In any darkness that you are going through, there is light. In your depression, in your anxiety, in your co-dependency, there is light. It's actually the darkest darkness that leads us to the light light.Rachy Friedlander is an Emotional Mastery Coach and a TEB Practitioner (TEB stands for Transforming the Experience-Based Brain.) In this fascinating interview, Rachy talks to us about the vital role that regulating our nervous system has on our body and our soul. If we have suffered from trauma in our lives, or our needs were unmet, or we felt like we were in survival mode for extended periods of time, our bodies hold those traumas and fears. Over time, we begin to operate in survival mode, even if no one is threatening us. Rachy talks about nervous system regulation so that we can FINALLY calm ourselves down and begin to feel safe. It's the feeling of safety that is the core of emotional healing. One way to begin feeling safe is to stop and focus on your breathing for a few minutes. You heart rate will slow down, and you will begin to feel safe. Once we feel safe, we can observe our emotions--anger, sadness, frustration, fear, happiness, melancholy, etc. It's important that we observe our emotions WITHOUT JUDGEMENT. Rachy goes on to explain the kabbalistic aspect of emotional healing. She tell us that every feeling, every emotion, every desire, every thought, every word, and every action that you have ever had, are having right now, or will have, is encompassed in the concept of All Is. Everything inside of you and outside of you is part of All Is. Everything (All) was put in place by Hashem (G-d) for our own good; to help us achieve our higher purpose. Ask yourself, "Am I safe right now?" Take into account what is realistically happening for you right now--WITHOUT JUDGEMENT. Don't judge your feelings or emotions; just observe what is. Creating safety and emotional regulation inside of yourself will slowly, over time, help you feel whole. Own your wholeness.Rachy has an incredible online course called, Becoming Your Own Therapist. This course, as well as more information on Rachy, and the opportunity to work with her to achieve your own healing, is offered on her website:https://www.coachrachy.com/aboutContact: atrebbetzins@gmail.com
So you're stuck in a job that doesn't excite you. Or maybe you're climbing the corporate ladder but have no idea if it's leaning against the right wall. Gary Bremermann has seen it all—from ambitious professionals chasing paychecks without purpose to companies struggling to hire the right talent. In Part 2, he lays out his 7 Rules of Career Clarity—a process he developed to help people find meaningful work, instead of just another job.Key Highlights of Our Interview:Step 1: Your Story Matters – “Your past holds clues to your future. Look back to move forward.” Why reflecting on your experiences can reveal what you truly want.Step 4: Dream Jobs (Yes, Plural) – “One dream job should be unlimited, the other should be realistic. Somewhere in between is your future.” How to define career goals without setting yourself up for disappointment.Step 7: Action is Everything – “All the career clarity in the world is useless if you don't act on it.” Why small, consistent steps matter more than waiting for the perfect opportunity. The Harsh Reality of Japan's Talent Market – “People are forced to retire at 60, then offered the same job at 40% pay. Meanwhile, companies struggle to find talent. It makes no sense.” Why Japan's hiring practices are outdated—and how ageism is holding back experienced professionals.Risk Aversion vs. Career Growth – “The fear of change is stronger here than in most markets. But staying in your comfort zone can cost you more than taking a risk.” Why job seekers and companies alike need to rethink stability. If you've ever felt stuck in your career—or frustrated by job markets that refuse to evolve—this episode is a must-listen. Get ready for a reality check on work, growth, and what's next._____________________Connect with us:Host: Vince Chan | Guest: Gary Bremermann______________________--Chief Change Officer--Change Ambitiously. Our monthly Book Club episode is here and it was a great one. Lindsey Hein and Peter Bromka lead a group discussion about Everything All at Once by Steph Catudal. This is beautifully written book that details Steph's turbulent life and how she grappled with her past while sitting bedside while her husband, famed trail and ultra runner Tommy Rivs, endured an 84 day medically induced coma while battling lung cancer. Tommy's battle nearly ended many times and Steph's description of those moments alongside her own memories made for powerful mixture. In this episode Lindsey and Peter explore themes from the book with the help of some of our Relay subscription community. We will be holding our next book club in late September and we'll be discussing Stephen Lane's upcoming book Long Run to Glory: The Story of the Greatest Marathon in Olympic History and the Women Who Made It Happen. We will share a link so listeners can join us in the discussion once we finalize the date of the show.
