Guess who's back, back again. Dr. Dovec is back - get settled in. You've been asking for her and we are here to deliver! We have another episode FULL of valuable information for the WLS community. We always love sitting down with Dr. Betsy Dovec, Bariatric Surgeon, and being blown away each time. Today is no exception. In this episode, we discuss all things related to sleep as bariatric patients. Dr. Dovec starts out putting us on the spot by asking how well we sleep (or in Kelly's case, don't sleep). She recaps the four pillars of health and wellbeing after WLS. She then goes into great detail about lack of sleep and how it can undo, or even reverse, all the hard work we put in as bariatric patients. She lays out some hard truths and facts to educate us on the importance of sleep and how it assists us with healing and weight loss. We all know a good night's sleep is essential, but how often do we heed the advice of professionals? Dr. D throws down a challenge for us to track our sleep and weight loss for one month and see if we have better results after making sleep a priority. Join us in the month of September for the #OSLPsleep Challenge. To help get you started, we've made a sleep tracker. Do waist trainers really work? Why is it so hard for me to lose weight? Find the answers to these questions and more in episode 98 of the Be More Today Show with special guest Dr. Duane Fredericks. An established bariatric surgeon, Dr. Fredericks has had extensive experience in providing surgical and non-surgical methods in medical weight loss. He is an ardent proponent of combining healthy lifestyle choices with the highest quality medical care to put a stop to the obesity epidemic, person by person. The doctor has helped hundreds of his surgical patients successfully lose significant weight, get their lives back and reduce their co-morbid conditions, like diabetes, hypertension and sleep apnea. Long-term weight loss through Standard of Care procedures is largely achieved by surgical interventions that effectively alter gut hormone levels that are responsible for hunger and satiety, thereby leading to a new hormonal weight set point. He has also observed that surgical interventions are only a tool for achieving successful weight loss and if that tool is not managed effectively – through education and appetite control solutions – even surgical interventions can lose their efficacy in the long term. For those patients that have experienced weight regain after weight loss surgery or those who are obese and looking for alternatives to weight loss surgical intervention, Dr Fredericks is seeing patients at his Omega Weight Loss Center, 228 South Orange Ave, South Orange, New Jersey. Dr. Fredericks graduated from Temple University School of Medicine and completed his residency at the Graduate/Temple University Hospital. He did a fellowship in bariatric surgery at New York University studying under renowned surgeons Dr. George Fielding and Dr. Christine Ren-Fielding with a particular focus on the adjustable gastric banding technique in bariatric surgery. He also worked directly for Allergan, the originators of the Lap-Band, and Ethicon, the originators of the Realize Band. Don't you know that the triggers we experience in childhood are factors blocking our weight loss? Medical studies show that whatever stress or emotional issues we deal with early on in life will become medical problems later in life. The mind and body will create a shield to shut out all the pain by eating them away with food. That's what often happens than what we care to know about. Do you want to mask it forever with false cures, or do you want that peace and freedom for the rest of your life? Dr. Franchell Hamilton's years of education started at the University of Houston Honors College, where she received her bachelor's degree in Psychology and Chemistry, summa cum laude. She further pursued her education in Lyon, France, where she completed graduate studies in biochemical engineering. It was not until the chance encounter with an orthopedic surgeon that Dr. Hamilton's future began to take shape. Upon hearing that Dr. Hamilton was unsure of what to do with her future, he encouraged her to pursue a career in medicine. In just this brief interaction with a stranger, a new path was formed. The impact of his words inspired Dr. Hamilton to also change the lives of those she meets through practicing medicine, and eventually, consulting. And so, she continued her education at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio to earn her doctorate in medicine. She then attended Eastern Virginia Medical School to complete her residency, and ultimately her fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. The bariatric surgeon she was studying under demonstrated the large impact weight loss alone can have on a person's health. This realization led her to refine the scope of her medical career by focusing on weight loss and wellness. After completing her bariatric fellowship in 2013, Dr. Hamilton did just that. She founded A Better Weigh Center – a place for her patients to receive treatments ranging from bariatric surgery and medical weight loss to hormone therapy. In this episode, Dr. Franchell shares how mindset is essential in any patient's weight loss journey as it impacts the way you deal with pain and stress. If your emotions are not stabilized and dealt with firsthand, you will always go back to how you used to be. You can have the surgery now, but the littlest of triggers will make you spiral back to food obsession if you don't feel safe in your thoughts and emotions. And the same problem keeps presenting itself with no permanent solution. There is a huge emotional factor after surgery. Relationships also play a big part in this. And when these things are all being addressed first, even that alone can help you lose weight. And Hypnosis is all about that mindset work – working on your emotional mastery, not just giving you a temporary solution but one of lasting transformation. "I always empower my patients as we can; if you want surgery, we have to go through this mindset stuff first. If you don't, and then who knows? At the end of four months, three months, you may not need surgery. So, I often leave it up to them. Amanda: Hello Everyone, Amanda here, Co-Founder and CEO of Bari Better, Inc. where we provide online Bariatric Coaching in English, Spanish and Portuguese and today I have the pleasure of interviewing Dr. Ricardo Lopez, a Bariatric Surgeon from Guatemala. My husband and I met Dr. Lopez in Dubai in a Conference titled International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity And Metabolic Disorders (IFSO), we have been in touch ever since and now he's one of our Board Advisor. Question to Dr. Lopez: As a Bariatric surgeon, what would you say if someone asks you What is Bariatric coaching? Dr. Ricardo Lopez: Coaching is a word that is often thought as sports-related, because coaching comes from somebody that teaches in order to take a team or an athlete to reach positive results. So, coaching is the term that has been used in order for somebody to help and guide a team or a person to succeed. There's a lot of aspects in a lot of topics when we have needed somebody to teach us what is the way, what is the best way to do it and what would you do if we fail or what we do if we need to get to this point of our lives to get to succeed at something in life, and that applies to Bariatric clients. Amanda: As a Bariatric surgeon, how do you see the importance of the online Bariatric Coaching? At Bari Better, Inc. we do not provide any medical advice, we help our clients achieve their goals, and to get from point A to point B Dr. Ricardo Lopez: Bariatric surgery is a long-lasting journey. People will always have questions, before, during the process and after surgery, even 5, 10 years after surgery. It is great to have a Bariatric Coach by your side during your process to help guide you to every step: before surgery, during recovery and after surgery. What a better way to do the Coaching with someone who has already been through the process themselves. Online Bariatric Coaching is the way to go as you will have questions many times and can get this support from any place, anywhere, anytime. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Dr. Spencer Holover is a Bariatric Surgeon out of New York City who is considered one of the top surgeons in the entire United States of America. He has won numerous awards including "New York's Favorite Physician", "Most compassionate Doctor in the country" and "Top Surgeons in the Country". His journey to the top almost never happened, and he sits with host Kurt Caceres to correlate and compare the symmetry between his struggles and that of every Actor in Hollywood. He was rejected from every medical school in the country and had no alternative but to attend St. George in Grenada, West Indies. Attending a foreign school made his chances of reaching the upper echelon in the medical community back in the U.S. close to impossible. But he overcame insurmountable odds, mixed with a bit of luck, and is now considered the top of his field. Motivational. Inspirational. His story is for anyone who's ever been told "you're not going to make it", for anyone who's ever wanted to quit. His story, is our story . https://www.provenanceroom.com/post/dr-spencer-holover
