Bible Insights with Wayne Conrad

October 31 was the day when Luther unbeknownst to himself at the time lit a spark that led to a widespread recovery of the gospel of Jesus the Christ. His invitation to a debate resulted in his further discoveries of salvation by the grace of God alone through faith alone in Jesus person and work on our behalf alone based on the authority of God's glory so that a person's salvation is all for the glory of God alone. Let us celebrate this truth not as the world but as the recipients of God's gracious deeds on our behalf. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.” Romans 1:17Romans 3:22-26 "the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God's righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. Ephesians 2:8For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,Soli Deo Gloria !

#1) COMPARISON KILLS CONTENTMENTPhilippians 4:11-12 For I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me.He stepped out of contentment and into comparison. #2) COMPARISON STEALS PERSPECTIVE#3) COMPARISON DESTROYS OUR COMMISSIONIt steals, kills, and destroys.JONH 10:10 10 The enemy comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.ROMANS 12:4-8For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them.Comparison didn't just hurt him, it hurt other people. When a comparison problem becomes a competition problem it results in a collaboration problem. PSALM 139:13-1413 For you formed my inward parts;    you knitted me together in my mother's womb.14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.[a]Wonderful are your works;    my soul knows it very well.Do you believe He formed you?Do you believe He knit you together?Do you believe you are wonderfully made?Do your words align with this?Does your soul know very well?

2 Peter 1:5-9 (ESV) 5For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faithwith virtue, and virtuewith knowledge,6and knowledge with self-control, and self-controlwith steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness,7and godlinesswith brotherly affection, and brotherly affectionwith love.8For if these qualitiesare yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective orunfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.9For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that heis blind, having forgotten that he wascleansed from his former sins.

Paul closes out his second letter to the Corinthians with a plea from his heart for their spiritual growth.  Why do we today so seldom see that at a practical level in our churches?  Read 2 Corinthians 13:7-142 Corinthians 13:7-14 (NLT) 7We pray to God that you will not do what is wrong by refusing our correction. I hope we won't need to demonstrate our authority when we arrive. Do the right thing before we come—even if that makes it look like we have failed to demonstrate our authority. 8For we cannot oppose the truth, but must always stand for the truth. 9We are glad to seem weak if it helps show that you are actually strong. We pray that you will become mature. 10I am writing this to you before I come, hoping that I won't need to deal severely with you when I do come. For I want to use the authority the Lord has given me to strengthen you, not to tear you down. 11Dear brothers and sisters, I close my letter with these last words: Be joyful. Grow to maturity. Encourage each other. Live in harmony and peace. Then the God of love and peace will be with you. 12Greet each other with Christian love. 13All of God's people here send you their greetings. 14May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Three Points Paul Makes in Our Text1.      Paul's goal for them was their spiritual maturity2.      Their spiritual growth was more important to Paul than his reputation3.      Everything Paul did was for building them upWhy don't we push each other toward Spiritual Growth in the American church?1.         Individualistic society2.         Void of belief as the norm3.         Spiritual Maturity is not what we think the church is about4.         Spiritual Maturing has not been modeled wellWhat might Spiritual Modeling look like if we were to do this for others?1.     Spiritual mentoring2.     Weekly meetings3.     Higher expectations4.     Revised pastor job description

Life As It Was Meant To Be Part 4: Building Great Relationships Louie Marsh, 7-4-2021     1) PUT OTHERS ahead of myself.   “1Therefore when we could bear it no longer, we were willing to be left behind at Athens alone, 2and we sent Timothy, our brother and God's coworker in the gospel of Christ, to establish and exhort you in your faith,” (1 Thessalonians 3:1–2, ESV)   Don't be selfish; don't live to make a good impression on others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourself. Philip. 2:3 (NLT)   Not Neurotic living of performance for acceptance, which we've talked about last week, but being humble – CHOOSING to serve others because of the love of Christ!   2) Focus on ENCOURAGING others.   “2and we sent Timothy, our brother and God's coworker in the gospel of Christ, to establish and exhort you in your faith, 3that no one be moved by these afflictions. For you yourselves know that we are destined for this.” (1 Thessalonians 3:2–3, ESV)   Remember Paul was in JAIL – he had his own problems yet was concerned about others too!   “9He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it.” (Titus 1:9, ESV)   Encouragement comes in many forms – teaching (doctrine) is one, but only one way to encourage those around you – you discover what kind of encouragement to use NOT by checking with how YOU feel or what YOU think – but by discovering THEIR condition and then responding appropriately.   3) TELL the whole ugly truth!   “3that no one be moved by these afflictions. For you yourselves know that we are destined for this. 4For when we were with you, we kept telling you beforehand that we were to suffer affliction, just as it has come to pass, and just as you know.” (1 Thessalonians 3:3–4, ESV)   Paul was honest – the truth isn't always ugly – but it often is, we must tell it like it is, with love!   “18“If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you.” (John 15:18, ESV)   Jesus was honest, at times brutally honest – let's not sugar coat the truth – but tell it truthfully and skillfully.   4) OPENLY SHARE my struggles.   “7for this reason, brothers, in all our distress and affliction we have been comforted about you through your faith.” (1 Thessalonians 3:7, ESV)   Paul didn't make the mistake we often do – thinking we must remain stoic, not revealing our trouble so we can help others!  A generation ago Ministers were actually taught never to let their members see them without a tie on!!  That's not a biblical approach – instead honest openness is what we need if we are to build real relationships.   5) FREELY EXPRESS  my deepest feelings.   “8For now we live, if you are standing fast in the Lord.” (1 Thessalonians 3:8, ESV)   Paul wasn't embarrassed to open his heart and let them know how much he cared for them. How about us??   “1Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God according to the promise of the life that is in Christ Jesus, 2To Timothy, my beloved child: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.” (2 Timothy 1:1–2, ESV)   Timothy wasn't his son, yet he loved him like one and was afraid to say so in a very public forum!   …and the secret ingredient is…   PRAYER that is…   THANKFUL   “9For what thanksgiving can we return to God for you, for all the joy that we feel for your sake before our God,” (1 Thessalonians 3:9, ESV)   INTENSE   “10as we pray most earnestly night and day that we may see you face to face and supply what is lacking in your faith?” (1 Thessalonians 3:10, ESV)             Story of boy having to say his prayers, and his “Ditto” prayer!   RELATIONAL   “11Now may our God and Father himself, and our Lord Jesus, direct our way to you,” (1 Thessalonians 3:11, ESV)   DEEP   “12and may the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another and for all, as we do for you,” (1 Thessalonians 3:12, ESV)   CHRIST Centered & ETERNITY minded.   “13so that he may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints.” (1 Thessalonians 3:13, ESV)

