From the publisher: "When Barack Obama won the White House in 2008, becoming the nation's first Black president, the stage was set for Donald Trump's eventual rise to power. Backlash Presidents shows how, throughout American history, administrations that challenge the country's racial status quo are followed by presidents who deal in racially charged politics and presidential lawlessness, culminating in impeachment crises. In this incisive book, Julia Azari traces the connections between racially transformative presidents and their successors, examining the presidencies of Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson, Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon, and Obama and Trump. When he signed long-awaited civil rights legislation in 1964, Lyndon Johnson unleashed a perfect political storm that swept Nixon into the White House. Azari demonstrates how Nixon's rhetoric, relationship to Congress, and attitudes about executive power exhibit striking parallels with Andrew Johnson and Trump. She discusses how their actions are linked to race and racialized institutions—the Department of War during Reconstruction, the FBI during the Nixon years, and elections today—and looks at what happens after impeachment, describing how the rush to establish a new order perpetuates many of the same problems as the old.Challenging the conventional wisdom about the role of norms in American democracy, Backlash Presidents reveals how normal presidential politics upholds unsustainable racial hierarchy that in turn gives rise to intense periods of instability."For information on Dr. Azari's book from Princeton University Press, head here Support our show and Reach out and Read of Tampa Bay at https://patreon.com/axelbankhistoryAxelbankHistory.com is designed by https://www.ellieclairedesigns.com/Axelbank Reports History and Today" can be found on social media at https://twitter.com/axelbankhistoryhttps://instagram.com/axelbankhistoryhttps://facebook.com/axelbankhistory

Feeling like healthcare makes early retirement impossible? It's a common belief, but often fixable with thoughtful income planning. Premium tax credits under the ACA aren't vanishing; the enhanced credits are scheduled to sunset after 2025, and the pre-2021 rules (including the ~400% FPL income cap) are slated to return in 2026 unless Congress acts. The takeaway: managing MAGI matters. In this episode, Ari Taublieb, CFP®, walks through a practical, illustrative case: a 60-year-old couple with ~$1.55M spread across taxable, pre-tax, and Roth accounts. You'll see how the source of withdrawals (e.g., harvesting from taxable accounts vs. large pre-tax distributions) can change MAGI—and therefore subsidy eligibility—potentially lowering Marketplace premiums materially. You'll also learn key HSA rules after age 65 (non-medical withdrawals are taxed as income but no 20% penalty) and what's changing for HSAs in 2026: Bronze and Catastrophic ACA plans are slated to be HSA-eligible, expanding access to tax-advantaged saving. You'll leave with a playbook: align cash-flow needs with tax brackets, plan around the 400% FPL threshold, coordinate Roth/pre-tax/taxable withdrawals, and revisit the plan annually as laws and income shift. In July 2023, during a congressional hearing on UAPs (Unidentified Aerial Phenomena), a former U.S. Navy pilot named Ryan Graves testified that he had received reports of a startling incident at Vandenberg in 2003. He described that a group of Boeing contractors operating near one of the launch facilities reportedly observed a “very large, 100-yard-sided red square” approach from the ocean and hover above a launch facility for approximately 45 seconds, before it “darted off” over the mountains. This testimony brought renewed public attention to what had long been a somewhat obscured claim in UFO lore, and raised questions about whether UAPs have been underreported in military-adjacent zones.Help us buy a camera:https://ko-fi.com/monsterfuzzSupport the pod:www.patreon.com/monsterfuzz Check out our merch:https://monster-fuzz.creator-spring.com Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/monster-fuzz--4349429/support.
