Zach Mercurio: The Power of Mattering Zach Mercurio is an author, researcher, and speaker specializing in purposeful leadership, mattering, meaningful work, and positive organizational psychology. He teaches a course with past guest Simon Sinek on how leaders can show everyone how they matter. He is the author of The Power of Mattering: How Leaders Can Create a Culture of Significance*. When you ask people what mattered in their careers, few cite the bonus, or the stock options, or the employee of the month award. What they do talk about are the times they were remembered, supported, thanked, and seen. In this conversation, Zach and I discuss how to do that better. Key Points When people are asked about when they mattered, they recall small moments of being remembered, helped, thanked, or seen. The behavior of a leader accounts for half of increased feelings of mattering and meaningfulness at work. Rather than identifying with a person's behavior identify first with the person. Look for the positive traits in a person or identify something that you love. Music is the space between the notes. In our informal interactions, we have the choice to turn against, turn away, or turn towards. Leaders who notice people well consistently follow three steps: observe, note, and share. Eckhart Tolle is one of the most influential spiritual teachers alive today. Matt O'Neill spent a weekend with him and discovered the two steps to spiritual enlightenment. Discover how to shift your manifestation mindset and consciously create the life you want. Matt shares Eckhart's profound insights on awakening your true self and taking back the power to consciously create your reality.  Through fascinating stories of his own spiritual journey from victim mentality to manifestation master, Matt explores how our thoughts and emotions shape our experiences in unseen ways. Listen and learn Eckhart's meditative practices for accessing inner peace, and how living in the present moment can transform your perspective and lead to fulfillment that no circumstance can shake. Here are some power takeaways from today's conversation:  How shifting your mindset from victim to manifestor can change everything Releasing suppressed anger and stress through spiritual awakening  Connecting to inner peace and happiness through meditation and presence Eckhart Tolle's meditative practices for accessing inner peace Why living in the present moment leads to lasting fulfillment [03:31] The First Step to Enlightenment Eckhart Tolle described the first step of awakening as recognizing that you are not a victim of outside circumstances, but rather you have the power to consciously create your own reality through your thoughts and emotional states. This realization lifts you out of victim consciousness and empowers you to take responsibility for manifesting improvement in your life by controlling your mental patterns and shifting to more positive mindsets. It is a crucial first step on the spiritual path toward enlightenment. [12:47] The Second Awakening The second awakening, as described by Eckhart Tolle, involves transcending the ego and deriving one's sense of self from their deeper inner consciousness or "true self.” It is realizing that true happiness and fulfillment come from within, rather than from external circumstances or achievements. Eckhart said this second stage of awakening involves discovering the "dimension within" through connecting to the eternal, peaceful part of our being that exists beyond thinking. Both Eckhart and Matt experienced this shift through profound life events like Eckhart's psychotic breakdown, which cracked open his mind to this deeper truth and led to a state of enlightenment. [22:55] Tuning Into the Present Eckhart stressed the value of living in the present moment. He noted that our senses can help ground us in the now. By focusing on your breath moving in and out, or the feeling of your heartbeat, you tap into the current situation. While thoughts may wander to past or future, senses keep us connected to what's happening right now. So taking a moment to notice sights, sounds or physical sensations can pull you from thinking and into simply being present – a key part of awakening to your true self. Welcome back to another episode of Freestyle Friday on the Travis Makes Friends Podcast. Here is a summary of today's episode:Quote of the Week:"Extremity expands capacity." – Ed MylettHot Take:You've been sold a lie: "If you're not upgrading your life, you're failing."Life isn't linear, and I learned this the hard way. In my 20s and early years of marriage, we moved ten times, constantly upgrading and accumulating more. But when my sales team quit, I faced a choice: rebuild or downsize. I chose the latter and rediscovered my true goals. We downsized, focused on my side hustle, and achieved financial