Sermon Guide Book of Galatians Part 3 - Spiritual Leaders Big Idea: We know God personally but we follow him together. Galatians 2:1-10 1Then fourteen years later I went back to Jerusalem again, this time with Barnabas; and Titus came along, too. 2I went there because God revealed to me that I should go. While I was there I met privately with those considered to be leaders of the church and shared with them the message I had been preaching to the Gentiles. I wanted to make sure that we were in agreement, for fear that all my efforts had been wasted and I was running the race for nothing. 3And they supported me and did not even demand that my companion Titus be circumcised, though he was a Gentile. 4Even that question came up only because of some so-called believers there—false ones, who were secretly brought in. They sneaked in to spy on us and take away the freedom we have in Christ Jesus. They wanted to enslave us and force us to follow their Jewish regulations. 5But we refused to give in to them for a single moment. We wanted to preserve the truth of the gospel message for you. 6And the leaders of the church had nothing to add to what I was preaching. (By the way, their reputation as great leaders made no difference to me, for God has no favorites.) 7Instead, they saw that God had given me the responsibility of preaching the gospel to the Gentiles, just as he had given Peter the responsibility of preaching to the Jews. 8For the same God who worked through Peter as the apostle to the Jews also worked through me as the apostle to the Gentiles. 9In fact, James, Peter, and John, who were known as pillars of the church, recognized the gift God had given me, and they accepted Barnabas and me as their co-workers. They encouraged us to keep preaching to the Gentiles, while they continued their work with the Jews. 10Their only suggestion was that we keep on helping the poor, which I have always been eager to do. Hebrews 13:7-8 7Remember your leaders who taught you the word of God. Think of all the good that has come from their lives, and follow the example of their faith. 8Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. 9So do not be attracted by strange, new ideas. Your strength comes from God's grace, not from rules about food, which don't help those who follow them. Hebrews 13:17 Obey your spiritual leaders, and do what they say. Their work is to watch over your souls, and they are accountable to God. 3 Reasons You Need Spiritual Leaders: 1. To Tell you the truth (v. 3) 2. To Encourage your gifts (v. 9) 3. To Give you direction (v. 10) Discussion Questions 1.Talk about a time when you ignored wise counsel. 2. Who do you have in your life that you allow to challenge you, to “watch over your soul?” 3. Do you have trouble submitting to authority? Talk about some reasons why people resist authority in their lives. 4. Do you desire more connection and direction from your church community? Disciple Up # 199 Mercy, Tolerance & the Loss of Focus By Louie Marsh, 2-17-2021   7  “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. Matthew 5:7 (ESV)   Synonyms for merciful according to Thesarus.com: Charitable, compassionate, forgiving, gracious, humane, lenient, beneficent, bleeding heart, indulgent, liberal, softhearted, tenderhearted, tolerant.   To Stay focused I must think MATURELY.   “20Brothers, do not be children in your thinking. Be infants in evil, but in your thinking be mature.” (1 Corinthians 14:20, ESV)   “8For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. 9For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8–9, ESV)   Three Ways Not to Think:   Tribally Emotionally Faddishly   3) I need to learn how to think BIBLICALLY.   God calls disciples to think Biblically not culturally and not to simply follow my feelings or to go by my instincts. No, God calls all disciples to think clearly, critically (I mean analytically not to be critical of others).   21  but test everything; hold fast what is good. 1 Thessalonians 5:21 (ESV)   Our first impulse should not be to either accept or reject but to test!   Word test here is one of Paul's favorites. It was used of testing coins or metals in order to see whether they were genuine and of full weight.   Test everything – especially things that make me feel good while sending me off in a slightly different direction in life.   This kind of testing, comparing everything to Scripture – needs to become a deeply ingrained habit that the disciple does automatically!   1  Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. 1 John 4:1 (ESV)     I become merciful through Jesus' GIFT OF MERCY.   7  “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. Matthew 5:7 (ESV)   God is angry at my sin (so I need mercy) because he's a God of love, not because he isn't.   18  Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy. Micah 7:18 (NIV)   I don't want to accept this because I'll lose control of my life.   16  Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16 (ESV)   You will never feel accepted till you know you are accepted at your worse.   I admit I'm dying for acceptance – unconditional acceptance – that can come only from God. I give the mercy I received from Jesus but do not deserve to others because I know I don't deserve it.   4)I FREELY GIVE to others the mercy I receive but do not deserve from Jesus   7  “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. Matthew 5:7 (ESV)   Shyness and bragging are both gone.

"Excerpt from my daughter, Billie's book, Blue Ridge Moments Volume 2, subtitled (Celebrating Footsteps of A God Dependent Life)."I believe my Mom, who says that age is only a number. You are as young as you are healthy.”Living a long life is a blessing from God. My Mother believes that people focus on age, the number, much more than they should. She says that we are only as young as we are healthy. We need to live our lives taking care of ourselves spiritually, soulfully, physically, mentally, emotionally and socially. You must have your spiritual and physical health in order to live a happy life!Counting the candles on your birthday cake will mean so much more if you are not pulling around a wagon full of diseases, unhappiness, bitterness and loneliness.I had a patient that took so many maintenance medications because of multiple disease states that he had obtained over the years. He was also obese and filled with depression and anxiety. He proudly stated that he takes care of everyone else and puts himself last. I asked him what would happen if he passed away before his wife. He paused, and said, “Well, I don't know.” I told him that his wife would probably get remarried and her new husband would be helping raise his children. That statement really hit home for him. He started a walking program and walked no matter the weather. Over nine months, he lost seventy pounds and does not take any prescription medication now. He eats good nutrition and only takes vitamins.Focus on your spiritual health with God, get plenty of sleep, good nutrition, healthy relationships and consistent physical activity.Have a safe, healthy and happy day!Romans 14:7-8For none of us lives for ourselves alone, and none of us dies for ourselves alone. If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.Evelyn Minton and her daughter, Dr. Billie J. Mt. Horeb Baptist Church Sermon Podcast

