It is, woke culture is, anti–American. It is also very passionately anti–Christian. One such awakened member of the woke culture said most bluntly:“I hate Christianity as much as I hate America.”Why was never made clear. Wok–ers don't need reason for their hateful conclusions. They want the history of our great Country gone. They have destroyed monuments. They have introduced Critical Race Theory (CRT) which rewrites history. They are determined to train up children, new generations of young learners, in the WOKE WAY, and reading, writing and arithmetic, and history as we know it be damned. They constantly find ways to mock and disrespect our Founding Fathers, those who bled and died for this Country early on, fought for the freedoms WE THE PEOPLE now do little but take for granted. They are determined to destroy, eliminate or at least erode and water down our great Constitution. They care little for the RULE OF LAW unless it is for their benefit. They will do what they want to get what they want. They see racism as systemic, sexism and anti–LGBTQ attitudes and beliefs as fundamental and essentially not changeable, the Country economically imbalanced and unfair to minorities, they foster socialism or worse, even communism. But the bottom line is that these new progressives, radicals, socialists and revolutionaries, having found safe harbor in the Democratic Party are determined in the words of George Soros, the world's most evil man, to:BRING DOWN AMERICA!Destroy it in the words of the radical Saul Alinsky no matter what happens. America has always been a land which has honored, respected and protected the essential right of mankind:FREEDOM OF RELIGION.Progressives see America as a Christian nation and they are determined to destroy Christianity at the same time as they destroy America. They will use any means possible to accomplish that end. That includes violence wherever necessary. They wish to take control of government, institutions, legislatures and especially the courts. They wish to exercise complete power and rid the Country of any vestige of Christianity and for that matter, all things Judeo–Christian, other religions to follow. They want power, complete power. And, they are prepared to use the lie, destroy facts, say and do anything which will advance their cause. They do not believe that the vast majority of Americans who are decent, Christian, law–abiding citizens will fight back or for that matter, resist in any aggressive way. They know they can win because they will do anything to win. They can and will use any weapon necessary knowing that very few will fight back, believing that Christians will not fight the fight of faith at least with arms and counter–violence. They think that most Christians and even believers of other faiths would rather “come apart”, and “be separate” rather than fight. That is why they, the destroyers believe–know they can win and can ultimately destroy America. It is happening even now, step by step, mostly subtly, sometimes overtly. But their satanic, demonic, evil agenda goes on every day, EVERY DAY!They are determined to destroy the Constitution. God is in there, part of that, motivating that, the same in the Declaration of Independence. No more God and no more Constitution for them. That is so even though WE THE PEOPLE are a Christian majority, we are Judeo–Christian in the majority. We are PEOPLE OF FAITH, when all faiths are included. Perhaps as much as 75% of our great Country is comprised of citizens who are faithful, who believe in God. But this small minority of radical–progressives firmly believe they can conquer, control and dominate this super–majority. They will not rest, not ever until that vicious, satanic goal is accomplished. They are determined to destroy freedoms of all kinds, and especially Freedom of Religion. They will use the Alinsky, Saul Alinsky method and philosophy of utter destruction. Ironically embraced by Hillary Clinton and Barrack Obama. Funded by the satanic George Soros, they are intent upon destroying America:BRING AMERICA DOWN!There are specific reasons why they also hate Christianity. Progressives believe the BIBLE is nothing more than mythology. They also condemn the so–called violence of the Old Testament, the just God it reveals and portrays. They mock the fact that Jews and Christians for the most part consider the Bible to be infallible, the word of the living God Jehovah and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. They further mock the idea that the Bible is absolute truth and when the Gospels of the New Testament quote the words of Jesus Christ:“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man or woman comes to the Father BUT BY ME.”Those words as HATE SPEECH, disrespectful of other religions and beliefs, and just plain wrong. So much for Christianity. These radicals find OFFENSIVE:THE CROSS.That a death brings about new life, eternal life, and is necessary for salvation, is hateful, exclusionary and of course for all such Alinsky–ites, just plain wrong. They resent the cross symbol on churches, and especially the people who wear the cross as a sign of their belief. That cross is OFFENSIVE to them and they are determined to eliminate the very symbol itself, and along with that, any and all constitutional:FREEDOM OF RELIGION.THE BLOOD. The blood of Jesus Christ shed for you on the cross, at Calvary is utterly offensive. They chafe at the notion that without the