success. I realized that constantly upgrading is often undisciplined spending. So, evaluate your financial situation, prioritize investments in yourself, and don't be afraid to downgrade if it aligns with your long-term vision. The Breakdown:Find out how the hell Grant Cardone, a child of immigrants, ex-drug addict, and former car salesman, built a multi-billion dollar real estate portfolio in less than eight years. His key strategy was focusing on attention rather than money. Grant's mission is for eight billion people to know his name, not necessarily like him. Familiarity breeds trust, and by consistently delivering value and fulfilling promises, he gained people's trust over time. The lesson is to prioritize earning attention that can eventually translate into trust, rather than solely focusing on immediate ROI.Q&A:Travis lists the three interviews he considers tentpole episodes of his show, discusses how certain interviews and conversations have challenged his beliefs, talks about the importance of maintaining connections with guests and so much more.Resources Mentioned:The Power of One More by Ed Mylett – https://amzn.to/3CiBmmHDig Your Well Before Your Thirsty by Harvey Mackay – https://amzn.to/3qp5MkzSpecial Offer for Travis Makes Friends Listeners:Get 16 free meals with the Hello Fresh discount code hellofresh.com/travis16Don't forget to subscribe to our Youtube Channel, @travismakesfriendsFollow Travis on:IG

Have you ever felt like there was a wet blanket over your mind or your heart, making it difficult to think or feel good? One reason this may be happening is because of Codependency. We experience codependency in many ways; maybe with where we live, our careers, the climate of our lives in general, but in this episode, Josh and Seth discuss Codependency within relationships. Since they can be the most difficult to navigate, overcoming Codependency in relationships could ultimately help us to overcome it in other areas of our lives as well.   In this episode you'll learn: How to identify Codependency in our relationships What to do when the confusion sets in and it's hard to see straight What it looks like when we enable boundary violations How FEAR drives us to be codependent Tools and Strategies to remove confusion from codependency Quotes “You're using your need for Connection as a facade to justify violating her boundaries” - Josh “I spent years in my marriage trying to conform to what she wanted me to be without knowing how to voice my needs in the relationship” - Seth   Links Host Name: Josh Cearbaugh https://joshcearbaugh.com  https://www.instagram.com/jcearbaugh/  https://facebook.com/joshcearbaugh  https://www.jumpstartyourlife.com  Links Host Name: Seth Conner https://sethconner.com https://www.instagram.com/sethaconner/ https://www.facebook.com/iSethConner/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/sethaconner/ Companies, Products & Places Mentioned Mushroom Doctor (psilocybin micro-dosing) www.MushroomDoctor.co/shop John Hopkins University (Depression/Smoking Cessation/Etc) (https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/psychiatry/research/psychedelics-research.html)   Resources Mentioned  The Power of TED (The Empowerment Dynamic) (https://www.amazon.com/POWER-TED-EMPOWERMENT-DYNAMIC-Anniversary/dp/0996871802) Default Mode Network (https://psychedelicstoday.com/2020/02/04/psychedelics-and-the-default-mode-network/)

In this episode of the Millionaire Mindcast, we have a stellar guest, Dean Graziosi who shares insights about the right mindset and habits you must-have during this quarantine, how to meet new opportunities, how to get ahead from everyone at the end, and how to win life! Dean Graziosi is an entrepreneur, a leader, lifelong learner, knowledge broker, investor, real estate expert, multiple NY Times best-selling author, and world-renowned success coach. He created a breakthrough course, held extremely high impact masterminds, worked with Tony Robbins, wrote best-selling books such as Millionnaire Success Habits, and Motor Million$, and hosted a top-rated podcast called The Dean Graziosi Show. He used to travel to speak to hundreds of thousands of people and make an impact worldwide by sharing strategies and knowledge to people in order to build a happy, fulfilled, rich, and successful life. He has shared his message through The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, TIME, USA Today, The New York Times, CNBC, ABC, CNN, Fox Business, Today, Oprah, The View, Yahoo, and Business Insider. Dean has been an entrepreneur for 30 years, he has been to multiple down markets, and this uncertainty is not new to him. The only thing he is certain is this is not the end of the world. We've been to wars, past pandemics, and other challenges and we've survived. The key is just setting the right mindset during this