Angus concludes Superman Month with a review of Max Fleischer's Superman. Max Fleischer gave the world's first Super Hero his initial animated spotlight, producing 17 theatrical animated shorts from September 1941 to July 1943 that further elevated the character's profile, and added many significant aspects to his canon – including coining many of Superman's patented catchphrases and attributes. This is all in celebration and great anticipation of Superman's return to the big screen in James Gunn's 'Superman' coming to theaters in July 2025!The Complete Superman Collectionhttps://www.amazon.com/gp/video/detail/B074PHGLDQ/Superman: The Golden Age Vol. 1https://www.amazon.com/Superman-Golden-Action-Comics-1938-2011-ebook/dp/B01BLZX0RC/Faster than a speeding bullet, Superman burst onto the comic book scene in 1938, just as America was on the terrifying precipice of a world war. In a desperate time, legendary creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster brought to life the world's first modern superhero. The Man of Steel emerged as a champion of the oppressed, taking down any enemy with his super-strength and speed, both foreign and near to home. In his distinctive royal blue, red and yellow costume, complete with cape, the stalwart Kryptonian emanated strength and fearlessness. [School of Movies 2025] All the way back in 2013 when Man of Steel was coming out, I covered the four Christopher Reeve Superman movies on a single podcast with dutiful guests Taylor Nova and Paul Gibson. I recently re-listened to it in the run-up to James Gunn's Superman and I was flabbergasted at how much my attitude had changed; specifically to the first two films directed by Richard Donner and steered with confidence and the contributions of an amazing creative team. I was dismissive, persnickety and downright rude. So, here now is a much-needed revisit, twelve years wiser, and following the life and death (forced-resurrection and death again) of the Snyderverse. Now, in the 2020s the purity and heart and soul on display here are desperately needed. And after watching the exceptional Documentary "Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story" (2024) which is essential viewing and gets a trailer at the end of this show, I realised that going back to his Kal-El was in order. Joining us this time are two comic nerds we have sorely missed while they went off to become parents. 2025 is quickly becomming the year of Superman with the DCU reboot courtesy of James Gunn. So over the next three weeks we're going to take a look at THREE classic Superman TV shows, starting with Adventures of Superman from 1952 starring George Reeves. It's a hell of a show propelled the character to new heights and lead to the increased populatiry of both Jimmy Olsen and Lois Lane before tragically concluding with the passing of it's lead actor after six seasons. Once again, fear and dread shroud the world outside our window. Chris Condon and Jeffrey Alan Love offer assistance with their terrifyingly relatable News from the Fallout, a zombie story that chews on the military-industrial complex, belief in apocalyptic certainty, and humanity's stumbling response. You can read their series as a scary, thrilling, atmospherically rich shock-fest or recognize its narrative as our past, present, but hopefully not future. The zombie genre has served humanity well since Night of the Living Dead hit drive-ins in 1968. The Walking Dead subgenre allows creators to house all their political anxieties into a thrilling narrative, offering cathartic relief to their hungry audience. When there's no more doom to scroll, the dead will stalk your imagination. Of course, News from the Fallout's shambling creatures is not necessarily zombies. They're the Rotten, poor fools who followed orders and got their face full of some unknown agent after a military test goes wrong...or right. Only Otis Fallows was smart enough to slap on a gas mask and flee across the Nevada desert. With beasts on his heels, the soldier finds solace in a diner full of patrons. They should all listen to reason and band together against a ravenous horde. Tune in next month for the second issue. Until then, enjoy our hearty conversation with Chris Condon and Jeffrey Alan Love. We discuss George R. Romero's zombie legacy, the Criterion Collection, and how it feels to work in a terrifying narrative that doesn't look much different than what we see daily on TV and our phones. News from the Fallout looks unlike anything else in comic shops right now, thanks to Jeffrey Alan Love's incredible work, which embraces distortion and atmosphere to achieve emotional reality. So, naturally, we gotta dig into the whole look, too. News from the Fallout #1 is out now from Image Comics. It's written by Chris Condon, illustrated by Jeffrey Alan Love, lettered by Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, and designed by Michael Tivey. Follow Chris Condon on Bluesky. Prepare for a wild ride through the Summer movie season! Welcome back, comedy4cast faithful! Grab your snacks and prepare for a 2025 Summer movie experience unlike any other... as interpreted by our very own Danny Hillcrest! In this episode, Danny takes center stage, much to the dismay of Buzz "Scoop" Crackerjack Thomas. For two decades, you've known Danny for his boundless enthusiasm and, shall we say, unconventional approach to... well, everything. When it comes to movies, Danny's "reviews" are less about critical analysis and more about Danny making wild assumptions. He freely admits his insights come from trailers and random internet comments. This lead to his now-legendary "non-clip clips" which are audio snippets hilariously disconnected from anything in the actual films. Buzz, ever the professional, attempts to maintain order, but as you know, that's often a losing battle when Danny's around. Their dynamic is a cornerstone of comedy4cast, offering a delightful clash between chaos and journalistic integrity. In this Danny turn his unique lens on three major summer releases, "28 Years Later", "Superman", and "Fantastic Four: First Steps." In his "28 Years Later" preview, Danny goes down a truly unexpected rabbit hole, proving that even a zombie apocalypse can't escape his imaginative (and utterly misinformed) grasp. According to Danny, the Man of Steel faces his greatest challenge yet in "Superman". But it's a threat we're not sure even James Gunn could have seen coming. And Danny introduces us to the iconic Marvel team that stars in "Fantastic Four: First Steps". Kind of. Listen in as Danny Hillcrest once again proves that when it comes to movies, what you think you know is far less entertaining than what Danny imagines. In this episode, the roles of Tam and Sue Storm are played by Bonnie Kenerdine, and the roles of The Editor and Conspiracy Guy are played by Scott Morris, of the Disney, Indiana podcast, located at disneyindiana.com. It's a brand new season and that means two brand new study topics! In Season 15, I'm studying something called the villain's monologue and Melanie is studying turning points. Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3 is one of those films that's ok as long as you don't look too closely! There are definitely logic problems but insofar as our study topics are concerned, this movie offers up some valuable craft advice. Enjoy! -V. JAMES GUNN CLARIFIES SUPERMAN Controversial Flying Shot? I talk about the "controversial" shot and kind of push back on what James Gunn says about the original shot of Superman flying.
