Planning a vacation should be exciting—not overwhelming. But between choosing a destination, booking flights, creating an itinerary, and figuring out logistics, it's easy to feel stressed before your trip even begins. At The Travel Brats, we've planned everything from last-minute city getaways to international adventures booked nearly a year in advance. Over time, we've learned that the best trips happen when you focus on smart planning without overplanning every minute. Here's our step-by-step guide to planning a vacation the right way. 1. Start With Your "Why" Before choosing a destination, ask yourself: Do I want relaxation or adventure? Am I traveling for food, culture, nature, or nightlife? Am I recharging or packing my schedule? Your answer determines everything from budget to destination to daily activities. Helpful questions to research: Is this destination better for couples, friends, or families? Is it good for digital nomads? Can I visit without renting a car? Does it offer more adventure or relaxation? The clearer your travel goals, the easier every other decision becomes. 2. Set Your Dates and Budget You don't need an exact budget, but you need a realistic one. Consider: Number of travel days Flight costs Hotel or Airbnb costs Food and drinks Transportation Activities and excursions Most importantly, leave room for unexpected expenses. A good vacation budget includes a buffer because travel rarely goes exactly as planned. Also factor in important deadlines such as: PTO approval School breaks Weddings Special events 3. Choose Your Destination Strategically Timing can completely change your experience. Ask yourself: What's in season during my travel dates? Will weather affect the trip? Is it peak tourist season? How long is the travel time? Is the destination easy to navigate? If you only have a few vacation days, shorter flights often win. We've seen travelers hate destinations during crowded peak seasons and fall in love with the same places during shoulder season. Research matters. 4. Book the Big Stuff First Follow this order: ✈️ Flights

On today's episode of The Therapy Crouch, we're back for another Ask Me Anything and things get unexpectedly heated… over PAINT. Abbey Clancy and Peter Crouch dive into a listener dilemma about kitchen colours, which quickly spirals into a full-blown debate on Abbey's obsession with the infamous “bone” shade. From “50 shades of bone” to Peter questioning his entire marriage contract, it's chaos from the start.Abbey leans into her interior design expertise, dropping surprisingly detailed recommendations (and proving she definitely knows her stuff), while Peter isn't entirely convinced—especially when talk turns to gold floral wallpaper and dream living rooms. The pair clash over style, money, and what really matters when building a home, leading to a deeper conversation about whether a house is just a house… or something much more meaningful.Plus, the gang answer your questions on relationships, from navigating design disagreements with your partner to planning the perfect 15-year anniversary without breaking the bank—featuring some seriously tempting travel tips (Greece might be calling…). Expect laughs, honesty, and a glimpse into how differently couples can see the same life decisions. If you want to submit an Agony Ab to the podcast - hit the link belowhttps://docs.google.com/forms/d/1rAKDST4HU_8al_aWpOlys3TRJrWvDV-84piVdlOOjU4/edit00:00 Introduction02:20 Kitchen Colour Dilemma & “Bone” Debate05:30 Abbey's Interior Design Tips07:30 Dream Home Disagreements09:45 Passion vs “High Maintenance”10:45 What Makes a House a Home?12:10 Beds, Sleep & Luxury Must-Haves13:00 15-Year Anniversary Dilemma14:00 Budget Travel & Greece Recommendations18:00 Relationships, Marriage & What Matters23:00 Final Thoughts & OutroTo contact us:Email: thetherapycrouch@gmail.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/thetherapycrouchpodcast/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@thetherapycrouchWebsite: https://thetherapycrouch.com/For more from Peterhttps://twitter.com/petercrouchFor more from Abbeyhttps://www.instagram.com/abbeyclancyOur clips channelhttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZntcv96YhN8IvMAKsz4Dbg Hosted on Acast. I last saw South Korea's fabulous capital Seoul way back in 2002, so when my 15-year-old son spotted a great flight price in November I was very keen to take him there! This podcast episode reports back on our week in Seoul, and I even persuaded my son to come on and chat about our trip, too. I'm a big believer in being a thoughtful traveller in all phases of a trip, so in this episode I start off explaining the three things I did to prepare for our trip (at short notice - we booked a fortnight before we left) - and they do not involve planning a day-by-day itinerary. My son Ruben and I then chat about some of our favourite parts of the trip, including the best day out, most delicious meal and our most fun shopping experiences. I give us a rating on the thoughtful travel scorecard and then finish up by explaining our budget - for once I had all the figures to