Walters' approach to revising educational standards without public input or school district notification has contributed to a broader issue of undermining public education. This lack of openness and accountability has fostered skepticism among parents and educators, who are concerned about the long-term impact on students.Moreover, Walters' policies are perceived as part of a larger agenda to weaken public education in favor of promoting religious and private schooling. The tying of school accreditation to standardized test scores, coupled with new rules backed by religious organizations, threatens to penalize schools that do not meet the new criteria. This strategy appears to be designed to force schools into failure, thereby pushing them toward private or religious alternatives. The impact of these policies could be severe, as it sets up local school districts to struggle and potentially fail, harming students and diminishing the quality of public education.Educators have expressed concern that such policies not only misrepresent the effectiveness of educational reforms but also undermine the credibility and utility of educational assessments. The artificial inflation of performance metrics disregards the real needs and challenges of students and educators. This manipulation detracts from meaningful educational improvements and erodes the tools that educators use to evaluate and enhance their effectiveness. The overall effect is a potential rollback of educational progress and a deepening of the existing crisis in Oklahoma's public education system.Critics also warn that these changes could have long-term consequences for students who may enter higher education unprepared, believing they are more competent than they actually are. This mismatch between perceived and actual academic ability can lead to feelings of inadequacy and undermine students' confidence. The White House says that President Biden's new student loan forgiveness plan could help 30 million borrowers. Danielle Douglas-Gabriel, national higher education reporter at the Washington Post, shares her reporting and unpacks the details.

President Biden's new student loan cancellation plan. On Monday, President Biden unveiled a new plan that could erase some or all of the college loans for up to 30 million borrowers. The plan comes less than a year after the Supreme Court blocked a broader effort that would have forgiven an average of $20,000 for roughly 40 million Americans. Today, around 43 million Americans own about $1.7 trillion in student loan debt, or an average of just over $39,500 per borrower. Shear of The New York Times writes that on Monday, while speaking from Madison, Wisconsin, President Joe Biden “announced a large-scale effort to help pay off federal student loans for tens of millions of American borrowers, seeking an election-year boost by returning to a 2020 campaign promise that was blocked by the Supreme Court last year. Mr. Biden's new plan would reduce the amount that 25 million borrowers still owe on their undergraduate and graduate loans. It would wipe away the entire amount for more than four million Americans. Researchers at Guangdong University have concluded that jeans are as environmentally unfriendly as driving a gas-powered vehicle 6 miles. 4:40pm- Zach Kessel of National Review reports: “Rutgers University president Jonathan Holloway held a town hall with students Thursday night aimed at offering the school community the opportunity to ask him questions. Before he was able to answer a single one, anti-Israel protesters unleashed chaos. As Holloway attempted to address the crowd, ‘pro-Palestinian students interrupted the town hall and prevented the scheduled programming from happening.