shedding of blood, there is no remission for sin. They mock Communion where Christians celebrate salvation in Jesus Christ and partake of the body and blood symbolically of Jesus Christ. They hate that celebration, that memorial, that living and saving experience with great passion and are determined to destroy it. THE RESURRECTION. To the radical–Soros–progressive–anti–Christian, the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the bodily resurrection is nothing more than mythology, and Easter celebration which they are determined to extinguish and the SON OF MAN, son of God at the heart thereof. But if Christ be not risen, then the faith of WE THE CHRISTIAN PEOPLE is in vain. Destroy the resurrection, destroy faith so say the progressives. SIN. The concept of sin really brings out the hatred, the passion of progressives in every way. That there is a moral God, with standards of morality, commandments and expectations is unthinkable and motivates a radical, atheistic progressive to do away with all things Christian. That is an ultimate goal of every angry–atheistic–Alinsky–ite!AND A DEVIL. A real devil, a Satan at work as an evil power in this world. Mythological, laughable. A fabrication. As with sin, there is no devil. There really is no evil in the world for them, but perhaps only men and women go on astray and in need of psychiatric or psychological help but nothing which any religion offers, NOTHING!AND HEAVEN AND HELL. This world for them, and no more. Nothing beyond. No heaven, nothing more than mythology at work, and no hell, more mythology. That there would be a place reserved for the Devil and his Angels is nothing more than a work of fiction, a scare tactic to make susceptible people fearful and consequently locked–in as believers. It won't happen, they say. And heaven the same, no more than vain, fairy–tale mythology designed to produce hope for believers when in fact, there is nothing beyond the grave, for radical–Alinsky–progressives, NOTHING! To talk about the wonders of heaven and eternal life, and eternal association with Jesus Christ is offensive, anger–producing and these anti–Christians and people of faith are determined to destroy that along with our beloved America. EUTHANASIA. They believe in so–called mercy killing even though scripture clearly warns against the sin–commandment of NOT KILLING. Others can kill if a person requests that so say the progressives, the radicals, the anti–life individuals. No fairy–tale God can tell them:“Thou shalt not kill.”If they, in their infinite human wisdom, decide that is the right thing to do. The anger builds and the determination to extinguish Christianity and in fact all religious faiths with it.THE NATURAL MAN. That man or woman hates Christianity, and all religion. There is no such thing as GOD. That person cannot be reached by testimony or witness, given over completely to the power of Satan, having become not only indifferent to but hateful of religion, determined to destroy it. The heart of the natural person is closed, the spirit of God gone and there is an ever–building resentment, turning to hatred and a resolve to destroy all things religious. That natural man is at the heart of the radical–hateful–progressive movement determined to destroy America and Christianity with it.THE GAY AGENDA: LGBTQIA. All things unnatural, non–biblical increase today dramatically. Gay and gay marriage is now recognized the nation over. No matter any biblical condemnation, or that of other religions as well (Islam), and the express condemnation of the unnatural person in both Old and New Testaments of the Bible, any number of people of faith, Judeo–Christian today accept the unnatural man and woman. So much of that acceptance, the Bible notwithstanding, occurs in both Catholic and Protestant churches. Any stand–up against all things unnatural is regarded as hateful, hate speech at work and is for this natural, radical, hateful progressive OFFENSIVE. AND ABORTION. There is no such thing as pro–choice. There is only pro–life or pro–death: abortion. Abortion is nothing more than the killing of a young human–being in the womb. It is biblically wrong, morally the same, and right–thinking men and women, whether of faith or not believe that abortion is just simply dead wrong. But that, and the laws now of some 24 states (about half of America) will permit baby killing to go on. And that is unbelievably offensive to the modern–day progressive and they will do whatever is necessary to keep the killing fields alive.AND EVANGELISM. Progressives hate witness and testimony about Jesus Christ, hate it with a passion. They are determined to end free speech especially as it applies to religion. They care nothing about the First Amendment and the rights, the inalienable rights it guarantees including religion, speech, press, assembly and petition and they are determined to confine Christianity to the four walls of a church, NO MORE! Christians share their faith as do other people of faith. They do so with words and deeds, a Constitutional right and freedom, necessary as a command of the savior (another offense) and the firstfruits of a born–again believer (another offense to progressives). Progressives want Christians to keep their faith to themselves (for now) and keep Christ out of the marketplace and the culture at large. In short, they wish the end of evangelism, of testimony, of testifying for faith in Christ or God in any other