2025 Rerun Notes: In anticipation of this month's incoming C1E99: "Listener Picks - vol 3", we are rerunning both previous installments of the Listener Picks trilogy this month!  Today's rerun is the inaugural installment, from all the way back in 2018. It features a semi-standard intro and outro, and a standard mixtape - with the exception of the fact that every track is selected by the listeners (40 tracks - 18 contributors) - and that the intro and outro are guest-curated by a collage of 11 of those same 18 contributors. It was also, at the time, the longest non-retrospective episode in show history - and featured a long, glorious outtakes reel at the end! C1E99 will share a great many of these same attributes! It will feature 70 tracks, collectively selected by 8 listeners (6 of which also contributed to today's rerun (and 3 of which were also featured in vol 2). At just under 3.5hrs, it will also be the longest mixtape in non-retrospective Ch 1 history (even if this new record nearly doubles the [then] record which the 2018 episode set). And it will also feature a semi-standard intro and outro, largely guest-hosted by a collage of the contributing listeners. In fact, unlike today's rerun, this time every single track contributor also contribute their voices to the intro and outro (except for the one which prizes anonimity and requested a text-to-speech be used in his place). And I also anticipate 99 to feature a fairly decent outtakes reel - though not quite as robust and spectacular as today's rerun. So, where vol 2 is less a "sequel" to vol 1 per se, and more of an "omake" (or an "outtakes") of vol 1, the upcoming vol 3 will be the true sequel to today's rerun. The long-awaited "echo". The "let's do this exact same thing one more time". In fact, due to a joint failure of double-checking from both St. John and the contributing listener, C1E99 will even feature one track that was featured in today's rerun. So be on the look out for that and see if you can spot which one it is before the reveal! And yes, it even was the same contributing listener in both episodes! D'oh! :-) Lastly, as always: all the usual caveats about how much worse my production quality was back in 2018 than it is today, and not to judge the current state of NNR production quality by this rerun. If you are new, and this is your first exposure to NNR, and you enjoyed the content, but were put off by the production, either go back and listen to a recent episode, such as C1E98 or C1E96....or perhaps even better, keep your eyes peeled for C1E99, which is basically this all over again, but at 2025's far improved production quality standards! And with that, please enjoy the absolute block party that is C1E40 - Listener Picks - vol 1, and keep an eye out for the trilogy's incoming 2nd (rerun) and 3rd (fresh) installments! Cheers! Cheers! -------------------------------------------------------------- Original Show Notes: Today's broadcast is Episode 40 for Theme Thursday, December 20th, 2018. Feed will include Channels 1, 2, 3, and any future channels not yet planned. Feed will also include podcasts in high quality, stereo where applicable, and episodes will never expire off the feed. Therefore it is STRONGLY recommended that you subscribe to this Nerd Noise Radio feed and bypass all others. This one will contain all their content anyway.    Option 2: If you're ONLY interested in Channel 1  ("Noise from the Hearts of Nerds") episodes, and not in any of the other content that is or will be offered by Nerd Noise Radio, there is a Channel 1-specific feed. But it's hosted on a free account, rather than an upgraded account like the "All Channels Feed" with lower quality sound (mono, I believe), a maximum 2hrs per month of content (so if the month's episodes run longer than that, they may need to be trimmed), and episodes expire off the feed forever after 90 days. It is STRONGLY recommended for most listeners to subscribe to the All-Channels feed instead. However, if you really are only interested in Channel 1 content, here's the RSS:     http://www.buzzsprout.com/77944.rss    Our episodes will also appear on our Nerd Noise Radio YouTube Channel - just search for Nerd Noise Radio, you'll find us! Here's today's episode:    [LINK]    Additionally, there are YouTube Playlists you can follow, both an "All Channels" Feed (recommended), as well as channel-specific feeds. Loser Like Me
Corner Podcast Patreon (re)Launch!

