DIE ANOTHER DAY - pre-title sequence decoded! We know that Tom hates DIE ANOTHER DAY, but strangely, he has some kind things to say about this pre-title sequence. Hint: Tom likes hovercraft, surfing, and flamethrowers.  Interestingly, Dan has more negative thoughts in this episode than Tom does, and he doesn't hate the movie. Take a listen as they decode this very different pre-title sequence! What makes this pre-title to DIE ANOTHER DAY unique?  Is it better than the movie itself?  Is James Bond really Bond-like here?  Does size matter?  Could James Bond have been less prepared for this mission?  What do those Korean words on the signs mean? What tie-in does Tom find with Stanley Kubrick's movie 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY? What other movies have had hovercraft chases? Also, find out the Bond-esque nickname for the big wave surfing area called Pe'ahi, on Maui, Hawaii, where they filmed the opening surfing scene. So, have a listen and you'll “Be in the Know.,” as we hover over some of the landmines in this different pre-title sequence! Episode Notes When we recount the stoning of Stephen and his death as the first martyr, we think on his great sacrifice for what he believed. But even more importantly, perhaps, we should ask about his famous last words where he explains what his faith really was. Was he dying for a new religion invented by Jesus in the first century? Or was he a part of something that started in the garden - handed down to Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Moses - fulfilled by Jesus? Perhaps Stephen's faith was more ancient than new. More Hebrew than many would like to admit. First Century Christianity wasn't another new religious invention, but considered a sect within Judaism in the first century. And even though deep separations exists today between Christianity & Judaism, it wasn't always that way. But if we considered our Messiah truly Hebrew, as Stephen did and died for, what would that change in how we lived out our faith? For many believers, it would radically change their faith into something more real, deep, authentic and satisfying as they return to worship in Spirit & Truth to walk as Yeshua walked. 00:00 Title Sequence 0:41 Intro: What will we be talking about? 3:21 The First Deacons Are Chosen 11:35 God Used Non-Apostles in Power 17:15 Stephen's Journey Begins: False Witnesses Raised 20:12 Christianity: A New Religion? 23:57 Resisting the Holy Spirit 38:05 Stephen's Murderers Expose Themselves 45:20 Stephen's Treatment Towards His Enemies 51:18 Does How Things Go With Us Define Us Before God? Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse developed a new approach to computer animation so as to translate the comic-book experience for the big screen. Academy voters took notice and awarded the film an Oscar for Best Animated Feature. One of the last things that moviegoers see before leaving the film is the hyperkinetic title sequence animated by visual studio Alma Mater. The sequence was featured at SXSW 2019 in a compilation of compelling title sequences, and it made enough of an impression that it won SXSW's jury-awarded Excellence in Title Design accolade. As part of my festival coverage of SXSW 2019, I sat down with title sequence co-director James Ramirez to learn more about what went into making the sequence. Some of the things we discuss include The different styles of animation that went into the sequence and how they put it together in Cinema 4D How they worked with the filmmakers behind Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse to supplement the ideas and characters of the film The way they implemented the half-tone look What filmmakers should keep in mind when planning for a title sequence # Related Episode To hear more about how vintage animation styles have influenced computer animation, check out this interview with Limbert Fabian and Brandon Oldenburg, Oscar-winning directors from Moonbot Studios, in Shreveport, Louisiana. # Sponsor for this Episode nsavides productions – I make videos and tell stories. James gave a shout out to the Deadpool 2 title sequence. Imaginary Forces, one of the agencies whose work James admires, worked on titles for Stranger Things and Mad Men. Jack Kirby, an early Spider-Man artist, provided design inspiration for both the film and title sequence of Into the Spider-Verse.  While we didn't get to discuss this in the interview, James also did some motion graphics work on Stranger Than Fiction, a film that has been a big inspiration for me. My interview with Stranger Than Fiction's producer Lindsay Doran is over here. Shortcut for the podcast: nicksav.show Additional music for the show provided by Rob Costlow. Welcome to brand new episode of Audiogyan Case studies, a series that I have started recently. Today I have Aniruddh Mehta with us on Audiogyan. The designer behind Sacred Games Title Sequence.  