Parents are beginning to understand that mouth breathing, snoring, and teeth grinding during sleep could pose serious harm to their health. Sleep is a foundation of growth and development and the airway is what keeps that foundation functioning to support the brain. There is a growing body of evidence suggesting that behavioral issues in children often underlie sleep breathing problems. Snoring and mouth breathing can have many causes or associated issues. If your child snores or has other sleep issues, then finding the right professional to help is imperative. Today, to help parents consider these difficult situations is Dr. David McIntosh. Dr McIntosh is a paediatric ENT specialist, and author with particular interest in airway obstruction, facial and dental development and its relationship to ENT airway problems and middle ear disease. His two books Snored to Death, and Don't Ignore the Snore outline the mounting evidence that childhood airway issues need to be managed with utmost priority in our healthcare system. At Helix Dentistry we work very closely with Dr. McIntosh due to the intimate link between jaw development and a child that can breathe through the nose. Today's conversation is with David McIntosh. David is a Management Consultant listed in the Business Insider 35 under 35, the Founder of the UK Social Mobility Network at KPMG, and host of the Development by David podcast. I've gotten to know David really well over the last 3 years and it is only in the last few weeks I've learned the true extent of David's childhood and start point in life. I was exposed to the actualised, focused and accomplished version you get to hear today, but life was not always like that and the likelihood of David's positive trajectory was not certain at all. In today's episode, you can expect to learn about David's life and mindset growing up in Prestwick, his struggles fitting in at school and in life with a weight of blame and shame around his circumstances. But if you've been exposed to David's content in the last few years, you'll know he is a huge proponent of personal responsibility and agency. With that in mind you'll hear the levers and tools that empowered David to transform traumas into sources of strength. He offering advice to those battling shame, fear, and confusion rooted in their upbringing, nand you'll enjoy insights we discuss together on how to build confidence, and competence. Before we get into this episode, I want to say thank you to David for his raw insights on the loss of his mother, his experience of stand up comedy, the full circle moments of interviewing Sir Tom Hunter, speaking at his old secondary school, and much more. David has been recognised as the UK's number 1 apprentice by BPP for his role at KPMG, the Business Insider's “35 under 35” - #20, Accountancy Age's “35 under 35” - #20, and even ranked in the Top 20 Entrepreneurial Young Scots in 2023. Between December 2023 and September 2024, Telstra, Optus and Vodafone will close their 3G networks to make room for new, faster services. The 3G network shutdown will affect vital equipment and services across the road transport sector. Devices that rely on 3G will no longer function and need to be upgraded or replaced to continue operating. Commonly affected devices include: telematics and vehicle/asset tracking devices installed in heavy and light vehicles, as well as general assets such as trailers, generators, etc. traffic management signs used in school zones, intersections and freeways weather systems and stations alarms/building entry devices that incorporate gateway or mesh backhaul personal Emergency Response (PER) systems phones and tablets. Businesses, government, and industry are being urged to commence their transition immediately to avoid lapses in vital equipment and services across the road transport sector. Early transition and planning are vital given the large number of devices affected by the shutdown. The migration process can take months, and timing is dependent on the number of affected devices and the availability of installers. New Zealand is also shutting down their 3G network. The country will close their services between August next year and the end of 2025. This webinar, organised by Austroads and Transport Certification Australia (TCA), provides high-level information on the impacts of the Australian 3G shutdown and what local government and transport industry need to do to prepare for the transition. Presenters are David McIntosh, Telstra's National Telematics Domain Lead, Michael Reynolds, Head of Network Products, Programs and Services at Optus, Mark Joselin, Followmont Transport Compliance Manager, Adam Ritzinger, Chief Technical Officer at Heavy Vehicle Industry Australia, and John Gordon, Manager Strategic Development at TCA.