Speaker or Performer: Pastor Grover Cleveland Scripture Passage(s): Ephesians 2:1-10 Date of Delivery: November 8, 2020 1 And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, 2in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, 3among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others. 4But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

1As for the one who is weak in faith, welcome him, but not to quarrel over opinions. 2One person believes he may eat anything, while the weak person eats only vegetables. 3Let not the one who eats despise the one who abstains, and let not the one who abstains pass judgment on the one who eats, for God has welcomed him. 4Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own mastera that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand. 5One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. 6The one who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord. The one who eats, eats in honor of the Lord, since he gives thanks to God, while the one who abstains, abstains in honor of the Lord and gives thanks to God. 7For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. 8For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s. 9For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living. 10Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God; 11for it is written, “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confessb to God.” 12So then each of us will give an account of himself to God.

Disciple Up #180 Shepherding: Feeding & Defending the Flock By Louie Marsh, 10-7-2020   Intro. An e-mail poured in! Disagreement on what I said about Witness Lee and the Local Church. Episode 73-74.   So what is the duty of teachers and shepherds when it comes to dealing with doctrinal error and, sometimes, out right heresy? Let's take a look!   Everyone – Leaders Included – Must Watch Their Mouth!   Yes, I am very well aware that we'll be judged for every careless word we speak. I'll go even further we are also commanded not to lie and not to condemn our brothers when we disagree with them   “34You brood of vipers! How can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. 35The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil. 36I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, 37for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”” (Matthew 12:34–37, ESV)   “4Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand.” (Romans 14:4, ESV)   “6The one who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord's.” (Romans 14:6–8, ESV)   “1“Judge not, that you be not judged. 2For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. 3Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when there is the log in your own eye? 5You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.” (Matthew 7:1–5, ESV)   TEACHERS AND SHEPHERDS HAVE DUTIES FROM GOD   FEED AND LEAD:   When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.” 16 He said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep.” 17 He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep. (Jn 21:15–17).   However, pastors and teachers aren't just commanded to teach and lead the flock. We are also called upon to defend it when necessary. James says teachers are under a stricter judgement and this tension between not being judgmental but being discerning and defending your flock from harm, is part of the weight of that judgement.   Ezekiel tells us that if the watchman doesn't warn those under his care he will be condemned. So yes, I am very aware of this and living with the weight of this greater judgement is something I agreed to take on when I became a teacher and pastor.   WATCHMEN – PROTECTING THE FLOCK   “1The word of the Lord came to me: 2“Son of man, speak to your people and say to them, If I bring the sword upon a land, and the people of the land take a man from among them, and make him their watchman, 3and if he sees the sword coming upon the land and blows the trumpet and warns the people, 4then if anyone who hears the sound of the trumpet does not take warning, and the sword comes and takes him away, his blood shall be upon his own head. 5He heard the sound of the trumpet and did not take warning; his blood shall be upon himself. But if he had taken warning, he would have saved his life. 6But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, so that the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any one of them, that person is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at the watchman's hand.” (Ezekiel 33:1–6, ESV)   “3Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints. 4For certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.” (Jude 3–4, ESV)   “5And the Pharisees and the scribes asked him, “Why do your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat with defiled hands?” 6And he said to them, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, “ ‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; 7in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.' 8You leave the commandment of God and hold to the tradition of men.”” (Mark 7:5–8, ESV)   Should We Name Names?   “11But when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned. 12For before certain men came from James, he was eating with the Gentiles; but when they came he drew back and separated himself, fearing the circumcision party.” (Galatians 2:11–12, ESV)   “19holding faith and a good conscience. By rejecting this, some have made shipwreck of their faith, 20among whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan that they may learn not to blaspheme.” (1 Timothy 1:19–20, ESV)   “16But avoid irreverent babble, for it will lead people into more and more ungodliness, 17and their talk will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, 18who have swerved from the truth, saying that the resurrection has already happened. They are upsetting the faith of some.” (2 Timothy 2:16–18, ESV)   If the people involved are public figures – like I am – the answer is yes!   THE PRICE OF LEADERSHIP:   “1Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness. 2For we all stumble in many ways. And if anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle his whole body.” (James 3:1–2, ESV)   God's judgement is based on what you know.   “20For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.” (Romans 1:20, ESV)   That's the only way His judgements can be just. He can't condemn or justify you if you didn't something was right or wrong.   “47And that servant who knew his master's will but did not get ready or act according to his will, will receive a severe beating. 48But the one who did not know, and did what deserved a beating, will receive a light beating. Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required, and from him to whom they entrusted much, they will demand the more.” (Luke 12:47–48, ESV)   “12Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw— 13each one's work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. 14If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. 15If anyone's work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.” (1 Corinthians 3:12–15, ESV)