religion no matter the Constitution. To hear words about or see evidence of God, Jesus Christ or anything else religious is patently offensive and it must be eliminated by any means. The fight is on my fellow Christians, big time. It will last the rest of your life and mine! There is an anti–Christian, anti–American army of determined radical soldiers who will never stop, never quit until they accomplish their ultimate objective:THE DESTRUCTION OF AMERICA AND ALL THINGS CHRISTIAN! Again, I remind you that you are in this fight of faith, like it or not. You must decide how you will fight, with what weapons, spiritual or otherwise and you must do it NOW, NOW! You can't wait because they the enemy will not wait, not one day. They are at work even now whether you know it or not. Every waking moment of these radical, hateful, Soros–Alinsky disciples is dedicated to the destruction of America and Christianity. And that, I do fear, will happen unless you, YOU stand–up, fight back, resist, protect, be proactive, protect your freedoms as GOD would lead and direct you. More than ever, housewife, plain American person, God and Country need you more than ever, MORE THAN EVER! Never forget that the loss of basic freedoms including freedom of religion can be lost in one generation, a generation which exists even now. And, never forget the famous words of President Ronald Reagan:FREEDOMS ONCE LOST ARE LOST FOREVER!What will you do?

JESUS CHRIST, OUR HIGH PRIEST OF THE GOOD THINGS THAT HAVE COME. ONE OF THE THINGS THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS INCREASING AWARENESS OF THE THIRD-DAY CHURCH IN THIS NEW DAY IS THE REVELATION OF THE MYSTERY OF THE PRIESTHOOD OF CHRIST. MORE THAN EVER, WE ARE BEING CALLED TO WALK IN THE HIGHER UNDERSTANDING OF THE ASCENDING LIFE OF CHRIST AS OUR CHIEF HIGH PRIEST. IN THE REVELATION OF THE HIGH PRIEST OF CHRIST, WE NOTICED A DIVINE ORDER OF KINGDOM GOVERNMENT THAT ENABLED PAUL, AND THE REST OF THE EARLY APOSTLES TO FUNCTION WITH SUCH A LEVEL OF LIFE THAT THE RESISTANCE OF THEIR DAYS COULD NOT STOP. THE ECCLESIA OF THE LAST DAY MUST ALSO WALK IN THIS INCREASED REALITY OF THE ADVANCED PRIESTHOOD OF CHRIST, SO THAT WE CAN FULFIL ALL THE PURPOSES AND PROPHETIC INTENTIONS OF THE FATHER FOR THE SEASON. THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD EMPOWERS THE ECCLESIA WITH NEW LIGHT, NEW UNDERSTANDING AND REVELATION TO ENTER INTO THE POWER OF THE ASCENDED PRIESTLY REVELATION IN CHRIST. BUT WHEN CHRIST CAME AS HIGH PRIEST OF THE GOOD THINGS THAT HAVE COME, HE WENT THROUGH THE GREATER AND MORE PERFECT TABERNACLE THAT IS NOT MADE BY HANDS AND IS NOT A PART OF THIS CREATION. A neat show today, starting with Gunnar Nelson of the rock band Nelson. Gunnar & his twin Matthew broke on the scene in 1990 with their "After The Rain" album (which came out during my DJ days at "The All-New, All-Hit B-103" in State College, PA). Their first single "(Can't Live Without Your) Love & Affection" went to #1. Other singles included the title track, "More Than Ever" and "Only Time Will Tell." Nelson is at the Sellersville Theatre this Friday 7/16 (6pm & 9pm) for "Ricky Nelson Remembered Starring Matthew & Gunnar Nelson" (info at st94.com). Ricky was their dad who had two #1 songs (Poor Little Fool in 1958 and Travelin' Man in 1961) and another 16 Top 10 songs. Nelson's grandparents were none other than Ozzie & Harriet Nelson of "The Ozzie & Harriet Show" which started on the radio in 1944 and added TV to the mix in 1952. It remains the longest-running live action sitcom in U.S. history by number of episodes aired. Ozzie Nelson was a bandleader and had a #1 hit entitled "And Then Some" in 1935. That #1, along with Ricky's two #1 songs and Nelson's #1 make them the only family to have a #1 song in each of three consecutive generations. Former NFL player & longtime Philadelphia broadcaster Garry "G" Cobb also checks in to talk Eagles football just ahead of training camp and to share thoughts about & life lessons learned from his father Jesse aka "Pops" who passed away recently. Whenever Garry joins the show, he always shares not only good football & sports knowledge but also insight and encouragement pertaining to family, character, and faith in God--all usually with a humorous tone woven throughout. We're glad for Garry's friendship and willingness to hop on the air periodically. You can check him out at www.gcobb.com. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

And now we come to the end of season 5. This is been a lot of hard work to write and put together, but it’s also been an absolute joy. I knew Jake and Monica would go on lots of adventures over the course of this season, but never envisioned many of them. Of course, there were some journeys that could not be completed, even though I wrote the scripts for those episodes, and if you become a patron of the Ostium Network at patreon.com/ostiumpodcast you’ll get to read those scripts. I always knew Jake and Monica would make it back together at some point, but not exactly how, and what interesting trinkets they’d be bringing along. For now this brings an end to their journey in searching for each other through many of the doors of Ostium, and now they are back together. It also represents a break until the beginning of their next adventure coming in 2021 with season six. Stay tuned and keep your ears open for aural breadcrumbs and auditory surprises being released before the start of next