It's Friday, January 6th, A.D. 2023. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. By Adam McManus (Adam@TheWorldview.com) ISIS activity spikes in Iraq Between December 19th and 21st, 17 Iraqi people have been killed by ISIS fighters. Eight were killed in the Diyala Province after villagers approached ISIS fighters on motorbikes, but were quickly overpowered, reports International Christian Concern. It is believed that ISIS is hiding in remote villages in Iraq waiting for opportune times to attack despite being a fraction of the group they used to be. Many of the remote villages in Iraq, that are believed to hold ISIS members, are in areas where heavy ethnic and religious minorities reside, like those of the Christian faith. Revelation 6:9-10 says, “When [Jesus] opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained. They called out in a loud voice, ‘How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until You judge the inhabitants of the Earth and avenge our blood?'” 50 conservative leaders say: Move on from Kevin McCarthy A group of nearly 50 conservative heavyweights co-signed a statement Wednesday calling to "change the status quo in Washington," and applauded the 20 members of Congress who Wednesday voted against House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, sinking his bid for House speaker after six rounds of votes, reports Fox News. Among the group calling for McCarthy, R-Calif., to bow out of the race for speakership are former Reagan administration Attorney General Ed Meese, Ginni Thomas, wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, and David McIntosh, president of Club for Growth. Conservative Action President Ken Blackwell, along with 47 others, offered support to the "20 courageous members of Congress" who have voted against McCarthy. In the letter, they wrote, "These members [of Congress] represents the millions of voters across the country who are disgusted with the business-as-usual, self-interested governance in Washington. We stand behind them and beside them in their courageous efforts to find a Speaker of the House who will represent the interests of conservatives. We encourage more conservative members to join their ranks.” They added, "Rather than engage them in a good faith negotiation, Rep. Kevin McCarthy has instead maligned both the requests and the messengers. He has publicly and through proxies leveled attacks against members of his own party, including threatening to deny committee assignments for those who continue to oppose him. Moreover, he has failed to answer for, or commit to halting, his coordinated efforts in the 2022 elections to promote moderate Republican candidates over conservatives.” Colorado Rep, a Trump supporter, disregarded Trump's advice Republican Congresswoman Lauren Boebert of Colorado, one of the 20 conservatives who oppose Kevin McCarthy and an avid Trump supporter, disregarded his advice to vote for Kevin McCarthy for House Speaker. BOEBERT: “Let's stop with the campaign smears and tactics to get people to turn against us, even having my favorite president – [Donald Trump] – call us and tell us we need to knock this off. I think it actually needs to be reversed. The president needs to tell Kevin McCarthy that, sir, you do not have the votes and it's time to withdraw. With that, I yield. Thank you.” Texas Congressman nominates Florida Rep for House Speaker Texas Republican Congressman Chip Roy stunned Congress when he nominated Florida Republican Congressman Byron Donalds for House Speaker, reports FloridaPolitics.com. One reason Roy prefers Donalds over McCarthy is that he is only serving his second term and has not become corrupted by the D.C. Swamp. ROY: “Byron Donalds is a good man, raised by single mom, who moved past adversity, became a Christian man at the age of 21, and has devoted his life to advancing the cause for his family and for this country. He has done it admirably. “But there's an important reason for nominating Byron, this country needs a change. This country needs leadership that does not reflect this city that is badly broken. The House of Representatives is the people's House.” Who is Byron Donalds? Listen to a soundbite from his 2020 TV ad. DONALDS: “I'm Byron Donalds. I was raised in Brooklyn, New York by a single mom with three kids, two jobs, and not much else. Thanks to my mom and her influence, what could have been the end of my road was just the beginning. Because of her, I'm a proud FSU graduate and a happily married businessman with three amazing kids. “Government didn't get me off the streets. Trusting God, love of family, personal responsibility and hard work did. Today, I'm everything the fake news media tells you doesn't exist. A strong, Trump-supporting, gun-owning, liberty-loving, pro-life, politically