quarantine. Ask yourself, who do you want to be at the end of this? Are you just going to hide in fear or are you going to find ways to get ahead from others? If you choose the latter, think about strategies to level up your life. Start on simple things that need your focus, and work on things you don't have time before. Don't focus on regret, on what you've lost, and on things, you don't have but find ways to invest & grow, work on the relationships, start your business, and save money. Moreover, according to Dean, this is the time where you can thrive by planting seeds so you can harvest down the road. How you spend this time is how you are planting seeds by being energized, and innovative. Look at this time as a gift to evolve and improve yourself. This is the time we need more energy. Go with self-education or get a coach, practice more, & practice when no one is looking. This is not the time to wait for someone else to fix it. This is a time to step up, to be a leader, and to show people that you can thrive. Develop success habits and rituals. Turn on your defense and offense buttons, and be grateful whatever you have right now. Also, remember to level up your virtual connection in this social-distancing time. Some Questions I Ask: How are you supporting the people that are really struggling & scared with the circumstances we find ourselves right now? (00:59) What are some of the greatest habits in the book that if you were to pick one or two right now that applied now more than ever, which ones did you highlight? (05:39) What are some of the rituals and habits that help you stay more in hands with your awareness that people might not be working into their routine right now? (10:41) What are you sharpening right now and putting work ethic in on right now that's not maybe as natural or easy or habitual for Dean? (16:59) What is your overall sentiment or message to those people to learn the new pieces, tools, resources, and strategies to actually succeed and adapt in this new world that we find ourselves being pushed into? (24:53) What is Mastermind? (29:58) Where do you see trends and opportunities in times like now, what are you paying attention to? (34:11) What do you say to that person who feels being an impostor and has self-doubts to share things right now? (36:14) What is your overall outlook on the economy as a whole, and on real estate in this next cycle and how are you positioning yourself to continue building wealth? (40:12) I'm curious about your thoughts in regards to Recession or Depression? (42:16) If you will leave something of positivity to kind of spotlight a silver lining in all of these, what would you leave them today? (45:04) In This Episode, You Will Learn: How to step up during this crisis (06:33) Why you should be aware of your Internal Dialog (08:02) Why you need to play defense and offense to win in life (11:01) How to build certainty in these uncertain times (21:46) Starting Over versus Transitioning (25:38) Which is more valuable resources or resourcefulness (28:11) Analogy about life experiences to do amazing things (37:23) Quotes: “How you spend this time is how you are planting seeds.” “The most innovation in the world comes out when your backs are against the wall.” “A leader could be a leader of your family setting example for your kids, for your wife.” “People focus on what they lost or what they don't have can never go to another level.” “I believed I was born a pessimist who's fought my whole life to be an optimist.” “Success is often so simple, we overcomplicate it.” “It's the little things that add up to the big things.” “Work ethic is a recession-proof.” “You win games when no one is watching.” “No one is going to learn on the back of uncertainty.” “People need certainty in uncertain times.” “If you're not climbing you're sliding, not growing you're dying.” Resources Mentioned: The Power of Now book by Eckhart Tolle The Untethered Soul book by Michael A. As an advisor to the Edelman Trust Barometer, her research has been featured in several national publications. She is the author with Shalene Gupta of the book, The Power of Trust: How Companies Build It, Lose It, Regain It*. In this conversation, Sandra and I explore the three elements of a good apology in the professional setting. We also look at additional elements the research suggests may be useful in many places in our lives. Finally, Sandra highlights some ways we can do better on empathy in order to avoid situations where we destroy trust. Key Points Combine three elements for a good apology, especially in a professional setting: Acknowledgment of responsibility: The offender makes a statement that demonstrates they understand their part in the trust betrayal. Explanation: The offender describes the reasons for the problem. Offer of repair: The offender offers a solution