I’m sure you’re just like me who’s been through numerous diet attempts but end up being a “failure” at it. Trust me, it took years to finally get myself into sustaining a healthy lifestyle.A number of us have failed in our diets and seem to be discouraged about our efforts. But it’s not exactly the food that’s weighing us down initially, it’s the negative self-talk. Negative self-talk is the inner voice in your mind that repeats a subtle yet demeaning running commentary. “Neurons that fire together, wire together.”  I’ll guide you through on how to become successful in losing weight and maintaining it. Turn your thoughts into a habit and get brain plasticity in action.   [3:40] Life is images of the mind expressed. Without images, there is no expression.   [4:41] I wanted to feel confident in my body and rocking a bikini. It wasn’t about being skinny or being a certain size. It was about being confident and feeling confident.   [5:15]  Understanding why all of your choices with food are built on your identity as an eater. What does your identity say about you? Could your identity be holding you back from your health goals?   [5:36] To change your behaviour, and your health for good, you need to start believing new things about yourself. Your current habits, especially the bad ones, are how you manifest your identity.    [5:57] The more that you repeat that behaviour, the more you reinforce the personality associated with that behaviour.   [6:20] You can change your identity in two steps.   [7:45] Start doing even one small thing that will move you into the direction of your goals in becoming that person that you want to be.   [10:11] You’re not paying attention to your negative self-talk.    [12:01] It will be hard to change your habits if you never change the underlying beliefs that led to your past behaviours.    [15:15] Why popular diet programs don’t work for lasting weight loss... Very few people experience sustained weight loss with that method.    [15:55] It’s also equally important to avoid eating too little or starving yourself because that can actually cause you to gain weight. When you cut calories, your body rebels by increasing your hunger and slowing down your metabolism.   [17:39] The kind of calories you consume have a big impact on the weight you gain. Different types of food are metabolized in different ways.   [18:14] What information are you giving your body by the foods that you’re eating?   [18:25] The foods that I ate, and the tactics that I used became a lifestyle. Along the way, I built healthier habits.   [19:14] The best part about the way I lost weight was that I never felt deprived or hungry. I actually enjoyed all the food I was eating.   [19:39] Guilt and stress will do more harm to your body than that chocolate cake ever will. [20:15] Take ownership about that decision you made and just move on. No self-loathing. Don’t think about it for the rest of the day and get paralyzed with guilt. [20:38] A healthy lifestyle isn’t about beating yourself up when you give in to your favourite food. It’s about finding balance.LinksVisit the show notes here for more: trudyestone.com/8For more healthy living content daily, connect with me on social media Instagram: www.instagram.com/trudyestone/Facebook: www.facebook.com/trudyestoneWhat type of dieter are you? Jocelyn and Bradley are in their happy place this week, at the intersection of science, art, and storytelling! In this episode, the hosts discuss the powerful and pervasive notion of “the two cultures”—sciences on the one hand and humanities on the other—and consider why it is so difficult and so important to move beyond this deeply entrenched dichotomy. They also discuss parallels between the writing process and the process of scientific discovery, why creativity and emotion are crucial elements of science, and how the arts and humanities help to cultivate habits of mind that are essential for success in STEM fields. Finally, the hosts introduce May’s month-long series featuring “scientists who sci-fi,” discussing the role science fiction has to play in both predicting and influencing the science of the future. Fourth Sunday in Lent Sunday, March 22, 2020 Year (cycle): A   The Collect: Gracious Father, whose blessed Son Jesus Christ came down from heaven to be the true bread which gives life to the world: Evermore give us this bread, that he may live in us, and we in him; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. Old Testament:  1 Samuel 16:1-13 1 The Lord said to Samuel, ‘How long will you grieve over Saul? I have rejected him from being king over Israel. Fill your horn with oil and set out; I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have provided for myself a king among his sons.' 2Samuel said, ‘How can I go? If Saul hears of it, he will kill me.' And the Lord said, ‘Take a heifer with you, and say, “I have come to sacrifice to the Lord.” 3Invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you shall do; and you shall anoint for me the one whom I name to you.' 4Samuel did what the Lord commanded, and came to Bethlehem. The elders of the city came to meet him trembling, and said, ‘Do you come peaceably?' 5He said, ‘Peaceably; I have come to sacrifice to the Lord; sanctify yourselves and come with me to the sacrifice.' And he sanctified Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice. 6 When they came, he looked on Eliab and thought, ‘Surely the Lord's anointed is now before the Lord.' 7But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for the Lord does not see as mortals see; they look on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.' 8Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. He said, ‘Neither has the Lord chosen this one.' 9Then Jesse made Shammah pass by. And he said, ‘Neither has the Lord chosen this one.' 10Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel, and Samuel said to Jesse, ‘The Lord has not chosen any of these.' 11Samuel said to Jesse, ‘Are all your sons here?' And he said, ‘There remains yet the youngest, but he is keeping the sheep.' And Samuel said to Jesse, ‘Send and bring him; for we will not sit down until he comes here.' 12He sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and had beautiful eyes, and was handsome. The Lord said, ‘Rise and anoint him; for this is the one.' 13Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the presence of his brothers; and the spirit of the Lord came mightily upon David from that day forward. Samuel then set out and went to Ramah. Psalm:  Psalm 23 1 The Lord is my shepherd; *        I shall not be in want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures *        and leads me beside still waters. 3 He revives my soul *        and guides me along right pathways for his Name's sake. 4 Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,   I shall fear no evil; *        for you are with me;        your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You spread a table before me in the presence of those who trouble me; *        you have anointed my head with oil,        and my cup is running over. 6 Surely your goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, *        and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. Epistle:  Ephesians 5:8-14 8For once you were darkness, but now in the Lord you are light. Live as children of light— 9for the fruit of the light is found in all that is good and right and true. 10Try to find out what is pleasing to the Lord. 11Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. 12For it is shameful even to mention what such people do secretly; 13but everything exposed by the light becomes visible, 14for everything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says, ‘Sleeper, awake!    Rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.' Gospel:  John 9:1-41 1 As he walked along, he saw a man blind from birth. 2His disciples asked him, ‘Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?' 3Jesus answered, ‘Neither this man nor his parents sinned; he was born blind so that God's works might be revealed in him. 4We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming when no one can work. 5As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.' 6When he had said this, he spat on the ground and made mud with the saliva and spread the mud on the man's eyes, 7saying to him, ‘Go, wash in the pool of Siloam' (which means Sent). Then he went and washed and came back able to see. 8The neighbours and those who had seen him before as a beggar began to ask, ‘Is this not the man who used to sit and beg?' 9Some were saying, ‘It is he.' Others were saying, ‘No, but it is someone like him.' He kept saying, ‘I am the man.' 10But they kept asking him, ‘Then how were your eyes opened?' 11He answered, ‘The man called Jesus made mud, spread it on my eyes, and said to me, “Go to Siloam and wash.” Then I went and washed and received my sight.' 12They said to him, ‘Where is he?' He said, ‘I do not know.' 13 They brought to the Pharisees the man who had formerly been blind. 14Now it was a sabbath day when Jesus made the mud and opened his eyes. 15Then the Pharisees also began to ask him how he had received his sight. He said to them, ‘He put mud on my eyes. Then I washed, and now I see.' 16Some of the Pharisees said, ‘This man is not from God, for he does not observe the sabbath.' But others said, ‘How can a man who is a sinner perform such signs?' And they were divided. 17So they said again to the blind man, ‘What do you say about him? It was your eyes he opened.' He said, ‘He is a prophet.' 18 The Jews did not believe that he had been blind and had received his sight until they called the parents of the man who had received his sight 19and asked them, ‘Is this your son, who you say was born blind? How then does he now see?' 20His parents answered, ‘We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind; 21but we do not know how it is that now he sees, nor do we know who opened his eyes. Ask him; he is of age. He will speak for himself.' 22His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jews; for the Jews had already agreed that anyone who confessed Jesus to be the Messiah would be put out of the synagogue. 23Therefore his parents said, ‘He is of age; ask him.' 24 So for the second time they called the man who had been blind, and they said to him, ‘Give glory to God! We know that this man is a sinner.' 25He answered, ‘I do not know whether he is a sinner. One thing I do know, that though I was blind, now I see.' 26They said to him, ‘What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?' 27He answered them, ‘I have told you already, and you would not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you also want to become his disciples?' 28Then they reviled him, saying, ‘You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses. 29We know that God has spoken to Moses, but as for this man, we do not know where he comes from.' 30The man answered, ‘Here is an astonishing thing! You do not know where he comes from, and yet he opened my eyes. 31We know that God does not listen to sinners, but he does listen to one who worships him and obeys his will. 32Never since the world began has it been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a person born blind. 33If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.' 34They answered him, ‘You were born entirely in sins, and are you trying to teach us?' And they drove him out. 35 Jesus heard that they had driven him out, and when he found him, he said, ‘Do you believe in the Son of Man?'* 36He answered, ‘And who is he, sir?* Tell me, so that I may believe in him.' 37Jesus said to him, ‘You have seen him, and the one speaking with you is he.' 38He said, ‘Lord, I believe.' And he worshipped him. 39Jesus said, ‘I came into this world for judgement so that those who do not see may see, and those who do see may become blind.' 40Some of the Pharisees near him heard this and said to him, ‘Surely we are not blind, are we?' 41Jesus said to them, ‘If you were blind, you would not have sin. But now that you say, “We see”, your sin remains.