season. This episode was written by Alex C. For this Deep Dive we are welcoming Gunnar Nelson to tell us the full story behind the Nelson's blockbuster debut album After the Rain. Few rock albums from that era stand the test of time like this one, helped by several smash hits like "More Than Ever" and "Can't Live Without Your) Love and Affection". Gunnar tells us how he and Matthew wrote the songs, the obstacles they had to overcome to release it and make it a hit, and much more. Gunnar's honesty and passion is infectious. In this week's episode, we're talking about the upcoming US election and how the “k shaped recovery” is effecting voters’ expectations, the business of influencers/content creators, and why you need to understand them as the present, and future business owners. Lastly, we touch on the BOOMING IPO market and why it’s not 1999 all over again. This is a great episode if you want some hot takes on where to focus your efforts in regards to content creation and influencer marketing.Listen on Apple, Spotify, or Google Podcasts. If you aren’t in the Reformed Millennials Facebook Group join us for daily updates, discussions, and deep dives into the investable trends Millennials should be paying attention to.👉 For specific investment questions or advice contact Joel @ Gold Investment Management.💃 Influencers. Marketing. Creators. - Why They Matter And How They Make Money 🕺MORE THAN EVER, WE BUY THE PERSON, THEN THE PRODUCT. BUT WHAT PRODUCTS DO WE BUY?That depends on the focus of the creator/influencer, but also the model leveraged. As the creator economy develops, new approaches to monetization are emerging. The framework below outlines the three primary ways creators leverage their audience to build wealth:promoting other people’s products, selling their own products, andinvesting in their audience or alongside them1. PROMOTELike traditional media businesses, creators have profited from ad dollars. Platforms that solve distribution like Instagram and YouTube have made this viable, as creators are able to capture attention and monetize it in the same place. The straightforwardness of this model allows it to succeed across mediums. Newsletters like Morning Brew, The Hustle, and Not Boring ensure no cost is directly borne by consumers by making space for sponsors. Podcasts like Revisionist History and My Favorite Murder earn their millions plugging Casper mattresses, without requiring customer payment.2. SELLBetter infrastructure has enabled creators to sell their own products, both digital and physical. This changes how creators interact with the first wave platforms described above, using them as lead-generation to monetize elsewhere. It also allows for greater imagination — instead of spending time courting advertisers and pondering how to best sell a pair of jeans, creators can devote time to improving or expanding upon the content fans enjoy.Think of the following as facilitators:- Patreon,- Gumroad,- Substack,- OnlyFans,- ShopifyListen to the episode to hear us talk more in-depth on the topic… and to hear some examples of the 3rd prong.🐣IPO’s ARE BOOMING🐥IPO Fever is absolutely happening but the 1999 comparisons are inappropriate… for now.Below is a chart from Ari Wald at Oppenheimer to show the difference between today’s IPO market and 1999/2000.📃Politics🗞️“K” Shaped Recovery? and the Chris SNL monologue:What has developed is more like a K. On the upper arm of the K are well-educated and well-off people, businesses tied to the digital economy or supplying domestic necessities, and regions such as tech-forward Western cities. By and large, they are prospering.*On the bottom arm are lower-wage workers with fewer credentials, old-line businesses and regions tied to tourism and public gatherings. They can expect to bear years-long scars from the crisis*If the K-shaped recovery continues on its present course, the next Democratic nominee will basically be the ideological descendent of Che Guevara.** And the reaction on the right will be who knows what – but certainly something of an extreme in order to counter-balance.What’s going on right now in terms of economic inequality is so utterly unsustainable that it’s a miracle that every major city in America isn’t experiencing what Portland is.In Chris Rocks SNL skit he made the point that we may need to rethink the entire relationship Americans have with their government, in light of the fact that government seems not to be able to function anymore. Rock’s joke premise about how we have a Constitution instead of having a king – but that we’ve inadvertently created a class of Dukes and Dutchesses in Congress to represent poor people – is more reality than it is the setup for a joke. Especially when you consider how completely voiceless the working poor have become as a result of the current economic recovery leaving them even further behind.Black and Hispanic women held many of the restaurant, retail and hospitality jobs that were badly hit by lockdowns. Black women held 11.9% fewer jobs in September than in February, and Hispanic women held 12.9% fewer, according to the Labor Department. White men have been the group least affected, with 5.4% fewer jobs…By September, workers with bachelor’s degrees or higher had nearly fully recovered jobs lost in early spring. But those with just a high-school diploma held 11.7% fewer jobs in September than in February, according to Labor Department data, and high-school dropouts had 18.3% fewer. The two groups combined were down by 4.4 million jobs—amounting to around 40% of the employment that remains lost since the pandemic began—although they are only 27% of the labor force…Nearly 30% of white employees held jobs they could do from home in 2017 and 2018, according to the department, compared to 19.7% of Black workers and 16.2% of Hispanic workers did.The same Labor Department report found that 61.5% of the upper quarter of earners could work from home, compared with 9.2% of the bottom quarter.