin.com/in/leehenson/

With the league set to conclude its last few series just before teeing into the postseason, many teams across the MLB battle away in hopes of clinching a playoff spot, further extending their season for a chance at the World Series. Focusing on the Astros, the Stros wrap up their weekend series against Atlanta, taking two of the three games from the Braves and winning their first series since the Colorado Rockies roughly 3 weeks ago. Gaining the series win but slipping out of first place now one game behind Seattle, Steve shares a few takeaways from the weekend mixed with some things that need polishing if the Astros wish to reclaim their spot at the top of the division before it's too late.

The University of Nebraska Press is proud to announce the publication of Baseball in the Roaring Twenties: The Yankees, the Cardinals, and the Captivating 1926 Season by Thomas Wolf, author of The Called Shot: Babe Ruth, the Chicago Cubs, and the Unforgettable Major League Baseball Season of 1932 (Nebraska, 2020), finalist for the Seymour Medal from the Society for American Baseball Research; and coauthor, with Patricia Bryan, of Midnight Assassin: A Murder in America's Heartland. In 1926 baseball stars of an earlier era still played major roles in the game: Veteran pitcher Grover Cleveland Alexander was the hero of the 1926 World Series; Ty Cobb and Tris Speaker faced explosive allegations of game-fixing; Babe Ruth's mysterious illness and dismal 1925 season convinced many observers that Ruth was finished—over the hill. Meanwhile, new stars like Tony Lazzeri and Lou Gehrig had arrived on the scene, and the Negro Leagues were at the height of their popularity and success with Rube Foster's Chicago American Giants winning the Colored World Series of 1926. One of America's most ardent fans cheered from the White House—not the taciturn president, Calvin Coolidge, but his vibrant and well-liked wife, Grace.#yankees #cardinals #stlouiscardinals #baseball #newyorkyankees #1920s
1926 was one of the most dynamic and exciting seasons in baseball history, featuring legends like Babe Ruth, Rogers Hornsby, Grover Cleveland Alexander, and Ty Cobb. It saw a gambling scandal involving two of the greatest players in baseball history, a mid-season acquisition that changed the history of a franchise, and a parallel season in the Negro Leagues with some of the all time greats in Black Baseball history. And it all ended with an epic seven game World Series between the Yankees and the Cardinals. Author Tom Wolf joins us to talk about his book, "Baseball in the Roaring Twenties: The Yankees, the Cardinals, and the Captivating 1926 Season". The Eagles head to Kansas City for a Super Bowl LIX rematch against the Chiefs in Week 2. Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid were thoroughly embarrassed last February for the championship, and Mahomes has never lost 3 straight games at any point in his professional career. The Birds are coming off a division win at home against Dallas and have their star lineman Jalen Carter back for this game, after he was ejected from the Week 1 matchup in the Spit-Gate incident with Dak Prescott. Jalen Hurts played like MVP-Jalen and made all the right moves last Thursday Night in the opener, after the Eagles raised their Super Bowl LIX Banner. He will look to lead the team to a 2-0 start and keep the good vibes rolling with Head Coach Nick Sirianni leading the troops. The Phils dismantled the Mets in Philly this week, completing a four-game-sweep and ending New York's hopes of an NL East Title. With their Magic Number sitting at just 5 games, the Fightins are in firm control of the 2 seed in the National League, which would give them a bye for the Wild-Card Round. The Royals come to town this weekend for a 3-game set at the Bank as the red-hot Phils look to keep truckin'. Segments include: VetPhact, Prem's NFL Picks. Send us a textIn June 2022, Mark Walters suffered a stroke on the pickleball court, an ordeal that doctors said left him in the 99.9th percentile of survival with remarkable mental and physical acuity. Though he continues to live with lingering effects such as numbness and diminished taste, Mark has not only returned to the court but continues to improve his game. A lifelong athlete: U17 city table tennis champion at 14, high school tennis player, and Hall of Fame softball coach, Mark's life has always centered around sports and teaching. After 36 years as a high school English teacher, coach of 4 varsity sports, and athletic director, he now serves as a pickleball instructor at The Flying Pickle in Boise. For Mark, pickleball is more than recreation: it literally saved his life. In addition to sports, this father of 3 and grandfather of 7 played in 2 separate NCAA marching bands (University of Michigan and Michigan State University) and got to perform in the Rose Bowl and World Series.
