A découvrir ici : https://chateaudelacraffe.com/

With someone as passionate about wine as if they breathe it, it's no wonder you can sense their desire to learn more. Even though it might be difficult, one would go to great lengths to become more knowledgeable and skilled about wine and winemaking. Ana Reis personifies that. The great love she has for her craft, along with her energetic and fun nature, will ensure success for her. Let's join Ana as she teaches and entertains us with her funny Portuguese wine names and fun stories about wine and the people involved. Let us marvel at her passion and dedication to her work. Learn about what it takes to take a WSET course, the levels involved, and what those mean as you go from one level to the next. Discover Portuguese food and wine pairings that will leave you satiated, satisfied and enjoy a great experience. Ana Reis has been in the hospitality business practically all her life, worked only in Porto, Portugal - but in quite a few hotels. Portugal has an amazing wine culture and history and she's trying to learn it… sip by sip. She's looking forward to telling her story! She was born and raised in Porto, Portugal. She's 30 years old and has been in the hospitality business almost since birth, believe it not! Her mother had a small catering and events company and from a very young age she started helping her and developing her love for this difficult but rewarding career. She studied hospitality management and worked in a lot of well-known hotels in Porto like Sheraton, Intercontinental and Yeatman. Ana started by waiting tables, switched to bartending and after some years, discovered her love for wine and took the WSET level 2 and now she's on her way to get the WSET level 3. Portugal has some of the oldest and most amazing wine regions in the world, so it's not hard not to be fascinated by this subject... just like Ana is. "So it's just the first crush of the grapes, the red skin grapes. We get a little bit of color, and that's the rose." "It's addicting because you learn about the history and there's so much of the world history around wine." "You start thinking about it, you start studying and you just want to go, want to get more and more information." "Since Portuguese, such an old wine country, the old people used to name grapes whatever it came to their mind." "There's a red grape called, which means in English, "strangle a dog." "Malvasia Corada is the name of a grape and she's embarrassed for some reason." "I need to learn more about wine because you just realize how much there is to know." "I've traveled the world without getting out of my city because I meet people from all over the place." "Something like someone's whole life is inside that bottle, like a little piece of their whole life is there and a lot of hours." "Portuguese cuisine is very rich, very flavorful."

Located in the upper Douro DOC, a UNESCO Cultural World Heritage site since 2001, Kopke benefits from the imposing geography of the Douro Valley: the plunging valleys allow vines to be planted from altitudes of 1,900 feet on the upper ridges, down to 230 feet alongside the river, with immensely diverse terroirs. Kopke wines are sourced and produced in Quinta São Luiz, one of the most important estates in Douro region. This 300-acre estate has 220 acres planted to traditional Portuguese grape varieties, such as Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, and Tinta Cão. There are also small plots of Tinta Barroca and Souzão. Who doesn't love a good glass of wine? Well, when we found out that the Wine & Spirit Education Trust in London have their first blind teacher Richard Lane, we thought we ought to go sit in on a class and get educated about the world of wine. We hear from Richard about his journey from being a student at WSET to becoming a wine educator there and we caught up with Harry Meade, who is himself blind, and one of Richard's pupils. We asked Harry how it fared having a visually impaired teacher. We rightly hear a lot about how we live in a highly visual world and part of that encompasses architecture and the built environment. Our reporter Fern Lulham paid a visit to a course called Architecture Beyond Sight at the Bartlett School of Architecture in London. The aim of the course is to include visually impaired people within the design and making of architecture from the very beginning. Fern even tried her hand at using some of the large power tools available in the classroom... Have you worked with a social media influencer? While the concept of working with influencers may sound intimidating to some, we can assure you that with clear goals and succinct calls to action, the process is super rewarding and for direct to consumer sales can be very lucrative. Welcome to Marketing Tip Monday with SIP Certified. We know customers are looking for wines labeled as sustainable. While our longer-form episodes help you learn about the latest science and research