Mike Isaacson, Currently in his ninth season and only the third person to hold this position in The Muny's 103-year history. To date, he has produced 56 Muny shows, 23 of which had never been on the Muny stage before. He has collaborated at The Muny with many Tony award winners and breakthrough talents, including Christian Borle, Colin Donnell, Marcia Milgrom Dodge, Gary Griffin, Heather Headley, Jennifer Holliday, Denis Jones, Laura Michelle Kelly, Dan Knecht- ges, Beth Leavel, Norm Lewis, Beth Malone, Kathleen Marshall, Patti Murin, Josh Rhodes, Emily Skinner and Ken Page. The Riverfront Times wrote, “Under the leadership of executive producer Mike Isaacson, the quality of Muny productions rose like the proverbial phoenix.” The St. Louis Post-Dispatch named him “Theatre Artist of the Year,” noting that by “staging one impressive production after another, he made The Muny simultaneously hip and – be- lieve it – important to our community.” During Isaacson's tenure, The Muny has produced new developmental productions of Irving Berlin's Holiday Inn, Lerner and Loewe's Paint Your Wagon and The Unsinkable Molly Brown. During its record-breaking 100th season, The Muny became the first theatre in the world to produce the legendary Jerome Robbins' Broadway, doing unprecedented archival work on both the artistic and business side. During that same season, The Muny produced the U.S. regional premiere of Jersey Boys. Isaacson has changed the look and feel of a Muny production, overseeing a transformation in every aspect of pro- duction that culminated in 2019 with the arrival of the theatre's extraordinary James S. Mc- Donnell stage, a state-of-the art stage house that includes revolutionary LED technology, automated sets and a host of other innovations. During the summer of 2020, when The Muny was closed due to COVID-19, Mike produced and created The Muny 2020 Variety Hour Live!, an online show that reached more than a worldwide audience of over 400,000. With Kristin Caskey, Isaacson has produced more than 23 Broadway musicals and plays, national tours, off-Broadway and London productions. All told, his productions have received more than 122 Tony nominations and 34 Tony Awards. Last year, he produced the highly ac- claimed David Byrne's American Utopia, which made every major “Top 10” list, and became a highly acclaimed film by Spike Lee on HBO, for which he also served as an executive produc- er. Just as the COVID-19 shutdown of Broadway began, he was awaiting the first preview of Neil Simon's Plaza Suite, starring Mathew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker. Also, during the shutdown, Isaacson served as a supporting producer of the acclaimed re- vival of The Unsinkable Molly Brown at New York's Transport Group. Other career highlights include: Fun Home (2015 Tony Award, Best Musical; 2018 Olivier nominee for Best Musical), Legally Blonde the Musical (2011 Olivier Award, Best Musical), Thoroughly Modern Millie (2002 Tony Award, Best Musical), Red (2010 Tony Award, Best Play), The Humans (2016 Tony Award, Best Play), If/Then, starring Idina Menzel, Lanford Wilson's Burn This, starring Adam Driver and Kerri Russell (2019 Tony nomination for Best Revival of a Play), Bring It On: The Musical (2013 Tony nomination for Best Musical), A Doll's House 2 (2017 Tony nomination for Best Play), You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown (1999 Tony nomination for Best Revival of a Musical), The Seagull, starring Kristin Scott Thomas, Carey Mulligan and Peter Sarsgaard, Caroline, or Change (Tony nomination for Best Musical); One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (2001 Tony Award, Best Revival of a Play) and Death of a Salesman (1999 Tony Award, Best Revival of a Play). For the Independent Presenters Network, Isaacson served as producer for Spamalot (2005 Tony Award, Best Musical), Ragtime (revival) and The Color Purple (2006 Tony nomination for Best Musical). He has received the St. Louis Arts and Education Council's Award for Excellence in the Arts and has been awarded The Broadway League's and Theatre Development Fund's Commercial Theater Institute “Robert Whitehead” Award for excellence in producing. She also talks about “getting in the zone” to bring Karen Smith to life in Mean Girls, the escape that both baseball and theatre provide, and the importance of outlets outside of a very challenging industry - as she is certified by the Wine & Spirit Education Trust. A signature edition of the 7th Inning Stretch Trivia also ensues, as she and the Break a Bat! crew share some big laughs over the Broadway and baseball community likening the Yankees’ All-Star closer/diva Aroldis Chapman to Regina George. In addition to everything Kate brought to the Batter’s Box, this was an extra special recording session for our show because the whole gang was there; as our host Al Malafronte was joined by Break a Bat! producer Alan Seales, and Chris Katzmann (co-creator of Break a Bat!) This episode ranks among our favorites to date. A very special thank you to the awesome Lori Wheat, and Her Story Branding for helping put it together. In a nod to her Dear mother, Minnie Toledo, Toni created this Minnie Episode... Toni and her sweet mom head to Port Townsend in the lovely state of Washington. They visited with Minnie’s family and Toni finds herself thinking about the PATH community and how much her current trip overlaps with the many trips we have taken over the past year. She tells the story of her Auntie Lorrie, who was the catalyst, in a way, for the PATH Pod with the meatless meatloaf she created in the 1960’s and her daughters Lisa and Linda. As Toni shares the story of the time with her family, she weaves in music from Bring It On: The Musical (2012) and shares how some of the song titles coincide with the stories of her relative’s lives. These are tales of incredibly strong, independent women who have been role models for Toni her entire life. The fact that Toni was able to take this trip with her mom Minnie, her greatest role model of all time, was the cherry on Top! Follow along on this Minnie PATH and you just might conjure up in your own mind those role models in your life who inspire and push you to be your best self.

