On today's show, Dr. Bob Gill discusses "Critical incident declared at Cambridge University Hospitals with 60 patients waiting for a bed in A&E." Every day we hear a new story about the NHS in crisis: extreme waiting lists, cancer going undiagnosed, surgeries being routinely canceled, unnecessary deaths. What is going on? A decade ago, I interviewed Dr. Gill about the NHS privatization - how far has it come? Are patients suffering as a consequence? Who is responsible? Later, David Shipley discusses a new report highlighting the horrific conditions in British prisons - what can be done to improve prison so that some prisoners can be truly rehabilitated? GUEST 1 OVERVIEW: Bob is an NHS doctor & activist, producer, director, and co-writer of The Great NHS Reset. GUEST 2 OVERVIEW: David has written for the Spectator UK. He says, "In my life, I've sold forklift trucks, worked in corporate finance, produced a film, and committed a fraud. During my sentence, I was horrified by the prison system I saw. I write about that and other things. I also lecture on prison, work as a prison inspector, and do the occasional media appearance."

The movie was made at great personal expense in time and money, crowd funding £40000 and self paying an additional £20000. Bob is passionate about the NHS and universal publicly provided and available healthcare. Bob is also critical of the direction the NHS has been travelling over the last few decades, with mismanagement, waste, corruption and destruction of the doctor patient relationship. Bob highlights the increasing control of Big Pharma and the Medical Industrial Complex on the NHS and the failure (collusion) of health institutions to safeguard patients. “The purpose, values and principles — John Smale understood the importance of the soul of the company.” Bob McDonald & Bob Gill are two P&G Alumni who share many things in common, least of which is their first name. The first is no stranger to this podcast — Bob McDonald, who served as P&G's former CEO from 2009-2013, and was the United States Secretary of Veterans Affairs from 2014-2017. And our second guest is another well known Alum to many P&G Executives — Bob GIll - who served at P&G for 28 years in many senior leadership positions - from 1974 to 2002, where he had more than a few interactions with John Smale. Both of this episode's Bobs - McDonald and Gill — have a lot to share about the purpose-inspired, caring, yet demanding and principled leader that was John Smale. For this month's podcasts, we'll be hearing reflections from leaders on John Smale, P&G's former Chairman & CEO, who led P&G from 1981-1990, and served as General Motors' Chairman from 1992-1995. These conversions are in honor o f the new book "Here Forever: The Timeless Impact of John Smale on Procter & Gamble, General Motors, and the Purpose and Practice of Business" (by Rob Garver), available now. While John Smale passed away in 2011 - he is arguably one the most influential leaders of the modern era, growing P&G more than six-fold in his tenure. And yet, Smale is largely unknown to many leaders guiding American and global businesses today. John's leadership in developing a vision for corporate purpose was decades ahead of its time. This was a book years in the making by not just the author, but many of some of the biggest leaders in business. “Here Forever” is a compelling and insightful read we'd highly recommend, and will make a great holiday gift for the admired, or aspiring leaders in your life. Igor Pershin had a near-death experience which made him take stock of his priorities and decide to give back in some way. This wake-up call sent him back to university to pursue postgraduate studies in the environment at Melbourne University, an addition to his Marketing degree, which acted as a springboard for his climate change activism career, spanning Beyond Zero Emissions, 350.org and ultimately founding his own non-profit, Less Meat Less Heat. Igor's focus was carbon-conscious eating, which opened up opportunities for him to present at UN climate conferences in Paris and Bonn, speak on the TEDx stage, and even develop an app. Interestingly, burnout forced Igor to take stock of his own health and understand the deeper systemic origins of environmental and human-health imbalances, where formal studies into nutrition and functional medicine led to his understanding that human health is directly linked to the health of our soils. He admittedly states that he was wrong about his non-profit and that, as Bob Gill says, “it's not the cow, it's how”, and discusses how his experience led him on a path away from the climate 'fight' and toward seeking solutions, finding permaculture and regenerative agriculture which integrates animals as vital roles in the building of soil health. Following Sadhguru along