for the wine industry, these twice-monthly micro podcasts will help you share your dedication to sustainable winegrowing so you can show your customers that you share their values. Today we are taking about social media influencers. As we've discussed in previous Marketing Tips, partnering with social media influencers is a great way to reach groups of people who may be unaware of your brand, and specifically, partnering with a "wine influencer" will ensure that your brand is being shared with consumers who are passionate about wine and wine culture. In an effort to broaden brand awareness for SIP Certified, we engaged social media influencers in Q1 and Q2 of 2022. These campaigns were an incredible way to educate consumers about the benefits of purchasing SIP Certified wines and helped distill the messaging of sustainability down to digestible language via influencers. Creating a budget, establishing goals, brand parameters, and tracking engagement are the key elements in an influencer campaign. Any reputable influencer will have a rate sheet complete with their prices for different types of posts as well as their average engagement rates and demographic reach. This is important for your brand as the reach should be successful and align with your existing or aspirational customer. Setting brand parameters is important so the influencer's messaging is in line with your existing brand guidelines and feel. Now, to really see how these partnerships have played out, I invite you to check out our show notes and use the link to our latest article called, Connecting with a Broader Audience. Here you can see the recipes created by the equally talented and funny Jerry James Stone. This year, Jerry is pairing SIP Certified brands with fresh and simple eats that you are going to want to try for yourself. Check out Seared Polenta with Slow Roasted Tomatoes and Pesto & Ron Rubin's 2019 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir and Blackberry Balsamic & Basil Grilled Cheese & Rava's 2018 Grenache Rosé. This year we just had to work with Isis Daniel, aka the Millennial Somm again. A certified Level 3 with Merit Wine and Spirit Education Trust wine consultant and wine content creator, she produces educational and entertaining wine content across her social media channels. In her fun and casual #TastingThursday Instagram live show, she sits and sips with wine-growers and -makers through a friendly interview, giving her audience insight into the personalities and passions of the people behind the wines. Grab a glass of McIntyre's 2018 Pinot Noir and sit back and enjoy our #TastingThursday with Kristen McIntyre of McIntyre Wines! A lifelong love for travel, a degree in Visual Arts and Art History, and a whimsical purchase of a bottle of Bordeaux were the perfect ingredients to inspire Christy to begin her exploration of California's diverse wine-growing regions. Thus, Christy on the Vine was born. Her wine blog is dedicated to documenting her experiences with the wines and wineries she encounters on her journeys. Join Christy on the Vine as she enjoys SIP Certified Sustainable Wines from the Santa Lucia Highlands in the sand in Monterey Bay. Featured on this blog and Instagram post are the 2019 SLH Chardonnay from McIntyre Family Wines and the 2019 Lucia Pinot Noir from Pisoni Family Vineyards. Dedicated to making wine, food, and travel more fun, Mike Cano leverages his multilingual, communications, and digital marketing skills to invite consumers of all demographics to explore various wines and wine regions. Through his wine blog, LatinxWine, he shares informative brand backstory and wine tasting notes of the wines he enjoys. His sunny, poolside Instagram post documents his experience of two SIP Certified wines: Center of Effort's 2017 Edna Valley Chardonnay, and Cambria Estate Winery's 2020 Julia's Vineyard Pinot Noir. Anne grew up in Belfast, Northern Ireland in a household that appreciated wine. After she received her Language degree at University, she was certain she wanted to do anything but what the career office suggested. She moved to London and applied to the jobs that needed French language skills. Her first job happened to be at a wine agency that imported French wine. For the Love of Wine Though Anne's father shared his love of wine with her when she was young it was as an adult that she found her own fascination in wine. She enjoyed the industry, people, and lifestyle that shared a love of good living, food, drinking, and camaraderie. Anne appreciated the multidisciplinary aspect of wine. It involves geography, biology, chemistry, history, language, culture, and philosophy. Wine can often tell a story about a time, place, and family. It can be an intellectual and sometimes spiritual experience. Becoming a Master Her job started her with her first WSET (Wine and Spirit Education Trust) wine course and she continued studying wine for the next 10 years until she became a wine master. Wine