Isaiah 63:7–14 7I will recount the steadfast love of the Lord,     the praises of the Lord, according to all that the Lord has granted us,     and the great goodness to the house of Israel that he has granted them according to his compassion,     according to the abundance of his steadfast love. 8For he said, “Surely they are my people,     children who will not deal falsely.”     And he became their Savior. 9In all their affliction he was afflicted,     and the angel of his presence saved them; in his love and in his pity he redeemed them;     he lifted them up and carried them all the days of old. 10But they rebelled     and grieved his Holy Spirit; therefore he turned to be their enemy,     and himself fought against them. 11Then he remembered the days of old,     of Moses and his people. Where is he who brought them up out of the sea     with the shepherds of his flock? Where is he who put in the midst of them     his Holy Spirit, 12who caused his glorious arm     to go at the right hand of Moses, who divided the waters before them     to make for himself an everlasting name,     13who led them through the depths? Like a horse in the desert,     they did not stumble. 14Like livestock that go down into the valley,     the Spirit of the Lord gave them rest. So you led your people,     to make for yourself a glorious name.

Arising during times of great persecution, apocalyptic literature is concerned with God’s revelation about the end time and the coming kingdom of God, when God will vindicate the righteous who have been persecuted.1“At that time Michael, the great prince, the protector of your people, shall arise. There shall be a time of anguish, such as has never occurred since nations first came into existence. But at that time your people shall be delivered, everyone who is found written in the book. 2Many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. 3Those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the sky, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever.”Psalm: Psalm 16My heart is glad and my spirit rejoices; my body shall rest in hope. (Ps. 16:9)1Protect me, O God, for I take ref- | uge in you;  I have said to the Lord, “You are my Lord, my good a- | bove all other.” 2All my delight is in the godly that are | in the land,  upon those who are noble a- | mong the people. 3But those who run after | other gods  shall have their troubles | multiplied. 4I will not pour out drink offerings | to such gods,  never take their names up- | on my lips. R 5O Lord, you are my portion | and my cup;  it is you who up- | hold my lot. 6My boundaries enclose a | pleasant land;  indeed, I have a | rich inheritance. 7I will bless the Lord who | gives me counsel;  my heart teaches me night | after night. 8I have set the Lord al- | ways before me;  because God is at my right hand, I shall | not be shaken. R 9My heart, therefore, is glad, and my spir- | it rejoices;  my body also shall | rest in hope. 10For you will not abandon me | to the grave,  nor let your holy one | see the pit. 11You will show me the | path of life;  in your presence there is fullness of joy, and in your right hand are pleasures for- | evermore. RSecond Reading: Hebrews 10:11-14 [15-18] 19-25Images of worship and sacrifice are used throughout Hebrews to highlight what Christ has uniquely accomplished through his death. Because we have received forgiveness through Christ’s death, we live with sincere hearts by trusting in God’s promises and encouraging love and good works from each other.11Every priest stands day after day at his service, offering again and again the same sacrifices that can never take away sins. 12But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, “he sat down at the right hand of God,” 13and since then has been waiting “until his enemies would be made a footstool for his feet.” 14For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are sanctified. [15And the Holy Spirit also testifies to us, for after saying, 16“This is the covenant that I will make with them  after those days, says the Lord: I will put my laws in their hearts,  and I will write them on their minds,”17he also adds,  “I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.”18Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin.]   19Therefore, my friends, since we have confidence to enter the sanctuary by the blood of Jesus, 20by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain (that is, through his flesh), 21and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22let us approach with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23Let us hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who has promised is faithful. 24And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, 25not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.Gospel: Mark 13:1-8In the last week of his life, Jesus warned his disciples concerning trials that were to come upon them and upon the world. He exhorts the listener: Do not be alarmed.1As [Jesus] came out of the temple, one of his disciples said to him, “Look, Teacher, what large stones and what large buildings!” 2Then Jesus asked him, “Do you see these great buildings? Not one stone will be left here upon another; all will be thrown down.”  3When he was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John, and Andrew asked him privately, 4“Tell us, when will this be, and what will be the sign that all these things are about to be accomplished?” 5Then Jesus began to say to them, “Beware that no one leads you astray. 6Many will come in my name and say, ‘I am he!’ and they will lead many astray. 7When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed; this must take place, but the end is still to come. 8For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be earthquakes in various places; there will be famines. This is but the beginning of the birth pangs.”

