"You can do a lot with very little means." That's the message Tomas Sjostrom, President of James Moore Technology Services, wants small and midsized businesses to understand when it comes to cybersecurity. In a conversation with Doug Green, publisher of Technology Reseller News, Sjostrom emphasized that protecting against cyber threats doesn't have to be prohibitively expensive or complex—something many SMEs mistakenly believe. Speaking at the ITEXPO, Sjostrom outlined the three business lines of James Moore Technology Services: technology services, AI-driven financial reconciliation, and HR consulting. With over 30 years in Florida's technology sector, the firm has developed a strong focus on business preparedness, particularly for disaster recovery and cybersecurity. Beyond IT support, James Moore also provides CIO-as-a-Service, helping small businesses develop strategic IT roadmaps without the overhead of a full-time executive. The company works extensively with the government, manufacturing, and healthcare sectors, ensuring that clients have the resilience and security to operate efficiently. Antonio Lutula has been the head coach at the Swedish National Centre in Stockholm since January 2022 and has already accomplished what many coaches wait a lifetime for. He led sprinting superstar Sarah Sjostrom to Olympic gold in both the 50 and 100 freestyle in Paris, her first Olympic titles in both events. Lutula discusses what coaching at the National Centre is like, why Sarah Sjostrom has been so consistent in racing, and what were the keys to winning gold in Paris.
Sarah Sjostrom dreamt of winning Olympic gold in the 100 free. Literally. She had a dream about herself winning a gold medal in the 100 free. Then did it. Sjostrom, the world record holder in both the 50 and 100 freestyle, had achieved everything in the sport there is to achieve in both events outside of individual Olympic titles in both. Coming into the Paris Olympics, Sjostrom herself wasn't even sure that she was going to swim the 100 free. But once Paris kicked off, the Swedish sprint star ended up competing in both and it paid off for her as the world saw her crowned Olympic champion twice in her two signature events.
“This is unbelievable. I didn't think I would swim the 100 free, honestly. After the freestyle relay on the first day, I told my coach, ‘No, I don't think 100 free's for me. I want to do the 50 and rest until the 50.' And he was like, ‘No way, you need to go out there and see what you can do, no matter the outcome.'” - Sarah Sjostrom “I think my reaction said everything. I didn't really know where I was exactly when I finished. It took a few seconds before I saw that I won. I just felt like I had a really good race and was 100 percent focused on all the details I've been working on.” - Sarah Sjostrom OUR SWIMMING PARTNERS: EO SWIM BETTER: Analyse your stroke technique with eo's SwimBETTER handsets. Alise Schostrom, co-founder and owner of Redhead Creamery, shares her farming journey and the story behind Curd Fest. Redhead Creamery is a dairy farm and farmstead cheese company located in central Minnesota. Elise and her family specialize in creating value-added products to compete in the market. They started with fresh cheese curds and cloth-bound cheddar, and have since expanded their product line to include Brie, garlic cheddar, whiskey-washed Munster, and more. They are also in the process of starting a distillery, where they will turn whey into spirits. Curd Fest is an annual event that showcases local food vendors, breweries, wineries, and live music. Kicking off a Tuesday morning, Jill Welke introduces us to Brad Olson, the new president of the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation. Olson says he brings a "look from the outside" after only having been a WFBF member since 2022. He does have tenure as a town and county board member. He's passionate about moving agriculture forward and is preparing for Ag Day at the Capitol, where he anticipates renewable energy, milk prices, and health care to dominate the conversation. Wisconsin is in a winter weather advisory today. Ag meteorologist Stu Muck has the details. In dairy news, every drop of milk produced in the U.S. is priced based on what's called the Federal Milk Marketing Orders. Now for the first time in decades, the dairy industry and USDA are looking at revising these complex rules. One problem that's been revealed is that the dairy farmers directly impacted by those orders may not even have a voice in accepting or denying the verdict, explains Lucas Sjostrom with Minnesota Milk and Edge Dairy Farmer Cooperative. This week marks the 11th week that USDA has been gathering testimony. Sjostrom says no one is sure when they'll conclude the process. Kiel High School makes sure that every student in after-school activities gets access to chocolate milk. Charitee Seebecker has the story. Finally, John Heinberg joins us live before speaking at the 2024 Agriculture Outlook Forum. Grain is the name of the game today. He says corn is drawing concern as China moves more of its business to South America. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Named after and guided by her parents, Jerry and Linda, Alise Sjostrom's Jer-Lindy Farms produces award-winning cheeses. A graduate of the University of Minnesota and Vermont Institue for Artisan Cheese, Sjostrom is quick to point out the biggest misconception about her line of work - that being lactose intolerant means you can't enjoy the fruits of her labor. “Cheese is actually quite low in lactose compared to dairy products like milk, cream, and yogurt,” says Sjostrom. “Most contain less than 2g per one ounce serving, which is far less than the 12-13g found in a one cup serving of milk.” Crediting the lessons she's learned along the way from others in the cheese industry and her team of owners and employees, Sjostrom not only produces cheese with her team at Redhead Creamery, but the business is also making it foray into the spirits industry. Listen in to find out which by-product of the cheese-making process is making its way into cocktails. To learn more about Sjostrom or to order Cheese, visit www.redheadcreamery.com. A bright future lies ahead of us with current AI developments. In this episode we discuss what's happening with AI in Silicon Valley with Andreas Sjostrom (Leading the applied innovation lab in San Francisco for Capgemini). Generative AI as well as large language models (think ChatGPT) pain a bright future for us. Sceptics would say that ethics shoot all AI developments in the foot but Andreas holds a techno positive attitude and tells us all about possibilities for more inclusion using AI. We discuss the release of Apple's Vision Pro and the marketing absence of the AI abbreviation during its release. The possibilities for the vision pro are endless. Will it be the next generation computer? The end of PC's and laptops as we know it? Food for discussion. The use of generative AI is a great development and an awesome companion for us. It is developing at an incredible pace. Just keep up and enjoy the ride.