🌊 Interesting things and Hot Links From the Week 🌊Windows 95 launched 25 years ago this week. With special guest Matt Kato (formerly of Game Informer), Matt Helgeson takes a look at two women-led albums: Girl Ray’s shimmery debut “Earl Grey” and Lydia Loveless’s “Real”. With songwriting sensibilities well beyond their years, both acts seem somewhat out of time – “Earl Grey” is a 2017 record that could’ve come out fifty years earlier, while Loveless’s full country twang is tragically suited to the real-life heartbreak she recounts on “Real” (which she recorded with her then-husband, 20 years her senior, while their marriage was falling apart. Ouch.). Kato sticks around for some dynamite community questions, like chiptune vs. orchestral game music, video game references in popular music, and covers that sold us on the original song. Wow, what strange, nerve-racking and global times we are living in. This pandemic certainly underscores for me how interdependent we all are and how important it is – MORE THAN EVER – that we pull together to create a more livable, humane, pleasurable and sustainable world. There is great power in where we place our attention – and we can focus on the positive world we are trying to create – the diamonds that form under great pressure, the lotus flower than blooms out of the muck. To quote a signature message of this podcast (Pete Drucker) “The best way to predict the future is to create it.” Our podcast today focuses on negotiation skills for women, and the body. This topic evokes a lot in me. In fact, the night before I recorded it, I woke up at three in the morning and wrote down these thoughts. • First, that (as my last guest Thomas Hubl suggested), “the feminine” is the body; • That my body didn't belong to me for a lot of my life; • That my sexuality also didn't belong to me until I did a lot of work to reclaim it; • Regarding the phrases “I want” and “I need”, which are so important in negotiation and conflict resolution -- I wasn't supposed to have wants, and I'm not sure about needs either. As a girl in my family, I was supposed to serve, and I was supposed to accommodate; • It was hard for me to have a clear connection to my “yes” and particularly to my “no”. And, if not connected to your “no”, it can be difficult to walk away from a negotiation -- which is fundamental to power; • I didn't feel safe claiming value, a popular negotiation concept, because I was taught so deeply that I was supposed to let a man do that; • Though, throughout the course of my life I have cleared out a lot of unhelpful acculturation, I'm aware of the depth with which these ideas still live in my body. My two guests in this episode, Dr. Deborah Heifetz and Dr. Martha Eddy, are both dancers and embodiment conflict resolution experts. Among other cool things about Deborah, she served as a special advisor to the crisis management team of the Israeli police and acted in Track II Israeli-Palestinian negotiations. She currently lives in northern Italy where, with her husband and other Italian changemakers, they are working to have their geo- region become a prototype for human scale, community-based sustainable development. Martha is an author, researcher and worldwide lecturer on somatics (i.e. the body as experienced from within), peace and violence prevention and the role of the body in negotiation. She lives with her family in New York City. As I recounted my 3a.m. thoughts to the two of them, Martha shook her head in agreement. As someone who is so deeply experienced with the body, she affirmed that my reality is pretty universal to women. She's not aware of many, if not any cultures that uplift the strength and value of the female, such that the female body, or our experience as females in the body, comes forth as power automatically. It's like “swimming upstream to find our power and reclaim it” she says. For Deborah, the first trauma she experienced was being born female. She had three older brothers, a very patriarchal father and mother, and felt inherently less valuable. She says, “ I was the whipped cream on the cake, but I didn't want to be the whipped cream, I wanted to be the cake. I wanted to be where the action was, where the real politic was.” In talking about the inspiration for her work, Martha talks about the influence of her gender-fluid parents, her father who had sexual relations with men and liked gardening, her mother who liked to shoot out windows with her BB gun, and her very sensitive brother, who was not allowed to be the way he was in the very macho and rough climate of Spanish Harlem in New York City. Deborah says “the body is the central location for social change -- that it all begins with the body.” Martha concretely observes that young women who literally can pull their own body weight up, have a different kind of agency, a different kind of ability to self protect. We women “need to self-assert, without hiding, to step, forward to stand up. These words mean something” she says. Please enjoy these two unique voices and share with us in the comments below “What is your experience of the body in negotiation?”

