Disney got seriously weird in the 1980s! From sinister carnivals to kids shrunk down to the size of insects, we're heading back to a decade when the Mouse House was trying just about everything. Jay and Shua revisit some of Disney's strangest, darkest, most ambitious, and most memorable live-action movies of the '80s. We'll talk about the movies that pushed technology forward, discovered future stars, scared an entire generation, and helped Disney find its way toward the blockbuster era.   News Atari Retro Collections Are Coming - Atari is bringing back classic gaming experiences with collections featuring RollerCoaster Tycoon, Barbie, Toy Story, and Godzilla. Even though the episodes have leaned heavily into some very bizarre genres, he's having a lot of fun with the show and is looking forward to its final season. Shua finally got to check out the much-discussed Coyote vs. Acme, the movie that was famously shelved before eventually finding a new home. Directed by Dave Green and written by Samy Burch with James Gunn and Jeremy Slater, the film has had quite the journey before finally making its way toward audiences. MCU Location Scout MCULocationScout.com is Jay's ongoing project documenting and exploring real-world filming locations used throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe and related Marvel television productions. Through detailed research, photos, and travel guides, fans can discover where their favorite Marvel moments were filmed. Jay has been diving into Season 1 of Iron Fist, tracking down more of the locations used in the Netflix series, including some of its elusive New York City locations. You can explore the locations and see exactly where the MCU came to life at MCULocationScout.com. And don't forget to check out all of Jay's Sci-Fi Saturdays on RetroZap. It's a special origin episode for John Stewart, in which we learn all about why his dad was shooting apples off his head way back in Pilot. And the answer isn't what we expected! Sure, this one halts the momentum the series had built up with the main mystery plot but this flashback is exceptionally good, nuanced and full of incredible character work and acting. So we'll look past the interruption this time but TV shows need to quit doing this. Also: we go into a ton of Green Lantern lore, proving that most of the complaints folks online have about this one are because they've never read a comic book in their life (derogatory). Before that: the one thing that could get us interested in a Robocop TV show. Chris Hansen is running scared. James Gunn may have re-upped his DC contract. We give moviegoing advice. And so much more! X-Men '97 Is STILL Great... So Why Does Season 2 Feel Off?

