A reading of "The Fungi From Yuggoth," by H.P. Lovecraft, first published in its entirety in _Beyond the Wall of Sleep_ by Arkham House in 1943, though published individually and sporadically in _Weird Tales_ and other magazines after they were completed on January 4th, 1930. It was first read by Tod on July 21, 2024.As this is a horror podcast, this episode might not be for everyone. Specifically, this sequence of sonnets deals with shoplifting, several ancient farmhouses, glimpses of alien worlds, madness, and some very scary tickle monsters. If such elements are likely to disturb or offend you, you are urged to skip this episode. On the other hand, if you'd like to dive into Lovecraft's poetry, we'll be discussing this sequence of sonnets, as well as other Lovecraftian nonsense live and in person, on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at 7:00pm at the historic Black Box Theater in downtown Providence, Rhode Island. Come join us, as audience participation will be encouraged, though not required. Sheila Johnson is known as the nation's first black female billionaire. She first rose to prominence as the co-founder of Black Entertainment Television, or BET. Since then, she has become a widely recognized business leader, a hotel mogul, and the co-owner of three professional sports teams. But, Johnson says, her triumphs masked deep trauma and pain that she carried for decades. That included fear and self-doubt, an emotionally abusive 33-year marriage, and a severe depression following her divorce. Johnson joined Diane in April at WAMU's Black Box Theater for a special in-person Diane Rehm Book Club Conversation. They talked about her memoir, “Walk Through Fire.”
Is that a Magic Wand in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me? Cuddle Party Facilitator and Intimacy Coach Scoby Goo feels like an outsider until she stumbles upon our little storytelling show, and its inclusive atmosphere changes everything for her. Obsessed, Scoby follows Bawdy from city to city, and becomes captivated with a Seattle magician and their tantalizing true tale of an orgy at a Magician's Conference. And Before you can say ‘Fortune favors the Brave', Scoby volunteers for their own kind of Hocus Pocus - and Abracadabra, Bawdy Gets You Laid! About our Storyteller: Scoby Goo dove into the worlds of kink and polyamory after attending a Bawdy Storytelling way back in 2014, following the show from San Francisco to LA to Seattle and then Chicago (and later, got onstage to share the stories created!). She now hosts communication and consent workshops, also known as Cuddle Parties, as a certified facilitator. While she can make kombucha (like her namesake: the Symbiotic Colony Of Bacteria and Yeast), she's more of an emotional fermentation process starter and she also offers intimacy coaching. What's next? – Complicitness and the Power of Imagination panel discussion took place in seminar complex complicities in Copenhagen on the 15th of November 2022. The future is tomorrow, in five years, in 50 years and in 500 years. It is constantly created by us collectively. Our imaginations shape potential futures, how far can we dream? Can we dream of an artfield that would be diverse and vibrant? Can we imagine futures that can be inclusive, diverse and joyous? In this conversation, panelists are invited to discuss dreams of possible and impossible futures, the freedom as well as the responsibility of artists as creators of narratives as well as the notion of hope. The seminar was part of Bridges, a project designed to strengthen sustainable and long-term Nordic collaboration in the realms of antiracist and intersectionally feminist practices. The project is funded by Nordic Culture Point and produced by UrbanApa in collaboration with HAUT, MDT, CODA and Black Box Theater. The panelists: Yong Sun Gullach, Vala T. Foltyn, Jupiter Child The moderator: Kai Merke

