And you find Swearer here: https://www.heritage.org/staff/amy-swearer. 6:30pm- Did Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's “hush money” case against former President Donald Trump just blow up? Matthew Haag of The New York Times writes: “Defense lawyers for Donald J. Trump painted the lawyer who negotiated the hush-money deal at the center of his criminal trial as a serial extortionist, accusing him of taking aim at Mr. Trump before the 2016 election with a porn star's account of a sexual liaison. The lawyer, Keith Davidson, spent hours on the stand describing how he received the $130,000 payment for the woman, Stormy Daniels, from Mr. Trump's longtime fixer, Michael D. Cohen, and the mad scramble that ensued when the story got out anyway. The cross-examination quickly turned hostile: Mr. Trump's lawyers sought to cast Mr. Davidson as a shakedown artist who took aim at celebrities including Tila Tequila and Charlie Sheen, while he fought back by suggesting they were using loaded language like ‘extortion' to stigmatize legitimate settlements.” During his opening monologue Rich notes that during testimony, Davidson said he did not consider the payments from Trump to be “hush money.” You can read more here: https://www.nytimes.com/live/2024/05/02/nyregion/trump-hush-money-trial/trump-trial-keith-davidson-testimony?smid=url-share 6:40pm- Rich Lowry of National Review points out: “The Alvin Bragg case has gotten grander at trial, but also more ridiculous. The Manhattan DA has a meaningless business-records misdemeanor wrapped within a theory about an alleged Trump conspiracy to defraud the voters by denying them disparaging information before the election and obscuring, after the fact, the payments that were used to do so. Bragg is accusing Trump, in effect, of stealing the election. If this is the standard by which we judge elections, we need to go back and conclude that Bill Clinton wasn't elected legitimately in 1992, either. The Arkansas governor's political operation was, in part, an elaborate conspiracy to keep women who alleged to have had affairs with Clinton quiet. Hillary Clinton was an active participant in the schemes. And so, by Bragg's logic, this Democratic power couple—dominant in the party for a decade or more and still honored today—comprises election thieves.” You can read the full article here: https://www.nationalreview.com/2024/04/remember-when-bill-clinton-stole-the-1992-election/

The latest example is a new rule that purports to codify permitting reform in Congress's debt-ceiling deal last year. Instead, the rule creates a pocket veto for fossil fuels and public works while rubber-stamping green projects. Permitting reform for we, but not thee… The Administration's new rule ignores the law by making it easy to kill projects that progressives oppose… Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer promised West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin he'd take up permitting reform in return for supporting the Inflation Reduction Act. The bills had cleared a procedural hurdle on Friday with bipartisan support—316 to 94, passing with more Democrat than Republican support. The aid package includes a measure that, if passed in the Senate and signed by President Joe Biden, would force Chinese company ByteDance to sell its popular social media platform TikTok to an American-based company—citing a threat to national security. Refusal to sell TikTok would result in the app being banned in the United States. 4:10pm- Eric Boehm of Reason writes: “Tech companies and First Amendment groups are calling attention to a provision in a domestic spying bill that they say would significantly expand the federal government's power to snoop on Americans' digital communications—potentially by forcing employees of private businesses to become informants. The Information Technology Industry Council (ITI), a global trade group that represents major tech companies including Google and Microsoft, is calling for last-minute changes to the Reforming Intelligence and Securing America Act (RISAA), which could get a final vote in the Senate on Friday. The bill's primary purpose is to extend Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), which allows U.S. intelligence agencies to scoop up communications between Americans and individuals abroad. But the bill also includes a provision that ‘vastly expands the U.S. government's warrantless surveillance capabilities, damaging the competitiveness of U.S. technology companies large and small, and arguably imperiling the continued global free flow of data between the U.S. and its allies,' the ITI said in a statement this week.” You can read the full report here: https://reason.com/2024/04/19/how-the-fisa-reauthorization-bill-could-force-maintenance-workers-and-custodians-to-become-government-spies/ 4:30pm- Dave McCormick—Republican Candidate for U.S. Senate in