(NSFW) In this year's Craft Beer Awards season, Ed and Chris delve deep into the 2023 GABF results, celebrating the victories of Arizona's breweries. They shine a spotlight on the major categories and the skilled brewers who have risen to the top. However, as they navigate through the list, they can't help but notice the absence of certain beer styles. Chris laments the missing Sour Stout, while they share a light-hearted moment over the niche market of gluten-free beer. Despite the quirks, the focus remains on the local scene, with an exciting recap of the 2023 AZ Craft Beer Awards. Pedal Haus takes center stage as Brewery of the Year, and Ayla Kapahi from Broderlands Brewing receives the esteemed Directors Award for her outstanding contributions to the Las Hermanas Project. Amid all the accolades and laughter, Ed and Chris also take a moment to reflect on the private awards event's evolution, showcasing how it has grown and transformed since the previous year. It's a testament to the ever-changing landscape of craft beer, made all the more enjoyable by your continuous support. AND it happened right when I admitted that I have never read a Stephen King novel because I'm afraid of his books and all things creepy. Dang. Having already committed a mortal sin with my admission, I shall say 500 Hail Mary's and we'll meet again in a days. Bless me Father..... TO BE CONTINUED ABOUT BRUCE: Bruce Robert Coffin is the bestselling author of the Detective Byron mystery series and former detective sergeant with more than twenty-seven years in law enforcement. At the time of his retirement, from the Portland, Maine police department, he supervised all homicide and violent crime investigations for Maine's largest city. Following the terror attacks of September 11th, Bruce spent four years working counter-terrorism with the FBI, earning the Director's Award, the highest honor a non-agent can receive. Winner of Killer Nashville's Silver Falchion Award for Best Procedural, Bruce's most recent novel, Beyond the Truth, was also a finalist for the Agatha Award for Best Contemporary Novel, and a finalist for the Maine Literary Award for Best Crime Fiction Novel. ABOUT WITHIN IN SIGHT: Amid the dog days of summer, Detective Sergeant John Byron is called to the scene of a horrific crime: a young woman’s body, dismembered and left in an abandoned Portland lumber yard. The killing shares striking similarities with a spate of murders committed in Boston by a serial killer known only as the Horseman. As Byron’s team investigates the case, they quickly push up against powerful forces in town. But Byron will stop at nothing to find the truth, not when there is a killer on the loose and everyone is a suspect. Has the Horseman expanded his killing field? Is this the work of an ingenious copycat—or is nothing what it seems? One thing is certain: Byron must uncover the truth before the killer strikes again. @copyrighted. On today's show, we welcome back Victor Avila. Jr. Victor was recently on the show and shared a horrific story from his time in Mexico while working for Homeland Security. This time, Chuck and Mark get to ask Victor about the reality of what is happening on the border. They kick off the show by discussing child smuggling and the media's claim that children are kept in cages if they are caught. Victor explains that the kids are being exploited for prostitution and slave labor if a child is smuggled in the U.S., but they are unable to find their parents. They discuss how immigration laws did not change under Obama. However, the way they were interpreted did change, specifically asylum laws. They continue to discuss that it is not only Mexican immigrants that are smuggled over the border, plus the large amount of money spent on smuggling. Victor adds that farmers on the border are forced to allow smugglers to use their land. He also clears up the question of why people who are kidnapped do not run away from smugglers that hold them captive and how the smugglers treat them. They start to wrap up the show by getting Victor's thoughts on what needs to be done to improve our border. He offers his thoughts and explains exactly why or how it needs to be done. They discuss issues on every level that we have with our border and laws on immigration. Well, without the help of God—and perhaps even some new perspectives that could come from the changing of the guard in Washington, D.C.—parenting children in 2017 America could be tougher than ever. Is Parenting in 2017 About to Get Better As always, our hope shouldn't be in the one reining in Washington, D.C. Our hope should be in the one reining in the New Jerusalem—that of course being our Lord Jesus Christ. However, I really think this new administration could possibly be an example to everyone—certainly parents—that there is more to being a wise, compassionate, noble and loving human being than simply being politically correct and flattering all the time. These qualities are so often self-serving and just flat disingenuous, and deep down most people know it. The Bible says we shouldn't be easily offended. With the right motives, I think that telling it like it is can be the most compassionate thing you can do for someone. Jesus, Peter, Paul and certainly John the Baptist all did it. They didn't always use soft language when they did it either. As much as we see the flaw of sinful humanity in this new president—as much as his words and leadership style seems to offend the lemmings and snowflakes created by postmodern thought and political correctness—let's keep in mind that God only has a pool of flawed human beings to work with, and some are flawed in different ways than others. The Prophet Isaiah confessed to being a man of unclean lips, yet God still used him in a mighty way. The Apostle Peter cursed and swore while denying his Lord and Savior! God even used guys like King Cyrus and others like him to cultivate the ground of revival for His people. So, maybe He could use a guy like Donald Trump. I think this new administration—if they play their cards right—could help parents realize that higher expectations might actually lead to higher results; that reward should actually be attached to achievement; that trophies go to winners and people of character; that there's a price to be paid for mediocrity; and that we can find hope in the character produced by persevering through the struggles that life is sure to bring our way. If this new administration can model the good and the wisdom of what Scripture has plainly taught previous generations of Americans, then hopefully parents will be freed-up to bag some of this nonsensical political correctness and exercise the freedom to raise their kids in a way that's a little more congruent with a biblical worldview. At least, that's my hope. So, my prayer is that this new administration will—in some way, shape, or form—help provide a climate where parents can feel as though they actually do have a "License to Parent" as God ordained it. Right now a lot of parents, even Christian parents, don't know whether to spit or wind their watches, because of all the political correctness that has metastasized—particularly over the last eight years.
