Frank Slaughter recently spoke with Classical IPR about the history of "Repose," the show that he been hosting for Interlochen Public Radio since 1987. In the earliest days of the program, he broadcast a lot of music by George Winston and the Paul Winter Consort. With the success of musicians like Yanni in the early 1990s, Slaughter changed the focus of the program's music to more new age instrumental sounds. In this conversation with IPR's music director Amanda Sewell, Slaughter explains why he chose Danny Wright's cover of "Softly as I Leave You" for the "Repose" theme music, and why he signs off each program by asking his wife Maurine to "turn on the side light."

Expert Danny Wright from Peisner Johnson discusses the intricacies of sales tax and how it applies to business owners. Core concepts are discussed including determining if a business is subject to sales tax, identifying 'nexus' states where sales tax may be applicable, and understanding which products or services are taxable. Danny highlights the impact of accidental non-compliance, discussing the pitfalls of not remitting the sales tax charged to customers. He also notes complications caused by remote workers or drop-shipping in different states and explains the responsibilities under new marketplace facilitator laws. Finally, Danny explains how their firm offers free consultations to help businesses understand their unique responsibilities and potential liabilities.[00:00 - 09:24] Introduction to Sales Tax for Business OwnersDanny emphasizes the critical nature of sales tax as a gross receipts tax, which is independent of business profitability. He underlines the significance of setting up tax collection processes and the peace of mind it brings, despite initial administrative costs.Three main questions are addressed: What is the sales tax nexus? Is my product or service subject to sales tax? Who is responsible for handling sales tax?[09:24 - 20:30] The Impact of Sales Tax Nexus on Business OperationsSales tax is due based on the 'ship to' address, not where the product is sold or the business has nexus.A single small transaction does not automatically trigger nexus unless it exceeds the state's established threshold.Sales tax responsibility begins only after reaching the threshold, and states often offer a grace period for businesses to register and start collecting tax.[20:54 - 33:55] Invoicing and Pricing in TaxationDanny discusses the complexity of sales tax, highlighting that a business might have both taxable and non-taxable revenue streams. How businesses invoice their customers can affect taxability.Businesses with nexus in multiple states may still find that their products are exempt from sales tax everywhere.Quotes:"It's super important to pay attention to [sales tax] because it doesn't care about profitability... it really is something that can get you in trouble in a hurry in the future if you don't get an "Once you hit [an economic nexus] threshold, that is when your responsibility begins... a lot of the states offer a grace period... that's part of what you can pay attention to when you're reviewing your nexus." - Danny Wright"If you collect tax from a customer, it's not yours. And never keep it because you're going to be dealing with questions around fraud in the future." - Danny WrightConnect with Danny!Email: dannyw@pj.tax Website: https://peisnerjohnson.com ______Podcast Host: Mike Jesowshek, CPA - Founder and Host of Small Business Tax Savings PodcastJoin TaxElm: https://taxelm.com/IncSight Packages (Full-Service): https://incsight.net/pricing/Book an Initial Consultation (IncSight): https://app.simplymeet.me/o/incsight/sale-------Podcast Website: https://www.TaxSavingsPodcast.comFacebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/taxsavings/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@TaxSavings

In this podcast episode we, Ryan Johnson, Danny Wright, and Paul Johnson discuss the compliance requirements for non-US businesses operating in the United States. The conversation touches on various aspects related to tax compliance, especially for foreign sellers. We delve into the concept of nexus, which triggers a business's obligation to collect and remit sales tax in a state. We discuss potential roadblocks and challenges foreign businesses may face when trying to become compliant in the US.While foreign businesses don't necessarily need to set up an LLC or a corporation within a US state to establish tax compliance, having a US bank account could be necessary to facilitate transactions and payments to the states. We highlight scenarios where a foreign business might want to set up a US entity, such as when dealing with suppliers or vendors that require it for partnership purposes. Our conversation emphasizes the importance of understanding the practical implications of compliance, including administrative burdens and costs. We share real-life examples of situations where foreign businesses had to deal with compliance issues, including the complexities of managing sales tax exemptions, working with vendors, and dealing with state audits. We offer insights and solutions to help foreign businesses navigate these challenges and find the best path to compliance. If you are a business that is located outside of the United States but are running into sales tax compliance issues you can schedule a call with us here: https://www.peisnerjohnson.com/whats-next/

Finally, the two discuss David Dark's book, "Everyday Apocalypse," and talk about why it is such an important read.
The inaugural episode of the Finding God in Culture Podcast! Danny Wright and Drew Thurman are your hosts for an ongoing exploration of God and the creative ways he keeps showing up around us. We have our eyes open in books, media, art, entertainment, and our everyday lives for where we will discover his presence. In this episode we lay the groundwork for the podcast, define culture, and talk about approaches to engagement.
Welcome to the beginning of a new podcast journey with Danny Wright and Drew Thurman. We believe along with Elizabeth Barrett Browning that: “Earth's crammed with heaven, And every common bush afire with God, But only he who sees takes off his shoes; The rest sit round and pluck blackberries.” Join us as we search culture to encounter and find the recurring messages of God that are revealed in the expected, but especially the unexpected ways.
In our return to regular format episodes we are joined again by musician Danny Wright. Who shares how building self esteem was essential to his career and in overcoming anxiety. Here we go!

This is an uplifting and hilarious interview with the three millennial founders of GOOD, a DC-based nonprofit that provides services, workshops and jobs to children, youth and families to help them elevate from surroundings of poverty and violence, improving their health and wellness. Darius Baxter, Troye Bullock and Danny Wright have very powerful testimonies from growing up with teenage mothers, and in communities with poverty and violence, to meeting and becoming friends while playing football in college. Sharing their stories with some very influencer people led them to start their own organization to be a light and give back to children and youth who come from similar threads. These three work hard and play hard! They exemplify black excellence, giving pack and paying it forward. Listen and share!

Danny spent years volunteering for different water-related causes before, one day, he came up with a simple yet revolutionary way to impact the global water crisis - a solution that uses gravity as an energy source. Though he didn't implement it immediately, 5 years later his idea came to fruition & his systems are now providing clean drinking water to over 3000 kids. We discuss how you can get involved in causes that you love & create change, no matter how small you may think your actions are! We talk all about the global water crisis, his solution & how you can follow your passion for change... whether it's animal/human/environmental rights.... whatever. Contact Danny at Danny@gravitywater.org & become a member, donating $8 a month that goes directly towards implementing these clean water systems in places that need them the most. gravitywater.org