hand and several people had asked me. Listen and tell me if you think our budget was appropriate or not! In this final Nicaragua episode, Laura travels to Granada the way so many locals do—by chicken bus. These colorful, chaotic former U.S. school buses are an experience in themselves, and the journey from Ometepe to Granada is filled with market noise, snack vendors, seat strategy, and a healthy dose of travel nostalgia.Once in Granada, Laura wanders the relaxed colonial streets of one of the oldest cities in the Americas, founded in 1524 and shaped by its proximity to Lake Nicaragua. Along the way, we dive into the city's layered history—from Spanish colonization to ambitious canal plans that never fully materialized, including the long-debated alternative to the Panama Canal. This episode blends solo travel moments with big-picture history, all set against the backdrop of one of Nicaragua's most beautiful cities.Musical Credits:Momentos by MusicBox and Hello Love by Jasmine J Walker provided by: Slipstream Music Support the showWant to support the podcast? Friends of Anglotopia Club Takeaways Traveling around Britain on a budget is achievable with careful planning. Accommodation is often the largest expense; budget chain hotels can save money. Public transportation is affordable and efficient for getting around Britain. Many attractions, especially museums, are free to enter. Using a Britrail pass can be economical for train travel if used wisely. Dining at pubs and local grocery stores can significantly reduce food costs. Avoiding airport purchases can save a lot of money. Planning meals and taking advantage of hotel breakfasts can help budget. Memberships for organizations like English Heritage can provide access to multiple attractions. Advanced booking for accommodations and attractions can lead to significant savings. Sound Bites “Budget travel around Britain is possible — and in these belt-tightening times, it can make or break whether a trip even happens.” “You don't need British cash anymore. I haven't purchased pounds in fifteen years — Britain is almost entirely cashless now.” “If you're smart about where you stay, you can get a clean room for £30 to £50 a night at a Premier Inn or Travelodge — that's the secret to keeping your budget.” “The BritRail Pass lets you travel anywhere in Britain for one set price — it's your ticket to freedom on the rails.” “Fill up on the free breakfast, grab a £3 supermarket meal deal for lunch, and have a pub dinner — that's the recipe for staying under $100 a day.” “Skip the £80 afternoon tea in London — a proper cream tea at a National Trust café for under £10 is just as lovely.” “Join the Royal Oak Foundation or get an English Heritage pass — two visits to places like Blenheim or Stonehenge and they've paid for themselves.” “Travel carry-on only — it saves money, time, and stress. Everything you need for Britain can fit in one bag.” “Avoid buying anything at the airport — it's designed for desperation. Save your money for Britain.” “The goal isn't to travel cheap, it's to travel smart — to experience more of Britain without feeling like you're missing out.” Chapters 00:00 Budget Travel in Britain: An Overview 02:48 Pre-Travel Tips for Budgeting 16:11 Accommodation Strategies for Saving 23:58 Transportation Options for Budget Travelers 26:28 Exploring the Brit Rail Pass 34:44 Maximizing Free Attractions in Britain 42:14 Dining on a Budget in Britain 46:01 Money-Saving Tips for Travelers 51:16 Final Thoughts on Budget Travel 52:22 anglotopia-podcast-outro.mp4 Video Version

Episode 82I am so over the moon excited about today's guest! I have followed Ashley Campbell online for about 16 years but this is the first time we have actually talked to each other and it was just so much fun! Over the years I have found Ashley to be such a source of inspiration to me. I watched her raise her 5 kids, home schooling them, making art with them and on her own, and living an intentional lifestyle in pursuit of dream. That dream was to take their family of 7 on a trip around the world for a whole year. Then they actually did it and she wrote a book about it! Ashley's new book I've Never Been Here Before: Our Family's Year of Budget Travel, Wandering the World and Finding the Sacred is even more wonderful that I imagined it would be. And in today's episode we get to hear all about the details, planning, dreaming that went into creating this trip and then about the trip itself. Ashley is candid about the parts of this experience that were challenging, exciting and so fulfilling. We talk about what her family learned about the people of the world as they met other teens on basketball courts and soccer fields. Spoiler alert: it was far better than they imagined! I know you will be so inspired by this episode and even more by reading Ashley's book. The photography is all from their trip and the stories will just fill your soul. Be sure to go grab your copy after you listen to today's episode! Hear about travel to the Galapagos Islands as the Amateur Traveler talks to Michael from Rochester about doing this bucket list trip as a