At the prayer service, we were praying “Your will on earth as it is in heaven.”The Lord began showing me that we are:Carriers of Heaven! The Lord wants to release the Kingdom of God through us, every where we go. Living in sync with his heart and his ways, obedient to the spirit in us, releasing heaven on earth in all things. Oaks of righteousness, on display for his glory. Vessels carrying his glory into the earth / sourced from a heavenly place. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. 6And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,Ephesians 2:4BUT DO WE REALLY BELIeVE THIS?! What have we believed about who we are in Christ? What thoughts do we have toward ourselves? Our abilities Our inadequacies Our lack?We need to bring our thoughts under the judgement of the word. Hebrews 4:12-13For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.Division of Soul & Spirit - Is this me, or is this God? The Names and Titles of Jesus –  The Son of Man Episode 100 This series of the names and titles of Jesus will give us a more in-depth understanding of Jesus Christ our Lord. This is ninth in the series. The following is an outline. What name or title did Jesus purposely call himself more than any other? The Son of Man- Jesus chose that title to refer to himself 50 times, not counting the times it is repeated in the gospel Son of Man = ben Adam = son of a Human Son of God = Divine The Son of Man= human----Jesus was the 2nd Adam-----God called Ezekiel “son of man” 90 times 1) no article 2) Ezekiel was a typology of Jesus-80 parallels Johns Rev Who is the Antichrist? Many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh; any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist! 2 John 1:7 The Son of Man title is so much more than Christ was human Dan 2 40And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise. 41And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay. 42And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken. 43And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay. 44And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever. 45Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure. Dan 7 12As concerning the rest of the beasts, they had their dominion taken away: yet their lives were prolonged for a season and time. 13I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. 14And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed. 27And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him. In the days of the fourth kingdom, the Roman Empire The Son of Man will come who is the Messiah. 2. The Son of Man will establish a kingdom that will destroy all other kingdoms and be an everlasting kingdom 3. The Son of Man kingdom will come into existence when he ascends into heaven/comes to the ancient of days = God and sits on his throne 4. We learn from other prophecies that when he comes he will do away with sacrificial system/which means the destruction of the Temple and create a new covenant 5. The Son of Man will become the judge of all the earth/all other kingdoms and their inhabitants. 6. The Son of Man kingdom will not be destroyed nor will The Son of Man Be destroyed Phase 1 Jesus comes to earth calling himself The Son of Man and God bearing witness with miracles. – 50 times without counting duplication. Jesus comes proclaiming the kingdom is at hand. Jesus explains the nature of the inhabitants of the kingdom and the nature of the kingdom itself parable after parable – Many of these explanations are totally contrary to what they believed Daniel taught about the Son of Man and the coming kingdom. Phase 2 Jesus begins to lay the bombshells that will destroy most of what the Jews believed about The Son of Man. The Son of Man is not just the Messiah, He is God. Luke 5 The Son of Man is Devine 17And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judaea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them. 18And, behold, men brought in a bed a man which was taken with a palsy: and they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before him. 19And when they could not find by what way they might bring him in because of the multitude, they went upon the housetop, and let him down through the tiling with his couch into the midst before Jesus. 20And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee. 21And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this which speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone? 22But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts? 23Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and walk? 24But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house. 25And immediately he rose up before them, and took up that whereon he lay, and departed to his own house, glorifying God. Luke 12 The Son of Man is Devine 5Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless? 6But I say unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple. 7But if ye had known what this meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless. 8For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day. 14Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him, how they might destroy him John 9 Son of Man is the Son of God and divine 34They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out. 35Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God? 36He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him? 37And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee. 38And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him. Son of Man is the son of God and divine He receives worship from human beings. He's worshiped as a baby Matthew eight is worshiped by the leper Matthew nine he's worshiped by the woman Matthew 15 he's worshiped Matthew 28 is worship by the disciples Revelation 5 is worshiped in heaven by the heavenly host He's worshiped in John 9:35 Phase 2 Jesus begins to lay the bombshells that will destroy most of what they believed about The Son of Man. The Son of Man is not just the Messiah, He is God. 2. The Son of Man who is the Messiah and God in the flesh is going to die. Matthew 16 13When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? 14And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. 15He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? 16And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 21From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day. 22Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee. Luke 18:31Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished. Luke 9:44Let these sayings sink down into your ears: for the Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men. Luke 18:31Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished. John 12 King James Version (KJV) 23And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified. 32And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. 33This he said, signifying what death he should die. 34The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth forever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man? Phase 2 Jesus begins to lay the bombshells that will destroy most of what they believed about The Son of Man . The Son of Man is not just the Messiah, He is God. The son of man who is the Messiah and God in the flesh is going to die. Phase 3 His ascension and glorification and receiving a kingdom because of his death, burial and resurrection The Son of Man at His ascension is glorified and received the  kingdom Son of Man Daniel 7 13“In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. 14He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all nations and peoples of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed. The ascension of The Son of Man John 6:62 What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before? Mat 26:64 Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven. Act 7:56 And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God Phase 2 Jesus begins to lay the bombshells that will destroy most of what they believed about The Son of Man . The Son of Man is not just the Messiah, He is God. The son of man who is the Messiah and God in the flesh is going to die. Phase 3 The Son of Man at His ascension and glorification and receiving a kingdom because of his death, burial and resurrection The Son of Man at His ascension is glorified and received the  kingdom Phase 4 The Son of Man is now the Judge of all humanity John 5 :27 And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man Matthew 26 57Those who had arrested Jesus took him to Caiaphas the high priest, where the teachers of the law and the elders had assembled. 58But Peter followed him at a distance, right up to the courtyard of the high priest. He entered and sat down with the guards to see the outcome. 59The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death. 60But they did not find any, though many false witnesses came forward.  Finally, two came forward 61and declared, “This fellow said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it in three days.’” 62Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus, “Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?” 63But Jesus remained silent. The high priest said to him, “I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God.” 64“You have said so,” Jesus replied. “But I say to all of you: From now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.”[e] 65Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, “He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard the blasphemy.66What do you think?” “He is worthy of death,” they answered. • 67Then they spit in his face and struck him with their fists. Others slapped him 68and said, “Prophecy to us, Messiah. Who hit you?” SO WHAT! Hebrews 4 14Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven,[f] Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. 16Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Ephesians 2:1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; 2Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: 3Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. 4But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, 5Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) 6And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: 7That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. 8For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9Not of works, lest any man should boast.

