Join Jim and Greg for Thursday's 3 Martini Lunch as they react to the House narrowly passing President Trump's Big Beautiful Bill, shocking anti-Semitic murders in Washington, a humiliating naval blunder for North Korea, and Delaware Sen. Chris Coons still trying to defend Joe Biden's re-election bid.First, after noting the House passage of the administration's top legislative priority and two Republicans inexplicably missing the vote, they recoil at the horrifying murders of two Israeli embassy employees in Washington. The alleged shooter reportedly shouted “Free Free Palestine” while being arrested. Jim highlights the ongoing danger posed to Jewish Americans and anyone who associates with them as unabashed anti-Semitism rages on college campuses and beyond.Next, they lighten things up with reports of a North Korean warship getting severely damaged during a launch ceremony attended by Kim Jong-Un. The failed launch is a major embarrassment for the regime. But while public humiliation for Kim is welcome news, Jim and Greg note the grim likelihood that those blamed for the incident will face brutal punishment. Finally, they get a kick out of Delaware Sen. Chris Coons, one of Biden's closest allies, dodging questions about his post-debate remarks insisting Biden could still serve another term. Coons now says he doesn't want to "relitigate" the past but focus on the future. Please visit our great sponsors:It's free, online, and easy to start—no strings attached. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un observed a series of military drills aimed at enhancing the country's ongoing “war preparations” last week, ahead of a gathering of thousands of military officers in Pyongyang for a rare conference on instigating a “revolution” in army training. NK News Managing Editor Bryan Betts joins the podcast to discuss the DPRK's push to improve its air force and how the military events appear tied to the troop deployment to fight against Ukraine. He also talks about Kim Jong Un's visit to a Pyongyang cemetery to pay tribute to late military official Hyon Chol Hae for the third consecutive year, as well as the appearance of sanctioned North Korean goods in Ukraine trade data despite the two sides' severed ties. About the podcast: The North Korea News Podcast is a weekly podcast hosted by Jacco Zwetsloot exclusively for NK News, covering all things DPRK — from news to extended interviews with leading experts and analysts in the field, along with insight from our very own journalists.
Daily Dose of Hope May 20, 2025 Day 2 of Week 8 Scripture – Matthew 2 Prayer: Dear God, You are amazing! How awesome it is that you who created all things are also so intimately involved in our lives. We give you glory and praise for who you are. We are so thankful for your love. We want to know you more. We want and need to hear your voice. Help us set aside our scattered thoughts and focus on you. In these next few moments of silence, Lord, hear our prayers... In Your Name, Amen. Welcome back, friends, to the Daily Dose of Hope, a devotional and podcast connected to the Bible reading plan at New Hope Church in Brandon, FL. Today, we are digging into Matthew 2. This is pretty familiar Scripture to many of us. Let's try to see it with fresh eyes. The text begins with foreign Magi visiting King Herod. These men are an interesting and mysterious group. We don't really know much about the magi who come seeking Jesus from eastern lands. Some translations call them wise men or kings. Matthew doesn't include a lot of details. We have no idea how many there actually were (despite the popular carol, Scripture does not say there were just three of them). Like the shepherds, the magi seem an unlikely group to seek out and worship Jesus. They were pagans, gentiles, involved in the occult, and yet they knew there was something more. They were searching for something more. So these magi embark on a long journey, carrying expensive gifts worthy of a king, eager to pay homage. Their efforts lead them to an encounter far beyond their expectations. Unlike an earthly king who would have been found in a palace, the magi are led to what we can probably assume is a modest home of a Jewish family and it's there that they find Jesus with his mother and Scripture says they bow down and worship him. Maybe it wasn't what they expected but they see God's hand in it nonetheless and worship the one they know to be the Messiah, the savior of the world. They were outsiders but they recognized the Messiah when so many insiders failed to do so. Up until now, it all sounds great, right? But there is another character in this story. His name is Herod the Great. The Herod family ruled over the holy land both before and after the time of Christ, they were somewhat like puppet kings, put in place by the Romans to keep order. And they don't have a great reputation at all. They were, for the most part, insecure and power-hungry. One reason I don't think it's accurate to refer to the magi as wise men is because they did one thing that was really unwise. They go straight to King Herod, “So where is the NEW king? Where is the one who has been named king of the Jews?” Keep in mind, Herod the Great considered himself to be king of the Jews. The man is insecure and vicious so he tries to trick the magi into divulging Jesus' location. But no amount of earthly power can get Herod what he wants. The magi are warned in a dream to not return to Herod. And this angers him more. Herod was both feared and hated. The Jewish historian Josephus painted a picture of Herod as a suspicious and cruel client king, with a history of killing anyone whom he saw as a threat, including three sons and his wife. So even though the magi remind Herod of Micah's prophecy that the Messiah was to be born in Bethlehem (Micah 5:2), his response was not to pay homage but to destroy the newborn king. In Matthew 2:16, we read that Herod decides to take matters into his own hands and kill all the baby boys who might be in the age range of Jesus, When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi. Truly dark and horrific. The extent to which human beings will go to gain power surely demonstrates the brokenness of our world. Then and now. But through all of this, Jesus is saved. The baby's family is warned in a dream and they head down to Egypt for a period of time to keep the boy safe from Herod before they come back to Israel and settle in Nazareth. Because God's purposes will prevail. God had promised long, long ago to send a Savior for his people and there is nothing that could get in the way. Listen to this prophecy from in Isaiah 9:6-7, spoken 700 years before the birth of Jesus, For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this. It's like God was saying “I'm going to send someone who will restore the people of Israel to me. This person will be a light to the Gentiles, and will bring my salvation to the ends of the earth AND it will be obvious once more that your God reigns.” No power-hungry king could mess that up as hard as he tried. No earthly power could thwart God's plan of redemption for his people. It's true that bad things to happen. God allows human beings free will and that is too often used for evil. But that doesn't mean God isn't involved, it doesn't mean he isn't invested, God can and has orchestrated, changed, and/or stopped the plans of all kinds of people to get done what needs to get done. God has been working, in his time, over the course of thousands of years, to achieve his bigger purpose. And what was the bigger purpose? God's mission from the beginning was to redeem his world. He did this through Jesus. That little baby that the wise men knelt down and worshiped, that child that Herod felt so threatened by --- that child would grow to become the Savior of the world. He would bring sight to the blind, freedom for the oppressed, he would proclaim good news to the poor. He would preach the Kingdom of God and show the world a different way of living, ultimately giving up his own life voluntarily on a Roman cross. In doing so, he became the final sacrifice for sin, providing a way for you and me and all people to be redeemed. Because of Jesus' sacrifice, our sins can be forgiven and we can walk hand in hand with a holy God. Because of Jesus, nothing separates us from God. And then, three days after he died, he was resurrected, defeating evil and death and demonstrating to the world who HE is. He is, after all, God. Jesus is the Lord. Jesus is LORD of all. Paul writes this in Colossians 1:15-20, The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. 19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. Jesus is above all things. Jesus is Lord. And over the course of 2000 years, rulers and kings and dictators and autocrats have tried to wipe out his influence. They have misused his teachings, they have twisted the Gospel. Like Herod, they have done all kinds of things to either try to eliminate the influence of Jesus or to use the Gospel for their own deceitful purposes. And at times, it's been ugly and violent and really sad. But this is TRUTH: God will ensure that his purposes prevail. Yes, in our sinful and broken world, all kinds of horrors will occur. Vladimir Putin will think he's invincible. Kim Jong Un will declare himself supreme ruler. American politicians will think themselves unshakable. You and I will experience heartbreak, loss, and illness. And yet, Jesus is still Lord of all. God is still working in our lives, God is still present with us in the middle of the mess, and Jesus is still in the business of transforming lives. Friends, Jesus is on the throne, King of Kings and Lord of Lords. The rulers of the world may oppose him but they are ultimately answerable to him. Because he will come again. I'll stop there for now. But I do have to ask this question: Is Jesus Lord of your life? More tomorrow. Blessings, Pastor Vicki
After years of closure to foreigners due to the pandemic and political tensions, North Korea quietly reopened the Pyongyang Marathon in 2025 — and Alex Page was one of the few Americans to lace up and run it. Alex recounts what it was like entering one of the world's most isolated countries, the intriguing and tightly controlled experience of being a tourist there, and the surreal vibe of running through Pyongyang's streets. The Aurus Senat exploded feet away from the FSB Secret Service Lubyanka headquarters. Putin famously travels in these limos and even gifted one last year to Kim Jong Un in North Korea. This is the latest normalization of a narrative that could seriously harm hundreds of millions as the chess pieces are moved around on the board. The war needs to appear real for outsiders but the reality is much more sinister and the war is very manufactured. This is all part of the agenda of shifting power from the west to the east and into a new technocratic system. Meanwhile, Macron, Starmer and Zelenskyy meet in Paris to discuss a new security partnership which Putin has warned will lead to a bloodbath. The UK and France have agreed to send troops to Ukraine to fight Russia as several European countries attempt to bring in a new draft. With continued attacks on Russia's energy infrastructure which Putin blames on France and the UK, the war is quickly escalating despite hopium surrounding Trump pulling away from it. US weapons continue to flow to Israel which flows to Ukraine as ambulances are targeted by the IDF in Gaza and the march towards war with Iran continues. In this episode of The President's Daily Brief: First, one of the top three U.S. leaders of the violent Salvadoran MS-13 gang has been arrested in a major immigration operation in Virginia. The news comes as the Trump administration orders the Pentagon to train their spy satellites on the U.S.