Cecil Bartholomew aka Mr. B was born in Curepe, Trinidad, attended Presentation College in Chaguanas, worked at the license office then moved to the US to study. He gained a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute in New York, bolstered by further studies in Artificial Intelligence at MIT as well as jazz and classical guitar. He served as an International Engineering Manager at Electronic Signature Analysis Technologies with Xerox for 30 years, in the US, South America, Europe, Middle East, Africa and Australia, innovating strategic technologies to enhance component reusability. He returned to the Caribbean in 2000 as ICT director for OECS [Organization of eastern Caribbean States] under the leadership of the then Prime Minister of Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique, Dr. Keith C. Mitchell. Mr. B resides in Saint George's, Grenada. He is a world-renowned Classical/Jazz guitar/Arranger/Composer, celebrated for his unique fusion of tropical rhythms and jazz structures and performed as a backup guitarist for visiting artists while he was active in New York City and had a significant performance history during the 1980s and 1990s. Although classically trained, Jazz became the main thrust. After a solo performance Gloucestershire England other performances occurred in Holland, Germany, France, and Australia, when a classical solo album was sold worldwide. Cecil also has two CDs. With a profound passion for music, he coined the term “Kingdom-Guitar,” emphasizing his commitment to integrate music with a powerful message. Cecil's musical journey began in Trinidad and continued in Grenada, where he developed a deep appreciation for the guitar under the mentorship of jazz legends Laurindo Almeida and Kenny Burrell. His compositions often reflect the Bossa Nova rhythm blended with cheerful lyrical jazz solos, creating a vibrant musical landscape in his works. Bartholomew's style, best described as "Tropical Jazz Fusion," artfully combines rock, calypso, and jazz standards, while also incorporating original compositions. As the composer and guitarist for the band, Bartholomew leads the ensemble's exploration of tropical jazz fusion, enhancing their sound through acoustic and electric guitar arrangements. The music produced is a harmonious blend of original works and creatively rearranged covers. Cecil was leader, composer and arranger of 2 bands: Akasa in the US and Quiet Fire in Grenada. His contributions in composition and arrangement helped shape the band's unique sound. He also played the double tenor steel pan and is a dedicated music instructor at Archibald Avenue Music since 2009.Presently retired, Mr. B performs weekly at the prestigious Calabash Hotel in Grenada and at special venues, mostly as a solo artist for the Government of Grenada and at other private events, while recording, teaching and changing the minds and hearts of youths through his music.A man of deep faith and conviction, Bartholomew sees music as a spiritual passage and a vehicle for societal change. He emphasizes discipline, effort, and heartfelt communication throughout, as well as advocating for women.

We consider how Houston changed after that landmark legislation. And we continue our summer series visiting area museums and attractions with a trip to the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston.

A joyful hike up Castle Hill near Huddersfield with We In Front, an inspirational group of walkers.Leading the way is Errol Hamlet who, having retired, felt bored, unhealthy and wanted a new challenge. He spotted a neighbour out walking during the pandemic and decided to join her. Then, one by one, more people joined until they eventually had a decent sized group. Most are senior citizens from the local West Indian community and they can often be heard singing as they disappear into the countryside surrounding Huddersfield. As they walk Clare hears about Carriacou, the Caribbean island where nine of the walkers spent at least some of their childhood. Apparently everyone on that island knows someone in Huddersfield... the two places are closely linked. There's also an unexpected conversation about the niche hobby of bottle-top collecting...The group started today's walk at grid reference SE155152 from where they followed a circuitous route up to Castle Hill. Dr. Carol's session featured case studies of Sierra Leone and Grenada and provided an examination of the motives of governments, NGOs, individuals, and other providers of global health services and humanitarian aid, as well as the perspective of how these services are received. So, I'm going to share part minutes of her session from Rising Tides, and then in the next episode Dr. Carol and are going to continue this conversation. Helpingchildrenworldwide.org
Amadu Massally is our guest today. He is the CEO and co-founder of Fambul Tiki and he is from Sierra Leone, a country in West Africa, that is bordered on one side by the Atlantic Ocean. It is known for the white-sand beaches lining the Freetown Peninsula. And also as one that has minerals! The main ones being diamonds, gold, bauxite, rutile, limonite, and iron. We are also blessed with rich fauna and flora and have some unique hippopotamuses, over a hundred bird species, and even rare chimpanzees. But one of the most interesting things about this country is how it helped to shape some parts of the world via the Transatlantic Slave Trade. And the formation of the capital city, Freetown, it is arguable, one of the most fascinating stories out there with regard to the establishment of capital cities, the world over. It is also the only country in Africa that can clearly show a two-way connection with the Gullah-Geechee people of South Carolina and Georgia to date. Sierra Leone has another two-way connection with the Maroons of Jamaica. We will explore some of those connections on these pages. While this is not well-known today, Sierra Leonean has a two-way connection with Trinidad and Tobago. Carriacou, Grenada; and Halifax, NS are also connections to Sierra Leone that Fambul Tik has explored. https://fambultik.com/ --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/bj-murphy9/support

Dead animals at Zurich University weren't going to deter Nadine from becoming a vet when she was only a tween. If anything, it encouraged her more. But after a few turns in her career, she wanted to go back to the roots of veterinary medicine. Welcome to Carriacou Animal Hospital, a veterinary charity in the Caribbean country of Grenada.Facebook's Carriacou Animal Hospital siteNadine tells us how the project started and how it works. The charity hospital welcomes veterinary volunteers to enjoy a working holiday on the fascinating island of Carriacou, only a few steps from the beach. As she puts it, they are the heart of the project. She talks about the endemic diseases you would encounter on the island and how these can be treated and prevented. In episode 64, Ashley shares one of her most memorable travel stories about island hopping from Grenada to its sister island, Carriacou. Solo travel has always been important to Ashley and her story reminds us that travel isn't always glamorous. This episode also sheds light into her experience while in Peace Corps and in the near future, the Travel Brats will be talking more about her time there and the reason for her departure.
Our highlights for today include 2 extensive, powerful interviews. One with a young lady from the parish of St. Andrew as she speaks on how her eyes are now open to the lies and gimmickry of the NNP. She displays a very clear understanding of the many issues we face and the clear ineptitude and recklessness of the NNP. She ends by issuing an urgent call to other youths to stand up and fight for Grenada. The second interview is with our Spokesman on Education, Bro. Joseph Andall. He speaks on the current impasse between government and the unions and shares some of NDC's plans and programs for the education sector, and teachers in particular. We also bring you a short statement by former Prime Minister, Tilman Thomas on the situation at the MBIA. Finally, Bro. Tevin Andrews, Caretaker for Carriacou and PM, makes a brief statement on the recent diplomatic blunder by the Minister for Carriacou & Petite Martinique Affairs and issues an apology to the British High Commissioner on behalf of the people of Grenada. A very exciting program today!

It’s a wide-ranging chat that covers: sailing the Greek islands; an unsuccessful attempt at purchasing a schooner; sailing a Carriacou Sloop thousands of miles; environmental stewardship; and how a great experience aboard can be transformative. With Carnivals in Dominica, Carriacou and Mashramani in Guyana, tings will be hotting up this weekend and we foucs on reformed International Soca Monarch in the twin islands. Who will take the new crown as we both have no previous winners in this year's competition. Will the march of Kes's fans go all the way to Savannah stage? Or will it be Famalay taking Soca to another level in the history books as the first Road march to win with not just a Trini? We look at what could be a Carnival to remember!