This is the ninth class on the book of Hebrews. This Bible class was taught at the Pilot Point Church in Pilot Point Texas. The following is the outline of the class JESUS OUR PROPITIATION 4:14 -10:18 Chapter 4 An Exhortation to Enter God’s Rest “Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands” Difficulties with the word “rest” Definition: anything which God initiates and brings to a conclusion 1st Rest: Gen 1&2 creation started and completed. Was God tired? 2nd Rest: Moses leads God’s people out of the bondage to the promised land Jesus Ἰησοῦς Mat 1:21 "She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins." Mat 1:22 Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet: Mat 1:23 "BEHOLD, THE VIRGIN SHALL BE WITH CHILD AND SHALL BEAR A SON, AND THEY SHALL CALL HIS NAME IMMANUEL," which translated means, "GOD WITH US." Yahshua ַ הוֹשׁוּﬠ ְי -1) The first element is YAH, which is the commonly accepted abbreviated form of YHVH 2) The interesting word group that starts with YAH then the Hebrew verb (shua), meaning to be saved or delivered. -Yahshua is the name Joshua is a compilation of two elements. -Why Joshua? “Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands” Difficulties with the word “rest” Definition: anything which God initiates and brings to a conclusion 1st Rest: Gen 1&2 creation started and completed. Was God tired? 2nd Rest: Moses leads God’s people out of the bondage to the promised land 3rd Rest: Jesus leads people out of the bondage of sin to the promised land of heaven Rev 14:13 13 Then I heard a voice from heaven say, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them.” Hebrews 4 (NIV) 4 Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it. 2For we also have had the good news proclaimed to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because they did not share the faith of those who obeyed 3Now we who have believed enter that rest, just as God has said, “So I declared on oath in my anger, ‘They shall never enter my rest.’ “And yet his works have been finished since the creation of the world. 4For somewhere he has spoken about the seventh day in these words: “On the seventh day God rested from all his works.” 5And again in the passage above he says, “They shall never enter my rest.” • 6Therefore since it still remains for some to enter that rest, and since those who formerly had the good news proclaimed to them did not go in because of their disobedience, 7God again set a certain day, calling it “Today.” This he did when a long time later he spoke through David, as in the passage already quoted: "Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.” 8For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day. 9There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; 10for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works,[e] just as God did from his. 11Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience. 2 WARNINGS TO MAKE US MORE DILIGENT 1. THE WORD - 12For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. 1 Thessalonians 5:23- God will save your body soul and spirit. 2. God - 13Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. THE OLD TESTAMENT SACRIFICE 13Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. JESUS OUR PROPITIATION 4:14 -10:18 JESUS OUR GREAT HIGH PRIEST 4:14 –16 Look back 1. Hebrews 1:3…When He had made purification of sins, 2. Hebrews 2:17-18 Therefore, He had to be made like His brethren in all things, so that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. 18For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted. 3. Hebrews 3:1 Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our confession Jesus is our Great High Priest 14Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. 16Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Jesus our Great High Priest Hebrews chapter 5 Hebrews 5:1-10 • 4 things necessary to be a Priest. 1. Class ---- mankind vs. 1a 2. Service ---- something to offer. Vs. 1b 3. This is the eighth class on the book of Hebrews. This Bible class was taught at the Pilot Point Church in Pilot Point Texas. The following is the outline of the class. Jesus the Son is greater than Moses Recap of Chapter 3 verses 1-6 Moses and Jesus were the only two Apostles of God sent to be exodus leaders. vs. 1 Both were faithful ln carrying out their Apostleship vs. 2 Jesus was worthy of greater honor because he created the Israelite race while Moses  was an Israelite- Moses did not make men, children of God, but Jesus does vs 3-4 Moses was a servant as an exodus leader, but Jesus is a Divine Son vs. 4 If we want to follow Jesus, our exodus leader, all the way into the promised land of heaven we need: 1. A hope of salvation to the degree that you glory in it. 2. An outspoken faith Hebrews 3(NKJV) 6but Christ was faithful as a Son over His house—whose house we are, if we hold fast our confidence and the boast of our hope firm until the end.  7Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says:  “Today, if you will hear His voice, 8 Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, In the day of trial in the wilderness, 9Where your fathers tested Me, tried Me, And saw My works forty years. 10Therefore I was angry with that generation, And said, ‘They always go astray in their heart, And they have not known My ways.’ 11So I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest.’” Hebrews 3(NKJV) 6but Christ was faithful as a Son over His house—whose house we are, if we hold fast our confidence and the boast of our hope firm until the end. 7Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you will hear His voice, 8 Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, In the day of trial in the wilderness, 9Where your fathers tested Me, tried Me, And saw My works forty years. 10Therefore I was angry with that generation, And said, ‘They always go astray in their heart, And they have not known My ways.’ 11So I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest.’” 2 ways you can test God 1st way is to trust God – this is a good way. For example a missionary’s prayer. 2nd way is to not believe/trust God – this is a bad way – this is how the Israelites did it – To question God’s motives. Hebrews 3(NKJV) 6but Christ was faithful as a Son over His house—whose house we are, if we hold fast our confidence and the boast of our hope firm until the end. 7Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you will hear His voice, 8 Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, In the day of trial in the wilderness, 9Where your fathers tested Me, tried Me, And saw My works forty years. 10Therefore I was angry with that generation, And said, ‘They always go astray in their heart, And they have not known My ways.’ 11So I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest.’” Numbers 30 (NASB) 1Then Moses spoke to the heads of the tribes of the sons of Israel, saying, “This is the word which the LORD has commanded. 2If a man makes a vow to the LORD, or takes an oath to bind himself with a binding obligation, he shall not violate his word; he shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth. 3“Also if a woman makes a vow to the LORD, and binds herself by an obligation in her father’s house in her youth, 4and her father hears her vow and her obligation by which she has bound herself, and her father [a]says nothing to her, then all her vows shall stand and every obligation by which she has bound herself shall stand. 5But if her father should forbid her on the day he hears of it, none of her vows or her obligations by which she has bound herself shall stand; and the LORD will forgive her because her father had forbidden her. 10Therefore I was angry with that generation, And said, ‘They always go astray in their heart, And they have not known My ways.’ 11So I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest.’” Hebrews 3(NKJV) 12Take care, brethren, that there not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart that falls away from the living God. 13But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called “Today,” so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. 14For we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our assurance firm until the end, 15while it is said, “TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE, DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS, AS WHEN THEY PROVOKED ME.” 16For who provoked Him when they had heard? Indeed, did not all those who came out of Egypt led by Moses? 17And with whom was He angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? 18And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who were disobedient? 19So we see that they were not able to enter because of unbelief. Chapter 4 an exhortation to enter God’s rest Hebrews 4 (NIV) 4 Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it. “Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands” Difficulties with the word “rest” Definition: anything which God initiates and brings to a conclusion 1st Rest: Gen 1&2 creation started and completed. 2 Corinthians 7:2-13 (English Standard Version)  2 Make room in your hearts for us. We have wronged no one, we have corrupted no one, we have taken advantage of no one. 3I do not say this to condemn you, for I said before that you are in our hearts, to die together and to live together. 4I am acting with great boldness toward you; I have great pride in you; I am filled with comfort. In all our affliction, I am overflowing with joy.  5For even when we came into Macedonia, our bodies had no rest, but we were afflicted at every turn— fighting without and fear within. 6But God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus, 7and not only by his coming but also by the comfort with which he was comforted by you, as he told us of your longing, your mourning, your zeal for me, so that I rejoiced still more. 8For even if I made you grieve with my letter, I do not regret it—though I did regret it, for I see that that letter grieved you, though only for a while. 9As it is, I rejoice, not because you were grieved, but because you were grieved into repenting. For you felt a godly grief, so that you suffered no loss through us.  10For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death. 11For see what earnestness this godly grief has produced in you, but also what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what longing, what zeal, what punishment! At every point you have proved yourselves innocent in the matter. 12So although I wrote to you, it was not for the sake of the one who did the wrong, nor for the sake of the one who suffered the wrong, but in order that your earnestness for us might be revealed to you in the sight of God. 13Therefore we are comforted.        And besides our own comfort, we rejoiced still more at the joy of Titus, because his spirit has been refreshed by you all.