Bring It On, Hamilton, the most recent revival of CATS, the revival of Falsettos, and this season’s Head Over Heels are just a few of the credits my guests today have on their impressive resumes. Shonica Gooden made her Broadway debut in 2012 in the musical Bring It On and three years later replaced Ariana DeBose as ‘The Bullet’ in the ensemble of Hamilton. Earlier this month, she was seen on the Damn Yankees episode of the TV miniseries Fosse/Verdon. Ellenore Scott was a finalist and All-Star on the TV reality show So You Think You Can Dance? and is the Associate Choreographer for this season’s larger-than-life Broadway musical King Kong. Both women started out as concert dancers but found their way to Broadway. And this month, they find themselves in Fayetteville working on the Cape Fear Regional production of the Tony Award-winning musical Memphis. Memphis is loosely inspired on the story of Dewey Phillips, one of the first white DJs to play black music in the 1950s. Shonica stars as Felicia in this production, which Ellenore is choreographing. Also notable about this production is that for the first time in the history of the show, the character of Delray is being played by a woman. Hear what Shonica and Ellenore have to say about that, their work on Broadway, on television, and of course, working here in North Carolina. About the Guests Ellenore Scott is a New York City-based choreographer and performer. Scott was a finalist and All-Star on the hit television show, So You Think You Can Dance? She was the Associate Choreographer for Head Over Heels on Broadway and is also the Associate Choreographer for King Kong: The Musical. Ellenore was the Assistant Choreographer for the Broadway Revivals of Cats and Falsettos. She also choreographed Off-Broadway’s Pride and Prejudice at the Cherry Lane Theater. She is also directing the revival of LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS. She is the Artistic Director of ELSCO Dance, a contemporary dance company. For more information visit: https://www.ellenorescott.co/ (https://www.ellenorescott.co/). Shonica Gooden toured and made her Broadway debut with the high flying cast of Bring It On: The Musical. Throughout the past eight years, Shonica has had the privilege and honor of being a part of other critically acclaimed shows such as Hamilton: An American Musical (The Bullet; Broadway), CATS (Rumpleteazer; Broadway Revival), Cinderella (Broadway), and Matilda”(1st National Tour). Shonica is spreading her wings in the film and Television industry, as well, co-starring this past summer in NBC’s Manifest. She can also be seen in The First Purge, Ted 2, and on the TV miniseries Fosse/Verdon. For more information visit: https://www.shonicagooden.com/about-me (https://www.shonicagooden.com/). You Guys!! We are the biggest Ryann Redmond fans ever! We first fell in love with her in 2012 when she made her Broadway debut as Bridget, the lovably awkward sidekick in "Bring It On: The Musical." From there, she went on to originate roles in "if/Then" and the critically beloved off-Broadway hit "Gigantic." This season she's back on Broadway in the Jimmy Buffet crowd pleaser "Escape To Margaritaville" which begins previews at the Marquis Theater on February 16th. We LOVED chatting with Ryann! enjoy!

Chris Herzberger is a producer and the VP of Live Theatricals for Universal. In this role, he oversees the day-to-day operation and long-term growth initiatives of the studio’s live stage division, which includes both Universal Stage Productions and DreamWorks Theatricals. Universal’s credits include the worldwide phenomenon Wicked, the Tony Award-winning adaptation of Billy Elliot, the Tony-nominated production of Bring It On: The Musical, and the Broadway premiere of Irving Berlin’s Holiday Inn. He began working professionally in the entertainment industry at the age of 14 when he cast as Billy in the much acclaimed Midwest premiere of Big, The Musical. In 2006, he began full-time work as the production assistant to Academy Award nominated writer/director/producer Gary Ross at Larger Than Life Productions and was subsequently promoted to Mr. Ross' 1st Assistant. Universal has one of the best track-records of all the studios on Broadway (Wicked, Billy Elliot, etc.). Chris talks about why he believes that is, as well as . . . Why he gave up acting to pursue a producing career. How he works hard at demonstrating to Broadway and its players that Universal isn’t some big “evil” corporation, but just a group of passionate people who love the theater. Will TV shows inspire the next wave of Broadway shows? Why he doesn’t announce the shows he is developing. His “taste test” for what in the Universal catalog can be a musical and what can’t. Deborah Sharn talks with Kristin Caskey, President and Executive Producer of Fox Theatricals about the 2015/2016 Fox Theatre season that includes Beautiful – the Carole King musical, If/Then, The Bridges of Madison County, Matilda the Musical, Newsies, and The Sound of Music. As Executive Producer along with Mike Isaacson, she and Mike have produced award winning shows such as Legally Blonde, Caroline or Change, Red, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Bring It On The Musical and the recent Tony awarding winning musical Fun Home among others.
Kristin Caskey is a producer. Along with Hal Luftig and Mike Isaacson, she received a Tony Award for her producing work on Urinetown. She has also produced One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Legally Blonde, Bring It On: The Musical, and Fun Home. I’ve known Kristin since the Millie days, when I was a Company Manger, and she was a first time lead Producer. As the President of Fox Theatricals, she’s produced a ton since then, including Legally Blonde, Caroline, or Change, Bring It On, and more. I was so thrilled when she agreed to jump on the ol’ podcast so she could talk about her career since Millie, as well as . . . How she saw huge potential in Fun Home when so many (including myself) were scared by its subject matter. Why relationships with Authors are such important things for Producers to develop. For once and for all . . . is there a “road-block” of Tony Award voters? What she wishes she knew about Broadway Producing when she started that she knows now. Do you want to be a producer? And are you not in NY (just like she wasn’t when she started)? Here’s what you should do. Keep up with me: @KenDavenportBway www.theproducersperspective.com Learn more about your ad choices.