incorrect Black man.” NFL player's cardiac arrest may have been caused by ‘vaccine-induced myocarditis' LifeSiteNews.com reports that the tragic cardiac arrest suffered by a 24-year-old Buffalo Bills safety on Monday Night Football may have been caused by “vaccine-induced myocarditis,” according to Dr. Peter McCullough, a distinguished internist, cardiologist, and epidemiologist. He told COVID vaccine journalist Steve Kirsch, “If Damar Hamlin indeed took one of the COVID-19 vaccines, then subclinical vaccine-induced myocarditis must be considered in the differential diagnosis.” Subsequently, Kirsch announced that Hamlin had indeed received an experimental COVID-19 gene-based vaccine as “The Buffalo Bills is a 100% vaccinated team.” In an October 18th article on McCullough's substack channel, he cited studies demonstrating how cases of myocarditis have increased in the population from around 4 per million to approximately 23,256/million in the tender ages of 13 to 18 alone since the introduction of massive COVID-19 gene therapy vaccination campaigns and mandates two years ago. Spontaneous reports since 2021 reveal the “highest risk group [for vaccine-induced myocarditis] was males age 18-24,” which becomes “explosive after the second injection,” with “deaths confirmed by autopsy.” The Gospel goes forth on CNN And finally, CNN's Anderson Cooper, a self-professed homosexual, heard about the Good News of Jesus Christ during one of his own interviews, reports Christian Headlines. Author and former NFL player Benjamin Watson told Cooper Wednesday that Damar Hamlin's medical emergency on national television is a reminder that everyone eventually will face death but that God provides a solution "through His Son Jesus Christ." Listen. WATSON: “We all have a day to be born and we all have a day to die. And so often in between those two points, we feel invincible. All of us have an appointment with death. “If that were to be us laying on the field or if that were to be us laying in a hospital, the question is about what happens after this life? Where will you spend eternity, as you mentioned Anderson, are coming up for all of us, not just for the football players. But thank God that He provides an answer through His Son Jesus Christ.” Romans 1:16 says, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believes; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” The latest update on Damar Hamlin's condition is that he has awoken, can move his hands and feet, but cannot talk, reports ESPN. This week I am sharing my appearance on Ben Coomber's Number 1 Rated Podcast: Ben Coomber Radio. You might recognise his name.. that's because he was last weeks guest. Here is what Ben had to say about our episode together: "If David can do it, surely we can all rewrite our story, however pre-determined it feels? Coming from a family of poverty, with a PTSD suffering father, to a parent dying young, to growing up in an environment where staying in poverty and never breaking out feels inevitable, to becoming Scotland's 1st apprentice management consultant, best young consultant in the country to apprentice of the year 2020, to founding chairing 2 social networks for Social Mobility, to meeting the queen, and to partnering with Marcus Rashford at work, this is the story of David McIntosh. At just 23 I was in awe of his wisdom and ideas, it was a pleasure to interview David. We discussed how we as humans can choose to feel empowered and have agency in a digital age, how the internet when used correctly can bring people out of poverty, how radical courage at key sliding door moments can change your life, how having tunnel vision on ONE goal could bring you out of your bad situation, and how embracing your weirdness could set you apart in a world where everyone is trying to conform. A truly inspiring young man. I hope you enjoy this show, and if you find it inspiring, please send it on to someone else.... "

Merry Christmas listeners and friends of The Development by David Podcast. We have a special episode of the show for you today. My mates Lewis McFarlane, Colin Campbell and I create our own rendition of the game show Room 101. Room 101 is a game show where "Room 101" is a hypothetical room where guests banish pet peeves and pet hates only if there is a democratic vote from other participants that they belong there. David McIntosh is the host of The Development by David Podcast. Colin Campbell is the host of the Cambro Conversations Podcast and fitness "influencer" on instagram under the alias of @col.cambro. Lewis McFarlane is an online holistic fitness coach and business owner. Although this is a light hearted episode of the podcast, we hit some big overarching topics surrounding mens mental health, personal