The fashion industry would love for you to believe that being stylish is about buying all the new fashion trends. The pressure to own the latest and greatest. Making you feel like the wonderful wardrobe pieces you have worked hard to earn and love to wear are no longer relevant. Or how about this gem... Wear whatever you love. Like, if you spend enough money on the clothes you like to wear, you will somehow know how to wear them and create beautiful outfits. That is a lie. It doesn't matter if you have the wallet of the King of England, you can't buy style. Money and buying more clothes isn't your problem. It's knowing what to do with the clothes you have bought is what style is all about. That is why I am answering the questions on the podcast today: How can you dress casual and look expensive? Style is Not About Price Tags Style is about how you wear the clothes you love for your body type in the right colors. That is why I always start with color and body type dressing. Quality Over Quantity Investing in a few high-quality pieces that are versatile, comfortable, and fit well can elevate your wardrobe significantly. These key items can be styled in numerous ways, creating a plethora of outfits without needing to constantly buy new clothes. Accessorize Wisely Accessories are your best friend! A simple outfit can be transformed with the right accessories. Belts, scarves, jewelry, and even hats can add that extra oomph to your attire, making it look more polished and put-together. And the best part? You can find stunning accessories at every price point. Thrifting and Upcycling Don't underestimate the power of thrift stores and vintage shops. They are treasure troves of unique pieces that can add character and flair to your wardrobe. Plus, upcycling — the practice of transforming existing pieces into something new — is not only budget-friendly but also environmentally conscious. It's 2024. It's time to erase these outdated myths that are keeping you from feeling stylish For more insights and practical tips on mastering the art of looking expensive yet casual — especially as a realtor braving the warm weather — tune in to this week's podcast episode. We'll deep-dive into how you can put items together that exudes sophistication without emptying your wallet. Your style should be a reflection of who you are, and remember, confidence is your best accessory. Here's to looking fabulous and feeling great, no matter the budget! Also, it's been quiet over on the podcast because I am in the process of rebranding the podcast from the Midlife Style School to Realtor Style School. This is the last of the Midlife Style School podcasts that I have recorded before the rebranding. Take note, I already updated the podcast name. This girl doesn't delay once she makes a decision. Come and join the conversation with the amazing Janette Miller, Stylist, Style Coach and TV Presenter! Join us as we go on a fascinating journey from her childhood, growing up working with her bespoke tailor father in the prestigious Savile Row! Being heavily influenced by her father's sense of style, Janette was always smartly turned out, however underneath her polished exterior was a girl who was painfully shy and introverted. Janette talks me through the wanting to remain behind the scenes, often dreading the interaction between customers and herself. After college she ventured into different industries from retail to British Airways, again wanting to remain slightly behind the scenes rather than being customer facing. When her son was due to start school, Janette knew she needed a change and to be closer to home and fell upon an advert for a position in property management. Working her way up, Janette even started her own successful property management company, however it became clear to her that there was something lacking, that spark of joy that she longed for and the chance to put her creativity and passion to good use! She explored the online world, began connecting with women in business and was bouyant with the desire to help others! Janette then decided that she wanted to help build people's confidence and build a legacy to be remembered for. Launching her Style Coaching business shortly afterwards, Janette began a new period in her life. We chat about her own style journey, from wearing relatively muted colours, in keeping with her not wanting to be the centre of attention. It was only when she started to learn about colours and how they work for you that she began her own transformational journey and began to transform the lives of her clients! Janette started to live her life by her own mantra "If not now, when?" and encouraged her clients to do the same! We talk about the wide range of services she offers, from Colour Analysis to Personal Shopping Days (which I have to say sound INCREDIBLE!!!) and her underpinning passion to empower women through their style. Janette has such a warmth and positivity about her, her energy is infectious! And energy is something she feels strongly about, often linking what she wears with how her energy levels are at the time which I found so fascinating! What an amazing lady with an amazing story! If you want to find out more about her transformational work, head on over to the links below! ⬇️ https://www.janettedmiller.com or on Instagram @janettedmiller
