In the midst of life’s busyness, God invites us to step away into a quiet place and rest in His presence. Mark 6:31 shows that even Jesus, fully God and fully man, sought moments of stillness—sometimes with those He loved. Welcoming quiet allows our souls to recalibrate, hear God’s voice, and find true peace amid the noise of daily life. Highlights Jesus modeled the need for quiet and rest, inviting His followers to join Him. Quiet time isn’t just physical rest; it’s a soul-level invitation to be with God. Embracing stillness allows us to hear God’s tender voice, not our inner critic. Scripture encourages us to stop striving: Psalm 46:10, Psalm 131:2, and Jeremiah 31:3. Quiet helps us develop contentment, security, and joy in God’s presence. Practical steps: switch off distractions, focus inward, and allow God to fill your mind and heart. Regular quiet cultivates a deeper connection with God and His peace. Gift Inspiration: Crosswalk's Holiday Gift Guide Looking for a meaningful way to celebrate the season? Full Transcript Below: Welcoming the Quiet By Cindi McMenamin Bible Reading: “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” (Mark 6:31 NIV) Jesus said these words to His followers after a busy day in ministry. Perhaps He felt drained from all the demands and expectations placed upon Him from crowds of people who wanted something from Him. Perhaps He felt burdened at all there was to do, and so many people to help that He needed to get away to a quiet place with His Father in heaven. And certainly, He knew His followers could use some rest and respite as well. And that’s why He invited them to come with Him to the quiet to get some rest. If Jesus, being fully God, yet fully man, could sense His need to go away to a quiet place, then we should sense our need for the stillness and quiet as well. And I find it interesting that Jesus, while there were times He got away by Himself to be with God, in this particular verse, He invited those He loved to come away with Him. Part of Jesus’ rest and refueling was to be with those He loved—in the quiet. Intersecting Faith & Life: Do you ever sense the need to get away from it all to a quiet place where you can get some rest? Perhaps you sense that every day. But that is more than just your body’s way of saying “get some rest” or your mind’s way of saying, I need a vacation. I believe it’s our soul’s way of saying “God’s been waiting. Get away with Him.” I believe it’s Jesus’ way of saying, “Come with Me to a quiet place where we can be together.” You and I can view quiet, alone times as reminders of our loneliness and do everything we can to avoid them. Or, we can try to get to a place where we think it will be quiet, but we’ll be taking our noisy minds and selves with us. But I encourage you to welcome the quiet as a much-needed respite from the noise—and as an invitation from God who has been whispering to you: Come with Me to a quiet place and get some rest. How often do we feel we must set aside time to be with God and then feel guilty for not doing it? How often our hearts may long for a getaway with Him, not realizing that getaway is available to us every moment of the day because He indwells us and calls us to come to Him within the recesses of our hearts. “Be still and know that I am God,” says Psalm 46:10 (NIV). We can get to know Him in the stillness as we allow Him to quiet our thoughts, and we begin to focus on His presence. Psalm 46:10 in the New American Standard Bible reads: “Stop striving and know that I am God.” Having a heart at rest means we are not striving to control, not anxious or stressed about what might happen, or all that we have to do. It means we are in a place of quiet contentment, like David sang in Psalm 131:2: “I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me” (ESV). Quiet. Full. Satisfied. Secure. Is it time to slow your pace, switch off the inner chatter, and ask God to still your mind from anxiety or busyness and flood it with His peace? Is it time to close the app, shut the lid on your device, or turn off the music or the TV, and develop a heart that not only welcomes but longs for the quiet stillness? It’s there you will begin to discern your Savior’s voice, which is much more loving than your own internal critic. It is there you will hear His tender words: I have loved you with an everlasting love… I have drawn you with kindness (Jeremiah 31:3). It is there you will be assured of His promise to never leave you or abandon you (Hebrews 13:5). It is there, in His presence, that you will find fullness of joy (Psalm 16:11). Embrace the quiet of your day—or escape to it by carving it out somewhere—so you can get away with God in your heart. Close your eyes. Enjoy the stillness of the moment and the assurance of His presence. Spend some time thanking Him for breathing rest –and quiet—into your day. Thursday, 6 November 2025   For Herod had laid hold of John and bound him, and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife. Matthew 14:3   “For Herod, having seized John, he bound him, and he placed in prison for Herodias, his brother Phillip's wife” (CG).   