-Mexico border to help crack down on cartel operations. Later in the show, new reports are emerging regarding the recent slaughter of members of the Alawite community in Syria, as the country grapples with the worst sectarian violence since the fall of Bashar al-Assad. Plus, North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un is back to stirring the pot on the Korean peninsula, recently overseeing the testing of newly developed AI-powered suicide drones. Donald Trump's return to the White House has dramatically reshaped Washington in just two short months, including the world of North Korea policy. But while many in the U.S. expect that Trump will return to the unfinished business of diplomacy with Kim Jong Un, few in the Beltway are willing to speak openly about the new administration's policies or how the U.S. should approach the DPRK — apparently fearful of drawing Trump's wrath. That's the conclusion that several members of the NK News team drew after visiting the U.S. last week, where they had dozens of discussions with interlocutors across the U.S. government, nonprofit sector, think tanks and more. This week, three NK News journalists join the podcast to discuss their trip to New York and Washington and the unprecedented turbulence affecting the North Korea watcher community. They talk about how the administration still appears to be in “listening mode” on DPRK issues, why Pyongyang isn't at the top of Trump's priorities right now and what would need to happen for that to change. They also explore what their interlocutors in the U.S. wanted to know about the ongoing political chaos in South Korea, and explain why few are impressed with the current state of the U.S.-ROK alliance. This week's podcast features the following members of the NK News team: CEO Chad O'Carroll Lead Correspondent Shreyas Reddy Correspondent and Korea Pro Editorial Director Jeongmin Kim About the podcast: The North Korea News Podcast is a weekly podcast hosted by Jacco Zwetsloot exclusively for NK News, covering all things DPRK — from news to extended interviews with leading experts and analysts in the field, along with insight from our very own journalists. Good afternoon, I'm _____ with today's episode of EZ News. Tai-Ex opening The Tai-Ex opened down 167-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 22,093 on turnover of 5.4-billion N-T. The market closed little changed on Wednesday, as many investors opted to stay on the sidelines amid lingering concerns over tariff threats from the Trump administration. The slump came after tech stocks took hit on Wall Street overnight - as the Nasdaq lost 2-per cent. Turnover stood at 214-billion N-T and market watchers say the low turnover was evidence that investors are reluctant to chase prices for now before the White House announces its reciprocal tariff policy - which is expected by April 2. Analysts say the local main board is expected to continue to move in a narrow range at around the 240-day moving average of 22,330 points before those reciprocal tariff actions are launched. Four former-servicemen found guilty of selling documents to China operative The Taipei District Court has sentenced four former military personnel to prison terms after finding them guilty of selling documents to a middleman for the Chinese intelligence services. Three of those sentenced were members of the 211th Military Police Battalion, which guards the Presidential Office, while the fourth served in the ministry's Information, Communications and Electronic Force Command. The four were convicted for breaching (違反) national security laws and accepting bribes and given sentences of between five and seven years. The sentences can be appealed. Academics slam Lai's populism, freedom of speech erosion Some 75 academics are accusing President Lai Ching-te of using populism to rally supporters, leading to the rapid erosion of free speech in Taiwan .. .. and have all co-signed a statement titled "Defending Taiwan's Democracy, Rule of Law, and Peace." They're calling on the government to the government to halt its actions and avoid (避免) further harming Taiwan's democracy and rule of law for the sake of short-term political gain. They're also arguing that "in order to defend" Taiwan's "democracy, rule of law, peace and security," the government should "adhere to the constitutional system and take immediate and effective measures to improve cross-strait relations." NKorea Kim Observes Drone Tests North Korea says leader Kim Jong Un observed tests of newly developed reconnaissance and attack drones this week and called for their increased production. Photos released by state media Thursday showed Kim observing what appeared to be a large reconnaissance (偵察) drone roughly resembling Boeing's E-7 Wedgetail airborne warning and control aircraft. Other images showed exploding drones crashing into targets. The report said the exploding drones feature unspecified artificial intelligence capabilities. State media said Kim expressed satisfaction with the drones' performance and approved plans to expand production, emphasizing that drones and AI should be top priorities in efforts to advance his military and adapt it to modern warfare. Trump 25Percent Tariffs on Auto Imports Donald Trump has announced a 25% tariff on all automobiles imported into the United States. The US president says the move is intended to boost (增強;推動) domestic manufacturing but it's expected to raise prices for US car buyers. Ira Spitzer has more. That was the I.C.R.T. ZIS 115. Bonus Track: Renault 5 GTL. Thomas Sankara. Rodrigo: “¿No te habrás equivocado?”.