No life is going to be perfect—but the kicker? We wouldn't want a perfect life even if we could get it!In today's episode, we dive deep into life's 50-50 mix of good and bad times, illustrating it with two poignant real-life tales: a European trip gone awry and a client's emotional journey with a loved one's health. We'll talk about the work of positive psychology pioneer Martin Seligman, psychotherapist Deb Dana, and the moving memoir "Everything All at Once" by Steph Catudal, which masterfully showcases resilience in the face of profound loss.Much like the Japanese art of kintsugi, we can create a complete life, full of beauty and resilience from our broken pieces.Links/Past Episodes I MentionedEp. 94: The Gap and the GainEp. 16: Post-Traumatic GrowthMy "Guide to Adversity""Everything All at Once"Resources:The "Memory Matters" course—in the end, our memories are really all we are ever left with, so protect them. The Advanced Nervous System Resilience training—get on the wait list! "I thought I was leaving my grief behind. I truly thought I had finished grieving. When Rivs got sick, that narrative was cracked wide open. And I learned that you never finish grieving, and that's OK. Healing is a continuous journey, and the grief kind of comes along with us and becomes a part of us. And that's a beautiful thing." It's hard to find suitable words to do justice for Steph Catudal's words. Her New York Times best-selling memoir, Everything All at Once, is heart-wrenching, gripping, evocative, and emotional. It's the story of Steph's childhood — of losing her dad to lung cancer when she was just 14, and the turmoil, rebellion, and upheaval that filled the following years. It's simultaneously the story of her adulthood — of nearly losing her husband, Tommy Rivers Puzey, to lung cancer, and of his 84-day medically induced coma. It's the story of grief, survival, strength, caregiving, motherhood, and so much more. And it's about running, but it's not about running at all. Imagine this. Your name is Steph Catudal. You are a young teenager, and you adore your Dad. He can do one-arm pushups and entertain a crowd, and when you have a terrible asthma attack, he calms you down. One day you hear the first of many horrible coughs and soon learn he is dying of lung cancer. His death tears at your soul, and you become rebellious and angry; try to escape with substances and replace your father with a relationship with an older man. Years later, you meet the love of your life, Tommy Rivs Puzey, an Ultramarathoner with a beautiful heart. You find happiness, marry, and have three children. Life couldn't get better, yet one night, lying in bed, you hear that cancer cough again, this time from your husband's lungs. This episode of Chatter That Matters is powerful. It's a beautiful story that shows how the power of love, the will of an Ultramarathoner, and how healthcare at its best can heal. I invite Carol Lebert, Director of Support Services, Life and Health Claims, at RBC Life Insurance Company. Carol brings such context by drawing on her experience as a nurse, and she talks about the power of healing through positivity. We also discuss the mental health trauma many in the healthcare sector incur. To go in the dark with a light is to know the light. To know the dark, go dark. Go without sight, and find that the dark, too, blooms and sings, and is traveled by dark feet and dark wings. ~Wendell BerryI have a question for you - Do you equate peace with effort? Does it feel as though you must work to attain peacefulness? I think for many of us, it does feel this way - as though we are trying to get somewhere or attain something within this practice. The idea of enlightenment can easily feel as ‘trying to attain' if we aren't mindful. Let's look at the story of the Buddha as an example - he tried EVERYTHING… All the practices, the harshest asceticism, but ultimately, what is it that worked? He sat all night under the Bodhi tree - open and receptive to all that Mara, the personification of temptation and distraction, threw at him.He didn't attain anything; he remembered.I wonder what this does for you when you think about your practice being as simple as remembering who you really are and what you really already know. Does it invite you to lie back? To soften some? To simply linger, waiting, watching? In the last 3 episodes, we have been exploring endarkenment - the opposite, necessary component of meditative practice to balance enlightenment. The qualities we've explored to know the dark are:EmbodimentFierce compassion {as bravery, empowerment, clarity, authenticity, balance, fulfillment, wisdom or vision}And lastly: ReceptivityWe wait. We listen. We receive.Don't chase the light. Remember you ARE the light. Join me for this final episode in our Endarkenment series as we discuss receptivity and share a 20-minute guided meditation practice. How and what kind of media Americans consume has changed a great deal in the last decade. The time spent watching TV, listening to radio, reading newspapers and magazines are all down while the use of mobile devices is up by 250%. At the same time, with so many choices for content, a polarized nation often goes to the media where they hear news or opinions that agree with their own – increasing the polarization. With us today's Smart Talk to discuss these changes and their impact is Alison Dagnes, a professor of political science at Shippensburg University, who has authored three books Super Mad at Everything All the Time: Political Media and Our National Anger, Politics on Demand: The Effects of 24-Hour News On American Politics and A Conservative Walks Into a Bar: The Politics of Political Humor.Support WITF: https://www.witf.org/support/give-now/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this Roots of Reality Experiences episode, historian Ben Baumann talks with Dr. Alison Dagnes about how money fuels media partisanship, the problem of false equivalence in the political media, and how this all has impacted American society. (Dr. Alison Dagnes is a Professor of Political Science at Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania. She is the author of "Super Mad at Everything All the Time: Political Media and Our National Anger," "Politics on Demand: The Effects of 24-Hour News On American Politics" and "A Conservative Walks Into a Bar: The Politics of Political Humor." We speak with Dr. Alison Dagnes, professor of Political Science at Shippensburg University, about specific tactics we can all use to manage our emotional response to media consumption. In her book Super Mad at Everything All the Time she presents specific tactics to navigate our relationship with the media. According to Dr. Dagnes, "We are increasingly being encouraged by different media outlets (as comedianJohn Mulaney puts it) to be ‘super mad at everything all the time.’"More Info on Dr. DagnesSuper Mad at Everything All the Time Interviewed by:Scott MitchemLinkedIN
Sam Morris is the founder of Zen Warrior Training®. In 1999, just after leading a bicycling trip for nine teenagers across the United States, Sam was in a car accident caused by a drunk driver which left him paralyzed from the waist down. Rather than becoming the victim of his circumstances, Sam learned and created a system of attitude training that brought him more vitality and clarity than he ever had before his injury. In addition to coaching private clients and businesses in Zen Warrior Training®, Sam hosts biweekly classes in Santa Monica, CA and leads community talks and workshops throughout the country. You can connect with Sam and learn more about him at zenwarriortraining.com Favorite Success Quote Self-consciousness is a lack of consciousness of the self Key Points 1. Expand Your Relationship with Yourself Beyond Your Mind So often we get stuck in a place where our relationship with ourselves is limited only to our mind and the incessant mental chatter happening within it. From this place, it becomes difficult to understand who you truly are, what you want, and what you must do to achieve the range of experiences that you desire in this lifetime. Your breaths are shallow, your thoughts are cluttered with the opinions and expectations of others, and your truth is being clouded by noise, the ego, and your lack of presence. But when you expand your relationship with yourself beyond your mind, everything changes. When you get into your body and begin experiencing more frequent states of flow and presence, your reality changes. You no longer worry about what you said yesterday or fret about what you must do tomorrow. You are able to simply “Be” in this moment without judgment or criticism. And when you’re in this place of presence and freedom from judgment, you can be 100% you. I challenge you to make a conscious effort to get into your body this week. Go surfing, pick up an instrument, train parkour, lift heavy weights, do something that jolts you out of your head and into your body. Because when you are in your body and focused on your movements you are present, and when you are present, life opens up in ways that you can’t imagine. 2. Presence Frees You From Your Bullshit When you are living in the past or the future, it’s easy to get stuck in your bullshit. Think about it… If you’re living in the past, you are thinking about what you did wrong, or how you could have done something better, or how you said this or didn’t say that. You are stuck in an endless loop, experiencing the same “negative” event over and over again in your head. This lack of presence eeks its way into your present moment and you begin to doubt yourself during conversations and constantly overanalyze yourself and your actions because you are so hung up on yesterday’s mistakes. Living in the future is no different. If you’re constantly focused on what you want to achieve tomorrow and the life you will have someday, then you aren’t focused on the amazing life you are living right now. And if you have the ability to read this article, you do have an amazing life. By getting present, you are able to be free from the bullshit. With presence, you cannot dwell on past mistakes and personal criticisms. You cannot get caught up in projecting a future that makes you dissatisfied with your current reality. When you are present, you are free. 3. Presence Accelerates the Human Experience Everything that you do is amplified by the power of presence. Everything… All of the greatest human experiences from creation to sex to friendship to adversity are all amplified by getting present. When you are present with a woman, your anxiety disappears and you are able to reveal yourself to her in a way that is completely and totally authentic. When you are present at work, you can tap into flow states and execute your craft masterfully in half the time that it would take if you were distracted. When you are present with yourself, you are in tune with your body and emotions and all the lessons to be learned from them (more on that later). Presence amplifies existence. Get present. 