Happy Thanksgiving week, friends! Join The Art of Kindness podcast live from You Gotta Believe's 10th Anniversary Fundraiser in NYC for older foster kids. Host Robert Peterpaul chats with: Emmy-nominee Rosie Perez, Sherri Saum (The Fosters, Locke & Key), Charlene Tilton (Dallas), Kate Reinders (High School Musical the Musical: The Series, Wicked), Tony Award-winner J. Harrison Ghee (Some Like It Hot), meteorologist Janice Huff (NBC 4 New York), Jenna Leigh Green (Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Wicked), Ta'Nika Gibson (Ragtime), Anika Larsen (Almost Famous, Beautiful), and hosts Seth Rudetsky and James Wesley Jackson. You Gotta Believe (YGB) exists for one reason... to work toward the day when no young person leaves foster care without the unconditional lifetime commitment of a family. Our goal is to find youth permanent families so that they have the support system they need to live safely and to their highest potential. You Gotta Believe is a national organization based in New York City that focuses exclusively on finding permanent families for older youth in foster care. Since 1995, YGB has worked tirelessly to ensure that no child ages out of the foster care system without the support, love, and stability of a family. Today, nearly 400,000 children are in foster care in the U.S., with around 20,000 aging out annually. Without the stability of a family, these young people face higher risks of homelessness, unemployment, and other hardships. YGB is committed to changing that reality. Since 1995, YGB has trained thousands of parents, licensed over 750 families, and facilitated nearly 400 adoptions of older youth, offering lifelong support to ensure family permanence. Tackling Sweet Gum Balls: A Homeowner's Dilemma Solved

Do You Bag-A Nut? Sweet Gum Ball Picker Review   In this episode Craig and Kevin review the Bag-A-Nut sweet gum ball picker. Kevin has several sweet gum trees in his yard and the number of balls they drop is a staggering amount. It winds up being a pretty big issue during certain times of the year, and this new picker is a game changer. If you've got sweet gum trees, you'll want to listen to this episode. Or, if you have nut orchards, this might be an episode that you'll want to listen to as well! Introduction: In this episode of the Homeowner Show, hosts Kevin Hackett and Craig Williams dive deep into the challenges of dealing with sweet gum trees and their pesky gumballs. As homeowners, they've faced the frustration of these spiky, stubborn balls clogging up their yards and causing issues with their lawn equipment. But fear not, they've discovered a game-changing solution that could be a lifesaver for fellow homeowners dealing with the same problem. The Sweet Gum Ball Dilemma: Sweet gum trees are known for their beautiful foliage and impressive shade, but their gumballs can be a real nightmare for homeowners. Kevin shares his personal experience with the issue, explaining how the gumballs would get caught in his zero-turn mower's belts, leading to costly repairs and downtime. The situation had become so problematic that he was willing to invest in a solution. The Baganut Solution: Enter Baganut, a company that has developed a unique tool specifically designed to tackle sweet gum balls and other troublesome nuts and fruits. Kevin discovered this product after extensive research and was impressed by its effectiveness. The Baganut picker is a simple yet ingenious device that uses a rolling wheel with tines to scoop up the gumballs and deposit them into a collection hopper. The Baganut Picker: Kevin walks us through the different models available from Baganut, ranging from a 12-inch push model to a 36-inch pull-behind option. The larger models even feature collapsible crates for easy disposal of the collected gumballs. The company's customer service and return policy were also noteworthy, with a 30-day guarantee on all products except the sweet gum ball picker, which they claim no one ever returns. The Benefits and Potential: Using the Baganut picker, Kevin was able to clear his entire yard of sweet gum balls in just a few hours, a task that would have been arduous and time-consuming without the tool. He also mentions the potential for his son to use the picker to earn some extra money by offering the service to neighbors with sweet gum trees. Conclusion: The Homeowner Show has once again provided a practical solution to a common homeowner's dilemma. The Baganut picker has proven to be a game-changer for Kevin, and it could be the answer for many other homeowners struggling with the nuisance of sweet gum balls. By sharing this innovative product, the hosts hope to empower their audience to tackle this challenge and reclaim their yards with ease. Robert Ratliff sits down with me to talk about his fatherhood journey. We discuss the values he looks to instill into his kids. In addition, he shares the lessons his kids taught him. After that we talk about the movie, You Gotta Believe that is based on him, his family and his 2002 Little League team. We talk about the touching moment in the film where he reads a letter from his dad. Lastly, we finish the interview with the Fatherhood Quick Five.  About Robert Ratliff The “always believing” mentality is the way Robert tries to live his life every day. A positive attitude along with never giving up is the reason why Robert is where he is today. You Gotta Believe Football Camp is a main focus for Robert; he truly loves serving and mentoring the youth. Robert loss his father at the age of 13, and while that experience was horrible his father did leave him with the everlasting three words which are “You Gotta Believe”. These three words have shaped the way Robert lives his life every day. His father was and still is a role model to him and his brother, John. John and Robert realized at an early age that they did not want their father's legacy to end in 2003, and that is why the You Gotta Believe Foundation is here today. The impact those three words have on John and Robert are immeasurable, but they also wanted to make sure other young men have the opportunity to hear those words. Although coaching at Ole Miss was very exciting and a dream come true, after three seasons, Robert decided to move back home to Fort Worth, TX. Football will always be a major part of Robert's life, and that is why You Gotta Believe and the future of the camps are so important to him. Robert, Natalie and their two boys, Wyatt and Henry, reside in Fort Worth, TX. About You Gotta Believe  You Gotta Believe is based on the inspiring true story of one team's transformational journey from district underdog to taking its place in the Little League record books. After dedicating the season to a teammate's ailing father, a group of underestimated youth baseball players from Fort Worth, Texas, takes its Cinderella run all the way to the 2002 Little League World Series—culminating in a record-breaking showdown that became an instant ESPN classic.