the Cauvery Calling trip across India to activate farmers and their communities to shift towards regenerative agriculture principles, he further deepened his passion in this space, which ultimately led him to seek out Zach Bush and Farmer's Footprint. Igor is currently the operations manager of Farmer's Footprint Australia and runs Natural Filters, sustainable bamboo charcoal water filters for the home, as well as a digital marketing consultancy specialising in solar energy. "Doctors for Assange began writing to governments in late 2019 warning that Julian Assange was in a fragile state of health, and could die in prison. We have repeatedly called for his release on urgent medical grounds. Since then, medical experts who examined Julian Assange testified in court to the seriousness of his medical condition. They explained that he would not survive oppressive prison conditions, and his extradition to the United States was denied on those grounds. The High Court subsequently stood by the medical findings, and ruled that the medical evidence could not be challenged. Meanwhile, having won his case, Julian Assange remains in the very conditions that caused and perpetuated his precarious state of health in the first place. With appeals set to drag on for years, unless Julian Assange is released from prison, there is every reason to expect his condition to deteriorate, potentially dramatically so. Given the medical evidence that is openly on the table now, Doctors for Assange warns that Julian Assange may not survive the appeal process." Companies across the globe are placing a much greater focus on sustainability and decarbonization in their manufacturing and production processes. This is true across the Asia-Pacific region. In this initial podcast in our Asia-Pacific Sustainability & Decarbonization (S&D) series, I'm joined by ARC Advisory Group's General Manager for Southeast Asia, Bob Gill and Emerson's Director of Strategic Planning, Sustainability & Decarbonization for Asia Pacific, Pravin Raj to discuss the trends, practices, and technologies that companies are following to drive their strategies. In this episode, we explore Emerson's Sustainability Framework, key factors driving S&D initiatives, types of transformations, emissions management strategies, early successes, lithium battery & hydrogen production trends, and some of the technologies to enable these initiatives. Visit the Sustainability & Decarbonization section on Emerson.com and connect with Emerson's Asia-Pacific Sustainability & Decarbonization experts in your country. Transcript Jim: Hi everyone. This is Jim Cahill with another "Emerson Automation Experts" podcast. Globally, we are seeing an increasing emphasis on sustainability & decarbonization as countries, corporations and communities further define and implement their roadmaps to achieve net zero / carbon neutrality and operate in a more sustainable way. At the moment, this is nowhere more apparent than in Asia Pacific. Based on a Bloomberg NEF report, out of the $755B the world invested in low-carbon technologies (e.g. renewable energy, electrified transport, hydrogen, carbon capture, sustainable materials, etc) in 2021, 42% of that was invested in China, Japan, India and Korea alone, with China increasing its investment by 60% compared to the prior year. We are launching an Asia Pacific Sustainability & Decarbonization Podcast Series to take a closer look at trends in the region and to discuss with experts on the technologies and applications that are key to enabling companies to achieve their decarbonization goals. Today, in the very first of this series of podcasts, I'm joined by Pravin Raj, Director of Strategic Planning, Sustainability & Decarbonization from Emerson Automation Solutions Asia Pacific and Bob Gill, General Manager for Southeast Asia for the ARC Advisory Group, to discuss the sustainability and decarbonization trends we are seeing in the Asia Pacific region and how Emerson is supporting our customers in this space. Welcome Pravin and Bob! Pravin: Hi Jim and Bob. Excited to be here. Bob: Hi Jim and Pravin. Glad to be part of this discussion. Jim: Pravin, it's great to have you here with us. Let's begin by asking you to share your background and path to your current role with our listeners. Pravin: Thanks Jim. I am based in Singapore, and I manage both Strategic Planning and Sustainability & Decarbonization for Emerson Automation Solutions Asia Pacific. Prior to joining Emerson in Singapore, I was based in the United Kingdom and Azerbaijan, where I worked as an Offshore Installation Engineer and later as a Project Manager, responsible for leading the engineering, design, procurement, construction and commissioning of offshore oil & gas platforms. Empowering a more environmentally responsible planet is