4. Success without a Strong Internal Identity is Inevitable Failure One of the greatest mistakes a man can make is to tie his identity to something other than himself. When a man’s identity is contingent on his relationship with his woman, his work, his possessions, or anything outside of himself, his identity is inherently fragile and ripe for disruption. No one is impervious to the harsh realities of unexpected change. From a lay off to a divorce to an unexpected death, there are thousands of things that can disrupt your life and completely wreck all of the things that you now hold dear. And if your identity is wrapped up in these things, when they go, so too does your sense of self. If your identity is outside of yourself then it doesn’t take much to raze your identity and leave you feeling lost and uncertain about who you are. By cultivating a strong internal identity, you allow yourself to experience the storms of life with all of the pain and joy that comes with them. You experience everything but can be beaten by nothing. You are who you are. And that’s more than enough. 5. Feelings Are Teachers Human emotions are the greatest teachers we’ve ever met. Whether positive or negative, any emotion that you feel is there to teach you something. It could be there to confirm that you are doing well, such as the bliss that you feel when you look at your partner, or the satisfaction that comes from a full day’s work. It could be to inform you that how you are acting is not working, such as the tension in your gut when it comes time to pay the bills or the apprehension you feel about getting your yearly physical. Or they could be there to tell you that the path you are on ultimately will not serve you such as the inexplicable “Gut feelings” so many of us receive whenever we are unknowingly out of alignment with our highest calling. If you are going to live this life to the fullest and truly embrace this existence, you must learn to feel your emotions, embody them, learn from them… Don’t flee from them. Never allow your emotions to scare or control you, but always notice them and give them the attention and intention that they deserve. Your emotions are your mentors and your guides on this crazy journey. Follow them and you will learn more than you ever imagined. Welcome to this weeks episode of Heavy Metal History, indeed, it is a very special episode for me personally and I hope my listeners also enjoy this episode. My guests were Ryan Morgan and Jesse Zaraska, Guitarist and Vocalist of Melodic Hardcore band Misery Signals. Ryan and Jesse were grateful enough to give me some of their time to discuss the 15 year anniversary of one of the most prolific albums to be released in the genre, their album “Of Malice and the Magnum Heart”. Ryan and Jesse take me through the early days of the band, a history which most people familiar with Misery Signals already know, but for the sake of the podcast and the history I was after, it seemed apt to start there and work our way into the writing and recording of the record. Jesse talks about “The Year Summer Ended in June” and the story behind that song, which, again, most fans of the band are familiar with. We discuss how the band wrote closely together for this record and how the writing process was relatively quick and very inspired. They also talk to me about recording with Devin Townsend and how it was a dream of Jesse's to work with “Hevy Devy” most of his life up to that point. WE touch on the Malice X tour that coincided with the albums 10 year anniversary along with Mathew Mixon's excellent Documentary about the album and the band called “ Yesterday was Everything” All that and some ever so slight hints about new material thats been in the works for the band. We talk political polarization, culture and media with Dr. Alison Dagnes, Professor of Political Science at Shippensburg University and author of the new book "Super Mad at Everything All the Time: Political Media and Our National Anger".
Super Mad at Everything All the Time explores the polarization of American politics through the collapse of the space between politics and culture, as bolstered by omnipresent media. It seeks to explain this perfect storm of money, technology, and partisanship that has created two entirely separate news spheres: a small, enclosed circle for the right wing and a sprawling expanse for everyone else. This leads to two sets of facts, two narratives, and two loudly divergent political sides with extraordinary anger all around. Based on extensive interviews with leading media figures and politicos, this book traces the development of the media machine, giving suggestions on how to restore our national dialogue while defending our right to disagree agreeably.

