So I reached out and it's been such a treat to learn more and follow her these last few months — and it's cool that my girls can actually watch her videos and listen to her music. We talked about self-care and self-love, how her family got through the Borderline Bar & Grill Shooting and losing their house in the Woolsey Fire in 2018 -- just months after being on American Idol, her upbringing with a mom who had her own singing career, and how she deals with haters and trolls in her IG Live that she does every weeknight at 8. Hello "Feel Good" Runners! Well it is hard to believe it is already April!  This year is flying by and spring is definitely in the air.  After a long winter, runners all over can now peel off the layers and run outside!  And April means it is time for the (https://www.baa.org/) to be held on Monday April 15th. Good luck to everyone that is running it this year. I hope you have wonderful weather and the stars align for an excellent race! After being stuck in Denver in the Bomb Cyclone storm, I made my way to Los Angeles for the Los Angeles Marathon Expo. I'm Co-Race Director of the Maui Marathon (https://mauimarathon.com/) and we had a booth at expo and we met so many runners. It was ridiculous fun and I enjoyed seeing the excitement and enthusiasm of each runner and enjoyed our conversations.  I love LA! My guest this episode is (https://tedxbeaconstreet.com/speakers/liz-roux/) and her story captivated me and I knew I had to reach out to her.  Liz is an intelligent, strong young lady. Please take the time to listen to our conversation. You will be glad you did! In my opening I talk about a new feature on the website...your ability to record up to a 3 minute message. You can tell us your story and how you got into running and why!  Or tell us about your favorite run or a personal running accomplishment. And you can leave a comment about the Podcast. I will sort through them and maybe play it on a future episode. Just go to the main page of this website and scroll to the bottom and you will see where you can click. Also, you can just click the tab to the right where it says "Send Voice Message" which may be easier. The opening also includes an update on our first Women's Running Self-Defense class taught by Tasha's on-line course (http://wwd.international/index.php/runner-safety) . She is providing a limited time $20 discount for Feel Good Running Podcast listeners. We do not financially benefit from Tasha's course. Your safety is what we are interested in. I also talk about a Netflix documentary I recently saw called Roll with Me (https://www.rollwithmethemovie.com/) . It is about Gabriel Cordell, paralyzed from the chest down after a car accident, who rolled his wheelchair across the USA in 100 days. He started in Santa Monica, California and rolled to New Jersey. Amazing documentary and I would like to have him on Feel Good Running as a guest even though it does not pertain to running. His inspiration would motivate everyone! We will see what happens with that. The news segment this week features Katelyn Dolder who survived the Borderline Bar mass shooting last November in Thousand Oaks, California and Michelle "Mo" Wheeler who is running the Boston Marathon for the Samaritans Marathon Team (https://samaritanshope.org/events/marathon/) . The Samaritans run in honor of loved ones lost to suicide. I end the news segment with a comment on the Barkley Marathons which is considered the world's toughest race with only 15 finishers in 33 years and zero finishers the past two. I find this event nothing more than a novelty event and am not a fan. Any race that is designed for a runners failure is useless in my mind. Races that challenge us runners that we all have the opportunity to finish if we train is what I am interested in. This is my own personal opinion of course and no disrespect if races like the Barkley Marathons happens to be your jam. Runners, Feel Good Running Podcast reached a milestone of over 1,000 downloads since we launched in December. This is because of you and I am very grateful to all of you that listen.  Please keep sharing the podcast with your friends and on your social media platforms and (hint, hint) a nice review and rating on Apple Podcast will certainly attract new listeners to the podcast.  Someday it would be nice to have 1,000+ downloads per episode!  We can reach that dream with your help! Enjoy Episode #10... And as always...remember to just show...

Tragedy again strikes the country as another mass killing has occurred. 28 year old Marine veteran Ian David Long entered the Borderline Bar and Grill in Thousand Oaks California during a College Country night and killed 12 people before turning the gun on himself. Long's motives remain unclear but neighbors say he was known to suffer from PTSD. Kris Ankarlo, reporter for one of our iHeart radio stations in Los Angeles, was on the scene and spoke to us about how the night unfolded. Next, my producer Miranda joins us for more on the background of the shooter. He was in the Marines from 2008 to 2013 and was honorably discharged, although he was not without his problems getting caught shoplifting. Long used a Glock 21 .45 caliber handgun he bought legally but used an extended magazine which is illegal in California. Thousand Oaks, the city where the shooting occurred, was declared the third safest city in the US before this. Finally, we can't tell this story completely without telling the story of the victims. Twelve people were killed and 22 others were injured. Among the dead was Ventura County Sheriff's Sgt. Ron Helus. He is being praised as a hero after being one of the first on the scene and going in to the Borderline Bar and Grill to engage the shooter. He was shot multiple times and died later. We will tell you about him and some of the other victims. Learn more about your ad-choices at https://www.iheartpodcastnetwork.com

This happened just last night, Wednesday, November 7. Media are reporting that 12 are dead. The shooter, Ian David Long, is dead. At least one of the people killed, Sgt. Ron Helus, was a first responder. Yesterday, Donald Trump fired Attorney General Jefferson Sessions amid Trump's concerns about his loyalty. So again, Trump interfering with that investigation and raising all kinds of questions related to ethics. Today on Sojourner Truth: Yet another mass shooting in the United States - this time, it occured not too far from Pacifica Radio's KPFK studios, in Thousand Oaks, California, at the Borderline Bar and Grill. You may recall that Trump has been very upset with Sessions for recusing himself from the Russia investigation. This move is seen by many as a way to undermine and undercut the Mueller investigation. So again, Trump interfering with that investigation and raising all kinds of questions related to ethics. The man he has named to temporarily replace Sessions, Matthew Whitaker, has been critical of the Mueller investigation. With all of that in mind, protests are being planned across the United States. It is predicted that 700-900 protests will happen, a lot of them at 5 p.m. today. Additionally, just yesterday, the Trump administration took on CNN journalist Jim Acosta and two Black women whom he derided in a White House press conference. That ended with Acosta's press pass to the White House being revoked. The journalists Trump has been after are journalists of color: Jim Acosta, who is Latino, and two Black women journalists. We speak with cultural critic and journalist Dr. Henry Giroux to discuss all of this.