master is the highest distinction of professional wine knowledge. She is one of only 416 wine masters in the world, of which 149 wine masters are women. The Master of Wine study programme, as well as the advanced qualifications leading to it, is rigorous and demanding including research papers, capstone paper, and several written exams. The Institute of Masters of Wine, of which Anne is a member, has a Diversity Committee and, in recent years, wine masters are from all over the world and from all walks of life. The Life of a Wine Master When consulting with restaurants on their drink menu and pairings, Anne may taste 80-90 wines in a day. At the end of the day, although she spits out the wine, it is quite exhausting for the palette. Anne gets to taste the amazing foods and desserts the chefs create to create the perfect drink pairing. One of her strangest wine pairing experiences was in Australia where she paired a kangaroo dish with Shiraz. Next month, Anne is exploring the indigenouse Greek grapes of Santorini to pair with the local foods. Wine Education from a Master A basic and broad rule for pairing wine is to match the richness of a wine with the richness of the food. A light salad may be paired with a light and crisp white or a lighter crisp red. Rich and creamy food like cheese or rich meats may be paired with a wine with a rich body. Wine is geography. The warmer the climate in which the grapes grow, the higher the alcohol, fuller the body, and lower the acidity of the wine. The Chablis wine is produced in the cooler climates of Northern France. The grape is actually a Chardonnay grape but because it's grown in the cooler region, it's quite crisp with lots of acidity and not too much body or alcohol. A Merlot grape grown in the warmer climate of Napa is going to be rich and full-bodied. In Anne's cache of wine, the greater majority of her few hundreds of bottles are from France. Though the rest of her collection are from all over the world. Her least favorite wines are from a small variety in South Africa called Pinotage. She personally does not prefer the smokiness that compares to a barbeque. There is a No-Low alcohol-free movement in the UK and has several respectable brands. Though spirits, beers, and sparkling wine have made a lot of progress in quality, still wine faces the challenge of achieving the balance and texture that comes from alcohol. There is a lot of research focussed on making no-low alcohol options that would be desirable to drink. More Tips from a Wine Master Shop at a local wine merchant and develop a relationship with them. The merchants have gone to great lengths to source their wine and know about each bottle on the shelf. Use wine apps like Vivino. Check labels or wine descriptions to learn the words and language that are used to describe wines that you already enjoy. Use them to communicate to sommeliers and merchants to find similar types so you can explore something different. About Anne Anne is based in London where she is a wine communicator, consultant, and educator. In 2016, she founded her consultancy and education business where her massive experience and expertise led her to craft her direction in life around wine and her passions. She designs wine lists and works as an ambassador for brands and wine regions. She offers wine education at all levels from her signature program called Diploma Therapy for WSET diploma students to wine series on Instagram. She is involved with the Institute of Masters of Wine and many other notable wine organizations. Enjoy the Podcast? So, a guy walks into a wine bar. Actually, for a good chunk of 2020, no guys or gals were walking into any wine bars in Florida—unless it was to pick up a to-go order for drinking at home. Today, Judith Smelser will explain why this matters. Judith is the founder of Orlando Wine Blog and the wine columnist for Edible Orlando. She also holds a Level 2 Certification from the Wine and Spirit Education Trust. Last year, when the COVID-19 pandemic brought Florida's hospitality industry to a screeching halt, she started the podcast UnWineding to chronicle the effects on Florida's wine-based businesses. She shares how wine bars got creative to survive, explains why Disney World is good for Orlando's wine scene and offers suggestions for discovering your new favorite bottle of wine. This podcast episode is a recording of the presentation given at the Surpass Conference in October 2020 by Romana Moss, Project Manager for the Wine and Spirit Education Trust. Romana discusses WSET's planned journey to introduce computer-based testing in centres with Surpass, which were slightly hijacked by COVID-19 resulting in a rapid implementation of remote invigilation. Romana discusses how the lessons learned have better informed their previous roll-out plans. Presentations are created independently, and as such views expressed by speakers do not necessarily reflect those of BTL Group Ltd. or the Surpass team.