for rebuilding trust. In addition, consider three more elements for apologies in any scenario: Expression of regret: The offender expresses how sorry they are. Declaration of repentance: The offender promises not to make the same mistake again. Request for forgiveness: The offender explicitly asks for pardon. To interrupt the reality that leaders tend to struggle with empathy: Reflect in writing with as much detail as possible about the people and situation in question. In this episode of the Millionaire Mindcast, we have a stellar guest, Dean Graziosi who shares insights about the right mindset and habits you must have during this quarantine, how to meet new opportunities, how to get ahead from everyone at the end, and how to win life! We’ve been to wars, past pandemics, and other challenges and we’ve survived. The key is just setting the right mindset during this quarantine. Ask yourself, who do you want to be at the end of this? Are you just going to hide in fear or are you going to find ways to get ahead from others? If you choose the latter, think about strategies to level up your life. Start on simple things that need your focus, and work on things you don’t have time before. Don’t focus on regret, on what you’ve lost, and on things, you don’t have but find ways to invest & grow, work on the relationships, start your business, and save money. (10:41) What are you sharpening right now and putting work ethic in on right now that’s not maybe as natural or easy or habitual for Dean? (16:59) What is your overall sentiment or message to those people to learn the new pieces, tools, resources, and strategies to actually succeed and adapt in this new world that we find ourselves being pushed into? (24:53) What is Mastermind? (29:58) Where do you see trends and opportunities in times like now, what are you paying attention to? (34:11) What do you say to that person who feels being an impostor and has self-doubts to share things right now? (36:14) What is your overall outlook on the economy as a whole, and on real estate in this next cycle and how are you positioning yourself to continue building wealth? (40:12) I’m curious about your thoughts in regards to Recession or Depression? (42:16) If you will leave something of positivity to kind of spotlight a silver lining in all of these, what would you leave them today? (45:04) In This Episode, You Will Learn: How to step up during this crisis (06:33) Why you should be aware of your Internal Dialog (08:02) Why you need to play defense and offense to win in life (11:01) How to build certainty in these uncertain times (21:46) Starting Over versus Transitioning (25:38) Which is more valuable resources or resourcefulness (28:11) Analogy about life experiences to do amazing things (37:23) Quotes: “How you spend this time is how you are planting seeds.” “The most innovation in the world comes out when your backs are against the wall.” “A leader could be a leader of your family setting example for your kids, for your wife.” “People focus on what they lost or what they don’t have can never go to another level.” “I believed I was born a pessimist who’s fought my whole life to be an optimist.” “Success is often so simple, we overcomplicate it.” “It’s the little things that add up to the big things.” “Work ethic is a recession-proof.” “You win games when no one is watching.” “No one is going to learn on the back of uncertainty.” “People need certainty in uncertain times.” “If you’re not climbing you’re sliding, not growing you’re dying.” Resources Mentioned: The Power of Now book by Eckhart Tolle The Untethered Soul book by Michael A. Technology allows us to do so much from the comfort of our homes. But just because we can doesn’t mean we should. Once everything is jammed into the same tech, it loses its texture and everything – personal and business – just becomes one blur.   Why is that important for business?  When we have the option of bringing everyone into a meeting now – because it can be done by the click of a button – we can make the mistake of prioritizing means instead of best outcome. There is no wrong or right, but we need to consider things like: Does this need to be a video chat, or just a call? Is there any requirement for a shared visual? Do I need to see everyone’s faces? Now that so many things could be done in a Zoom meeting, everything requires sitting in chair staring at computer. Experiences begin to lose their texture. When everything feels the same, everything feels like everything else you have done that day. We are missing out on the sensory experience of life and are constricted to what is front of you on screen; there is a dimming of the senses that we need to be aware of. If we don’t actively work to add texture, everything starts blurring together, and even fun things don’t feel that different from work.  