ingrained in Emerson's purpose. I am inspired and passionate about how we help customers across some of the world's most essential industries make measurable sustainability progress, and am grateful that I can contribute towards that in my current role. Jim: Thanks Pravin …And Bob, could you also give us a brief intro about yourself? Bob: Yes, sure. I manage ARC Advisory Group's business operations and market research activities in Southeast Asia. ARC provides technology research, advisory and consulting services to industrial automation and software suppliers as well as to end-user companies in the manufacturing, infrastructure and energy sectors. The British National Health Service (NHS) once stood as an internationally renowned example of a tax-funded health system that delivered public-health services to millions of British citizens, lifting a huge burden from the sick. However, the rise of neoliberal policies in the United Kingdom has targeted the NHS to become the latest victim of a U.S.-U.K. economic trade deal that would put health care services in the hands of private U.S. corporations. This means that private U.S. healthcare corporations would capitalize on the taxpayer funded budget, “creating private insurance-style funding pools” similar to how healthcare is conducted in the U.S.In this segment of The Watchdog, host Lowkey is joined by Bob Gill -- family doctor, NHS campaigner and director of the film The Great NHS Heist -- who argues that the NHS is heading towards becoming a ”two-tier system that will be lower quality, more expensive, bureaucratic, with perverse incentives that damage professionalism, patients, taxpayers and the privately insured, who risk claims being denied or capped, as we see clearly in America.”Gill's film makes clear parallels between the U.S. healthcare system and how it's making its way into the NHS. For example, the film exposes how the transition of control of these budgets to insurance companies is now presided over by “Simon Stevens as Chief Executive of NHS England since 2014, formerly president of global expansion for UnitedHealth,” America's largest private health insurance conglomerate. This new system also puts the once-private patient data into the hands of Big Tech giants --  outsourced data-systems and pharmaceutical companies that will market their drugs to patients while incentivizing prescriptions for medical doctors. The corporate takeover of the NHS is already having dire effects on an already economically struggling society, especially in the post-COVID era, with patients being forced to pay for more out-of-pocket costs that are handing major profits to U.S. healthcare and insurance companies.   “The comprehensive range of NHS services salami, sliced down to a remnant of poor standard emergency care in fewer locations. For non-urgent care the choices will be to go without treatment, pay out of pocket or buy top-up insurance,” Gill wrote in 2020.MintPress News is a fiercely independent, reader-supported outlet, with no billionaire owners or backers. Dr. Gill explains, clearly and thoroughly, how our healthcare is being taken from us and given to private companies in order to fleece us for our money--and, even more devastatingly, to let those who can't afford healthcare die. He breaks down the strategies used by corporations, by YOUR governments and by the media to slyly pass legislation that hands over your health to profit-driven CEOs. Ergo21's website slogan reads, “Comfort. Joy. Happiness.” It's a fitting description for the company's product, the Ergo21 Extreme Comfort Seat Cushion, which uses advanced LiquiCell Technology to help customers sit hours and hours without aches or soreness. Company president Steve Gambhir used to drive four to six hours a day in LA traffic setting up merchant credit card processing accounts. “I tried using a different cushion every month to relieve the back pain from long hours in the car,” Steve recalls. “Finally, my wife said, ‘Why don't you design your own cushion?' so I did.” LiquiCell: – reduces the stretching and tearing of the soft tissues, thereby improving blood flow. – does not interfere with the individual's positioning or stability. – is thinner, lighter, more flexible, and more durable than gel, foam, or air. – provides unsurpassed long-term comfort to improve quality of life. LiquiCell Technology strategically places low viscosity fluid inside the cushions' ultra-thin cells to reduce discomfort associated with prolonged contact between the body and an object. The liquid stays in constant motion, letting the body glide and float. This provides instant comfort, reduces numbness and improves circulation by 150 percent. “We've had countless reviews on Amazon from people who sit for long periods in office chairs or wheelchairs,” explains Steve. “These