I had the pleasure of talking with actor and actor career coach Talia Thiesfield and these are some of my takeaways. Pivots are both internal and external and can be big or small but either way trust your own path. Next, once you've learned how to learn the lesson in a pivot you can then carry over lessons from pivot to pivot and set boundaries. You don't have to go back to something that you pivoted to before just because you find yourself needing to change again. Set your boundaries. Last but not least, be in gratitude as much as you can. Pivoting is expanding and look at it this way you survived the last pivot you made and you're here for another pivot to happen. Talia is a full-time actor, voiceover artist, and talent & career coach. She currently appears as recurring character NYPD Rep Maya on FBI (CBS), and has guest starred on various television shows including Succession & Veep (HBO), Limitless & Kevin Can Wait (CBS), and Suspscion (Apple TV+). I am also an alum of the NBC Diversity Showcase. She stars in the award-winning film Inez & Doug & Kira, wherein she played the title role of Kira opposite Michael Chernus and Tawny Cypress. Additionally, her voice can be heard in multiple vocal modalities for various commercials, video games, and animated projects including a three-season run as “B” in DreamWork's Trollstopia. A lover of new works, She has originated and helped develop a number of roles for Off Broadway and regional houses. These include the world premieres of Ring Twice For Miranda at NY City Center off-Broadway (Anouk), How To Break at Seattle's renowned Village Theater (Dr. Aden), Windfall at Bay Street Theater directed by Jason Alexander (Jaqueline Vanderbilt), and Cleopatra: The Pop Experience at Theater for the New City (Cleopatra). She is currently nominated for a Heilman & Haver Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical (How To Break at Village Theater). Previously, she received a Broadway World Regional Award for my performance as Daniela in In The Heights (Dallas Theater Center) and I am a Connecticut Critics Circle nominee, having earned a nod for Best Actress in a Musical for my portrayal of Aldonza in Man of La Mancha (Ivoryton Theater). As a coach, educator, and consultant she's been a guest lecturer at Columbia University, Rutgers University (Mason Gross School of the Arts), Montclair State University, The University of Connecticut, The No Marking Society (founded by Kate Lumpkin, CSA), and The Broadway Collective. She is the founder of The Act of Style Coaching which has gained wide popularity and the respect and collaboration of industry professionals nationwide on Instagram. She uses her own trademarked method to provide acting, branding, and career coaching that combines business savvy with craft in empowering actors to feel more confidence, pride, and authenticity in their work. Invest in high-quality pieces like a tailored blazer and trousers or skirts that flatter your body type. These timemidlifeless items will help you look put together while allowing you to feel comfortable all day long. You can also add an element of personality with printed scarves and statement jewelry [e.g., a long pendant necklace or a bold cuff]. Casual Wear: When you're off the clock but still have places to go, invest in well-fitting denim pieces like bootcut jeans or chic trousers, plus quality basics like t-shirts and sweaters. Look for interesting details such as side stripes, embroidery work, or embellishments for added personality. Accessorizing: Accessorizing is a great way to take any look up a notch without overwhelming yourself with choices. Choose one statement piece such as a bright bag or colorful statement earrings that won't take too much time to pair with the rest of your outfit each morning. Remember the power of neutrals – they can make any accessory “go” with most wardrobes! Hair Care: Having good hair days is essential when it comes to looking polished at work. Invest in quality products meant specifically for your hair type [e.g., Frizz Ease Extra Strength Formula Deep Treatment] and find simple styles that complement your face shape [e.g., high ponytails for round faces]. This will save you time spent styling in the morning (and time spent dealing with bad hair days!) Join the Midlife Style School: This is a transformation from the inside out. Learn why it is essential for women of all ages to seek out professional help in order to develop the skills needed to dress with confidence. Today we are diving into a topic that needs to be discussed: Why is it that seeking help to navigate through life seems to be taboo after graduating from high school or college? Let me set the stage for you. When we were younger, we had teachers and coaches to guide us, teach us, and help us develop the skills and knowledge we needed to succeed. But once we finished college, it seems we are on our own. We are expected to be experts in everything from cooking to fashion, to even adulting as a whole. And let's be honest, just because we get dressed every day doesn't mean we know how to create outfits that are best for us. But we think we should know, we think there's something wrong with us when we don't. But let's shift that mindset, shall we? Fashion is an art, just like cooking, painting, and architecture - it takes time to develop the skills and knowledge to truly master it. Even doctors practice medicine with the skills they learned at school, and let's not forget, we were taught how to put our arm through clothes, use snaps and buttons, but not how to style ourselves. We all have to eat every day, and preparing meals for ourselves and others is an essential part of life. But have you ever considered that cooking is also an art? It requires a deep understanding of ingredients, techniques, and flavors. So why is seeking the help of a chef or cooking classes seen as a weakness, when it is really an investment in developing a valuable skill set? The same goes for fashion and style. We should not feel ashamed or embarrassed to seek the help of professionals, or even friends who have a natural flair for fashion. Don't limit yourself to a limited view of what style is, and instead, let yourself be open to new methods of expression and creativity. So let's end this podcast with a reminder: it's okay to ask for help, it's okay to not know everything, and it's okay to invest in yourself at any age. Life is too short to not indulge in the things that bring us joy and help us express ourselves fully. Keep slaying, my midlife ladies, and stay stylish!