We are going through a global crisis and right now MORE THAN EVER, it's really important to shift your messaging and your marketing to accommodate people's shift of perspective. I have LOOOOONG thought Bro Marketing was a dying form of marketing but with what has just happened in our world, it doesn't have much life left. It is SO important that you are NOT bro marketing right now. So if you don't know what it is, use this episode to inform yourself on what not to do. Do you only care about the bottom line (aka the sale and money in your bank) OR do you actually care about the people who you help? There is a style of marketing out there that completely disregards the people who you desperately want to help and unfortunately, it’s a lot of what is being taught out there on the internet. I’m talking about Bro Marketing. Which is a style of marketing that prioritizes the sale over the customer. This marketing tactic doesn’t give two shits about customer loyalty or if the client returns. You may unknowingly be bro marketing based on the advice of a so-called "marketing expert". And if you are, you might be sabotaging your business and completely crushing your soul. In today’s episode of the HIGH on Business Podcast, I am talking ALL about this inauthentic form of marketing and how to avoid it to stay aligned with your mission and your values which is incredibly important in today's new world. Are you ready to get clear on your niche so you can start growing your business and reach more of your dream clients? On April 3rd, I am hosting a 2-hour live interactive workshop on finding your niche. I PROMISE, this will be the last niche training you ever need. Brett Garsed is one of Australia's most cherished guitar players. Known to most for his long time work in John Farnham's band, playing on the 24 times platinum (and biggest Australian release of all time) release, Whispering Jack as well as a long list of other classic Farnham albums. Not familiar? Maybe songs such as You're the Voice, Two Strong Hearts, Reasons, Pressure Down and Age of Reason to name a few that might jog your memory! That could be enough to ride the wave of glory until the end of time, however after the Farnham album 'Age of Reason', Brett decided to take a shot at the US market, relocating to Los Angeles and joining the band Nelson which subsequently lead to the release of the US double platinum album, 'After the Rain'. Not familiar? I Can't Live Without Your (Love and Affection), More Than Ever, Only Time Will Tell and of course the title track can't be forgotten! Hit after hit, after hit. By the early 90s, Brett had already worked with some of the world's very best. After Nelson fizzled out by the mid-90s, Brett went on to stay in Los Angeles for a total of 14 years contributing to various projects with some of rock's elite such as Derek Sherinian (ex-Dream Theater) playing on several Planet X releases, and embarking on a long run with guitar freakshow (I say that with endearment!), TJ Helmerich. In the early 2000's, Brett made the decision to come back to Australia and return to regional Victoria where he grew up as a child. Returning to John Farnham's band, releasing solo albums and popping up as a guest on various projects, events and tours, Brett is still in the thick of it and held in high regard as one of Australia's greatest guitarists. When Brett said yes to be on the podcast, I didn't hesitate in travelling to Brett's place to chew his ear off about his career and thoughts on specific songs he's been a part of over the years (I had to ask him about Let Me Out - what a solo!). I also picking his brain about some of the big decisions he has made over the years, comparisons of working with different artists and some of those 'pinch yourself' moments that many of us musicians and music fans in general would only dream of experiencing. As always, I ask a bunch of stupid questions and I also had Mark Furtner (from our band LORD) contribute a small Q&A section toward the end of the chat. That's worth listening to alone! Thank you mork. If you want to learn more about Brett and his incredible career and mountain of work, be sure to check out his website, follow him on the socials and reach out to say hi. Welcome to episode 7, the year in review and the year ahead. I like to think of it as the best of 2018. But since we only started on November 28th, it’s also the ALL of 2018. By way of a brief review, and for any first-time listeners, this podcasts is all about relationships. Experience and observation have taught me that relationships are one of the most rewarding aspects of life, and at the same time, one of the most frustrating. The goal of this podcast is to help people experience more of the rewards of relationships, and less of the frustrations. Like many others, I firmly believe we are all made for relationships. We’re not meant to live life alone. That’s how the name of the podcast came to be, Your Were Made for This. The “this” we were made for is fulfilling, life-giving relationships. It’s just the opposite of a what a recent Wall Street Journal article describes about baby boomers being the most isolated generation of all. I’ll have a link to the article at the end of the show notes. It’s