customers report that their sores went away and they can now sit for hours without any discomfort.” Since LiquiCell performs better than gel, foam or air, it's even being used in hospital beds to prevent pressure sores and skin breakdown for patients who cannot move. Steve quickly discovered that one cushion size definitely wouldn't fit all. Ergo21's biggest challenge has been to accommodate all kinds of users and their different sizes, weights and needs, plus the seemingly endless variety of office and home chairs, car and truck seats, wheelchairs, patio chairs, and travel seats – all of which demand cushions of varying sizes and shapes. “We poured over thousands of marketplace reviews and cushion designs and every review we received for our own cushions,” says Steve. “I even called many Ergo21 users personally to see how we could improve our product line, and then it was back to the drawing board.” The result: Ergo21 now offers five cushions specifically designed for different applications. Each model reduces fatigue and helps with tail burn and buttock, hip, leg, and sciatica pain. Many of Steve's customers have tried 10 to 12 cushions before finding a Ergo21 solution, and they've contacted him about their success stories. One man who had injured his tailbone seven years ago and couldn't drive more than 10 minutes without pain called to say that the first time he tried the Sports Cushion, he drove 180 miles pain free. Ergo21 has recently introduced pillow cushion, mattress overlay and bike cushion. Another interesting fact: All Ergo21 seat cushions are proudly made in USA. Daredevil legend Bob Gill began as a motorcycle racer in 1962. Unsatisfied with the money he was making as a racer, he switched to jumping full-time in 1970. After several long jumps, including one jump 152 feet over the Cajun Canyon in Louisiana, he jumped over a set of Ryder trucks on May 10, 1973. The jump was filmed for a television commercial that was aired during Super Bowl VIII. On July 17, 1973, Bob set a world record jump of 171 feet (52 m) when he jumped over 22 cars with no landing ramp at Seattle International Raceway in Kent, WA. On August 18, 1974, Bob Gill was scheduled to attempt a world record jump over the 200-foot (61 m)-wide Appalachia Lake in Bruceton Mills, West Virginia. Ten years ago, civil war broke out in Libya which resulted in the overthrow and collapse of the government – and indeed the killing – of it’s then-leader Muammar Gaddafi. However, 20,000 foreign troops still remain in Libya, so what is the situation now? Joining us to discuss the state of Libya a decade on is an investigative journalist whose bylines include the Times and the Wall Street Journal. He’s the editor of Consortium News, Joe Lauria. And just over one year ago, Boris Johnson plunged the country into lockdown to cope with the coronavirus. Over the course of the year the virus has claimed over 125,000 lives, but now with the R-rate going down and the lockdown about to be lifted, we take time to reflect on the past 12 months. NHS doctor and producer of the ‘Great NHS Heist’, Bob Gill, joined the show to discuss the virus and its impact.

Guest: Dr. Bob Gill. We discuss the documentary, “The Great NHS Heist”, wherein Dr. Gill, a general practitioner within the NHS system, and others, talk about the imminent threat to and the covert destruction of the English National Health Service. We also talk about what we in the UK and in the US can do to better understand the situation and inform our peers about our respective situations in health care. To quote from a bit of the abstract on the film from its website: “We witnessed the new corporate managerialism and marketisation of healthcare, shrinkage of the NHS bed capacity, and transfer of assets into the private sector using Private Finance Initiative and NHS land sales. Private operators expanding their grip on the NHS, securing contracts for the provision of ancillary and then clinical services, rapidly accelerated by the 2012 Health and Social Care Act. The privatisation lobby crafted effective cover stories and carefully managed the national debate to maintain public ignorance and remained largely unchallenged by a compliant mainstream media. Successive reforms were presented as essential improvements while disguising the reality of creeping privatisation. The stage was set for the heist of NHS land, patient medical data, and the £120 billion annual tax-funded budget for US corporate raiders.” Dr. Bob Gill is a British doctor, an NHS campaigner and the producer of the crowdfunded documentary film, “The Great NHS Heist”..  FOLLOW @drbobgill, find all the information at the website TheGreatNHSHeist.com SUBSCRIBE to their YouTube channel and support the work at GoFundMe.  Around the Empire is listener supported, independent media.