Lean Into The Messy Ep. 9 | Jonas Sjostrom by Cedar Valley Church
Link to bioRxiv paper: http://biorxiv.org/cgi/content/short/2023.03.17.533173v1?rss=1 Authors: Gruver, K. M., Y, J. W., Fields, E., Song, S., Sjostrom, P. J., Watt, A. J. Abstract: Circuits in the brain are built from connections between neurons, where the spatial organization and functional properties of these connections determines circuit function. In the cerebellum, Purkinje cells transmit information to neurons in the cerebellar nuclei, but how Purkinje cell - nuclear neuron connections are organized remains unclear. Here, we explored the connections between Purkinje cells and cerebellar nuclear neurons using whole-cell electrophysiology and optogenetics to produce spatial connectivity maps of cerebellar cortical output. We observed non-random connectivity between Purkinje cells and their target neurons, with inputs to cerebellar nuclear neurons clustering along cerebellar transverse zones. While many nuclear neurons received inputs from a single zone, a number of different connectivity motifs were observed. Neurons receiving inputs from all four zones were more common than predicted by a random model and showed topographic organization in the nucleus. Finally, we observed that small Purkinje cell inputs were sufficient to pause the output of nuclear neurons, suggesting that widespread Purkinje cell synchrony may not be necessary to influence cerebellar output. These findings reveal cerebellar nuclear neurons as an important locus of multimodal cerebellar integration. Copy rights belong to original authors. Laurie Sjostrom is passionate about empowering parents to advocate effectively for their children with a serious medical diagnosis. As an intercultural communication expert working 21 years with top executives from multinational companies, Laurie trained experts on how to effectively get results from counterparts in other countries. After her first child was diagnosed with a very rare condition, Laurie encountered all of the overwhelming emotions and the disorientation of no longer knowing what was best for her kid. After her second child was diagnosed with 3 different serious issues, she experienced the transformation that today gives her the confidence to set up events for businesses that support families, speak on the radio, and raise awareness for Scoliosis treatment. Link to bioRxiv paper: http://biorxiv.org/cgi/content/short/2022.09.27.509759v1?rss=1 Authors: Watanabe, A., Guo, C., Sjostrom, P. J. Abstract: Though once thought of as passive support cells for neurons, it is now clear that astrocytes signal via calcium (Ca2+) to trigger gliotransmission that impacts surrounding neurons and synapses. We therefore investigated how astrocytes in layer-5 (L5) mouse visual cortex mature electrophysiologically and morphologically over postnatal days (P) 3 - 30 and how these relate to changes in spontaneous Ca2+ events. Across this age range, resting membrane potential increased, and input resistance decreased. Astrocytes also revealed different membrane responses to voltage steps: notably, membrane responses became more passive with age. Two-photon (2p) imaging of dye-loaded patched cells and confocal imaging revealed that gap-junction coupling increased starting around P7. Morphological reconstructions revealed increased branch density but also shorter branches after P20, suggesting that astrocyte branches may get pruned as dense tiling is established. Finally, we visualized spontaneous Ca2+ transients with 2p microscopy and found that Ca2+ events decorrelated, became more frequent as well as briefer with age. As astrocytes mature, spontaneous Ca2+ activity thus changes from relatively cell-wide, synchronous waves to local transients. Several astrocyte properties were stably mature from ~P15 onwards, although morphology continued to develop further. Our findings provide a descriptive foundation of astrocyte maturation, useful for the study of astrocytic impact on visual cortex critical period plasticity. Copy rights belong to original authors. What is the impact of our passion and what do we leave behind? This episode is centered around the life, work, and legacy of our friend, classmate, and fisheries researcher Anja Sjostrom who passed away in an accident in early January. This episode is meant to serve as an introduction to her work and what drove her to study her passion: the ocean, all the things that live inside it, and the people who are heavily connected and dependent on this resource. We are joined by her mother Natalie Cargill, her Ph.D. advisor at East Carolina University Cindy Grace-McCaskey, and her advisors in her Master's program at Oregon State University, professors Flaxen Conway and Lorenzo Ciannelli. Anja's life was centered around the ocean, her curiosity, empathy and ability to connect with people from various backgrounds lead her to a very impressive career at the nexus of social sciences and ecology. She is leaving a huge gap in our hearts, the science community and the world but we are thankful for having had the opportunity to meet such a beautiful soul. Please consider donating to the Anja Sjostrom Memorial Scholarship in Coastal Sciences to help young researchers like Anja to continue this important work to give underserved communities a voice in ocean management. We want to thank our partners at the American Shoreline Podcast Network and The Coastal Society for this opportunity, and our community for the support and love we have received during this incredibly difficult time.

