It should include: Clear goals about the job you're seeking Your elevator pitch An exit statement explaining why you're looking for a new job Eight examples of your accomplishments A list of target companies or industries You have only 5-10 seconds to capture a recruiter's attention with your resume, so make sure it clearly connects your background with your career goals. To optimize your LinkedIn profile: Use a professional headshot Craft a headline that defines who you are, not just your job title Fully utilize the 2,000 characters in your "About" section to showcase your strengths and character Include your contact information, especially your phone number, for easy communication Remember that 96% of recruiters use LinkedIn, so make sure your profile is professional and aligned with your resume Mark's approach to job searching is practical and insightful. What's your personal brand? I am an expert in helping nurturing coaching senior executives and other business professionals with a lot of ambition to reach their career goals. Now, I noticed a lot of specific words in there. So you're looking senior senior executives, and you're only looking for ambitious ones you're not looking for you don't want to help the lazy ones. lazy ones can stay away. Exactly. So if they come to you, they right off the bat. They're saying that okay, I'm willing to work at this. Yeah. So career management is a full time gig. You know, especially when you're in career transition. So you have to work at your career management. Sadly, people don't they have no idea on career management. So when you're when you're gainfully employed and you should always be managing your career, I don't want to see you disappear off LinkedIn, you don't have to be on LinkedIn as much as you did when you were in career transition. But once in a while, show me you're there it shows, do some activity, share some content, share a blog, or comment on something, or publish your own blog. ------ Be active on social media. If you avoid social media, I can't find you and you can't find them. On social media. If you haven't got LinkedIn profile, you're committing career suicide, but then not only just having a profile, you need to be active on that profile, you need to fill it in from top to bottom because it's, it's it's scroll, you can scroll all the way down. So make sure you're active on social media. Convert to the sales mode, which we talked about earlier. You are selling yourself to the market. And then make sure you have an up to date resume or CV ATS friendly. And then just keep up your network, your network you need to network network network. We're in a network age. If you don't network, that's going to bring that's going to diminish your chances of getting up to the top level. ----- ----more---- Your Intended Message is the podcast about how you can boost your career and business success by honing your communication skills. We'll examine the aspects of how we communicate one-to-one, one to few and one to many – plus that important conversation, one to self. In these interviews we will explore presentation skills, public speaking, conversation, persuasion, negotiation, sales conversations, marketing, team meetings, social media, branding, self talk and more.   Your host is George Torok George is a specialist in communication skills. About Terry McDougall: Terry Boyle McDougall is an Executive & Career Coach and CEO of Terry B. McDougall Coaching. She helps high-achieving professionals remove obstacles that keep them stuck so they can enjoy more success and satisfaction in their lives and careers. Before becoming a coach, Terry was a long-time corporate marketing executive where she led teams, developed strategies and advised senior leaders to drive business results. She is the author of Winning the Game of Work: Career Happiness and Success on Your Own Terms. She is also the host of the Marketing Mambo podcast. What We Discuss In This Episode: “Living” in that Busy Professional or Corporation world, especially when you're a high achiever, can definitely suck all the joy out of your life if you're not aware of some key ways to turn it around to find your power and joy. Instead we find ourselves in survival mode, and don't know how to turn it around for a happier more balanced life. Terry shares some ways that simple mindset changes can bring more clarity so that we can start to envision how to get to that work life we want and set some clear goals to take us there. One thing Terry say that was impactful to me is that we're often thought of as human doings and not human beings, but when we put that into the right perspective and begin to value what we bring to the table, and the areas where we have an impact and are extremely valuable, our perspective changes. We also discuss our work/home balance and how to set boundaries. This is so important. We have to learn we are worthy – worthy of taking time to ourselves and to fill up our energy cup so that we can flow into our families, give of ourselves with plenty to spare, and live a great home life with joy and confidence.  Resources from Terry McDougall: Book: https://www.tinyurl.com/gameofworkbook Connect with Terry McDougall:  Website: https://www.terrybmcdougall.com LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/terrybmcdougall Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/terrybmcdougall Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/i_am_coach_terry Podcast: https://www.marketingmambo.net   Connect with Lynne: If you are looking for a community of like-minded women on a journey - just like you are - to improved health and wellness, overall balance, and increased confidence, check out Lynne's private community in The Energized & Healthy Women's Club. EPISODE SUMMARY In this episode of Chan With A Plan, host Max Chan speaks with Willena Long, an Executive Career Coach and Senior Technical Recruiter for the past decade. In this conversation she discusses the role of a recruiter in the hiring process and what you should do when it comes to your resume and LinkedIn profile to get a recruiter's attention to get you in the running to interview for your dream job. She also shares additional strategies that have helped her own clients land dream opportunities at some of the biggest tech companies in the world.    