budget traveler. Why should you go to the Galapagos? Michael says, "It is a world location that should not be missed. And you do not have to be an animal enthusiast or safari adventure type person. That certainly helps to have an open mind about ecology and conservation. The animals, the marine life, and their ecosystem. If you have the opportunity to witness it firsthand, it truly is something that should not be missed. It is a marvel." This version is land-based (with Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz Island as the base) rather than a cruise, making it more budget-friendly while still offering access to iconic wildlife and landscapes. Fly from Quito or Guayaquil to Baltra Airport, then transfer by ferry and taxi to Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz Island. Check into your hotel (e.g., Hotel Fiesta, Puerto Ayora). Stroll along Avenida Charles Darwin: shops, galleries, and restaurants. Visit the Puerto Ayora fish market to watch fishermen unload their catch while sea lions, pelicans, and frigatebirds compete for scraps. Evening walk along the Malecón (boardwalk) where reef sharks can sometimes be spotted under the lights. 7-Day Galápagos Itinerary (Land-Based, Puerto Ayora Base)Day 1 – Arrival in Puerto Ayora ... https://amateurtraveler.com/budget-travel-to-the-galapagos-islands/ Learn more about your ad choices. Unfortunately, it's commonly recommended to open a lot of travel cards in order to earn the "sign up bonus" (SUB), but this can quickly lead to overwhelm, getting banned by banks and cause you to miss out on the truly great deals and a simpler system that could save you thousands on travel. In this episode, I outline the problems with opening too many travel cards and what the alternative is.✈️ NEW! Early Enrollment Is Open

What if, instead of fixating on what's left on your bucket list, you created an “anti-bucket list” of things you no longer need to do? This perspective-shifting idea comes from award-winning filmmaker Skye Bergman, who has gathered 3,000 years of collective wisdom from adults 75+ on how to live well.As milestone birthdays like 70 approach, many of us wonder if we'll have enough time to accomplish everything we desire. Bergman's documentary Lives Well-Lived and book Lives Well-Lived Generations challenge our youth-obsessed culture by showcasing vibrant, purposeful aging. Her research identifies four essential elements of a well-lived life: purpose, community, resilience, and positivity. Purpose evolves, especially after retirement, when professional identity shifts. The key is finding what truly brings joy—whether it's making mozzarella for your daughter's deli or volunteering to teach English. Bergman challenges ageist limitations with inspiring examples like her grandmother, who started working out at 80, and Ernestine Shepard, who became a champion bodybuilder in her 50s after losing loved ones to diabetes. These stories prove that age doesn't define what's possible.Bergman also highlights the power of intergenerational connections in combating isolation. Her monthly potluck dinners, bringing together women from ages 20 to 90, dissolve ageist divides and create a meaningful community.Ready to embrace aging on your own terms? It's time to create your anti-bucket list—letting go of what no longer serves you while embracing purpose, connection, and joy. Listen now to start redefining what's possible.Bio Sky Bergman is an accomplished, award-winning photographer. "Lives Well Lived" is Sky's directorial debut. The film is based upon her book "Lives Well-Lived Generations".Her fine art work is included in permanent collections at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Brooklyn Museum, the Seattle Art Museum, the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, and the Bibliothèque Nationale de France (National Library of France) in Paris. Her book, The Naked & The Nude: Images from the Sculpture Series, includes an introduction by Hèléne Pinet, curator of photography at the Rodin Museum in Paris. She has shot book covers for Random House and Farrar, Straus & Giroux, Inc., and magazine spreads that appeared in Smithsonian, Arthur Frommer's Budget Travel, Reader's Digest, and Archaeology Odyssey.Sky Bergman is a Professor of Photography and Video at Cal Poly State University in San Luis Obispo, CA.Websitehttps://www.skybergmanproductions.com/InstagramLinked InFacebookWe hope you have enjoyed this episode. Hydration is KeyOne of the biggest mistakes travelers make is not drinking enough water. Air travel, hot climates, and constant movement can dehydrate you fast, leading to fatigue and brain fog. The fix? Always carry a reusable water bottle and sip consistently throughout the day. Bonus tip: Add an electrolyte packet to your water to replenish lost minerals and stay even more refreshed! Dr. Kinney recommends using high-quality electrolytes if you want to take your hydration and energy levels up a notch. Her top picks include LMNT to help replenish essential minerals like sodium, potassium, and magnesium—perfect for preventing dehydration and keeping your body balanced while