Midlife Style School: Join Here For many people, the notion of body typing has been a useful tool in understanding how to best dress their bodies. Unfortunately, it can also be limiting and even damaging if taken too literally. In this podcast, we will discuss why body typing doesn't work—and why your body is not the shape of a geometric shape or the shape of a fruit! First, let's look at what body typing is: it's the idea that certain physical characteristics—such as height, weight, and body shape—can be used to determine which types of clothing styles might look best on someone. This can be helpful for finding an overall sense of style that works for you. However, it's important to remember that everyone is different and there isn't one type of clothing that looks good on all body shapes. When it comes to choosing clothes based on your unique body type, one size does not fit all. For example, some women may have an hourglass figure with curves in the right places while others may have a more athletic build with broader shoulders or muscular legs. Each woman should take her individual features into account when selecting clothing that complements her shape and makes her feel confident. Finally, never forget to consider your lifestyle when shopping for clothes; do you need comfortable clothing for running errands? Business professional attire for work? Or something more glamorous for special occasions? Knowing what activities you need clothing for will help guide your choices so you don't have to rely solely on body typing rules. At the end of the day, wearing clothing that fits your unique features can help make sure you look and feel your best! Body typing does offer helpful suggestions about what kind of styles may work well for certain figures but try not to restrict yourself by sticking strictly to these generalizations – remember: no two bodies are alike! This month in the Midlife Style School, we are diving into our beliefs about money. Our beliefs are controlling our feelings and relationship of how we spend and save money. Do you ever look around and think, "How do wealthy women manage to always look so amazing?" Well, I have some good news for you, it isn't a secret. In fact, after working with hundreds of midlife women who wanted to feel like high profile millionaires in their lives and professions, it got me thinking about the different techniques they used to get there. And guess what? Now I'm here to share those same tips that can make anyone feel more like an A-Lister! So, if you've been searching how to look ultra chic and polished at any age - then this podcast is definitely for you. I'm sharing 9 ways you can change how you think about money and create the feelings of being wealthy now. I encourage you to pick one or two today and start improving your relationship with money. 1. Find your sense of style: Clothing is a big part of how we present ourselves to the world, and feeling like a wealthy woman means having a style that makes you feel confident and powerful. If you're not sure where to start, try looking for inspiration from well-dressed women in magazines, movies, or even real life. Once you've found some styles you like, invest in a few key pieces that will make you feel like a million bucks every time you put them on. 2. Invest in your home: A comfortable and stylish home is another important part of feeling like a wealthy woman. If your budget allows, splurge on items that will make your home more beautiful and inviting, such as luxurious bedding, artworks, or designer furniture. Even if you can't afford to go all-out, small changes like adding fresh flowers or scented candles can make a big difference in how your home feels. 3. Take care of your appearance: Whether it's getting regular haircuts and manicures or investing in good skincare products, taking care of your appearance is important for feeling wealthy. It's also worth noting that first impressions matter—so if you're meeting someone for business or pleasure, make sure you look your best. 4. Develop a taste for the finer things: From gourmet food and wine to high-end fashion and travel, there are many aspects of a wealthy lifestyle that revolve around enjoying the finer things in life. If you want to feel like a wealthy woman, start by treating yourself to occasional indulgences—you deserve it! 5. Be generous: One of the best ways to feel like a wealthy woman is to give back to others less fortunate than yourself. Whether you volunteer your time at a local nonprofit or simply donate money to causes you care about, giving back will make you feel good about yourself—and it's also one of the most philanthropic things you can do. 6. Pamper yourself: In addition to taking care of your appearance, it's important to pamper yourself on a regular basis—after all, wealthy women know how to treat themselves right! Whether it's getting massages or facials on a regular basis or simply taking some time out for yourself each day to relax and rejuvenate, making sure you take care of yourself both physically and mentally is key to feeling like a wealthy woman. 