entitled, “The Loneliest Generation: Americans, More Than Ever, Are Aging Alone.” When you read the stories of people, and how they’re living alone, well it’s really quite sad. The purpose of this podcast is to somehow, in some small measure, stem the tide of loneliness by contributing something to help people transform their relationships into the best they can be. The podcast is to be something that actually helps people, rather just another outlet for creative expression. This podcast is to be about YOU, not me. Whether we’ve succeeded at this in the first 4 weeks of the show is up to you the listener to decide. But that’s my goal. Another goal of the podcast is that it become a means of community for people who would like to to be encouraged by stories of others who are making progress in transforming their relationships into the best they can be. I’m not exactly sure how that’s going to work. Maybe it will be a Facebook group later, I don’t know. We’ll see. Toward this goal, and for this last podcast of 2018, I want to share today selected responses I’ve received from listeners regarding the podcasts aired so far. I’ve received a fair number of emails and comments from people saying they like what they’re hearing so far. I’ve also received some feedback from folks with suggestions for ways to improve the podcast, which I’ve appreciated. In today’s program I want to share responses of people who actually changed as a result of what they heard in one or more of the six episodes aired this year. Changed either their behavior, or the way they think. I plan to do something like this every now and then to foster a sense of community. As well as to encourage you in transforming YOUR relationships into the best they can be. So I would appreciate hearing from YOU with stories YOU have of applying what you’ve learned on this podcast. You can either leave comments in the box below in the show notes, send an email to john@caringforothers.org, or direct message me in Facebook. Okay, on to the listener responses. In the very first episode, I mentioned that I plan to share relationship principles and skills through stories, both my own, and from guests I interview. The older I get, the more I appreciate what a powerful learning tool stories can be. One story I shared at the end of episode one was the story of when I was 15 and a neighbor boy, we affectionately called Bozo, was killed. I mentioned the scene of watching my dad walking down the middle of our street, with his arms over the shoulder of the father of whose son had just died hours before. The picture of that scene is still vivid in my memory, and it was something that helped me see my relationship with my father in a new light, and to forgive him for how he treated me. After hearing this story in episode one, one listener wrote to tell me, “My husband and I listened to your 1st podcast. We were really gripped by the story of your dad and the death of Bozo. We talked about it and this morning called a friend who just this week lost his wife. Thanks, John. You are making a difference.” I can’t tell you how much that encouraged me, to know someone took action, and actually did something to care for a hurting friend. It reminded me of a phrase I use often, and which you’ll hear on this podcast from time to time. And that is, when we try to bring out the best in others, we bring out the best in ourselves. These 2 listeners trying to bring out the best that was in their grieving friend. I don’t know what they said to him, but I know this couple and they have a heart to help people. For the grieving husband to know someone cares enough to make a phone call to him has got to help deal with his sorrow. ___________________________________ In responding to Episode 2, “The Gift of a Background Relationship,” a listener from Pennsylvania wrote: “I loved the story about the relationship you have with your mother-in-law…in your podcast you ask each to think about someone in their lives like this [ This was in reference to the end of the movie about Mr. Rogers, Won’t You Be my Neighbor. The film showed co-workers of Mr. Rogers tearing up as they re-called people from their past who believed in them; who nurtured them.] "It came to mind yesterday morning shortly after I got a doe on the last day of the PA deer season. I reflected on my father, a man of few words, but his actions spoke deep love. Until yesterday, I had not shed one tear over my father’s passing 9 years ago. But, up on the mountain, as I looked over the valley…, I thought of dad and how much I miss him. He would have loved the moment of hearing that I got a deer and he would have loved butchering it. It was how we connected. It was an emotional moment, a precious moment. I never felt I needed to shed a tear over dad’s death because all was good when God took him home. So those very few tears yesterday morning were ones of thankfulness and appreciation for God’s gift of my father to me.” Man, that encouraged my heart to know the story of my relationship with my mother-in-law triggered something within this listener to reflect with appreciation on his relationship with his father. And to shed a few tears of gratitude for him. ___________________________________ Another response to episode 2 comes for a missionary serving in the Mideast. This person writes: “I must say just as you were encouraged by seeing the kindness in Janet's singing with her mother, so I have always been positively