Loser Like Me

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 10, 2025 3:01

Years ago, Not If I Reboot You First started a Patreon just to help cover hosting costs, but we ended up putting it on ice because we felt we couldn't come up with enough bonus stuff to warrant it, and because we were both in positions were we could pay for podcast hosting anyway. Nowadays - well, we can still cover costs, but NIIRYF has become part of the Corner Podcast Network, alongside Loser Like Me, The Home for Wayward OCs, and occasional other shows like Faith Full and You, The Devil, and D&D. That's more pods to host, as well as editors and sometimes title card artists to pay. So we've revived the NIIRYF Patreon and converted it into the Patreon for the entire Corner Podcast Network. What does this entail? Right now, not much. Across our shows we've got a great fanbase, but it's not a huge one. We also know that times have been tough across the board. So at this time, this is basically a soft-launch of the patreon to see how it would go. We are starting at just one tier, worth $2. The reward for that tier is a shout-out. That's all! That's all we want to commit to right now. The discord and the guest submissions for the podcasts which have those will remain open to the public. Essentially, this is a tip jar and a audience reaction gauge. But if it goes well, we've discussed things like making bonus content, releasing episodes more often on our regular feeds for some shows, and doing audience participation - but that's all topics for later. ...Okay actually, let's talk about audience participation real quick. There's an upcoming episode of NIIRYF that can make use of some listener suggestions and prompts, so! If you subscribe to our Patreon before December 11th, 2025, you will get the chance to pitch a Mega Man boss that Tanner and Lindsay will discuss on air, and potentially decide to put into the hypothetical game they are pitching. This isn't going to be a regular patron benefit YET, it's just another soft-launch element, but again, we wanna see how people respond to it. If it seems popular, great! We'll see what we can do with that more often, maybe for other shows. If not, don't worry about it! We don't expect everyone listening to this to donate to our stuff, and anything we do get will go directly to covering hosting and editing costs. But knowing that other people are willing to invest in us would help us invest more in these shows ourselves. We don't dream of being full-time podcasters, but it would be great if we had the funds to reach a little higher, you know? And even if you can't support us monetarily, it would be a huge help to tell your friends about us - having a wider audience and bigger reach would be a major boon as well. No matter how this test goes, we appreciate everyone who has listened in the past and continues listening to us today. That's what you missed on the Corner Podcast Network - thanks for stopping by, and we hope to see you again - even if we reboot you first. Bye!

“This is the moment I've been training three years for. There's been three years of a lot of hard work and hard times to get to this. This is the thing in my mind, that dream and goal that's kept me going. Once I put that into perspective, it was a lot easier to ride that wave of momentum into Worlds.”Our guest today is Angelina Napoleon — the 20-year-old NC State steeplechaser who just capped off a super impressive and long outdoor track season. In Tokyo, Angelina made her World Championships debut, ran 9:18 in the heats to advance, and then came back with a 9:17 in the final to finish ninth overall — and as the top American in the women's steeplechase. That finish crowns a year where she lowered her PB from the 9:50s all the way down to 9:10, finished third at NCAAs, and proved she belongs on the global stage. What stands out about Angelina isn't just the times, it's her perspective: she left Tokyo proud, grateful, and already hungry for more. She talked about staying calm in the chaos, adapting to challenges, and soaking up the love from her family and friends as she raced halfway across the world. Now, as she heads back to grass and cross country season, we're hoping this makes you a fan of her going forward.____________Host: Chris Chavez | @chris_j_chavez on InstagramGuest: Angelina Napoleon | @angelinanapoleon on InstagramProduced by: Jasmine Fehr | @jasminefehr on Instagram____________SUPPORT OUR SPONSORSASICS: The Megablast is the Mega Man of the Blast lineup. “That's where I feel the most free: crossing the line. Running out on the track is one thing, but crossing the line doing what you set out to do with the stadium going crazy — I just want to live in that moment.” My guest for this episode is Olympic 1500m champion and now 5000m World champion Cole Hocker — fresh off one of the most thrilling redemption stories of these World Championships.Days after being disqualified in the 1500m semifinals, Cole still came back and left Tokyo with a gold medal. He went from 12th at the bell to first at the line, closing in a ridiculous 52.6 final lap and 25.5 last 200 to win in 12:58.30. With that kick, he joins Bernard Lagat and Bob Schul as the only American men ever to win a global title at 5000 meters, and he's now on the short list of legends who have captured gold in both the 1500 and the 5000 on the world stage. In this episode, we go through his whole World Championship experience. Cole talked a lot about wanting to end this championship on his own terms — and he did exactly that. Today, we dive into how he kept the faith through setbacks, how he found that gear when it mattered most, and what it means to cement his place among the greats.