7. Live below your means: One common trait among wealthy people is that they live below their means—in other words, they don't spend all of their money on unnecessary luxuries but instead save and invest it wisely. If you want to feel like a wealthy woman, follow suit by evaluating your spending habits and looking for ways to cut back on unnecessary expenses. You may be surprised at how much money you can save by making small changes to your spending habits! 8. Invest in experiences: Instead of spending your money on material possessions, invest in experiences that will enrich your life—such as travel, learning new skills, or attending cultural events. These types of experiences are often more rewarding than simply buying things, and they'll help you create lasting memories that are far more valuable than any material item. 9. surround yourself with positive people: Wealthy people tend to surround themselves with other positive, successful people—so if you want to feel like a wealthy woman, make an effort to do the same. Spend time with friends who support and inspire you, join groups or organizations where successful women congregate, and attend events where you can meet other like-minded individuals. By surrounding yourself with positive role models, you'll naturally start thinking and behaving like them—which will only help increase your own wealth over time! In our 50th episode, Jennifer talks to Talia Thiesfield about artists bringing themselves fully to their work instead of trying to fit into some expectation or box. They unpack the phrases “branding” & “type” (spoiler: it's actually embracing all the things that make you, YOU!), what it means to identify parts of yourself and cultivate ways for you to show up fully. They share practices on how to look inwards, the importance of walking in gratitude, and approaching opportunities with more fun and enjoyment. Plus, they share about self-trust, being proud of what you do, and having patience with the process and with ourselves. About Talia: After years of trying to fit into plain brown boxes, wasting time and money on ineffective training, feeling entirely misunderstood by casting and agents – Talia Thiesfield said “Beyonce take the wheel!” She created The Act of Style Coaching and the Archetype Shade Method in 2014 when she realized she needed to stop trying to “fit the breakdowns” and focus on bringing herself to the roles. Traditional training fails to emphasize the importance of tapping into our own individuality and strengths. Our DOPENESS. The Act of Style Coaching provides acting, branding, and career coaching that illuminates a more specific industry identity and sense of self. Talia is a full-time actor working on stage, screen, and in VO. And as a coach, she helps other actors feel confident, seen, and empowered in their work and careers through the free information she provides daily on Instagram as well as through private coaching, workshops, and university lectures at institutions such as Columbia University, Rutgers University, Montclair State University, and the University of CT. Do you see yourself as a VIP....a very important person? There is nothing that you can wear that will make you a VIP. Reading books, your education or job, doesn't create VIPs. The only way for you to become a VIP is to SEE yourself as one. It comes from within you. I went to a 3-day coaching event with my life coach, Brooke Castillo, and I absolutely loved it. (Yes, coaches need coaches) There was three different types of tickets we could buy to attend the event. 1. A virtual ticket (I don't know how much these were) 2. General Admission tickets $197 3. A VIP ticket $1997 I could've got into the same room for $197 but I chose the VIP tickets. Why? Because I wanted to be treated as a VIP. I wanted extra time with Brooke. I wanted the good food, and I wasn't disappointed But, even more than that... I wanted to surround myself with people who saw themselves as VIPs. I met some amazing women and the experience I received was priceless. They reminded me of the women inside ELEVATE and my VIP clients that have made the decision to invest in themselves. I have two questions I want you to ask yourself: What experiences have you grown from because you saw yourself as a VIP? What experiences have you passed on because you didn't see yourself as a VIP? Anytime I have the opportunity, I choose to see myself as a VIP. Fashionably, Afton

Sorry about the sound! This is a laser-coaching excerpt from a meetup on 4/24/2022. This is such a good example of executing the process of ACTUALLY putting Law of Attraction into action. You hear me talk about it... but this an example of this in action. This is executing the process: 1. Know what your current story is 2. Understand that your current story, even though it's true, has an energy that is not serving you, In fact the energy of your true story is manifesting more of what you do not want. 3. Gently re-write this story into a better feeling and believable "true" story that shifts your energy I have talked with this person since this session and in less than 2 weeks amazing things have already started manifesting. She is shocked how quickly a situation that seems stuck can change.