In the previous verse, Herod exclaimed his belief that John the Immerser had risen from the dead, which is why he had the miracle powers working in him. The narrative will now explain what led to John's imprisonment. That begins with the words, “For Herod, having seized John.”   Herod himself was behind the arrest of John. One can already sense that his conscience was nagging at him as the narrative begins. Something about John's death came about because of Herod. Understanding this, the narrative continues, saying, “he bound him, and he placed in prison.”   Cambridge notes the location of this prison –   “At Machærus, in Peræa, on the eastern side of the Dead Sea, near the southern frontier of the tetrarchy. Here Antipas had a palace and a prison under one roof, as was common in the East. Cp. Nehemiah 3:25, ‘The tower which lieth out from the king's high house that was by the court of the prison.' It was the ordinary arrangement in feudal castles.”   The reason Herod put him in prison is stated as, “for Herodias, his brother Phillip's wife.”   To understand the abbreviated thought, and in anticipation of the words of the next verse, Albert Barnes states –   This Herodias was a granddaughter of Herod the Great. She was first married to Herod Philip, by whom she had a daughter, Salome, probably the one that danced and pleased Herod. Josephus says that this marriage of Herod Antipas with Herodias took place while he was on a journey to Rome. He stopped at his brother's; fell in love with his wife; agreed to put away his own wife, the daughter of Aretas, King of Petraea; and Herodias agreed to leave her own husband and live with him. They were living, therefore, in adultery; and John, in faithfulness, though at the risk of his life, had reproved them for their crimes. Herod was guilty of two crimes in this act:   Of “adultery,” since she was the wife of another man.   Of “incest,” since she was a near relation, and such marriages were expressly forbidden, Leviticus 18:16.   John was the last prophet under the Law of Moses. His duty was to call the people to repentance in preparation for the coming of the Messiah. Instead of the king turning and accepting his wrongdoing like David, he doubled down in his sin like so many of the biblical kings under the law had done.   And like so many of those kings, he acted against the Lord's prophet, attempting to silence him from publicly exposing his deeds.   Life application: Under the New Covenant, there is no Law of Moses for believers to condemn people with by living it out for them to see. However, there is the truth, like during the time of Noah, that the world is accountable to God for its actions.   Paul says, “because the law brings about wrath; for where there is no law there is no transgression” Romans 4:15. And yet, he speaks elsewhere about the law of conscience –   “...for when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do the things in the law, these, although not having the law, are a law to themselves, 15 who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and between themselves their thoughts accusing or else excusing them) 16 in the day when God will judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ, according to my gospel.” Romans 2:14-16   Because of conscience, especially since the coming of Christ and His fulfillment of the Law of Moses, it is still right for believers to call out wrongdoing in others, particularly those in positions of authority.   In the world, this has been a dicey thing to do at times. It is becoming that way again in much of the world. Like in the times of Noah, the whole world is marching towards ungodliness and actively pursuing wickedness. Despite this, believers need to stand fast on what is wholesome and morally proper.   Numerous denominations and churches have caved to the inappropriate and ungodly mores of fallen humanity. This only makes it more important for Christians to be ready to speak out concerning what is proper.   Not only are we tasked to evangelize the masses within society, but we need to do so with those who are supposedly members of the church. Let us continue to be beacons of light, even if the whole world is clamoring to be rid of us. This is right and proper, and it is what the ancients are remembered for –   “These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. 14 For those who say such things declare plainly that they seek a homeland. 15 And truly if they had called to mind that country from which they had come out, they would have had opportunity to return. 16 But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.” Hebrews 11:13-16   Lord God, despite the trouble it is bound to bring us, help us to stand firm on Your word, openly living out what is expected of us for others to see. When the chance comes for us to defend Your word or to speak against the immorality around us, may we boldly do so, knowing that there is a reward ahead for the stand we take. Amen.