____________Host: Chris Chavez | @chris_j_chavez on InstagramGuest: Cole Hocker | @colehocker on InstagramProduced by: Jasmine Fehr | @jasminefehr on Instagram____________SUPPORT OUR SPONSORSASICS: The Megablast is the Mega Man of the Blast lineup. “I wanted to be calm, relaxed, and confident that I belonged here… Maybe I didn't get the outcome that I wanted, but I hit my goal of being calm, trying to stay low emotion, and float, follow, and relax — all of the words that I said to myself. I'm really proud of how I navigated that race.”Please welcome back to the show – the one and only Nikki Hiltz. And what a year it's been! Just a season after finishing seventh at the Paris Olympics, Nikki stepped onto the line at the World Championships in Tokyo and delivered the best outdoor global finish of their career: fifth in the 1500m. They ran 3:57.08, the top American in the final, and held their own in a race where Faith Kipyegon, Dorcus Ewoi, and Jessica Hull all ran sub-3:56 for medals.Yes, it's easy to get caught up in the medal talk that we pushed throughout the championships. That's what we do as pundits to talk about the sport. But for Nikki, it wasn't about the outcome as much as the process: staying calm, engaged, and believing in their plan lap after lap. That mindset carried them to a performance that showed just how close they are to the world's very best. Today, we talk about the lessons learned, the mantras that kept them grounded, and what it means to chase medals while staying true to the journey.____________Host: Chris Chavez | @chris_j_chavez on InstagramGuest: Nikki Hiltz | @nikkihiltz on InstagramProduced by: Jasmine Fehr | @jasminefehr on InstagramMentioned in this episode…Listen: Sage Hurta After Finishing 5th In The World Championships 800m Final In 1:55.89 (Third-Fastest American Ever) | Tokyo 2025 Recap + Reflections____________SUPPORT OUR SPONSORSASICS: The Megablast is the Mega Man of the Blast lineup. In today's episode of Backpacker Radio presented by The Trek brought to you by Topo Athletic, we are joined by Wesley Tils, known on trail as Megaman. Buckle in because oh boy does Megaman have an origin story. After growing up in the Mormon church, leaving the church to become a pro boxer, quitting boxing to give the church another shot and going on a missionary trip as his trial of faith, and ultimately leaving the church for good during this missionary trip, escaping onto the PCT with several church members essentially chasing him in pursuit, Megaman's path to thru-hiking was not exactly conventional. Since hitting the trails, Megaman hasn't stopped hiking, accumulating more than 15,000 miles across 18 long trails in 9 years. We learn about all his adventures, including hikes of the Maah Daah Hey Trail, River to River Trail, his self-made Mexico to Canada Trail called “the fourth crown route, and a goosebump inducing story about an aggressive encounter with a grizzly bear on the CDT. We wrap up the show with our one-minute elevator pitch to convince aliens that humanity deserves to survive, the triple crown of cable channels, share the news of Tara Dower's latest FKT, and deliver a five-minute one-minute gear review of a new free-standing tent from Hyperlite Mountain Gear. While Ghost of Yotei has gone gold and is now right around the corner, other segments of PlayStation Studios are on far less sturdy ground. Fairgames (or Fairgame$, if you like marketing) is seemingly the latest victim of an unprecedented run of bad decision-making, execution, and leadership within Sony's first party, as the upcoming shooter has shed its director, often (though not always) a dire sign for any project. Taken with recent reports (from this very show) of poor internal playtesting -- all the while Haven has already shed its major front-facing face and co-founder Jade Raymond -- we simply have to wonder whether Fairgames will ever launch at all. And if it does, does it have any potential to succeed whatsoever? Other news this week includes the rumored reemergence of Insomniac's Wolverine project, downward-revised SSD space for upcoming PS5 consoles, a fresh look at the promising Uncharted-like IO title 007: First Light, and much more. Then: Listener inquiries! Does Naughty Dog actually represent the pinnacle of game dev? How much can people twist themselves into a knot to justify piracy? What kind of pressure are studios and publishers under to adopt AI solutions? Will "Alleghany Hogs" catch on around the world? Please keep in mind that our timestamps are approximate, and will often be slightly off due to dynamic ad placement. 0:00:00 - Intro0:32:42 - Shoutout Preston0:40:47 - "Please clean up after your dog"0:52:10 - Let em oink0:54:16 - Chronos helmet = penis?0:55:36 - MGS3 correction0:56:34 - Ghost of Yotei goes gold1:03:22 - Fairgames creative director leave Haven1:28:24 - Wolverine rumors1:47:23 - PS5 reducing storage space on new units2:02:18 - 007 First Light gameplay revealed2:14:27 - IO may not publish an external game again after MindsEye2:19:13 - Hollow Knight SIlksong is only $202:27:57 - Capcom president says consoles are too becoming too expensive2:34:55 - Pragmata is not a Mega Man game2:37:01 - More games coming to PS42:44:57 - New live-action Tomb Raider2:47:04 - What We're Playing3:29:04 - Emulating new games3:44:41 - Why is Naughty Dog one of the best?3:53:42 - Call of Duty changing course on skins?4:00:24 - World's first platinum4:04:38 - Sony's pressure to integrate AI4:09:31 - Grading the show at the end Learn more about your ad choices.