It’s also interesting to notice the impact of having markedly fewer unplanned interactions, or how a thing feels different when you don’t have a kinetic experience of it. Places have a different texture. As The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows so aptly describes it, there is a sense of kenopsia, or the eeriness of a place left behind. In order to see people, we have to be more intentional about it; everything is more contrived by necessity, and we have to consider what connections we actively want to strengthen. A lot of the whimsical things of life have been lost; the nuance of experience, the surprise, is missing.  As mentioned in the Power of Moments, we mark time by moments, and our days have no distinct moments in them anymore, so everything blurs. Even things that could feel like moments are jammed into same conduit as everything else and begin to lose their distinction. Everything gets shoved into the same-shaped container. Observing the moments is the antidotes to the personal and mental fatigue. We need to find ways to add texture into our experiences again.  Resources Mentioned The Power of Moments, by Chip and Dan Heath. https://heathbrothers.com/the-power-of-moments/ What story do you want to tell? Tina is the author with Dan Siegel of two New York Times bestsellers, The Whole-Brain Child* and No Drama Discipline*, each of which has been translated into over forty languages. She’s recently released with Dan their newest book, The Power of Showing Up: How Parental Presence Shapes Who Our Kids Become and How Their Brains Get Wired*. In this conversation, Tina and I explore what it means to show up for kids and why it’s more than just being physically present. We discuss the distinction between being seen vs. being shamed. Plus, practical actions that parents, family members, and other caregivers can take to empower children. Key Points Our research and experience suggest that raising happy, healthy, flourishing kids requires parents to do just one key thing. It’s not about reading all the parenting best sellers or signing your kids up for all the right activities. You don’t even have to know exactly what you’re doing. Just show up. Intensive parenting is problematic not only because of the pressure it puts on parents, but because some research suggests that all this exhausting parental striving may not be the best way to raise children. Showing up is more than just being physically present. Many people don’t have the advantage of relationships. They grew up in families where almost all of the attention was focused on external and surface-level experiences. Billy claims that he fell in love with his wife and Santa Barbara simultaneously. This is the magical city that brought them together more than twenty-five years ago. The inspiration and truth Billy Mandarino presents in The Now-ist is a life-changing creation. Not only for the author but more importantly, the readers and souls he serves. With a spiritual hunger that is never quenched, Billy dives deep into the essence of us all. He takes the commonplace and makes it “real.” Growing up in a five-sibling, multiple-divorces family, with all its dynamic layers and change, initially shaped the author’s spirituality. Transformed by various religious practices and study throughout his life, he has recognized via life experience, the treasures that reside within us all to be discovered. It is his ultimate calling to light the way, for the ones called to the same magnetic energy that inspired him to write this very book. Billy has a presence that is felt in his writing and penetrates even deeper in person. Most of his life, people are drawn to him for advice and direction in all areas of life. He is incessantly of service to others and has recognized that the inspiration to write The Now-ist is his highest calling. He feels uniquely blessed to share his light with millions around the globe. I met Jamie at a Meetup in November 2015. He was a corporate lawyer-turned-restauranteur who was fresh off a Costa Rican sabbatical with his family and I had recently made the decision to quit practicing law and do...well, something else. While I wasn't sure what I was going to do just yet, my wife and I knew we wanted to do something that would eventually allow us to be location independent and we had recently put Costa Rica on our shortlist of potential countries for a first move. I took this chance lunchtime encounter as a not-so-subtle hint from the Universe that I was on the right track. Today, you can find Jamie commuting to Pittsburgh as the Vice President and General Counsel of Montauk Energy, a renewable energy company that converts methane gas from landfills into renewable energy. A supporter of the podcast since day one, I'm delighted to finally have Jamie on the show. Enjoy! Key moments from this