It's been a wild few months in CPUs, with next-generation releases from both AMD and Intel in their respective Zen 5 and Arrow Lake categories. Now that most all the big parts are out, we break down what's what, including why everyone is finally going disaggregated (and what that means), what's going on with OS updates to make your processor run faster, which one to get if you just want to play games, what the new CU-DIMM standard means for RAM, and more. Virtual productions allow filmmakers, cinematographers, directors, producers and creatives to shoot in-camera VFX using LED technology whilst exploring the technological landscape that's revolutionising the visual effects industry. It combines both physical and virtual film-making techniques, so visual effects can be shot on-camera instead of edited in during post-production. Recently, a former power station at 25 Pasir Panjang Road, has been given new life as a pioneering studio called X3D studio, the largest facility of its type in South-east Asia that will employ the same virtual production technology used to create the immersive settings seen in visually arresting productions. Karen Seah, co-founder of X3D Studio tells us more about virtual productions and how it is changing the media and entertainment sector in Singapore. In Today's Show: 1) Clarification: The deadline for IRA contributions for 2020 is also extended to May 17, 2021. 2) Just don't forget those Q1 Estimated Tax Payments still due 4/15/2021; But Congress is asking the IRS to also extend this to May 17, 2021. 3) Key Senator says (D)s don't have the votes to increase the U.S. Corporate Tax rate to 28% 4) California AB 80 is still unresolved – Shame, Shame, Shame. 5) Is the U.S. government in DEFAULT for not paying refunds??? Ask around. 6) Proposed changes to the International Tax Framework. That is, they have beyond April 15, 2021 to make contributions for the 2020 tax year. There is no longer a maximum age for making IRA contributions. There are still income limitations and issues if you are covered by a retirement plan at work!! 2) Members of Congress request estimated tax deadline postponement (for the 2021, Q1 Estimated Tax Payment due April 15, 2021): https://www.journalofaccountancy.com/news/2021/apr/member-of-congress-request-estimated-tax-deadline-postponement.html?utm_source=mnl:cpald&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=02Apr2021 3) Joe Manchin Says Senate Democrats Do Not Have Votes to Raise Corporate Taxes to 28 Percent https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2021/04/05/joe-manchin-says-senate-democrats-do-not-have-votes-to-raise-corporate-taxes-to-28-percent/ Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) conveyed Monday there are not enough votes in the Senate to pass President Joe Biden's $2.25 trillion infrastructure proposal due to six or seven Democrats who oppose raising the corporate tax rate to 28 percent. “Senator Joe Manchin just said Democrats do not have the votes to pass the American Jobs Plan in the U.S. Senate. Manchin says he knows of 6 or 7 Democrats who agree hiking the corporate tax rate to 28% would put the country's competitiveness at risk,” according to a Fox Business reporter. If Manchin's vote count is accurate, it indicates Biden may have a tough time raising corporate taxes above the 25 percent rate … China charges American businesses. The United States' current corporate tax rate, set by former President Trump, stands at 21 percent.” You Decide whose right…I'm just telling you what they are saying…. 3) California AB 80 is STILL unresolved for PPP related deductions. The rate of interest paid on the portion of a corporate overpayment exceeding $10,000 will be 0.5 percent. Revenue Ruling 2021-06 will be in IRB: 2021-12, dated March 22, 2021. 4) Form 1099 NEC California Issues: We discovered the IRS is not forwarding the Forms 1099-NEC to most states…as it has for Forms 1099-MISC in past years. This is because the form is new and, oddly, the normal document sharing process between the I.R.S. and state tax authorities has not been established for this particular form. For California filing purposes, I have attached the link to California FTB 1099 info sheet for your reference. https://www.ftb.ca.gov/file/business/information-returns.html The 1099-NECs are due to California 2/28/21 per the attachment. Since that date is a Sunday, it is extended to Monday, 3/1/21. If you used a service to process your 1099s, please check with them to see if they can (or did) e-file the state copy for you. If you did them manually, you can mail the paper form. The address to file the paper forms is: Franchise Tax Board PO Box 942840 Sacramento, CA 94240-6090 As an additional option, GROCO does have an FTB Swift e-filing account. To use this, we will need to input your company information and details from your Tax Year 2020 IRS Form 1099s in our system before we can e-file them. Please let us know if you would like this option. If you are located in a different state and need assistance with that state's requirements, please contact us: Greenstein Rogoff Olsen & Co rcohen@groco.com 510-797-8661
Today’s conversation is a recreation of a South-by-Southwest Panel that didn’t happen this year because the conference was canceled. My guests are so passionate about their topic, we got the panel together to share with you here. This conversation was recorded the same week that SXSW was scheduled to happen in March. Here’s a bit from the show guide:From Childish Gambino’s augmented reality dancing to Marshmello’s Fortnite concert in virtual reality to the mixed reality experience of Tonandi, immersive and spatial computing is closing the gap between the real and the virtual when it comes to music and art. Listeners can experience music in new and more profound ways. Musicians can take advantage of this shift to reach and connect more deeply with broader audiences. Artists can create a lasting emotional connection by letting their fans be in the center of the experience. In the conversation, we explore new methods for listeners and artists to span realities with music. We talk about which experiences are getting traction, as well as where the technology shines, and where it still falls short. We expanded the topics a bit to incorporate a discussion about survival advice for startups. The four panelists include:Amy LaMeyer, who is the managing partner of WXR Fund, where she invests in early stage spatial computing and artificial intelligence companies with female leadership. She’s a lover of music, and the author of the “Sound and AR” chapter in the book Convergence: How the World Will Be Painted With Data. She’s also an advisor for immersive music-focused startups: TribeXR, Stage, and Melodrive.Eric Wagliardo is an internationally recognized artist and creative who resides in Brooklyn, NY and Dallas, TX. Eric has been working in XR for 4 years and recently collaborated with Childish Gambino to create an augmented reality musical experience. Eric is the founder and creative director of &Pull.Rebecca Barkin is the VP of Immersive Experiences at Magic Leap, where she served as Executive Producer of Tónandi—a visceral, interactive audio-visual experience made in partnership with the band Sigur Rós. More recently, she teamed up with HBO and Framestore for Game of Thrones "Dead Must Die," a mixed reality experience brought to AT&T retail and Tribeca Film Festival. In 2020, opportunity informed a new focus on delivering services and solutions that bridge the physical and digital divide, ultimately expanding the reach of premium XR installations beyond any singular venue. She began her career at EMI Music.Tony Parisi is a pioneer of virtual reality, a serial entrepreneur and an angel investor. About Allan K. Patch: Retired USN Captain Allan Patch grew up in Plymouth, Mass where he developed a fascination with the heritage of our nation. Adding sciences to his interest in history, Allan earned a BS in biology from Boston College and a DMD from Tufts University. He then spent over two decades in the Navy, deployed in both Navy hospitals and in active duty with the Marine Corps; and entered private dental practice while serving in the Naval Reserve. Allan Patch’s fast paced adventure novels bring history to life in the Apollo series. Passage At Delphi is the first novel in the series exploring the confluence of the past, present, and future with ordinary people tossed into extraordinary situations. Delphi’s Chosen continues the adventure...but now the characters are volunteers rather than victims. He invites readers along for the thrilling ride and explores the difference between heroism and celebrity in the context of past and present culture.