X-Men '97 Season 2 has officially come to an end! After an incredible first season, did Marvel Animation manage to recapture the magic, or did Season 2 bite off more than it could chew? In this episode of SuperHero Homies, we give our full spoiler-filled review of X-Men '97 Season 2 Episodes 5-9, including the season finale, Apocalypse, Nightcrawler, the incredible action and animation, our biggest criticisms, and what we want from X-Men '97 Season 3. But first, we've got a hefty 40-minute cold open! COLD OPEN: FIRST 40 MINUTES DRAGON CON 2026 We're heading to Dragon Con starting September 3rd, and we'll be there all weekend! We're excited to experience the convention and hopefully meet some fellow SuperHero Homies along the way. If you see us wandering around Dragon Con, come say hello! SODA CITY COMIC CON We also recap our trip to Soda City Comic Con, where we had the opportunity to meet Wilson Bethel, better known as Bullseye from Daredevil and Daredevil: Born Again, and the legendary Peter Weller, star of RoboCop. We share stories from both encounters and our overall experience at the convention. ARE THE FOX X-MEN MOVIES UNDERRATED? With X-Men hotter than ever, we revisit the Fox X-Men movie franchise and ask whether these films deserve more credit. The franchise definitely had some lows, but movies like Logan and X-Men: Days of Future Past remain among the greatest comic book movies ever made. So... have we been too hard on the Fox X-Men? THE BATMAN JOINS THE DCU?! Could Matt Reeves' Batman eventually be folded into James Gunn's larger DC Universe? We discuss the possibility of Robert Pattinson's Batman sharing the screen with David Corenswet's Superman, whether that combination could actually work, and what it would mean for the future of the DCU. We also discuss our excitement for Batman: Knightfall Part 1 and the chilling new Absolute Batman Mr. Freeze origin story. LANTERNS We're loving Lanterns! Unfortunately, we haven't had enough time to review the series weekly, but we give our thoughts on what we've seen so far and why we can't wait to give the show a proper review. X-MEN '97 SEASON 2 FULL SPOILERS After the cold open, we dive into X-Men '97 Season 2 Episodes 5-9 and the finale. There's still a LOT to love about this series. The animation, voice acting, superhero action, fight scenes, comic book references, and character work remain top-notch. Certain characters and storylines are handled exceptionally well, particularly Nightcrawler, who continues to be one of our favorite characters. But Season 2 also left us frustrated. We discuss: • Apocalypse and his Season 2 storyline • The disappointing conclusion to the overarching conflict • Why certain Apocalypse storylines feel half-baked • Nightcrawler's fantastic character development • The incredible animation and voice acting • Some of the season's best fight scenes • Our favorite and least favorite moments • The disjointed storytelling • Season 2's pacing problems • How Season 2 compares to Season 1 • The X-Men '97 Season 2 ending • Our theories and predictions for Season 3 Our biggest issue is that Season 2 simply needed more room to breathe. There are great ideas throughout these episodes, but important story beats sometimes move so quickly that they don't receive the emotional weight or development they deserve. The overarching Apocalypse storyline is especially frustrating because such an iconic X-Men villain deserved a more fulfilling conclusion. That doesn't mean we've suddenly stopped loving X-Men '97. Far from it. We still think this is an excellent superhero animated series with fantastic characters, gorgeous animation, phenomenal action, and a clear love for Marvel Comics and X-Men history. Season 1 simply set an incredibly high bar, and Season 2 doesn't quite reach it. We're still VERY excited for X-Men '97 Season 3, and we're hoping Marvel Animation slows things down just enough to let its biggest moments breathe. JOIN THE DISCUSSION Did X-Men '97 Season 2 stick the landing? Was Apocalypse handled properly? Was Season 1 better? And what do YOU want to see in Season 3? Let us know in the comments! Dean Lorey.Take a walk with me down Fascination Street as I get to know Dean Lorey. Dean is a screenwriter for such films as 'Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday' (Friday the 13th part 9), and 'Major Payne' as well as TV shows 'Arrested Development' & 'The Crazy Ones'. He has also been the show runner for shows like 'Harley Quinn' the animated series, 'Kite Man: Hell Yeah!', and 'Creature Commandos'. In this episode, Dean and I chat about how he got into screenwriting, and he shares some of his experiences on his early projects. Naturally we discuss how he came to write 'Fitness Confidential' with Vinnie Tortorich and Dean shares some hilarious Vinnie stories. Then we each share our own personal stories of the moment that we each found out that we are bald. Next, we jump into Dean's experiences writing the Damon Wayans vehicle 'Major Payne' and a possible upcoming sequel. Then, we talk about the television show 'The Crazy Ones' and what it was like to meet and work with an American icon like Robin Williams. I ask a ton of questions about how Dean was able to juggle working on FOUR shows at the same time. Dean was working on: 'Harley Quinn', 'Kite Man', 'Creature Commandos', and 'Poppa's House' all at the same time! Finally, we close out the show discussing Dean's involvement with the television show 'Arrested Development' in the later seasons, one thing we did not talk about this time, is Dean's 'ONE THING' series of videos on Instagram, where he discusses 'One Thing' he learned while making TV & film projects. Definitely go check out this new and fun series on Dean's Instagram account. It will be worth the watch, I promise!

"Coyote vs. Acme" is a 2026 American live-action animated legal comedy film directed by Dave Green, written by Samy Burch from a story by James Gunn, Jeremy Slater, and Burch, and based on Ian Frazier's 1990 New Yorker article of the same name. Starring Will Forte, Lana Condor, Tone Bell, Luis Guzmán, Martha Kelly, P.J. Byrne, Kenneth Choi, and John Cena, with Eric Bauza leading the voice cast, the film follows Wile E. Coyote as he enlists a billboard attorney to sue the Acme Corporation for repeatedly selling him defective products. After Warner Bros. Discovery initially shelved the completed film for a tax write-off in 2023, Ketchup Entertainment acquired it in 2025 following widespread public backlash. The film was finally screened (officially) at San Diego Comic-Con on July 25th, 2026, where it received positive reviews. Green was kind enough to spend some time talking with us about his work and experience making the film, including its unusual journey to the screen, which you can watch or listen to below. Reflix 182 – Lanternas acende uma nova luz sobre o universo da DC

    QueIssoAssim

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 22, 2026 34:11

Valeu a espera? A abordagem policial funciona?