traveling. Fun fact, electrolytes also keep you from having to constantly hit the restroom on the plane!Dr. Kinney's Go-To SupplementsDr. Kinney also suggests packing a few key supplements to keep your immune system strong and stress levels low. Some of her must-haves include:Magnesium – Helps with constipation, relaxation, sleep, and muscle recovery.B Vitamins – Supports energy levels and combats travel fatigue.Vitamin C – Boosts the immune system to keep you feeling great.Probiotics – Aids digestion and keeps your gut happy after eating new foods.Adaptogens (like Ashwagandha) – Helps regulate stress and keep your body in balance.Zinc – Supports the immune system by helping the body fight off infections, making it essential for avoiding travel-related colds and sickness.Breathe Your Stress AwayFeeling overwhelmed in a crowded airport or a busy city? Deep belly breathing can work wonders to reset your nervous system. A simple but powerful technique is the 4-Second Breathing Method:Inhale deeply through your nose for four seconds.Hold your breath for four seconds.Exhale slowly through your mouth for four seconds.Repeat as needed. This method helps calm your nervous system, reduce stress, and bring you back to the present moment—perfect for travel anxiety, flight delays, or any stressful situation on the road. You can even use this breathing practice before you eat to combat bloating and stomach discomfort.Smart Snacking for Endless EnergyWe've all been there—running through an airport, starving, only to grab a sugary snack that leads to a crash an hour later. Instead, plan ahead! Pack protein-rich snacks like nuts, jerky, or protein bars to keep your energy levels steady and avoid those dreaded sugar highs and lows. Your future self will thank you!Move Your Body, Even on the GoSitting for long periods, whether on a plane, train, or car ride, can leave you feeling stiff and sluggish. Combat travel fatigue by stretching regularly and sneaking in movement whenever possible. A quick walk around the airport, a few yoga poses in your hotel room, or even some simple neck and shoulder stretches can do wonders for keeping your body happy.Reset Your Sleep Cycle with SunlightJet lag can be a real struggle, but one of the best ways to adjust to a new time zone quickly is by soaking up natural sunlight. As soon as you arrive, try to spend some time outside—whether it's a morning walk, a coffee on a sunny patio, or simply sitting by a window. Sunlight helps regulate your circadian rhythm, making it easier to adjust and sleep better.Recovering After Your TripEven with the best travel wellness habits, returning home can leave you feeling a little drained. Here's how to bounce back quickly:Hydrate and replenish – Keep drinking water and use electrolytes to restore balance.Get extra rest – Allow yourself an extra hour of sleep for a few nights to recover.Move gently – Light stretching, yoga, or walking can help loosen up any stiffness.Eat nourishing foods – Focus on whole foods, lean proteins, and lots of greens to reset your body.Unwind and de-stress – Take a bath, meditate, or use deep breathing to transition back into your routine smoothly.Get a massage – A massage can help relax muscles and, the mind and circulate blood flow after an intense trip.Handling Hiccups in Your TripNo matter how well you plan, travel can throw unexpected challenges your way—missed flights, lost luggage, bad weather, or sudden illness. The key is to stay flexible and have a backup plan. Here's how to navigate travel hiccups with ease:Missed flight? Stay calm, speak to the airline immediately, and check if you can be rebooked on the next available flight.Lost luggage? File a claim as soon as possible and keep essential items like medications, chargers, and one outfit in your carry-on.Feeling unwell? Carry basic medications and supplements to help with digestion, headaches, or colds. Rest and hydrate until you feel better. Is bad weather ruining plans? Embrace the change—check out indoor attractions, try new restaurants, or enjoy some downtime to recharge.Tech troubles? Keep copies of important travel documents in your email or cloud storage so you can access them even if your phone or laptop dies.Think Positive – Always try to look on the bright side and opportunities that can come from changing travel plans. There is no point in getting flustered by things you cannot change.Balance, Not PerfectionTraveling is about experiencing new things, and that includes food, culture, and adventure! Don't stress about sticking to a rigid health routine—aim for balance instead. Walk as much as possible, opt for fresh, local foods, and prioritize rest when you need it. The goal is to feel good so you can fully enjoy your travels!Your Wellness Adventure Starts Now!With these simple, effective tips from Dr. Erin Kinney, you'll be ready to take on any adventure while feeling your best. Stay hydrated, keep moving, and remember to breathe—it's all about enjoying the journey. For more travel wellness tips, follow Dr. Kinney on Instagram at @drkinney or at www.drerinkinney.com and check out her coaching programs.