affected by any time I have had with you. Listening to your family's Life Achievement Award list, or your caring for a trying dog, or your lovely memories of your mother-in-law had me laughing uncontrollably one moment and then soberly contemplating the truth that was being shared. How grateful I am for you, for your willingness to open your life so we, the listeners, can be trained in loving each other more fully. Thank you for including me in the privileged group that gets to listen!” I think the more we open up our lives to each other, the greater the chance for a deeper relationship we can have with each other. We can learn to love well when we have the heart and take the time to watch how others love. We’re all teachers, for good or ill, because people are watching. More than we realize. ___________________________________ Episode 3, “The Gift for the Person who has Everything,” drew this response from a listener: “I liked episode 3. I’m going to incorporate a ‘lifetime achievement award’ for my husband’s 60th birthday. I also subscribed to your podcast.” This is great to hear. Something very practical this woman can do to honor her husband. It’s action she can take. Taking action, the right action, can be very helpful in transforming a good relationship already into the best relationship it can be. I plan to share more of these relationship tips, or hacks, as they’re now called, moving into 2019. There are specific relationship skills we’ll be examining and practicing in the months ahead. ___________________________________ Episode 4, “The Gift of Even Though,” evoked this response from a listener: “Your podcast about joy and how sharing in others’ joy, multiples joy - it’s not a zero sum game. This really resonated with me! My husband and I have been able to have kids easily and when we are around friends who struggle with infertility, I feel guilty sharing the joys of my children. It was so beautiful to hear how your friends [Vern and Lorraine] had many “children” without having their own.” I take this to mean, there was a change in thinking in how she viewed sharing the joy of her children with childless friends. By not sharing your joy, you may be depriving them of their joy. That joy, like love, is an unlimited natural resources that never depletes. In fact, the more you share in the joys of others, the more joy multiplies itself. It seems this perspective helps in easing any guilt feelings. After all, what is the listener guilty of? Being blessed with children. I can understand there are times when we share our joy it is met with a “must be nice” response. That is painful, for sure. There’s that verse in the Bible about “Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.” That’s a command to be joyful over the joy of others, not a suggestion. For many of us that’s harder to do than to mourn with people, than to feel their pain. ___________________________________ Another listener, this one a missionary serving in Eastern Europe, wrote: "I'm so glad you’d decided to do a podcast! I’ve listened to all of them so far and look forward to listening further. Glad I could be your connection in this part of the world! "Over the past few years, I’ve found myself being placed in more ministry leadership-type positions. As my responsibilities have increased, and (potential) impact expanded, I’ve noticed that my limitations in relationships have restricted some of my potential influence. Plus, of course, I totally agree we are made for community, so this affects my own well being too. But, praise God I am a work in progress, can by his grace grow, and can learn from others, like yourself!” What a great attitude, and such self-awareness! One relationship that gets less attention than it deserves is our relationship with our self. Self-awareness is such an important leadership trait. Without it, we suffer the consequences of exceeding our limitations, alienating people at times, and hindering the achievement of our organization’s goals. We’ll be talking about self-awareness in future episodes of You Were Made for This. ___________________________________ Finally, another listener wrote, “Hi John, I just wanted to let you know how much the last two podcasts specific to joy meant to me. It made so much sense to me and gave Jesus/Others/You so much more meaning and depth. I think with the last two especially you are finding your zone.” ___________________________________ All of this leads us to the main take-away from today’s episode, our show in a sentence Listening well to the relationships stories of others can teach us much to help transform our relationships into the best they can be Response (Call to Action) to today’s show You can encourage others by sharing stories here on this podcast of what you’re doing to help transform your relationships into the best they can be. It can be an action, or even a different way of thinking about your relationship. You can either leave comments in the box below in the show notes, send an email to john@caringforothers.org, or direct message me in Facebook. Your identity will be kept confidential. Coming up next week…and next year Next week’s episode the first of 2019, will feature our very first interview. The first of many to come in the new year. It’s a wonderful story of what a wife and her daughter did to care well for their husband/father. It’s a memorable and tender relationship story that I’m sure will find encouraging.