Steven Spurrier born 5th October 1941, was educated at Rugby School and the London School of Economics. In 1964 he joined the wine trade as a trainee with Christopher and Co (established 1665). In 1970 he moved to Paris and purchased Les Caves de la Madeleine, a small shop in the centre of the city, and in 1973 opened L'Academie du Vin, the first independent wine school in France. As a partner, he became involved in divers ventures allied to wine: Le Bistrot a Vin, a winebar/restaurant in the business quarter of La Defense; Le Chemin des Vignes, a warehouse and bottling plant on the outskirts of Paris; Le Moulin du Village and Le Blue Fox, a restaurant and winebar near the Caves de la Madeleine. Spurrier is perhaps best known for having created the tasting between top Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon wines from California and France in May 1976, subsequently referred to as The Judgement of Paris. A recreation of this event was held 30 years to the day on May 24th 2006, simultaneously in London and Napa In 1988, he sold his wine business interests in Paris and returned to the UK to become an independent wine consultant. His clients have included Harrods in London and Hediard in Paris, Singapore Airlines and Christie's for whom he created the Christie's Wine Course in 1982. He is also Consultant Editor for Decanter Magazine and Chairman of the Decanter World Wine Awards, now the world's biggest wine competition, since its inception in 2004 and Chairman of Decanter Asia Wine Awards, Asia's largest wine competition, since 2012. He is the author of eight books on wine of which two: L’Academie du Vin Wine Course and L'Academie du Vin Guide to French Wines have been translated into several languages. Some of the prizes and awards that Steven Spurrier has won include "The Bunch Award" for articles in Decanter in 1996, "Le Prix de Champagne Lanson” in 1997, "Ritz Carlton Millienia Lifetime Achievement Award" in 1999 and "Le Prix Louis Marinier” for writing on Bordeaux in 2000. In 2001 he was awarded "Le Grand Prix de l'Academie Internationale du Vin" (only the third time this award has been given since 1982) and also "The Andre Tchelistcheff Maestro Award” from California. He is married, with two grown-up children, and lives, when not travelling, in London and Dorset. After much reflection and research, he decided with his wife Bella to plant a vineyard on their farm in south Dorset. There are now 25 acres planted to 55% Chardonnay, 25% Pinot Noir and 20% Pinot Meunier to make English Sparkling Wine under the name Bride Valley Vineyards, the first vintage being harvested in October 2011, the month of his 70th birthday. In 2017 he was made Decanter Man of the Year and also Honorary President of the Wine and Spirit Education Trust. In 2018 his memoirs were published under the title “Wine a Way of Life.” In 2019 he created with partners the Academie du Vin Library, which will publish new books and re-publish old classics for world wide distribution.

Kate Rockwell steps into the Batter’s Box in Episode 20 of Break a Bat! One of Broadway’s perennial All-Stars, Kate is currently starring as Karen Smith in Mean Girls on Broadway, and has mastered theatrical comedy as well as anyone in the game. As Kate closes in on her final weeks in the show after nearly two full years of All-Star performances, she looks back fondly on the role that she originated - which has earned her well-deserved acclaim from audiences and critics, as well as Drama Desk and Helen Hayes Award nominations. Kate's Broadway credits prior to Mean Girls include Legally Blonde, Hair, Bring It On The Musical, and Rock of Ages; and she has made recent appearances on television in FOX's Almost Family. In this episode, Kate takes the boys through some perspective and stories from her decade-plus in the industry, including sharing the stage with Yankee great Mark Teixeira while starring in Rock of Ages! She also talks about “getting in the zone” to bring Karen Smith to life in Mean Girls, the escape that both baseball and theatre provide, and the importance of outlets outside of a very challenging industry - as she is certified by the Wine & Spirit Education Trust. A signature edition of the 7th Inning Stretch Trivia also ensues, as she and the Break a Bat! crew share some big laughs over the Broadway and baseball community likening the Yankees’ All-Star closer/diva Aroldis Chapman to Regina George. In addition to everything Kate brought to the Batter’s Box, this was an extra special recording session for our show because the whole gang was there; as our host Al Malafronte was joined by Break a Bat! producer Alan Seales, and Chris Katzmann (co-creator of Break a Bat!) This episode ranks among our favorites to date. A very special thank you to the awesome Lori Wheat, and Her Story Branding for helping put it together. Mary Ewing-Mulligan is the President of International Wine Center, located in New York City, and a co-author of the "Wine For Dummies" books. Mary discusses her introduction to working with wine, employed by an Italian government agency responsible for promoting Italian wine. She explains the situation for Italian wines in the United States at the time, the 1970s, and how the Italian wines in the market went about competing with wines from other countries. She also contrasts that