Tyler sits down with Sarah Sjostrom, MNS, RN, ANCP-BC, the Associate Chief Nursing Officer at Harvard Medical School Affiliate, Hebrew Rehabilitation Center about something we all have plenty of these days, stress. They talk about stress in all of its manifestations, and illustrate how healthy stress-management not only mitigates against deleterious effects, but also strengthens us as individuals and provides a unique and powerful grown opportunity. Being “stressed out” is sometimes worn as a badge of honor, but this physiological response can set a series of additional physiological responses into motion, all of which are equally detrimental and preventable.

We sat down with world record-holder Sarah Sjostrom, who is on the road to recovery after breaking her elbow. Sjostrom gave us an update on her status, saying she's back in the pool and kicking about 3-3.5 kilometers daily. However, Sjostrom is also going to the gym and doing a heavy leg lift, then getting in a cycling workout daily as well, making her legs very tired by the end of the day. Sjostrom says she's never focused this much on her legs before and normally she just relies on her upper body strength in her swimming.
One of the things people in rural areas talk a lot about is entrepreneurship and building a successful business. On this episode, our president and CEO Julie Tesch will be talking with Lucas and Alise Sjostrum, the owners of Redhead Creamery in Brooten, Minnesota, about their dream of cheese, how they got started in cheesemaking, how they’re navigating the Covid-19 shutdown and why just because Wisconsin makes a lot of cheese doesn’t mean they necessarily know cheese. The post Ep 6: Alise and Lucas Sjostrom - Artisan cheese in the center of everywhere first appeared on Center for Rural Policy and Development.
We’ve extolled the virtues of behavior skills training (BST) nearly weekly on this show. But, can you believe, we’ve never actually done a full episode on this effective, research-based training intervention? Well, we decided to fix that oversight by digging into what components actually make BST so darn great. Plus, we finally review the oft-mentioned, never discussed Himle et al. article on gun safety. We sure know how to have a good time! Articles discussed this episode: Himle, M.B., Miltenberger, R.G., Flessner, C., & Gatheridge, B. (2004). Teaching safety skills to children to prevent gun play. Frolunda GM Freddy Sjostrom on what it would mean to them if Daniel Alfredsson was elected to HHOF, NHL draft prospects Lucas Raymond and Alexander Holtz and stats in Swedish league don't tell the whole story.
This week on the podcast we're with Alise Sjostrom of Redhead Creamery in Brooten, Minnesota (pop. 743) where you will find ridiculously good, farmstead artisan cheese, made by Alise herself. After working out of state for other cheesemakers, Alise brought what she learned back to her family dairy farm and started Redhead Creamery — something that has been her dream since she was 16. She's sharing about the cheesemaking process, the agritourism part of the farm that includes tours, dinners, and an on-the-farm shop, and how some temporary changes for COVID have been so successful that they will now become a permanent part of the way they do business. Plus, the cows mooing in the background and will make you feel like you're right there on the farm during this interview!Check out more on the blog.SHOW NOTES:Grafton Village Cheese CompanyCrave Brothers Farmstead CheeseAmerican Cheese SocietyBrooten, MinnesotaSauk Centre, MinnesotaFacebook: /redheadcreameryInstagram: @redheadcreamerywww.redheadcreamery.com

From Michael Tapper, 1001 Movies you Must See Before You Die: "The Phantom Carriage not only cemented the fame of director-screenwriter-actor Victor Sjostrom and Swedish silent cinema, but also had a well-documented, artistic influence on many great directors and producers. The best-known element of the film is the representation of the spiritual world as a tormented limbo between heaven and earth. The scene in which the protagonist - the hateful and self-destructive alcoholic David Holm (Sjostrom) - wakes up at the chime of midnight on New Year's Eve only to stare at his own corpse, knowing that he is condemned to hell, is one of the most quoted scenes in cinema history. "Made in a simple but time-consuming and methodically staged series of double exposures, the filmmaker, his photographer, and a lab manager created a three-dimensional illusion of a ghostly world that went beyond anything previously seen at the cinema. More important, perhaps, was the film's complex but readily accessible narration via a series of flashbacks - and even flashbacks within flashbacks - that elevated this gritty tale of poverty and degradation to poetic excellence. "Looking