QUOTES “[When it comes to reviewing potential candidate's LinkedIn profile] I'm going to skim at it first, so maybe 15 to 30 seconds to see if they are a good fit. If I can tell from the 30 second review, they have the titles, a few key details and keywords that are popping out to me, then I'll maybe give it a little bit more time and then do a quick reach out.” - Willena Long “If you're putting yourself out there, it should be a job that you really want. So you should want to invest the time in tailoring each resume for those jobs. A lot of companies are looking for people that can highlight their brand and not just what you do, but who you are. And so when you're doing your research on each company, you should really be researching before you apply at each company and understand their mission statement.” - Willena Long “I personally don't read [cover letters], but the hiring manager might. You're writing the cover letter for the hiring manager, more so than the recruiter in most cases. So the hiring manager is going to be more likely to read it than I would, but I wouldn't say it's a waste of time, always try to put one together if you can.” - Willena Long   TIMESTAMPS [0:52] Meet Willena [4:10] Explaining the working relationship between the recruiter and hiring manager when it comes to filling a specific role [6:46] What happens after a recruiter posts the job description of a role [7:37] Why you shouldn't care how many professionals apply for a certain role [9:35] Reapplying to a company if you were recently rejected [10:26] Moving to the next level up in your career externally than trying to do it internally [12:42] How recruiters look at LinkedIn profiles and how you should write yours to increase your chances of a recruiter reaching out to you [15:59] The main part of the resume you need to get right if you want a response on your online applications [17:07] Discussing appropriate resume length [19:13] Additional LinkedIn strategies professionals should use to help them get noticed and land their dream job [28:57] The importance of tailoring your resume for each application and how to do it effectively [31:51] The importance of cover letters for job applications [33:10] How long it takes to hear back from a recruiter after you submitted your application online [34:12] Why you shouldn't worry about the amount of applications for a role and apply anyway if it's still open [35:21] One way video interviews and advice on how to succeed at them [38:00] Common interview mistakes professionals make [43:14] Tips and advice for professionals looking to make a move this year and how they should go about their job search right now so they can get that next opportunity they are looking for [44:06] Main career challenge that Willena had to overcome to get to where she is today in her career [45:41] Contacting Willena [48:18] Outro   RESOURCES & RELEVANT LINKS Your Favorite Career Coach - Live Webinar Training Sign Up Chan With A Plan Chan With A Plan Private Facebook Group

Prior to working as a career coach, Jane worked at British Airways for almost twenty years. In the episode, our conversation with Jane revolves around job redundancies and tips to cope with them. She also discusses facts about a good candidate experience and ways to improve it through the recruitment process. It's important to provide candidates feedback and a positive experience, regardless of the outcome of the interview. How Do Companies Identify the Training and Development Needs of Employees During the Pandemic?Development is a two-way street. It is not just about the organizations giving training to individuals but also about the individuals taking ownership of development. Development is also about developing one's skillset. It is not just about developing something specifically for the organization. The individual has a responsibility as well. They must focus on developing specific skills within a time frame. The organization must focus on getting the right people with the right talent and the right skills for the right roles at the right time. Individuals can develop in many ways – Watch YouTube videos, be part of someone's Facebook, read a book, follow a blogger, or even start their own blog, engage the content of a reputed personality on LinkedIn, and more. How Virtual Meetings Affect the Working Pattern of Employees?More meetings are happening in organizations since the pandemic forced the work from home norm. This string of meetings can affect the working hours of employees. Online meetings are eating into work time. But one reason why these meetings are increasing is that virtual meetings do not provide the visual elements to understand employees' frame of mind and their body language. Employees must take a stand to decide if their presence is really needed in a meeting. Do they need to be there? What is the contribution they are making? What's the impact if they are not there? How Effective is the Survey Method to Judge the Overall Health of an Organization? Most organizations probably don't need a survey because they already know what they are doing. If they are engaging with the employees regularly, they know what the answers will be to the survey questions. Surveys can create overwhelming data, and companies don't know what to do with it. Organizations must not go on a strategy changing spree just because of the data given out by a particular survey. Just change one or two things that are most important and implement that. Choose to change things that are easy to implement and can give quicker results.Follow Jane on LinkedInProduced by: Priya BhattPodcast host: Rohan Mankad

EPISODE SUMMARY In this episode of Chan With A Plan, host Max Chan speaks with Terry McDougall, an Executive & Career Coach of Terry B. McDougall Coaching. Terry gives advice on how to position yourself for a promotion with tips such as impression management and performing for the job you want instead of the job you have. She also discusses some alternative career moves you could make if you get passed over for a promotion in order to still move your career forward. We end the discussion with what mindset shifts you have to make and what initial communication you should initiate with your manager in order to be successful in your promotion within the first 90 days.   QUOTES “I always tell people that I work with that there's really only 3 ways to add value in the workplace, you're either helping the company make money, save money or reduce risk.” - Terry McDougall [1:55] “Perform for the job that you want and not the job that you have as well. One of the things that I see a lot of times that people say is I got a lot of capabilities and if I get that next level promotion, I'll show them, and I'll say look for opportunities to show them now.” - Terry McDougall [10:25] “I think that the most important thing to do when you get promoted is get extreme clarity on what the expectations of the role are and go to your boss and say what does success look like after the first 90 days, what are your priorities for this role and really focus on that. I think it's really important also to get some quick wins.” - Terry McDougall [19:30] TIMESTAMPS [0:07] Meet Terry McDougall [1:27] Key factors why you won't get promoted [3:01] Examples of over performing [3:53] Terry's story of trying to get promoted herself [7:20] Tip on where to find your shortcomings that are hindering you for a promotion and external factors that are out of your control when it comes to getting promoted [8:33] How to use impression management in order to look like you belong at a higher level at the company [10:24] Perform for the job you want [10:56] The risk of promoting people [11:43] How to decide when to leave the company or try again if you are passed over for a promotion [14:55] The pros and cons between leaving a big company to go to a smaller company for a bigger title or do a horizontal move to another big company and try to get promoted there instead [16:10] When you should take a promotion with little to no pay raise  [18:04] Warning signs to not take a promotion [19:19] Common mistakes of the newly promoted and what to do instead [23:37] Contacting Terry [24:36] Outro RESOURCES & RELEVANT LINKS Terry B.