episode: 8:07 — Where his entrepreneurial mindset was forged 21:00 — How pro bono work led him to quit his corporate law job and open an Ethiopian restaurant 35:32 — How he made the decision to stop being a lawyer and take a different path 38:47 — Making lifestyle compromises to bring his vision to life 42:30 — Selling the restaurant and taking a family sabbatical in Costa Rica 52:50 — Finding his way back into the corporate world *** Connect with Jamie on LinkedIn and FindYourCostaRica.com You can listen to this episode above or on iTunes. Ramona is a 200hr RYT, and teacher of Embodied Energy Medicine. She has studied alternative health and wellness for over 17 years. The time is now for all of us to come together, with our hearts ablaze from the inside out. Activating one another to ever greater levels of peace, love, joy, and connection. Having received several light initiations via deep trance meditation and diving deeply into my cellular matrix, I believe we are ready to ignite our inner diamond fires which will assist in creating a ground swell of vibrant love for this planet and each other. We have come to depend on technology for every aspect of our lives—our social lives, work lives, and day-to-day living involves us plugging into our phones or computers. It’s very easy to fall into the trap of believing we are run by technology, when, in actuality, we still have the power to dictate how and when we employ its use. In today’s episode of She Rises, Giovanna and Ramona Bernardi discuss the importance of replacing media with silence; connecting with one’s self as opposed to connecting to technology. Tune-in to learn why staying in control of technology and its uses gives us the time and space to reflect on the matters within. Giovanna is sharing her recorded conversation with Ramona today Check out She Rises Podcast website and leave us a comment Share the message to your friends! Ramona is Giovanna’s soul sister This weekend, Giovanna engaged in a media blackout, she silenced all her technology As soon as Giovanna disconnected, she felt her breath return She noticed her addiction to food and eating “Boredom itself is disconnection of source” How can you be bored if you’re present in the moment? Giovanna challenged herself to go into the dark for 3 nights Her inspiration for this came from a conversation with a friend; she wanted to connect herself to God Giovanna also recognized she had a trigger point in the dark The first night, Giovanna experienced panic and terror Her third night was the best night for Giovanna Boredom is a coping mechanism—it happens when Ramona is not stimulated “Boredom is just resistance to connecting with yourself” Try to put yourself in silence for a weekend Giovanna shares about the book she read, The Power of Receiving We cannot receiving anything unless we are in a receptive state The word that came to Giovanna when she meditated was ‘receiving’ Ramona experienced so much transformation in the weeks her mother was away for a trip in Europe Ramona learned to embrace her inner child and realized she was growing into a mother herself When her mother returned, Ramona saw that she was becoming more of a woman rather than a child Gift yourself space and reflection to connect to yourself and see what needs healing We aren’t taught how to deal with our feelings We get rewarded for suppressing the feelings Learn to parent the child within Ramona shares about the children’s book, How to Love Myself and Others Fill yourself first, before you give to others Human beings don’t have the skills to really connect with themselves, especially with all this technology and media around us Ramona recognized the toxicity of social media in her life, so she disconnected “It wasn’t an easy transition” How can you remain IN CONTROL rather than be controlled by what’s around us? A Course in Miracles teaches us how to pay close attention of when we allow the ego to take control of us Ramona wants to revive the art of conversation We’re losing the art of conversation as a human race Pop culture is and has always been the focus of young adults’ conversations Giovanna and Ramona miss the freedom of childhood, before the invasion of technology Resistance to technology vs Bridging the gap with technology Beyond the benefits of using technology for emergencies, what do we really need our phones for? Take a breather when you can Allow yourself to rest – it is YOUR right Rest is the only way people can recharge to be the light that they are 3 Key Points: Give yourself the time and space to reflect and connect with yourself—this is how you can discern what needs healing in your life. Emotional intelligence is not explicitly taught to us throughout childhood. Technology can be both constructive and destructive – the result depends on us and the reasons why we use technology.