back at Sjostrom's career, The Phantom Carriage is a theological and philosophical extension of the social themes introduced in his controversial breakthrough Ingeborg Holm (1913). Both films depict the step-by-step destruction of human dignity in a cold and heartless society, driving its victims into brutality and insanity. The connection is stressed by the presence of Hilda Borgstrom, unforgettable as Ingeborg Holm and now in the role of the tortured wife - another desperate Mrs. Holm. She is yet again playing a compassionate but poor mother on her way to suicide or a life in the mental asylum. "The religious naivete at the heart of Selma Lagerlof's faithfully adapted novel might draw occasional laughter from a secular audience some eighty years later, but the subdued, 'realist' acting and the dark fate of the main characters - which almost comes to its logical conclusion, save for a melodramatic finale - never fails to impress." Conversation 61: The Story, Journey and Passion of Lucas Sjostrom “Our farmers are the experts. Every farm is different, we have the biggest and the smallest farms, every kind of operation you can imagine and we all are pulling the same weight. We are actually happy to celebrate our differences. For people who have never been to a farm before or never talked to a farmer before, they might assume all farming is this way and they do it like this but there are different soils, climates, even different breeds of cows that leads farmers to manage things in different ways, which I think is great. There is no one way of farming that is better or worse. ” - Lucas Sjostrom Today’s conversation is with Lucas Sjostrom, a farmer and passionate professional working for Minnesota dairy farmers Last September I was fortunate to attend a RDN Farm Tour Summit hosted by Midwest Dairy and the National Pork Board in Minneapolis, MN. I was very excited because I had the opportunity to tour both dairy and pork farms to learn more about farming practices in the midwest. Part of the tour took me to Sjostrom Farms, a dairy farm in Lafayette, MN where I met Steve and his son Lucas. Not only is Lucas a Lucas is a son, a brother, a husband, a father, a part-time farmer, the Industry Relations Director for Midwest Dairy, the Executive Director of the Minnesota Milk Producers Association, and last but not least a tour guide at Redhead Creamery, which his wife is the President and CEO. In 1922, to coincide with its 75th birthday, the Chicago Tribune set out to endow the city with ‘the world’s most beautiful office building’. The results of the design competition have been seen in retrospect less as ‘the ultimate in civic expression’ than as an expression of aesthetic and theoretical crisis within architecture. Hugely varied, bizarre, ingenious and occasionally grotesque, the entries provide a window into a discipline in transformation, as well as into the politics of a new American metropolis. Apologies for some slight issues with the sound. A book showing all the competition entries has been uploaded to Monoskop — if you download it you will be able to see what we’re talking about… https://monoskop.org/File:TribuneTowerCompetitionvol1_1980.pdfWe discuss the entries by John Mead Howells & Raymond Hood (plate 1) Eliel Saarinen (13) Holabird & Roche (20) John Wynkoop (90) Ross & Sloan (84) Hornbostel & Wood (91) Daniel Burnham (44) Jarvis Hunt (118) William Drummond (134) Sjostrom & Eklund (190)Music includes — Arthur Fields ‘How Ya Gonna Keep Em Down on the Farm After They’ve Seen Paree?’ Jockers Dance Orchestra ‘The Royal Vagabond’ The Columbians ‘Just Like a Rainbow’ Victor Dance Orchestra ‘The Great One Step’ …all from the Free Music Archive and first heard on the excellent Antique Phonograph Music ProgramThis podcast is powered by Pinecast.
A perfect start to Gigueres reign of terror! Last week Burke made many significant trades and the Leafs beat the Devils 3-0. Lou Lamoriello said that whatever Burke could do he could do better so he went out and got the star of Atlanta, Kovalchuk! In your face Brian Burke! So the boys talk that and the Oli Jokinen trade. Who said there were no trades in the post lockout era? Chris speculates that next year Ilya is K.H.L bound next year, if that's the case, we don't want you in our N.H.L Ilya, get the hell out of here! We also discuss the firing of Ken Hitchcocky. Speaking of cocky we also talk about Phaneuf's attitude in the dressing room and the new greatest line on the Leafs...Kulemin, Sjostrom and everyone's favourite Leaf, Wallin. Mike Komisarek is out for the rest of the season with shoulder surgery. Finally we end the show with a solid solution to the problems in Haiti and the sad news that Wayne got Wayne's Word right and the Leafs blew a 3-1 lead in the last minute of the game vs. the Devils.