What is the relationship between an artist and a critic? The seminar was part of Bridges, a project designed to strengthen sustainable and long-term Nordic collaboration in the realms of antiracist and intersectionally feminist practices. The project is funded by Nordic Culture Point and produced by UrbanApa in collaboration with HAUT, MDT, CODA and Black Box Theater. Megan Arney Johnston, an independent curator and contemporary art enthusiast based in Stillwater, recommends a trip to Winona to see Water Stories: New Work by Anne Labovitz at the Minnesota Marine Art Museum. Johnston says Labovitz, who is based in St. Paul, goes to the “next level,” involving large-scale paintings and an even larger scale installation that evoke the essence and the importance of water. At the entrance, visitors see Labovitz's large scrolls responding to the Winona area and landscape. Subsequent rooms reveal a series of large abstract paintings, each a different hue, and using layers of paint to create landscapes Johnston calls “atmospheric” and “sublime.” In the next room, there is a room-sized installation of painted Tyvek house wrap. You walk inside and listen to the sounds of Lake Superior at sunset. Capping off the exhibition is a chance for visitors to write their own water stories in little watercolor books and hang them as part of the display. Labovitz “really has it all in the art in this exhibition: installation, painting, site-specific work and social engagement,” Johnston said. The exhibit runs through Jan. 22. The Minnesota Marine Art Museum's focus on our relationship to water means that it also has a connection to our next Art Hound's recommendation, as a sponsor of a Winona-based podcast. Visual artist Anne George of Winona has been listening to the podcast “Back Channel Radio.” The first season dives into the oral history of the boathouse community of Wolf Spider Island, also known as Lower Latsch Island, which is moored in a backwater of the Mississippi River. The podcast is narrated by Gina Favano, who lives in a Wolf Spider Island boathouse. As she delves into local history, past media coverage, and personal interviews, she offers an insider look into this unique community. George says the podcast is “compelling” and “fills in the blanks” even for people who are familiar with the boathouses. The season has six episodes, available on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. Minneapolis-based art enthusiast Robert Borman recommends the musical comedy “Church Basement Ladies: Plowin' Through.” The long-running show features the same four ladies, working at a church in a small Minnesota town as weddings, funerals and the stuff of life pass through. The ninth installment brings us to the year 1975, with its polyester pantsuits, music and (the church basement ladies') slapstick humor. “It's hilarious. It's witty. It has a heart. The Genesis Collective's Community Theatre Project Our Stories: A Play for Beaver County Voices On episode 22 of the TSVP Radio Theater Podcast, we present a special preview performance of The Genesis Collective's inaugural community theatre project: Our Stories: A Play for Beaver County Voices. Performed in the radio theatre-style before a live audience at the sold-out Beaver Train Station in Beaver, Pennsylvania, this show represents the dramatic arts feature of The Genesis Collective's 2022 Art Madness Celebration in Beaver County. Visit The Genesis Collective Episode Cover: Artwork by Jacob Swanson. Previous Next Photos: Erin Ninehouser/Rustbelt Mayberry Photography About this Play The performance featured here is a special preview of Our Story's future stage presentation to be held August 20, 2022 at the Black Box Theater in the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center, Midland, Pennsylvania. This is the inaugural production of The Genesis Collective's Community Theatre Project--an innovative initiative designed to support the dramatic arts in Beaver County by creatively revealing and showcasing the voices and stories of our time and in our communities. Our Story: A Play for Beaver County Voices does just that. The subjects, incidents, characters, and dialogue are all based on actual interviews and recorded conversations with Beaver Countians--our friends, neighbors, and fellow citizens. We make no apologies for the sometimes uncomfortable truths borne out by these lived experiences. We stand by our sources and lift up their voices and stories from the marginalized shadows, where far too many of us would rather they stay "out of sight, out of mind," as our play's Maggie Kowalski says. These stories are bad for business, bad for attracting new investment. What town wants to damage their reputation by talking about . . . food insecurity, homelessness, human trafficking, or the psychological traumas brought on by the Pandemic? These Beaver County stories make us wince, naturally. But we can't ignore them. Only then can we meaningfully address the issues facing us today and with hope and possibility transform our communities--our entire county--into a better place to be. Ars vitam meliorem facit -- art makes life better. Cast & Crew Robert Hugh Harper Hugh plays the part of Walter Montegomery. Hugh is a Beaver County native and professional voice actor specializing in audiobooks. He played in a number of movies including a Cannes Palme d'Or winner, NYC short film festival award winner “Stock Footage,” and numerous co-costing spots for Seto Nakai Media and NHK in Japan. He is married to Kristi, and father of Abby Harper – they love in Beaver, PA Keith Zagorski Keith plays the part of Tom Robinson. Keith is a 25 year veteran actor with multiple Western Pennsylvania theatre companies. He is a founding member of The Bobcat Players (Beaver, Pa). His favorite roles include The Drawer Boy (Angus), Old Love (Bud Mitchell), and Harvey (Elwood P. Dowd) with the Bobcat Players; A Fine Bright Day Today (Milton Farnsworth) and The Grand Manner (Guthrie McClintic) with the Little Lake Theatre. Jenn Rian Jenn plays the part of Charlotte Wilson.

Bunce Hall was our first academic building on campus, and it was finished September 23, 1923 as we opened our doors to female education students and began our history as Glassboro Normal School. Our University went through 5 name changes before becoming what we are today, Rowan University, thanks to a $100 million dollar donation by Henry M. Rowan. Bunce Hall now houses our Foreign Language Department, Theater Department, Philosophy/Religion and English. There are two theaters in Bunce Hall,Tohill Theater and our Black Box Theater, which hold numerous performances done by our talented students. Bunce Hall is a part of every student's college experience as it faces our Commencement Green, where every student graduates and walks across our graduation stage during our annual ceremony.

In this episode, we talk about fiction, and worldbuilding. We first focus on how to create compelling characters, and we refer to the Game of Thrones series finale as a bad example of it. We also explore the psychology of failed expectations. We then get into how people want meaning from fiction, and how tragedies like war might provide that. We also discuss popular genres and why they are so successful, and how politics and morality might ruin good literature. We finish by talking about how fiction can work as a thought-experiment, and how it is not so detached from things humans develop through culture. -- Follow Victoria's work: Website: http://bit.ly/2HoiQ0f COLD (blog): http://bit.ly/2ZnyeUU YouTube channel/vlog: http://bit.ly/2HkHoYc Books on Amazon: https://amzn.to/2PrstSz Twitter handle: @vicdougherty Support Victoria on Patreon! : http://bit.ly/31VXqj1 -- A HUGE THANK YOU TO MY PATRONS: KARIN LIETZCKE, ANN BLANCHETTE, SCIMED, PER HELGE HAAKSTD LARSEN, LAU GUERREIRO, RUI BELEZA, ANTÓNIO CUNHA, CHANTEL GELINAS, JERRY MULLER, FRANCIS FORDE, HANS FREDRIK SUNDE, BRIAN RIVERA, ADRIANO ANDRADE, YEVHEN BODRENKO, SERGIU CODREANU, ADAM BJERRE, ŁUKASZ STAFINIAK, AIRES ALMEIDA, BERNARDO SEIXAS, HERBERT GINTIS, RUTGER VOS, RICARDO VLADIMIRO, BO WINEGARD, JOHN CONNORS, ADAM KESSEL, VEGA GIDEY, AND CRAIG HEALY! All the characters are believable. All the situations they’re put in are believable." - Vanessa "I really enjoyed this gathering together of four short-form films and I don’t think there’s a weak one in the bunch. … I think they are all quite fantastic! In the feature interview, Vermontijuana Podcast cohost, Uncle Drew, breaks down the "Vape Dad" lifestyle and how the ability to discreetly use a vaporizer to micro-dose cannabis has helped him manage the stress that comes with being a 'normal' guy with a house, wife, and young kid. There was also some incidental rat bashing and coming of age discussion sprinkled in there as well...