Last but not least, to learn more about our strategic prayer and missions projects or to get one of my missionary biographies, visit PrayGiveGo.us! Why the Prison Pulpit? The goal is to remind everyone to pray for persecuted believers as Hebrews 13:3 teaches us to do (“Remember those who are in prison, as bound with them”). I’ve done this by sharing (imprisoned) Pastor Wang Yi’s writings in China. But since we have nothing of his written from WITHIN prison walls, I’ve turned to other persecuted ministers who have gone before, such as Richard Wurmbrand, to give us a voice, or reminders, or sermons, literally from prison. But Pastor Wang Yi was the reason why I started the Prison Pulpit series to begin with. And in December, as the anniversary of his arrest approaches, we will go back over much of what was written during that tumultuous time in late 2018. But since I’m literally in Ephesus right now, I want us to hear from another prison pulpit, specifically the words of the Apostle Paul in his letter to the Ephesians: Eph 3:14-20: For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, 16 that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith--that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Eph 6:18-20: praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, 19 and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak. Ejected from Egypt Today I also want to continue meditating on what I experienced in Egypt this past weekend. My 10+ hour ordeal happened in 7 stages (which included much standing, sitting, drinking (h20), and smoking (them): Detained at Customs for backpack search and (relaxed) interrogation. Hopeful. (Midnight-2am) “Led” through the creepy corridors of the airport, then left in the hallway. Flight booked. (2-3am) Moved to the office of a “senior” officer doing unrelated paperwork. (4-5am) Board flight (passport to staff), told I’d be met by security in Istanbul. Worried. In the air. (5-9am) Last to deplane. Escorted to terminal by security. Told to wait. Still worried what’s next. (9-10am) Told that they were waiting for more info from Egypt (yikes), but plans changed. Free! Why do so many Christians want to give more—but feel like they can't?Most of us want to be generous, but there are often barriers—spiritual, financial, or even emotional—that hold us back. Today, Ron Blue joins us to unpack five key reasons why Christians don't give more, and how we can begin climbing toward greater generosity.Ron Blue is a financial teacher, author, and co-founder of Kingdom Advisors. He has helped countless Christians apply biblical wisdom to their finances and is best known for his bestselling book, Master Your Money: A Step-by-Step Plan for Financial Contentment.Five Barriers to Generosity—and How to Overcome ThemGenerosity is one of the greatest marks of spiritual maturity, yet many Christians find themselves wanting to give more but feeling unable to do so. Over the years, most believers face five primary barriers to generosity. These form a kind of “pyramid,” with each level building on the one below it. The journey toward greater giving begins with the heart and ends with intentional planning.1. Spiritual Condition: The Foundation of GenerosityBefore generosity ever shows up in our bank accounts, it begins in our hearts. When we grasp who God is, who we are, and the grace that has been extended to us, generosity naturally flows from that understanding. The more we understand God's ownership and our role as stewards, the more we want to give. Spiritual maturity is the foundation—without it, our giving will always feel like an obligation instead of an act of worship.2. Financial Health: Creating Margin to GiveEven when our hearts are in the right place, poor financial habits can make generosity difficult. Many believers simply can't give more because they're weighed down by debt, overspending, or disorganization. It often takes time—sometimes even years—to align our finances with our convictions. That might mean getting out of credit card debt, restructuring a business, or learning to live within our means. When we get our financial house in order, we create margin for generosity to flourish.3. Vision: Seeing Where God Is WorkingPeople don't give to spreadsheets or buildings—they give to vision. When we can picture the impact of our giving, we're motivated to invest more deeply.A clear vision fuels generosity. Ask yourself: Where has God stirred my heart? What Kingdom work do I feel most passionate about? When we see how our resources can change lives—whether feeding children, funding missions, or supporting local ministries—we begin to give with joy and purpose.4. Community: Encouragement from OthersGenerosity rarely happens in isolation. We need relationships that encourage us to live open-handedly. When we surround ourselves with generous people—friends who talk about giving, pray about giving, and celebrate giving—we're inspired to do the same.Scripture reminds us that we are to “spur one another on toward love and good deeds” (Hebrews 10:24). Community reminds us that generosity isn't just an individual act—it's part of how the body of Christ functions together.5. Planning: Giving with IntentionFinally, generosity grows through intentional planning. I've seen it over and over in my work as a financial planner: when people create a plan for their giving, their generosity increases dramatically—sometimes fivefold.A plan brings clarity and purpose. It helps you set a “finish line” for lifestyle and accumulation so you can redirect more toward eternal purposes. Without a plan, even well-intentioned believers often give sporadically or reactively. With one, generosity becomes a consistent and