Just like we don't get saved automatically, we don't prosper automatically. There are actions we must take to be saved, and there are actions we must take to prosper, to partake of God's plan to prosper us, just like God's plan to save us. There is a grace, there is also mercy if we mess up, He will forgive us, set us back on the right path, and help us out of the jam we have gotten ourselves into. This verse is the cornerstone for Biblical Prosperity. This is the goal, if we can’t do what this verse says, then we have room to grow.2 Corinthians 9:8 And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed;Corinthians 9:8 (Amplified Bible)8And God is able to make all grace (every favor and earthly blessing) come to you in abundance, so that you may always and under all circumstances and whatever the need be self-sufficient [possessing enough to require no aid or support and furnished in abundance for every good work and charitable donation].Ephesians 2:8 (New American Standard Bible) 8For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;We are saved by Grace, we know that salvation grace is available to every man, but not every man receives it. We know from Romans 10, that every man must hear about salvation, must then believe in Jesus, and is not saved until they confess with their mouth. These are the steps to receive anything by Faith from God. (Which is the only way we can receive anything from Him)Romans 10:8-17James 2 tells us that faith without works (corresponding actions) is dead, or useless. If we believe that it is God’s will to prosper us, then we must make our words and our actions line up with that belief if we are to experience that grace. Just like the mercy of God comes at a price (we must show mercy to others) so this grace comes at a price. We must obey God’s Word in our finances, we must walk in love.Malachi 1:6-14 is where God tells them to try and pay their taxes with their “Life support lamb”, their useless sacrifices, like they were bringing to Him. We are supposed to honor Him with our best. If people treated the government like they treat God most times, they would be in jail.Malachi 3 – bring the tithes into the storehouse. If we’re not tithing, we’re robbing from God. If we rob from someone and give to someone in need, are we not still robbing? We would still be a thief, punishable by law. We can’t expect God’s blessings when we’re robbing from Him.There are laws in place, that we can not overcome in and of ourselves. That we can not overcome even with our faith. You can’t believe yourself to be a bird and fly off your roof, even so, in the same way, you can’t wreck your finances and expect all your debts to be wiped out overnight, in and of yourself. Just like we have learned to overcome gravity with lift, we can overcome our mistakes with Grace. But only through God’s way of doing things. He is gracious and will help us out of situations, but it will be in His way, not our own.We can come out of any mess we’ve gotten in, the 1st step is a decision, to admit if we’ve done wrong, and gotten ourselves into it. Then a repentance from those things, a declaration to do things God’s way from here on out. Then we must line up our actions with that declaration. Begin tithing to the storehouse if we’ve not, plan on giving special offerings when God leads us to. If we need to learn more about the natural side, get some books on finances, take a course. If we just need to discipline ourselves and our spending, get to it! It may be that we just need to do something else, put our hands to something that God can bless. Nothing will change about our situation until we change. We can do it!! Phil 4:13. Just like salvation awaits any man that will believe, confess, then act, so prosperity awaits any child of God that will believe, confess, then act on it.Click here to go the the site where you can view the whole sermon outline, listen online, or download to your computer.

Psalm 122A Song of Ascents. Of David. 1I was glad when they said to me,    "Let us go to the house of the LORD!" 2Our feet have been standing   within your gates, O Jerusalem! 3Jerusalem— built as a city   that is bound firmly together, 4to which the tribes go up,   the tribes of the LORD,as was decreed for Israel,   to give thanks to the name of the LORD. 5There thrones for judgment were set,   the thrones of the house of David.  6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem!   "May they be secure who love you! 7Peace be within your walls   and security within your towers!" 8For my brothers and companions’ sake   I will say, "Peace be within you!" 9For the sake of the house of the LORD our God,   I will seek your good.

1 Timothy 4 Instructions to Timothy  1The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. 2Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. 3They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth. 4For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, 5because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer. 6If you point these things out to the brothers, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, brought up in the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed. 7Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives' tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. 8For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.  9This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance 10(and for this we labor and strive), that we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, and especially of those who believe.  11Command and teach these things. 12Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity. 13Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching. 14Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through a prophetic message when the body of elders laid their hands on you.  15Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. 16Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.