The Punch Drunk Soul Podcast - Soul Alignment + Business Chats
We've got another amazing Ashley today on the show - Ashley Capps. Ashley is a Style Coach and the Founder of AC.Styles, a personal styling business designed to help people create a wardrobe that brings them joy and confidence in their daily lives. She has styled over 1k people all over the US and is passionate about helping clients find the right styles, fit, and brands that are not only flattering but also bring out their personality. I'm pumped to bring you this interview because Ashley was someone who sat on the sidelines for FAR too long, dreaming of starting her own business but never feeling quite qualified enough or good enough to do it. She was nervous about taking that leap out on her own, like SO many other aspiring entrepreneurs out there. Is this you right now? Waiting to feel ready before you start your own coaching business? If this sounds like you, you're waiting to be more experienced or knowledgeable then I have news for you - this time will NEVER come! You're never going to feel “READY” to start your business! Being ready is a myth, perfectionism is a myth. There is no such thing. You just have to get out there and TRY something which is exactly what Ashley did. She called up a few friends and tested out her company idea on them as what we like to call “beta clients” - something I teach inside our program Path to Freedom Coach Accelerator. Putting out a minimum viable product to test the market and do some research before pouring your heart, soul, and months of time into a program that no one wants. I love Ashley's tips in this episode for how she got over her fears, how she created her program (step by step with her first clients), how she made networking her top priority when starting her business and so much more. She really just started with what she knew and then learned what she didn't know along the way, which is exactly what you need to do if you want to start your own coaching business. Also on this episode, we talk about the top THREE priorities you should be focused on in the beginning stage of your business and (hint) your branding, photography and imagery is NOT one of those things. Don't try to make your business look “pretty” and “polished” from the beginning. Don't wast your time on things that FEEL productive but aren't actually moving you forward and creating income and impact. If you want some help with the tasks you should prioritize along with the tasks you need to STOP doing immediately if you want to start and grow your own coaching business fast - then shoot me an email at Ali@punchdrunksoul.com and put “COACH NOW” in the copy and I will follow up with my quickstart guide for coaches. This guide book and workbook is for you if you're struggling to see progress with your coaching business and you want to get more efficient with the time you're putting into your business so you can actually see results fast. So shoot me that email at ali@punchdrunksoul.com and I will send you our free “How to start a profitable coaching business without prior experience or certifications” guidebook. You don't want to miss out on this if you have it! Ok, let's get into this interview! If you enjoy this episode I'd love for you to let us know by sharing it on your Instagram stories and tagging us! I'm @punchdrunksoul and Ashlee is @ac-styless . OK let's get into this interview... Aha Moments: How Ashley got over her fears of judgement and failure so she could start her own coaching business What it took for Ashley to find her first clients and test out her business idea What it means to have a North Star in your business and life and why it's critical The top THREE priorities you should be focused on when you're starting your own coaching business How Ashley overcame burnout from working too hard in her business in the beginning Why you need to stick with ONE marketing strategy at a time when starting your coaching business Links: Instagram: Instagram.com/ac-styless Website: http://www.ac-styles.com/ Path to Freedom Coach Accelerator: Punchdrunksoul.com/pathtofreedom