In his recent testimony before Congress, former Labor Secretary and ex–U.S. Attorney Alex Acosta doubled down on his long-criticized defense of the 2008 non-prosecution agreement that allowed Jeffrey Epstein to dodge federal sex-trafficking charges and serve barely a year in a cushy county jail. Acosta told the House Oversight Committee that at the time, he believed a federal trial would have been a “crapshoot” because of what he called limited cooperation from victims and thin evidence — a claim that directly contradicts later Justice Department findings showing that dozens of victims were ready to testify. He also denied having any knowledge that Epstein would be granted work-release, despite extensive records showing the arrangement was approved during his watch. His tone was clinical and detached, as if the systemic betrayal of dozens of trafficked minors was just another bureaucratic footnote.Lawmakers on both sides were incensed, with Democrats accusing Acosta of rewriting history and showing “zero remorse” for enabling one of the most notorious predators in modern American history. Even some Republicans privately admitted that his testimony came off as evasive and self-serving. Acosta tried to shift blame to subordinates and state prosecutors, but his own department's inspector general previously concluded that he exercised “poor judgment” and gave Epstein a sweetheart deal that “violated the spirit of the law.” For the victims who have spent years fighting for justice, Acosta's congressional appearance only confirmed what they already knew — that the powerful protect their own, even when it means selling out the powerless.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:House committee releases more Jeffrey Epstein documents | Fox News
Britain's Prince Andrew says he will no longer use his royal titles amid renewed scrutiny over his ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The move follows allegations detailed in accuser Virginia Giuffre's upcoming posthumous memoir, as King Charles and Prince William reportedly urged him to step back further from royal duties. In a statement, Prince Andrew said “continued accusations” “distract from the work of the royal family,” though he continues to deny the allegations against him. In August, after Texas acceded to President Donald Trump's demand that it adopt a redistricting plan favoring Republicans, California Governor Gavin Newsom said he would fight back. He signed legislation creating Prop. 50, which asks voters to suspend California's independent redistricting maps and allow the legislature to draw new districts. "Today, we gave every Californian the opportunity to stop Trump by saying yes to our people, to our state, and to American democracy," Newsom said at the time. Supporters say the plan is a temporary but critical defense against partisan mapmaking in other states. They argue that California must step in to protect democracy nationwide and pledge that the state will restore its independent redistricting process after 2030. Critics, who include former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, contend the proposal undermines the state's voter-approved redistricting reforms, restoring the same partisan gerrymandering that California has banned. “We know American democracy is on fire, but accelerating gerrymandering only adds fuel!,” a No-on-50 ballot argument states. “[Prop. 50] claims to protect democracy, yet diminishes our communities' voices and is ineffective against any overreach of presidential power.” With voting already underway, join us to learn more about Prop. 50 and what's at stake for California and control of Congress. From the Declaration and consent of the governed to separation of powers and Federalist 51, he lays out why executive authority isn't a throne. According to a real YouTube comment from a self-identified MAGA supporter, basic grammar may be the latest casualty of the MAGA movement.Calls for the 25th Amendment to remove Donald Trump are growing louder as his mental health continues to decline — and as he increasingly behaves like a wannabe dictator, sending the military against his own people. Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker has called for it. So have multiple Democratic members of Congress. But there's just one problem: the 25th Amendment can only be invoked by Trump's own Cabinet and Vice President — and that's never going to happen. The new Supreme Court term is already packed with explosive cases — and one of the biggest could decide whether Donald Trump has the power to unilaterally impose tariffs on other countries without Congress.Donald Trump promised to release the Epstein files — and so did his Cabinet, his advisors, and his media allies. But months later, nothing. No transparency. No accountability. No files. Instead, Trump's team and House Speaker Mike Johnson appear to be blocking their release entirely. After years of division, corruption, and chaos, Americans are asking the same question: Can the United States survive Donald Trump and the MAGA movement?Text and and let us know your thoughts on today's stories!Subscribe to our YouTube channel to stay up to date on all of Farron's content: https://www.youtube.com/FarronBalancedFollow Farron on social media! This week on the Mark Levin Show, President Trump has made clear several times while he was in the Middle East that he believes his order bombing the Iranian nuclear sites was pivotal in bringing about his peace deal, including the backing of Arab/Muslim countries and the release of the 20 hostages. We shouldn't forget the names of those in our country who unleashed a relentless, vicious, and deceitful campaign against the bombing of those Iranian nuclear sites and those of us who strongly encouraged and supported it. They also trashed Trump before he acted, claiming it would divide MAGA, lead to WWIII and the death of thousands of American troops and perhaps nuclear war with China and Russia, and that Netanyahu and the Jews were trying to drag our country into a war. These liars will be remembered forever as the buffoons that they are. Later, no, PM Benjamin Netanyahu didn't prolong the Gaza war for personal political gain, these claims overlook the strategic benefits of his persistence. Netanyahu has accepted a Trump-brokered deal on his stated terms: full hostage release, dismantling of Hamas's military and governance, and Israeli troops remaining to enforce it, with U.S. backing if needed. All antisemitic, racist, and bigoted messaging and other forms of communication should be aggressively condemned. Who cares if it's Young Republicans or Young Democrats, members of Congress, media that platforms and promotes such poison, organizations that invite bigots as speakers and debaters, podcasters, comedians, and on and on. It's disgusting that some of those condemning the Young Republicans in the Politico piece, who most certainly should be condemned and removed, are as guilty as they are with their headlines, storylines, and promotion of a long list of bigots. It's sinister. The likes of Tucker Carlson, Candice Owens, Steve Bannon, and their ilk, as well as their apologists are being mainstreamed do have an impact on the minds of too many young people. Where are the top Republicans denouncing them?