responsibility, black and white thinking and insincere relationship building. But most importantly, it is packed with SILLY nonsense. We joke about ridiculous body building culture, egg and chips, indoor jacket wearers, google recapture and unsolicited hair removal..lol Hope you enjoyed this episode! This weeks episode is my appearance on the University Challenged Podcast with Toni Kent. Here's what it this episode is about.. ---- Would you know what to say if you found yourself on a Zoom call with Her Majesty the Queen in your early 20s? David McIntosh did. As Scotland's first ever Management Consulting apprentice at KPMG, and the Co-Chair of the firm's UK Social Mobility network, David's life story so far makes for powerful listening. So much so, he was chosen to speak with Her Majesty as part of the firm's 150th anniversary celebrations. In our conversation, David explains how growing up in receipt of free school meals and with uniform and holidays provided by veteran's charities empowered him to 'flip his DNA' and embark on a quest to become an accountant. He also shares how the work of the Social Mobility Foundation opened up access to opportunities that may otherwise not have been visible or available to him and the impact this had in setting his trajectory towards management consulting aligned with public service. We talk poverty, using humour to deflect attention and how counting coppers as a child can be a clue to a future career. There's also lots to take away on the value of being unconventional and the power of having a North Star. --- Check out out the University, Challenged podcast here: https://open.spotify.com/show/2jF3Z2j5QcjWyArN0nU3cS?si=a9a3a1bb8c52432c

A lack of sleep impacts our concentration, behaviour, emotions, energy levels and ability to learn, and it appears that children suffer more than adults. However, until quite recently, this vital activity was largely neglected by the medical profession. Our guest today, Dr David McIntosh, is a paediatric ENT who has centred his practice around improving the way children breathe at night in order to alleviate the range of potential adverse outcomes that can arise as a result of sleep-disordered breathing. In today's episode, we'll cover: What sleep-disordered breathing is What parents should look out for while their children are asleep The three different types of airway obstruction Signs of potential airway obstruction Some of the most common causes of breathing problems in children Correlations between anxiety and sleep-disordered breathing And so much more! Fifteen years ago, when Dr David McIntosh was in the process of becoming a paediatric ENT, a study came out that showed how common it is for sleep-disordered breathing pathologies to be misdiagnosed as having ADHD. This is one of the many ways in which children suffer negative impacts of poor quality sleep. Others include detrimental impacts on cognitive function and cardiovascular health. If you suspect that your child, or any children you know, might be suffering from sleep-disordered breathing, David's book, Snored to Death, is an invaluable resource that will equip you with more information than most medical professionals could give you on the subject! Be sure to check it out below. In today's episode, we'll cover: Why children are particularly vulnerable to the negative impacts of sleep-disordered breathing What MRI images reveal about the brains of children who have sleep-disordered breathing pathologies Cognitive functions that are impaired in children with sleep-disordered breathing How sleep-disordered breathing impacts the cardiovascular system of children Ways to treat sleep-disordered breathing Why an ENT should be the first point of call for sleep-disordered breathing pathologies And so much more! Listen in on this in-depth interview with former U.S. Congressman from Indiana David McIntosh, as he recounts his experiences attending Yale University, how the Watergate scandal inspired his interest in politics, and the true story of how the Federalist Society for Law and Public Policy was founded over pizza and beer during his tenure at the University of Chicago Law School. (Hint: One of his law professors was Antoni Scalia.) Hear McIntosh talk in-depth about the Federalist Society’s “founding fathers” view of the law and the ongoing tension between equity and justice, as well as his role in the Reagan White House and the failed Supreme Court nomination of Robert Bork. He also reflects on what place his faith has held in his political career and the place it holds in his current efforts as president of Club for Growth, the leading free-enterprise advocacy group in the nation, and promoters and shapers of the careers of conservative politicians such as Josh Hawley, Ted Cruz, and Marco Rubio.