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0r_nbHSOyDE About The Art of Fatherhood Podcast  The Art of Fatherhood Podcast follows the journey of fatherhood. 'Twas the week before Christmas, and all through the pod, hosts Greg and Jeff craved Yamamoto's nod; free agents, alas, decide on their own time, not paying heed to our recording deadline. All this is our merry way of saying that when National League Town put together this episode, the Mets had yet to sign their main free agent target. Thus, rather than dwelling on the uncertain, we devote the bulk of our holiday episode (28:00) to a replay of our golden-anniversary salute to the 1973 season — who was going, who was coming and how the Mets came on late to go from last place to first and ultimately the pennant. It was the year we were told, “You Gotta Believe,” and a half-century later, that's a sentiment we still take to heart. We also share a few fresh words on third base possibilities, bullpen construction, a welcome Spring Training innovation and the only Met pitcher who won more than he lost during the first three years of the franchise (17:30). --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/nationalleaguetown/message

In my recent interview with Regina Calcaterra she explained the drastic differences between children who are adopted from the foster care system and those who simply age out of the system.  Adopted children are 50% less likely to be arrested or become homeless, and 50% more likely to graduate college, among many other emotional and practical benefits.  In that interview, Regina recommended that anyone interested in becoming foster parents or forever parents contact an organization called You Gotta Believe.  The nonprofit helps foster children find families, provides certification and licensing for foster parents, and provides a framework for helping those parents learn to care for youth dealing with trauma and abandonment. In this episode, I'm having a conversation with three people involved with You Gotta Believe — executive director Jennifer Pinder, director of the Nobody Ages Out Youth Movement Anni Keane, and advisory board member and returning Lawful Good guest, Regina Calcaterra.  Join us as we delve into the importance of the work the organization does, how it's making positive, long-term changes in the lives of foster kids, and how you can get involved.Check out our sponsors!Hennessey DigitalMilestone FoundationTrial School7 Figure CasesLooking for other great shows? The reality is that we don't have to believe anything, but rather, our emotions and behaviors tend to follow what it is that we choose to believe, and when we believe that recovery is possible, it becomes possible. Michael Boccia chimes in with the colorful description of a cow and its tail as a way of demonstrating how we already possess much of what we need to be successful in recovery. Come along as Mahbod Seraji leads us on a familiar coming-of-age journey in a distant land threatened with revolution. At times, humorous, at others, heart-wrenching. Open your experience to the universal truths of Middle Eastern culture and see the world--your world--a little differently ~ You’re bound to recognize your brother, your parents, your friend in those once nameless faces and consider ROOFTOP's poignant message of love, courage, grief, and hope. ROOFTOPS OF TEHRAN Book Description from Mahbod’s Website:This stunning literary debut paints a vivid portrait of growing up, discovering love, and awakening to the reality of life in a nation on the verge of revolution in the 1970s.  Rooftops of Tehran opens in a middle-class neighborhood in Iran’s sprawling capital city. The rooftop of the narrator’s house – the tallest in their alley - is the perfect spot for sleeping on hot summer nights. It’s also the perfect location for stargazing, sneaking cigarettes, talking about American movies, and confiding, analyzing and agonizing through the typical trials of being a seventeen year-old boy, including being in love. This is the spot from which the narrator quietly watches his secret love, his beautiful next door neighbor Zari, promised since birth to his friend and mentor, nicknamed Doctor, a man adored and respected by the whole neighborhood.  It is from this high perch that the narrator witnesses the SAVAK's brutal hunt and arrest of Doctor and realizes the oppressiveness of the regime under which he resides.  And the rooftop is where the narrator and Zari ultimately find quiet refuge in each other after the shock of Doctor’s senseless faith ripples through their close-knit community and brings about terrible, unexpected repercussions. With the candor only an Iranian can offer, Seraji's narrative bares the enduring struggle between beauty and brutality infused into the centuries-old Persian culture while reaffirming the human experiences we all share: contentment, terror, love, helplessness, ferocity, and hope. "On the Plane with Annette Bening" Blog Excerpt (I'm glad I got to read the rest of it after speaking with Mahbod--don't miss the "Continue Reading" message at the bottom):...Wow!  Annette Bening in Iran, I thought to myself.  I looked up and suddenly noticed a cheerful, beautiful, blond lady walking toward the snack bar, happy, carefree and relaxed, talking to the person who was walking along side of her, smiling, moving her arms—great energy for someone who like me must have woken up in the wee hours of the morning to make the damn flight!  Wow, the Academy Award wining Annette Bening and Alfre Woodard, one of the most underrated actors of all time!  Both their pictures were in the paper in front of me.  The ladies checked out the meager snack bar counter, and settled for a cup of coffee.  I have to admit, I felt a little giddy being in the same room with an Oscar winning actor, but I decided to rise above my giddiness and pretend like I hadn’t noticed her.  I buried my head back in the paper.