It's crossover chaos and comic book carnage on this week's episode of That Comic Podcast! We talk 28 Years Later and then dive right into the big news: Jon Bernthal is officially joining Tom Holland in Spider-Man: Brand New Day—yes, the Punisher is crashing the MCU party. We also break down Marvel's surprise fourth movie in 2028, because clearly “quality over quantity” was just a phase.Meanwhile, James Gunn is making headlines again—one moment he's hyping up Mike Flanagan's R-rated Clayface horror flick, and the next he's telling fans to get off Matt Reeves' nuts about The Batman Part II. And speaking of brutal cuts, we run through the long list of Marvel comic titles getting the axe.Plus: the Spider-Man '94 comic drama (and John Semper's spicy response), Kevin Smith writing a Green Arrow/Daredevil crossover (no, really), and more Marvel/DC madness than a crossover event can handle. Therefore, a lot will need to become established early on to give audiences an idea of what's in store. The interconnectivity is one element DC Studios is borrowing from the MCU.Still, the DCU will feature some noticeable differences that will provide a new experience for viewers. Instead of starting with origin stories, the DCU will jump into a world of metahumans who have been around for 300 years. There won't be a slow build to bizarre comic book concepts either, since the MCU has done a lot of the heavy lifting for the general audience. Making death permanent is a rule the DCU will operate under, which will get audiences invested in the franchise long-term.Lord of The Rings 1978 CartoonThe Blu-ray is available for pre-order on Amazon for $22.49 and will be officially released on June 24. The reprint will also include an interview series with Bakshi in which he discusses the making of the film. Before this reprinting, the animated The Lord of the Rings was only available on Blu-ray via a region-free imported edition. The movie is also available on DVD in a remastered deluxe edition for only $5 on Amazon.

It's really not right that Fell Hound has taken this long to find their way onto the podcast, but we're grateful they're here now, and we get to discuss with them such an exciting bit of comic book action romance like S.I.R. While the delay is entirely our fault, Fell Hound has been busy occupying our imaginations with comics like Commander Rao, an award-winning debut book that's pretty much dominated our thoughts and social media feeds since its release. They make damn fine comics, and they're impossible to ignore. Published under the BOOM! Box imprint at BOOM! Studios, S.I.R. is a properly melodramatic romance set within the violent arena of collegiate motorcycle jousting. No mortal comic book reader can resist such a setup. Fell Hound delivers heartache, action, villainy, heroism, and lewks. My god, the designs in this comic are truly craveable. Fell Hound wrote and drew everything while Eleonora Bruni provided S.I.R.'s colors with assistance from Freddie Tanto. Becca Carey designed the letters and logo. The new trade paperback from BOOM! is out now. Put your mitts on it. Also, make sure to follow Fell Hound on Instagram and Bluesky. This Week's Sponsor We're sponsored by 2000 AD, the greatest comic you're not reading! Within its pages is a whole universe of characters, from Judge Dredd and Strontium Dog to Rogue Trooper, Shakara, Halo Jones, and the poor sods slogging across the Cursed Earth in The Helltrekkers. Get a print subscription at your door every week - and the first issue is free! Or subscribe digitally, get free back issues, and download DRM-free copies of each issue for just $9 a month. On today's episode of The Kristian Harloff Show, Kristian is joined by Coy Jandreau and Winston Marshall as they dive into the massive fan reactions to 30 minutes of SUPERMAN footage revealed at an exclusive preview screening! This is the most we've seen from James Gunn's DCU debut — and fans have a lot to say. From the brand-new theatrical poster drop to early SUPERMAN box office tracking suggesting the film might open as low as $90 million, the DCU conversation is heating up. We also break down James Gunn's bold moves, including his decision to cut a notorious flying scene from the final movie — and his response to those calling for The Batman Part II to be canceled ("Get off Matt's N*#s!"). Other topics include the addition of Clayface to the DCU's "Gods and Monsters" slate, insight from Lanterns pilot director James Hawes about how the series will evolve from grounded to cosmic, and a big update on Star Wars' "New Jedi Order" movie starring Daisy Ridley — now reportedly on hold again.
The boys are back to answer your call-in questions for all things coming up in the summer of content! They discuss James Gunn, Superman, the new Batman, and much more!