Pennsylvania & former Under Secretary of the Treasury for International Affairs during the George W. You never heard this before when it was the Trump Administration—nobody talked about World War III.” He goes on to implore Pennsylvanians to “get out to vote!” 5:30pm- Author Les Leopold joins The Rich Zeoli Show to talk about his new book, “Wall Street's War on Workers: How Mass Layoffs and Greed Are Destroying the Working Class and What to Do About It.” You can find his book here: https://a.co/d/aUfaEoA 6:05pm- Jonah E. Bromwich and Kate Christbek of The New York Times write: “The Manhattan district attorney's office and lawyers for Donald J. Trump presented opening statements to jurors on Monday, with prosecutors accusing the former president of entering a criminal conspiracy while the defense sought to discredit two key witnesses. A prosecutor, Matthew Colangelo, began by telling jurors that Mr. Trump had conspired with his former fixer, Michael D. Cohen, and the publisher of The National Enquirer, David Pecker, to conceal damaging stories during his 2016 campaign.” You can read more here: https://www.nytimes.com/live/2024/04/22/nyregion/trump-hush-money-trial/the-opening-arguments-gave-a-preview-of-how-the-two-sides-will-present-the-case?smid=url-share 6:15pm- Speaking outside of the Manhattan Criminal Courthouse on Monday, former President Donald Trump grilled New York Attorney General Letitia James for her refusal to accept his $175 million bond in a civil fraud case. Later in the day, James agreed to accept the bond after minor modifications. 6:30pm- While appearing on Fox News, Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) said that Congressional reauthorization of Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA)—without new safeguards—is similar to giving a fox the keys to the hen house.   6:40pm- Irsa Hirsi, the daughter of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and a student at Barnard College at Columbia University, was recently suspended for anti-Israel protests and refusing to leave a makeshift encampment on campus. Despite Jewish leadership at Columbia suggesting that Jewish students are no longer safe on campus due to the threat of violence from radical leftist protesters, Teen Vogue decided to write a glowing piece about Hirsi this weekend. On Monday, Columbia University was forced to hold classes online.

An indictment by a grand jury is expected late Monday or Wednesday, according to three people involved in the deliberations. A court spokesperson said there’s nothing to report since no charges have been filed. Spokespeople for the Secret Service and District Attorney’s Office did not immediately respond to requests for comment. “The NYPD’s state of readiness remains a constant at all times, for all contingencies,” an NYPD spokesperson said. “Our communications and coordination with our partners in government and in law enforcement are fundamental tenets of our commitment to public safety.” Attorney Robert J. Costello, who once advised former Trump lawyer Michael D. Cohen, is scheduled to testify before the grand jury Monday afternoon. Cohen has said he will be a rebuttal witness to Costello, who may question Cohen’s credibility. Once the sealed indictment is delivered to the judge, the DA’s office would discuss Trump’s surrender with his counsel, according to a court official who, like the others, was granted anonymity to discuss internal planning procedures. If Trump were to not surrender, a warrant would be issued for his arrest. Whether Trump would be handcuffed is a decision that would be made by the district attorney, the court official said. He would be finger printed and a mug shot would be taken, though he is not expected to be “perp-walked” or paraded before the public in handcuffs, the official said. The Manhattan Criminal Courthouse, a 17-story Art Deco building that sits just northwest of the Brooklyn Bridge, was surrounded by over a dozen news vans Monday morning. A leading Republican elected official in the state said he did not expect large, pro-Trump protests. “You’ll get the same crazy couple dozen people and that’s it,” said the Republican official, who was granted anonymity to speak frankly about internal party dynamics. “There’ll probably more counter protestors than protestors,” he said. https://thepostmillennial.com/breaking-biden-vetoes-bill-banning-woke-funds-for-americans-retirement-accounts?utm_campaign=64487 Biden vetoes bill banning woke funds for Americans' retirement accounts Joe Biden issued his first veto as president on Monday in a sign of what's to be expected with the Republican-majority Congress. Organizational Change: Solutions In the Dumpster