situation for Italian wine to the situation for Italian wine in the United States today, and points out what has changed. Mary then talks about her own experiences traveling to Italy, and her friendship with the Currado family of the Vietti winery in Italy's Piemonte. Mary goes on to explain a key decision in her own wine career, leaving a high paying job in public relations to take a more modestly paid position at a wine school. She talks about her struggles to pass the Master of Wine exam, and her eventual triumph as the first woman residing in North America to earn a Master of Wine title. She then discusses her introduction of the Wine and Spirit Education Trust curriculum to the United States. Mary's career takes another turn as she and her husband Ed McCarthy write the very successful "Wine For Dummies" book that led to a number of other wine books in the "Dummies" series being authored by the couple as well. She talks about how she and Ed went about writing the "Dummies" books, in terms of approach. And Mary grapples in this interview with being on the one hand the author of "Wine For Dummies," while on the other hand also being a Master of Wine. She explains how she feels about the pairing, and what her motivations were at each point in her career. The launch party is scheduled for Friday November 23rd at 9pm. Elian Habayeb and Ines Cabarrus-Habayeb aren't new to the scene. They've been doing this for quite a while now. Just 10 years ago, MUSIC AND WINE was a radio show, a weekly party, and a newspaper column that the couple produced and authored. And, although the Saturday event at the Mandarin Oriental's "Martinis" bar and the column in the Manila Standard Today ceased when the couple opened their first Chihuahua Mexican Grill, the syndicated radio program airing on the no longer existent 106.7 DreamFM "Manila's Jazz Authority" and on sister stations nationwide continued garnering an ever-growing listener base. As a podcast, MUSIC AND WINE Radio reaches the four corners of the Earth with hundreds of thousands of downloads and subscribers, just recently earning the #18 spot on Podomatic's global house music ranking. Today, DJ Elian remains the "music" part of the relationship, focusing on jazz more than ever before in his career. He obsessively follows the evolution of this American art form as it takes root in the world's most progressive societies, from New York, Chicago, San Francisco, and New Orleans, to Montreal, Toyko, Copenhagen, and Montreux. "There is a direct correlation between how dynamic a society is and how high the concentration of jazz bars," says Elian. "Jazz is the most advanced form of music out there today. Any musician that plays it must be a true master of his instrument." Elian plans to play DJ sets of "nothing but jazz" all night long, with carefully selected tracks dropped at the most appropriate points of the evening. His wife Ines holds a Level 3 Wine & Spirit Education Trust certificate and was a founding faculty member of top hospitality school Enderun, where she taught "beverage management" for five years. An avid jazz fan herself, she plans to work the room talking wine and helping guests find the perfect libation to pair with the evening's tunes. And just as jazz is abstract music, expect abstract photography by DPGK. Don't miss this if you're a fan of music, wine or both. And come congratulate Louie Ysmael on his gorgeous new jazz bar at the penthouse of the Alpha building! Meet Marcia J. Hamm, the wine lover who explores her passion and makes educated but accessible recommendations on her blog, Joy of Wine. Marcia wasn't always into wine, but an encounter with a pinot gris made her want to learn more about it. As she started studying, her husband told her she should really start writing down what she was experiencing, and that's where her blog began. She has pursued a lot of wine education over the years, including earning her WSET (Wine and Spirit Education Trust) certification and status as an Italian Wine Ambassador. But she strives to take the snobbery out of wine-tasting. She strongly feels that people shouldn't be made to feel stupid about wine, as you'll hear. Here are Marcia's recommendations: YEG Women in Wine, a non-profit organization focusing on female entrepreneurs in the beverages industry What the Truck?!, Edmonton's food truck extravaganza I Heart Edmonton, Emil Tiedemann's celebration of the city Marcia will be a judge at the 2016 Alberta Beverage Awards in Calgary in July, and you can also find her at Hicks Fine Wines in St. Albert. You can hire her, too, for home wine-tastings or corporate events. And she's on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. This episode was one of several recorded at the Makerspace at the downtown Edmonton Public Library on 100in1Day. Watch for more conversations captured that day in the coming months. This week's Seen and Heard in Edmonton is brought to you by Seven Music Fest, a day of great music in beautiful Seven Hills Park in the heart of St. Albert on July 9. The headliners are the Juno-award-winning Walk Off the Earth, and they're just one reason to check out the festival, as you'll hear in this episode. Get your tickets at sevenmusicfest.com. Musical credits: Beethoven’s Sonata No. 1 in F Minor, Op. 2 No. 1, played by Daniel Veesey, from freemusicarchive.com.