A designer inspired by basic shapes in nature and simple mathematical and design rules. He is the founder of Studio Bigfat, an independent Design Studio based out of Mumbai. Aniruddh has been playing along with shapes and creating digital artwork for quite some time now. Today we are here to discuss a case study of Sacred Games title sequence for which Aniruddha has been instrumental. Questions 1. What was the brief like? Did you have to read any scriptures to do a background study? 2. What was your process of coming up with the first draft? Why did you chose to go about minimal art as oppose to traditional ethnic Indian art? 3. How did you manage to keep all the chapter artworks of the same family? All of them seem to be in a circular pattern with more of less same negative space yet varying degree of complexity. What were the major challenges while doing so? 4. Since all the artworks are with thin lines and intricate shapes, were there any constraints of the medium, for eg, smaller devices and big screen TVs etc... 5. The complexity of each artwork for various chapters keep increasing as you go along from 1st to 8th, except for Episode 6: Pretakalpa. Was it intentional? What was that process like? 6. Which typeface have you used? Was it custom and how did you mange to pick that? What are the nuances of the character that help you pick this typeface over other? 7. What was it like working with the team (Varun, Aditya and Anurag)? 8. Your favourite among the 8 episodes? Why? 9. After doing these artworks what was your role during post-production. The shim, the movement, the animation etc… Were you part of that process? How was it like? 10. What was your biggest learning while working on this project? Will you be working on any artwork for Sacred Games part 2? If people have to follow your work, collaborate or simply connect, what is the best way?

Supercontext: an autopsy of media

This movie had a tumultuous production, with constant fighting between writer Paddy Chayefsky and director Ken Russell. We discuss how their conflict influenced the end product... and the studios paying their bills. We also wonder if this movie unintentionally captures what we now refer to as toxic masculinity. Our guest today is Jack Cole. You may have not heard of him but trust me, you've seen his work. Jack is best known for the Six Million Dollar Man title sequence that opens the show. He has also designed sequences for great shows like the Rockford Files, Ellery Queen, Ironside, Bionic Woman and a host of others. Whats unique about his work is how he told the story of the show through his design of these title sequences. It was 1974 when he created the Six Million Dollar Man sequence. Lets put that into perspective for some of you youngsters - Steve Jobs was 19 and Apple wasnt even a thought until 1976, so personal computers didn't exist. That didn't stop Jacks creative juices to craft sequences that were rich in story and imagery. Six Million dollar man had several layers throughout the entire 2 minute sequence. So get ready design geeks, this ones gonna be special! Here is our conversation with designer Jack Cole. With Kirsty Lang. Skyfall, the highest-grossing Bond film of all time, is about to appear on DVD. Daniel Kleinman, the designer of the dark opening title sequence with Bond underwater after being shot in the chest, discusses his vision for the classic ingredient of every Bond film, originally established by the late Maurice Binder. Richard Crompton is a new name in crime fiction. Nairobi, where he lives, provides his location, and his first novel, The Honey Guide, introduces us to his protagonist Mollel, a former Maasai warrior-turned-police detective. He reflects on his approach to writing about crime in Kenya. Becoming Picasso is a new exhibition at the Courtauld Gallery in London. Its focus is 1901, seen as the painter's breakthrough year, when at the age of just 19 he created the work that formed his first Paris exhibition. Becoming Picasso charts the momentous year and shows the start of many of the themes he developed later in his long career. Art critic Sarah Kent reviews. The way we watch television is changing forever, as programmes are now being shown on-line before they reach TV screens and sales of DVDs are dwindling as downloads are on the rise. And this has an effect on how and where we watch films and programmes, as the television in the lounge is slowly being usurped by the computer in the bedroom. Naomi Alderman considers the pleasures and dangers of our new bedtime habits.