I see time and time again in the online space that mindset work is seen as a ‘nice to have’. It’s something you KNOW you need to work on (because you also know that it’s holding you back!) but it’s allll about the strategy first…that facebook or pinterest course that you absolutely NEED takes priority. What’s Your Problem? The thing is… Strategy isn’t your problem, mindset is! You know all the things. You know the strategy…but you’re NOT doing the work, you’re not taking the action that could push you and your business forward and you’re holding yourself back. Sound familiar? Strategy Isn’t Everything All the strategy in the world can’t help you when you’re feeling like an imposter and wondering you you think you are to think YOU can do this so you procrastinate over putting yourself out there?! When you’re comparing yourself to the person that’s been doing it years longer than you feeling like you’re just not good enough, so you procrastinate over putting yourself out there. Or when you’re so overwhelmed by ALL THE THINGS that you don’t even know where to start….so you don’t, and you procrastinate over putting yourself out there! When you’re procrastinating simply because you’re crippled by fear and self doubt. Strategy will not help you with that. What’s More Important? Of course strategy is important, but Mindset is JUST as important, if not more so in my opinion. You can know all the things to do on a practical level but if you don’t sort out the ‘inner’ stuff that’s stopping you from doing them (the negative thoughts, the doubts, the limiting beliefs)…you’re not going to get anywhere fast, strategy or no strategy. Apart from a fast track to more self loathing, even less confidence and more frustration…and you’re going to be aiming all those negative thoughts and beliefs right at yourself! How far do you think you can get with THAT mindset? How TOUGH does it feel trying to get anything done? Like an uphill battle right? Like you’re constantly pushing! What Do You Do When Times Get Tough? You didn’t get into this for it to be harder and less fun than your job! When things get tough (which inevitably at points they do) how are you going to stay in the game if you don’t have the ability to problem solve and reframe things to the positive? To be able to see the potential lesson or opportunity. You need to know and believe that everything IS possible for you AND that it’s all going to work out. If you’re constantly doubting yourself, or that it’s even possible for you, what do you think you’re going to get? Do you think you’ll be taking the action you need to to get you to where you want to be? Are you taking it now? If you’ve got a fear of being visible (which has even more fears underneath that!) how is the facebook and instagram strategy going to help if you struggle to post or go live? You’re going to make excuses to not do it, or find reasons for why the timing is wrong and you’re going to stay stuck. This Is ALL Sortable! It pains me every time I speak to someone and I can see the problem a mile off (I have a little gift for spotting your mindset gremlins even when you can’t!), I can see the fix too and how easy it can potentially be TO fix but then the shiny object syndrome sets in and they prioritise a strategic course, or professional photography or a web developer when all of those things are really just an excuse to not deal with the issue head on if we get really honest about it. They’re the ‘busy’ tasks that make you feel like you’re making progress but really you’re kind of just delaying your success and delaying putting yourself out there in the way that you want and need to to have the business that you want and the success and the money that you want to make. It really IS all sortable! If you’re resonating with any or ALL of this don’t worry. I promise you all those mindset gremlins that you have can be silenced…or at a bare minimum muffled and tamed so they don’t bother you anymore, like swatting away an annoying bug! If you can change the dialogue you have with yourself, identify the key thoughts and beliefs that you have about yourself and about your situation (which you can!), if you can create the awareness for when you have a pesky thought error that might hold you back…THEN you combine that with the strategy you already know, my love you’re going to absolutely fly!! Exercise: What are you holding yourself back from doing right now? Write them all down. Look at your list and then ask yourself, ‘If I could shift the way i’m thinking and my beliefs in these areas where could I be?’ Really tune in to the vision of what your life could and would look like if you had more optimism, more confidence, more self belief…what would you be doing? How does that feel? And then ask, ‘If I DON’T shift the way i’m thinking and my beliefs in these areas where will I be? In a years time? In 5 years time?’ Why wouldn’t you try and fast track the first vision?! What’s Your Priority? You just need to realise how much of a priority your mindset actually is. How sorting this stuff absolutely isn’t a ‘nice to have’ it’s an essential. It will make your business and your life much more enjoyable again, things will feel so much easier and you will feel so much more in control of your outcomes. You will have a COMPLETELY different lens to look at life through with a few simple tweaks and by understanding the thought errors that are holding you back. Doing this work can and WILL transform your business, AND your life. It really will, it just needs to be prioritised. You can’t think one way in one area and another in another area. This will change everything for you for the better. Why would you delay having that in your life? Here Are A Few Of The Things We Really Need As An Entrepreneur (All things that a strong, positive mindset absolutely gives you!) Perspective Positivity Resilience Reframing The ability to take criticism Optimism Determination Drive Self Belief Productivity Focus Motivation The ability to adapt to change at the drop of a hat Decision making Pushing through fear Getting visible Managing stress There are many, many, MANY more! The Bottom Line The bottom line is, your inner game really does drive your outer game. Mindset is a HUGE part of business, and success in business. The doubts, the fears, the limiting beliefs all need to go. There’s no room for them in this amazing business of yours, there really isn’t. Look At The Evidence When you look around at the evidence. When you really look, you can see that the most successful business owners in the world all credit an element of mindset to their success. All of them. The most common themes that come through are meditation, mindfulness, visualisation, a morning routine, journaling but all focus on cultivating positive habits, thoughts and beliefs. But they ALL work on their mindset on a daily basis. You need to try and let go of any stigma you have around any of these subjects being ‘woo’ because they are ALL backed by serious amounts of science. Strategy + Mindset = Success Strategy and mindset go hand in hand to create success. You can’t really have it with only one of these at play. All these successful multi millionaires all had the same gremlins as you at one point or another. The procrastination, the overwhelm, the self doubt, the imposter syndrome, the comparisonitis but they KNEW it was THAT that they needed to work on to propel them forwards. Where Could You Be? Where could you be if you had more confidence, more self belief, more positive thoughts and tools in your armoury to deal with the inevitable mindset gremlins and obstacles that get in your way? What would you do that you’re not right now? WHO would you be if this was a priority? Working on your mindset is not fluffy, it’s not a nice to have, it’s not something that can wait. It’s an essential piece of the puzzle and something that can fast track you right to where you want to go. Why would you want to delay any longer? If you know that now is the time to start changing this for yourself and want to explore this further, have any questions or want some accountability to make sure you’re doing the things you need to then please book in a free discovery call so we can see what needs to happen to get you from where you’re at right now, to the successful business owner you can be!! Join us this week, as we discuss Band of Horses' 2006 (turns out, debut LP, after an EP), "Everything All the Time." If you love $29,000 refrigerators, majestic arpeggios, bizarre Gene Simmons infomercials, and mid-aughts sweet-sounding (if not-quite profound) proper debut for Ben Bridwell's personal majesty, you should definitely tune in. Shane believes that this band deserves a greatest hits collection, and he could be right. But here, in my estimation, is the genesis of that. We decided the only way to cope with the inevitable disappointment of deadline day was to get together for a bit of sweaty, uncut, curse laden inebriated chat. Obviously the only logical thing to do was stream it live... What are we talking about this week? Everything - All the action as it happened; New signings and the one's that got away; Are Short and Bain really interested in the long term? Why have we failed to sign another striker? Are the deals out a smart move or not? What is Damian's favourite Mustard and why is that important? Plus much, much more. It's honey for the ears! Do you like to eat? Everything? All the time? I know I sure do! But there’s something I’ve learned in life, and that’s that you can’t always have it all. Want to eat some tasty sugary pastries and bliss out from the dopamine hit they give you? Sounds good, but be prepared to not feel motivated to go to the gym…or do much else after. Want to have loads of energy every day, have amazing looking skin, and a feel balanced emotionally? It’s probably gonna take some sort of sacrifice in your diet. In an almost literal sense, you can’t have your cake and eat it too. Today we’ll talk to Darlene Adamusik who has one of the more extreme and restrictive diets out there (though that’s not how she thinks about it). She is a vegan. She is loving it. And she is going to tell us why.