Could this be why Melton may no longer be playing **Beast** in the MCU? **Masters of the Universe** is also finding new life on streaming after reportedly topping the Nielsen charts. Could the strong streaming performance be enough to revive sequel conversations? We also have a major update for **God of War**, as **Dave Bautista** is set to take over the role of **Kratos**, replacing Ryan Hurst in the upcoming live-action series. Is Bautista the right choice to bring one of gaming's most iconic characters to television? Finally, Marvel is officially beginning the road to **Avengers: Doomsday** with a new **Countdown to Avengers: Doomsday** podcast featuring **Ms. Marvel star Iman Vellani** as anticipation continues to build for Marvel Studios' massive event film. ### Stories For Today: * Lanterns Pulls In 9.3M In Its HBO Debut * Naruto Casts Charles Melton In A Lead Role — And It May Explain The X-Men Rumors * Masters Of The Universe Finds New Life On Streaming After Topping Nielsen Chart — Could We See A Sequel? * Guardians Of The Galaxy Star Dave Bautista Officially Replaces Ryan Hurst As Kratos In God Of War Series * Countdown To Avengers: Doomsday Podcast Announced With Ms. Marvel Star Iman Vellani If you're a fan of **Lanterns, Green Lantern, DC Studios, James Gunn, Naruto, X-Men, Marvel Studios, Masters of the Universe, God of War, Dave Bautista, Kratos, Avengers: Doomsday**, or the latest movie and TV news, this episode is for you! #Lanterns #GreenLantern #DCU #DCStudios #JamesGunn #JohnStewart #HalJordan #Naruto #CharlesMelton #XMen #Marvel #MarvelStudios #GodOfWar #DaveBautista #Kratos #MastersOfTheUniverse #AvengersDoomsday #ImanVellani #KristianHarloffShow SPONSOR: CASHAPP: Download Cash App Today: https://capl.onelink.me/vFut/76rlxe00 #CashAppPod   • Cash App is a financial services platform, not a bank. Jong and Michael are back for another edition of Comicast this week! The guys are joined by Chalice Williams of Reel Movie Junkie on today's spoiler filled issue all about episode 1 of Lanterns. The trio discuss the dynamic between Aaron Pierre/Kyle Chandler, the joy of a buddy cop series, why this series can appeal to non-DC fans as well, where's [redacted] after John/Kerry discover [redacted] at the football stadium in that cliffhanger ending, the complexity of the timelines, what some aspects mean for the greater DCU, the introduction of Manhunters (although as I type this I'm thinking we might have thought about the wrong manhunters... ugh so many angles), what John's father's motives, and more. Plus, the group gets into a deeper discussion regarding ethnicity of actors/actresses being cast for projects and why it matters for some but doesn't for others. Also, a lot of laughs and a post podcast scene after the outro. Follow Chalice as she continues her "Road to Doomsday" series on social media, @HeyChalice on Instagram, Threads, and TikTok. Roxy Striar and Mike Kalinowski are taking over The Kristian Harloff Show today to break down the biggest stories in Marvel, DC, and Hollywood! The main conversation centers on Avengers: Doomsday and whether Marvel Studios' massive December event movie could actually shatter the box office records recently set by Spider-Man: Brand New Day. With Robert Downey Jr. returning to the MCU as Doctor Doom, the Avengers assembling alongside characters from the X-Men and Fantastic Four, and anticipation continuing to build, just how big can Avengers: Doomsday get? Roxy and Mike discuss whether Doomsday could become a historic box office event and potentially challenge the biggest movies of all time. Marvel is also preparing audiences for Doomsday in a big way. Disney has revealed a pre-Avengers: Doomsday watchlist, while new information about Marvel Studios' 2028 slate gives us a better idea of where the MCU could be heading after Doomsday and toward Avengers: Secret Wars. We'll combine both stories to discuss Marvel's larger strategy and the future of the MCU. Then it's time for a LANTERNS SPOILER REVIEW! Roxy and Mike dive into HBO and DC Studios' Lanterns, discussing the series with full spoilers, the biggest moments, what worked, what didn't, and what it means for the larger DCU. They also discuss Kyle Chandler revealing that Lanterns nearly went in a very different direction when it came to superhero suits. ⚠️ SPOILER WARNING: The Lanterns discussion will contain spoilers. Finally, the writer of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow has spoken out about DC's Supergirl movie following its theatrical run. What happened with the film, and what does its performance mean for the future of James Gunn and Peter Safran's DCU?