joyful part of life.Moving Toward Greater GenerosityThese five layers—spiritual condition, financial health, vision, community, and planning—build upon each other. Each represents a step toward living and giving as God intended. So, which one are you ready to work on today? The journey toward generosity isn't about guilt—it's about grace. As we align our hearts, habits, and plans with God's purposes, we discover the joy of giving that truly reflects His character. On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:I'm considering a reverse mortgage and wondering—if I were to get one—whether my creditors could come after the proceeds. How can younger people today start building wealth? What are some practical strategies to grow financially—and how can we stay positive and motivated when so many in our generation don't seem to think that way?I run a small architecture business, but my income has been inconsistent over the past few years. My financial advisor suggested I take a salaried job to help pay down debt and stabilize our family's finances. If I do that, how should I communicate with a potential employer that I'd like to keep my business on the side—and is that even wise to do?I've been researching digital currencies and the broader move toward electronic money. With more people, including political figures, showing support for it—and with lower fees and more direct transactions—what's your take on where this is heading? My husband is 65 and retired, and I'm 56 and still working. I've heard that a spouse can collect half of the other's Social Security benefit once they reach a certain age. How do I face pain and suffering? What does a Christian say when confronted with the problem of evil? It is called the cross. The sermon today is titled "Pain & Suffering." This sermon is the third installment in our recurring series "The Struggles We Face." We open the Book of Hebrews and find a letter written to Hebrew believers under pressure—public shame, seized property, and the easy out of slipping back into what once felt safe (Judaism). The writer won't let them settle. With language that sings and arguments that cut clean, Hebrews makes one claim again and again: Jesus the Messiah is better. The book's first ten chapters build the case that Christ is greater than angels, Moses, priests, sacrifices, and even the Mosaic covenant they served. He is the radiance of God's glory and the exact imprint of His nature, our sympathetic High Priest in the order of Melchizedek, and the once-for-all sacrifice who opens the true sanctuary. The final chapters turn doctrine toward daily life—faith that endures, discipline that trains, love that acts, and worship that overflows. Along the way, five warning passages act like guardrails, not to shake assurance, but to stop drift, dullness, and the temptation to trade long-term joy for short-term relief. If you're leading a group or studying solo, we've built free resources to help you teach and apply Hebrews with confidence. Come learn why the old system, good as it was, cannot match the living Christ who intercedes for us now. In this powerful teaching, Rev. Robin-Huws Barnes explores what it truly means to walk in the fear of God — not as a ritual or legal requirement, but as a journey from fearful obedience to reverent love. The message traces the evolution of the fear of God from the Old Testament to the New Testament, showing how the concept moved from ritual fear to moral reverence and ultimately to relationship-based love through Christ Jesus.   The fear of God is not about being afraid — it's about being in awe. When love becomes the motivation, obedience becomes worship. Let your reverence move from ritual to relationship, from fear to reverent love.   Takeaways: Fear of God is not terror but awe-filled love that produces humility and obedience. Grace intensifies reverence — not as law, but as love responding to divine mercy. God desires your heart, not your checklist. The fear of God today is expressed through relationship, trust, and moral alignment with His character.   Scriptures Referenced: Deuteronomy 6:24 – The command to fear and obey the Lord for our good. Psalm 31:19 – God's goodness laid up for those who fear Him. Psalm 33:18–19 – The eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him and hope in His mercy. Ecclesiastes 12:13 – The whole duty of man: to fear God and keep His commandments. Proverbs 8:13 – The fear of the Lord is to hate evil, pride, and arrogance. Isaiah 29:13 – A warning against worship without heart. Matthew 15:1–9 – Jesus confronts ritualism among the Pharisees. Hebrews 12:28–29 – Serving God with reverence and godly fear through grace. 2 Corinthians 5:14–15 – The love of Christ compels us. Mark 10:17–22 – The rich young ruler and the shift from rule-based obedience to relationship.

Freedom happens when we focus on Jesus.• You can't be anchored to grace and swept away by shame at the same time.Quotable:• “You can't be anchored to grace and swept away by shame at the same time.”• “Shame tells you who you were — Grace reminds you who you are in Christ.”Application:• Confess your sin — If you mess up, confess up, get up, and move on! (Psalm 32:5)• Run to the Father — Tell Him your sin, trust His grace, and walk with Him.• Pray and Worship — Remember the secret friendship of God (Psalm 32:6–7).• Submit to Scripture and the Spirit — Correction brings freedom.• Don't stay in shame — Walk in freedom, not in sin.• Walk with Jesus — Freedom from sin, not freedom to sin.Connect with us:Website: https://springbaptist.orgFacebook:https://www.facebook.com/SBCKleinCampus (Klein Campus)https://www.facebook.com/SpringBaptist (Spring Campus)Need us to pray for you?