Organizations move slowly, until they don't. They resist change, until they can't. Why? On this episode of Management Musewe discuss an unusual—and unusually powerful—way of thinking about organizations…like they are trash cans! Hosts Cindi Baldi and Geoffrey Tumlin talk about one of the greatest management papers you've never read: "A Garbage Can Model of Organizational Choice," the classic article written by Michael D. Cohen, James G. March, and Johan P. Olsen. As crazy as it sounds, the trashcan model of organizations makes a lot of sense: Organizations are messy and chaotic. There's a lot of different issues inside them, and occasionally the contents spill out and come into full visibility. Grab your flashlight; it's time to climb into the trashcan. Episode Highlights: ● Organizations aren't efficient like computers, they are messy and somewhat unpredictable like trashcans. ● Do you feel unheard? Like your ideas are neglected? Don't take it personally. It's a garbage can out there, and you have to reach in, grab the item you care about, and champion it. ● Organizational change often happens on its own timeline, but smart managers can often spot moments to push, and times to back off. Timestamps: [0:00] Cindi and Geoff talk about key managerial lessons from the garbage can model. [4:00] The hosts discuss championing your ideas in a garbage can environment. [6:00] Cindi and Geoff talk about floating ideas up and outside of the trashcan. [8:25] The hosts talk about using your time and energy in the trashcan wisely. [9:20] Geoff and Cindi cover the ways that Covid knocked over many trashcans, and created numerous opportunities for change. [14:00] The hosts explore how external shocks often lead to big changes. [17:12] Geoff and Cindi talk about using the garbage can model to help people improve their organizations. [25:10] Cindi and Geoff talk about making change happen with limited time and other resources. [28:00] The hosts cover two scenarios that prompt change in a garbage can world: (1) Something internal or external knocks over the trashcan, revealing messes that require attention. (2) Someone external takes the lid off, raises a flag, and forces action. [37:00] Why it's so humbling to try changing an organization. No matter what you think you know or which methodology you deploy, it's a trashcan out there. The process is messy, so when an opening emerges, don't hesitate to seize what might be a sacred opportunity. [38:32] Geoff and Cindi talk about what's in the trashcan and what can be done to evolve the organization. Episode Quotes: “It's humbling to try to change an organization because no matter what you think you know or what methodology you're following that seems to have all the answers, it's a trashcan out there. It's just not going to be clean.” –Geoffrey Tumlin “At the lower end, you really have to be able to build a coalition, go up the chain. There's still a lot of work that you have to do if you decide that it's really important and it's a much longer, harder process because you're that much further away from the actual decision-makers.” –Cindi Baldi Episode Resources: Would you like to read the original article? When federal prosecutors recommended a substantial prison term for President Trump’s former lawyer, Michael D. Cohen, they linked Mr. Trump to the crimes Mr. Cohen had committed in connection with the 2016 presidential campaign. What the prosecutors did not say in Mr. Cohen’s sentencing memorandum filed on Friday, however, is that they have continued to scrutinize what other executives in the president’s family business may have known about those crimes, which involved hush-money payments to two women who had said they had affairs with Mr. Trump. After Mr. Cohen pleaded guilty in August to breaking campaign finance laws and other crimes — he will be sentenced on Wednesday — the federal prosecutors in Manhattan shifted their attention to what role, if any, Trump Organization executives played in the campaign finance violations, according to people briefed on the matter. Mr. Cohen, Mr. Trump’s self-described fixer, has provided assistance in that inquiry, which is separate from the investigation by the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III. Michael D. Cohen, President Trump’s former lawyer and fixer, admitted in court on Thursday that he had engaged in negotiations to build a tower in Moscow for Mr. Trump well into the 2016 presidential campaign, far later than previously known. Mr. Cohen said he discussed the status of the project with Mr. Trump on more than three occasions and briefed Mr. Trump’s family members about it. He also admitted he agreed to travel to Russia for meetings on the project. The revelations, which came as Mr. Cohen pleaded guilty to lying to Congress about the project, were a startling turn in the special counsel’s investigation of Mr. Trump and his inner circle. Mr. Trump is referred to as “Individual 1” in the court documents. Mr. Cohen’s guilty plea comes at a particularly perilous time for Mr. Trump, whose presidency has been threatened by Mr. Cohen’s statements to investigators.
