Following the recent closure of the (January) 'transfer window' in many parts of the world, a quieter 'window' than normal for many agents, 'The Agents Angle' examines - is it a case of clubs being more cautious due to various factors impacting on finances? And could it see a shift towards a more American, if not 'Feast or Famine' approach by clubs to player recruitment? Coinciding with the closing of the 'transfer window'; FIFA held their annual FLAR (FIFA Law Annual Review) in Tokyo, which although not etched in many agent's diaries ..... agent-related matters featured prominently on the agenda. As such, 'The Agents Angle' looks at matters discussed at the FLAR and updates relating to the agent's world; from regulation (FFAR) to transfers, club finances to tax as well as a senior FIFA official 'labelling' the topic of agents as "amazing and interesting". There is also the case of a 'collapsed' transfer in the recent 'transfer window' that was reported to be because of a dispute relating to agent representation of the player; and the need for adequate independent dispute resolution for agents when such matters arise. EMAIL : questions@theagentsangle.com ====== SHOW RUNNING ORDER : (01:29) - Was The January 'Transfer Window' Really That Quiet? > (02:57) - Transfer Payments Are 'Catching Up' With Some Clubs. > (08:39) - Confusing Terminology of Loaning, Loan, Loanee & Clubs 'Stretching' Finances. > (10:35) - A Shift Towards the America in Recruitment Strategy - with 'Feast or Famine' Approach? > (13:47) - Could Accountants & Finance Directors Become A Club's Next Big Star in Transfers? > (18:14) - Agent Matters Prominent at FIFA Law Annual Review in Tokyo. > (23:14) - Has the FIFA Clearing House 'Stalled' When it Comes to Agent Commissions? > (25:33) - Observations from FLAR Presentation on 'Developments' With FIFA Agent Regulations (FFAR). > (32:53) - Did the FLAR Demonstrate More FIFA Misconceptions & Misunderstanding About Agents & The Agents World? > (38:15) - FLAR Presentation on 'The Global Football Transfer Picture (2023)' Used to Deflect Innacurately onto Agents? > (44:53) - Overall Reflection on the 'Tone' of The FIFA Law Annual Review (FLAR) & FIFA Priorities Including Agent Regulations. > (49:05) - A January Transfer 'Falls Through' Due to Agent Representation Dispute. > (50:54) - When Agent Disputes Stop Transfers & Everyone Loses & A Place for Mediation & ADR? > (55:06) - Breaking News on Osman Transfer - Agreement Now With Brighton. > (57:53) - Disclaimer > ====== RELATED LINKS : FIFA : FLAR (FIFA Law Annual Review) - Tokyo - February 2023) > Day One (time-stamps) 00/38/40 - Do's & Dont's in Player Transfers 03/28/40 - UEFA Financial Sustainability Regulations Day Two (time-stamps) 00/02/45 - The Global Transfer Picture: 2023 Figures 00/44/00 - Key Tax Issues Involved in Player Transfers 02/02/00 - Minimum Working Conditions For Female Players 02/35/50 - The Swiss Federal Tribunal in 2023 (and CAS) 04/39/00 - 'Amazing & Interesting' ? - Closing Statement KPMG - Winter Transfers, Where is the Value? ====== FEATURED ARTICLES : Ibrahim Osman's Premier League dream shattered over agent fees dispute > ‘Deal is off' – West Ham transfer mess as agent drama sees Hammers signing collapse > Brighton ‘now pushing' for signing this week – De Zerbi's side ‘make offer' of €20m+ > Brighton to sign Nordsjaelland's Ibrahim Osman in €19.5m transfer > ===== SHOW LINKS: EMAIL : questions@theagentsangle.com WEBSITE : www.theagentsangle.com LinkedIn Instagram Facebook Twitter (X) YouTube ====== CREDITS : Theme Music : Agent Red by Abbynoise Music from #Uppbeat : https://uppbeat.io/t/abbynoise/agent-red

Alex Kirry and Scott Mitchell keep talking about how allowing athletes to transfer one time without penalty. Coaches can leave at will but players are stuck and sometime coaches want to just hoard the talent and not allowing them to transfer helps them since it hurts the opponents. One point is Joe Burrow who left Ohio State for a chance to play and he ended up having a once in a generation season with LSU that led to him being selected No.1 overall.

Happy holidays, soccer fans! I hope you're all on Santa's nice list and avoid lumps of coal this Christmas. In Major League Soccer news, Nick and Mike have good reviews for the new playoff format. In the latest change to the post-season, seven teams will qualify from each conference, with the top seed earning a first-round bye. The remaining teams will compete in a single-elimination format - no more home-and-home series or away goal confusion - without the re-seeding rule. The hosts agree this true, bracket-style tournament will add excitement to the playoffs and provide a more meaningful regular season with teams competing for seeding. In coaching news, FC Dallas have hired Luchi Gonzalez as manager. Coming up with the FC Dallas academy, Luchi will continue the FCD culture of player development and an attacking style of play. However with the current roster and the departure of Maxi Urruti, it remains to be seen how Dallas will come by their offense. Also, Caleb Porter to LA Galaxy is not a done deal, as had been reported ... but he also hasn't signed with the Columbus Crew ... or Atlanta ... or anyone else. Where does he end up, and can he get a deal done before all the jobs are taken? Finally in transfer news: Zlatan returns to LA Galaxy as a DP Kelyn Rowe to Sporting KC Diego Rubio to Colorado Rapids Marco Urena to Chicago Fire (via Waiver Draft) Edgar Castillo to New England Revolution Auro, Jr. returns to TFC, after the Reds exercise the purchase option How these moves impact the players and teams remains to be seen, but keep an eye on Sporting KC to replace Rubio with a TAM level signing. Also, who gets moved with Zlatan taking up a DP spot on the Galaxy roster? And can Urena find his goal scoring touch in Chicago after failing to be LAFC's main striker? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and on twitter @SOPSoccer. Finally, a shout out to our new twitter friend and Philadelphia Union blogger Shayan Waseh. Check out his take on all things DOOP, DOOP, DOOP at Philadelphia Soccer. Thanks for listening, and have a wonderful holiday season!

This week's topic: How big player transfers became a marketing story Premier League clubs spent over £1.5bn in the summer transfer window as across Europe, the market for football talent skyrocketed. Neymar went from Barcelona to PSG for a record €222m fee and the Spanish club then chased and failed to lure Liverpool’s Coutinho for not much less. Spurs fans chuckled as Man City paid over £50million for their full back Kyle Walker and Chelsea manager Antonio Conte tore his new hair out as the Blues missed his targets. Meanwhile, journeyman defender Jonny Evans’ became one of the most sought after players in the Premier League, and nobody quite knew why. But beneath the headline numbers, the football’s transfer economy is a story about media, marketing and the future of the communications industry. How have social media platforms changed how football communicates? What is the potential and the limits of player brand power? Are the lines between sponsor and rights holder still relevant? And what do big brands want from players, teams, leagues and the game of football itself? Danny Rogers and Richard Gillis pose these and many more questions to an invited group of experts on The Line, the first PRWeek sports podcast, available for download.
